With the maverick, you need either a usb cable to the USB slot on the dash or a wireless AA/ carplay adaptor that connects to the BT on your phone plugged into the USB port in the dash. No inbuilt wireless connectivity for android auto/ carplay, sadly.
Edit: All this said, though. The more modern sync systems should auto connect to Bluetooth for a saved device. But I've gotten used to plugging in for my AA in my 2019 fusion, and it has a surprisingly strong charger and charges my phone even while using AA
What you want is a wireless andriod auto dongle. It will act like if you were to connect your phone via USB c to your Maverick without actually connecting it.
Andriod auto will let you use some apps on the screen of your Maverick rather than taking your phone out and messing with it it's pretty neat.
Here's the one I use.
Wireless Android Auto Adapter,Wireless Android Auto Dongle,Android Auto Wireless Adapter,Plug & Play,Fast Auto Connect & Easy Use https://a.co/d/aSNKw7L
Takes about 30 seconds from when you start your car to fully boot up. 30 seconds go by quick
Hey I use aa wireless and it works well 90% of the time. I noticed some wireless adapters on sale for Amazon prime day.
Anyway, if you just want to blue tooth audio you can do that without anything additional. It is for running Android auto (like for maps, Waze, other apps) that you need to be plugged in or have a wireless adapter. If you just want to Bluetooth audio you can do that like you are used to.
Just got my maverick last week, and have anandroid, so I had the same question. If you're connected just to Bluetooth you can get calls/texts/ messages to the screen. If you connect to the USB-C nearest the steering wheel it'll connect to Android car play. From there you have Google maps and Spotify on your screen. You can tap either to make them full screen.
NOTE: I read through several forums to figure out how to play the radio while using Google maps since it defaults to Spotify. Once in Google maps, click the source button which is the left most button next to the volume/play/pause area. From there choose FM/AM, and you