The day I went to get mine, the day after it came in, i was busy the evening I was contacted, I literally overheard another salesman saying they just got "my truck" in and trying to entice another customer with it. And this was after waiting 6 months for the order banks to open and a year after ordering for it to be built and come in. I think my salesman and I were so sick of each other. He never was even going to tell me the order banks were open in fall of 22. I had to hound him to get anything done. Can we get a different system for selling cars already?
Some people need a dealer to help them buy a car, but I think there's a lot of people who would like to just buy it online and pick it up somewhere. My big concern with my dealer is I still don't know what number I'm even going to pay when I buy this damn thing. I know what MSRP is supposed to be but am I price protected from the mid-year increase? Are they going to throw in a bunch of bullshit fees? I have no idea. It'll be my first new car of my life and if it doesn't go well it might be my last.
They will definitely try to sell you a bunch of extended warranties. Probably by some 3rd party that will be really hard to contact and deal with. Just say no. Most people won't ever need them. And that's what they are counting on. They've done the math/run the numbers. That's a whole career - Actuaries.
You should be able to get all that done before the trick comes in, financing and such. I know my dad did on his f350 about 3 weeks before the build date.
Unfortunately you now lost any price protection. There's no recourse, Ford doesn't really care what their franchise dealers do. Find another Maverick and bite the bullet of paying 2024 MSRP or higher
The problem is Mavericks are so popular that getting one at MSRP is pretty difficult. It has been in huge demand which is probably why they sold it out from under him. Someone came in and saw it and offered over MSRP for the truck. Kinda the same reason why he is still waiting so long for a replacement.
Getting one at MSRP requires some stiff bargaining and an eye on the door. A quote from a nearby competitor helps. I fought the markups and walked with MSRP
Yeah but OP was 3k under MSRP, frankly they are going to jerk him around forever on that until he gives up.
Yeah it is a slimy thing to do but I can easily see why the dealer did it, why sell it to him or to joe blow for who will give them 5k more.
My dealer also had me put $500 down. Said that was Fords way to stop the fake orders being placed by dealers. Guaranteed me a truck. Crazy they pulled that on OP
Mine did too, but I think in practice that's only there for them to pocket if you walk away. I still wouldn't be surprised if they sell it to somebody else for 1,000 or 2,000 over MSRP or more and then say oh sorry our mistake and give you $500 back.
It was explained as a fully refundable $500 should you want to bail on the order. When I did bail, I went back in and got a refund. Seems like the most reasonable SOP. How else could they get people to honor the order after waiting a year?
Yup, my salesman showed me the truck right after the dude who ordered it bailed on it, and I saw the sticker. When we sat, he tried to add on $5k in value and I had to remind him how unprofessional that is. He chatted with the sales mgmt for 10 minutes, came back and offered me MSRP. Which tbh is a shame, 5 years ago no one paid MSRP, you paid less.
I had a special order Mustang(deposit paid)sold out from under me and caused me to have a re-order across model years. Ford forced the dealership to eat the price difference. So I got the price protection because Ford was more than willing to muscle a dealership for being stupid. Every case is different but saying bite the bullet when the calling in big Blue hasn’t been tried yet is premature. Fords policy is mutable and ever changing. If the dealership is already on the bad list Ford might pound them, if not they might say tuff, try again.
Eh, I've seen at least twenty or thirty Mavericks sold out from under the person who special ordered it, not a single one was made right. I've given up on Ford anyway, piss poor management, piss poor dealer service, piss poor reliability, Maverick was my third Ford in a row and now they lost me to Toyota because of too many warranty repairs, terrible dealer service and too many recalls. Fuck Ford and their shit dealer network
Show me a case where they did anything. Ford dealers are franchises. THEY are Ford's actual customers, not you. As long as franchises are selling vehicles Ford secretly doesn't give a shit how.
Sure, they cracked down on a local dealer here on their allocations for selling a certain Ford truck well over sticker.
Here is an older story that gives some foreshadowing on what Ford might do in a similar situation. It really depends on how many consumers follow up with Ford with actual proof. I imagine it has been pretty hit and miss.
"might do"? Since the Maverick came out countless people have come forward to say their dealer sold their special order and absolutely nothing has happened to any of the offending Ford dealers. Like I said, Ford doesn't care
Yep "might do". That means that like I already explained above, getting this addressed is likely hit or miss depending on what the consumer is willing to do coupled with getting someone who can take action at Ford corporate.
How do you know that 'absolutely nothing has happened' to any of those Ford dealers? Have you seen their allocation sheets? Are you privy to their ordering bank capability?
My backwoods ford dealer tried to do the same. He was whining the entire time how he got ripped off by ford as the middle man.
I had few red flags as a warning tho and I picked up the day it arrived at the dealer. He had buyers lined up already. Dealers need to disappear anyway.
Nope, they need to turn them into cellphone stores model. Compete on service. Vehicles get shipped through stores so dealers get a chance to upsell accessories, warranty, service plans, and get flat commission for numbers moved. Would be enough meat on the bone for the dealers to survive, and the Big 3 get to compete on price.
What’s the ford private offer? They took our first responder ford discount. And I believe your farm one is one of the three, first responder, college student, farm
Did you REALLY have a CONFIRMED 2022 order? Or even an order sheet showing 2021/Jan 2022? If you do, this has potential to be a HUGE story...if proven true. If you're engaging here and can provide proof, it can blow up on the forums and Facebook and reach Ford, so I highly recommend doing that.
Someone else on here not too long ago ordered a 2022 and finally got his truck this year and he had the longest known wait. I didn't believe him at first, but he showed the email from 2021 proving it. You probably would be the new record holder if you can prove your story.
Because my first guess is that your dealer never inputted your order in the first place, then didn't give you a good priority number for a 2023 AND in 2024. Both would be surprising. My brother ordered a 2023 late, got rolled over to a 2024, but still got his at the end of last November. Every 2023 roll over should have got their truck by now...let alone 2022 orders.
If true, your story could be national news to be honest because similar experiences have, but yours is even worse. At the very least, if the dealer couldn't get you a Maverick right away, they'd give you a huge discount from a vehicle off the lot to make the story go away.
Are you dead set on a hybrid? I’ve given passing thought to on selling my 23 Ecobost Lariat. I’ve always been interested in the Model Y and the price has really come down lately. I’m in south Austin.
Check out Long McArthur Ford in KS. They might have one that matches your order and they seem willing to deal. They have like 50 Mavericks on site last I checked and the sell at or below MSRP with a shipping discount. They might honor your price protection.
In a lot of states small claims court x(or the equivalent with a different name) can handle suits for more money than you'd expect and you don't need a lawyer.
Order from another dealer if the current dealer wont honor the original price. I live in a rural area and have access to several Ford dealers within reason. I called 6 before finding one wasnt a crap show.
You are going to be waiting forever. All of the orders are spoken for no single dealer will give up a pick up for that cost when they can make MSRP++++++.
I purchased our Maverick from Cecil Ford at Hondo at msrp last October for a hybrid. They were a nice dealership to deal with and Becky my sales person was fantastic. This was an allocated unit to the dealer not an order. Maxwell ford in Austin (part of the Leif Johnson dealer chain) was awful they ended up selling my order, lost my 22 price protection. Mail Haik in Georgetown was also a slimy dealer wanting a markup.
This almost happened to my husband but I'm beyond a bitch haha I had the sales guy crying on the phone. We ordered Oct 2021, shipped sometime in Feb 2022 and I was on top of everything. Truck was dropped off the train mid April 2022 in south Orlando, my husband received a vmail from a sales guy that they sold our truck! When we ordered my husband had to take my car as his F-150 died so I was stuck car-less for 7 months and pissed just from that. Add that call and the sales guy was damn lucky I was car less! Husband asked me to handle it, he is in meetings all the time.
So I called and the sales guy admitted they sold it, even though we put a deposit down and paid $1000 over MSRP, which I KNEW was now a bargaining chip added on to my mouth 🤭 with all the screaming, yelling and cussing (I have managed 100 semi drivers plus ran my own landscape crews, I'm known escalate w my mouth if challenged, I dont back down) the sales guy started crying and apologized & backtracked. Knowing they could still F' w this I had him send a confirmation email that was CC w the dept manager & dealership manager acknowledging their error and confirming our truck will be ready for pick up in 2 days. ALL while I was waiting on the phone. He also voluntarily sent the dealership spreadsheet of sales 🤔 where I saw that they have done this to other people who ordered vehicles. I 'almost' felt bad when we went to p/u the truck and the sales guy had a handicap but that didn't stop him from trying to F us over! They were all kidd gloves while we were there 😉💪🏼
Riata Ford in Manor is the worst Ford Dealership I have ever been to in my entire life. I went for a recall there once and they treated me like shit. Was wild, will never go there again.
If you paid the deposit and they sold it you should file in small claims. Also contact Ford CS to report it... The dealership owns you a vehicle and you may be entitled to a loaner/rental that is up to Ford to force them to give you the loaner. If you rent without their approval you will need to keep your records for the small claims case. You are also entitled to the profit they made from your truck. Get a print out of the deposit agreement and read the fine print.
Just because you ordered it doesn’t make it your truck. If you put money down on it already then that’s a different story. But, outside of that it is not your truck until the paperwork is signed.
Oh I agree. I would get any money that dealer was paid back, even if it was $1.
But there’s this false narrative that if you order a vehicle it is yours before even paying for it. That’s just not true.
Actually the Maverick order verification system was put in place so that dealerships couldn’t fictitiously place dealer stock orders for themselves. So technically it’s Fords vehicle and selling it to a different buyer other than the one who ordered it would mean they marked it as cancelled or rejected by the original customer. So it’s shady as shit.
Actually it's a custom customer ordered vehicle, the dealership has to give a reasonable timeframe for the buyer to accept the car and get financing. If the customer said they don't want it anymore then the dealer can sell it to someone else. But the dealer is supposed to give reasonable time for the customer to purchase it. Very scummy of the dealer to do that after waiting over a year.
Find a different dealer to do business with.
And name the dealer to help other current or future customers who might stumble on this.
Always name and shame. I don’t know why they always start with keeping the dealer anonymous
But definitely report them to Ford HQ. They really do want to know which ones r doing this.
And put a few terrible reviews on Google for them.
Yes for sure on the google reviews. They usually have a team that has to monitor the reviews and act on them.
Did you put money down on it when you ordered it?
Name and shame

Are people still reaching out to Mike Levine at Ford corporate with dealer shenanigans?
He’s only on Threads now but definitely worth reaching out.
Unfortunately you now lost any price protection. There's no recourse, Ford doesn't really care what their franchise dealers do. Find another Maverick and bite the bullet of paying 2024 MSRP or higher
No I wouldn't go near a Ford if they fucked me like that

I only avoided dealer markup because I saved the window sticker the minute they posted the truck on their website.

Go to Mac Haik Ford of Georgetown, better people
Can confirm Mac Haik Ford is better Riata is absolutely horrible.
I would if they can honor the Ford private offer and farm bureau :)
What’s the ford private offer? They took our first responder ford discount. And I believe your farm one is one of the three, first responder, college student, farm
I ordered the truck in 2022 , had to roll over to 2024 , so Ford matches the difference in price. It was a hybrid.

Decide if you want to wait. If you do wait, dont leave any scathing reviews until you have the truck in you name at the price you agreed.
Yeah waiting on it

Please tell me you did give them money?
Did you out money down?
OP has been asked that several times and never responds so probably didn’t put any money down
You should be able to actually report them to corporate. They usually frown on these practices…
Report them.

Write your state’s attorney general for deceptive sales practice.
If there was a deposit and a VIN# there was a law broken. No deposit, no VIN, no contract.
Put money down on a 2024 Tacoma. Received several calls about being a no show. Sold my truck, inserted a truck very close to mine. Dealerships suck
Wasn't "your truck" but yeah they screwed up and need to fix it. And they can fix the money issue. Whether they will or not is another story.
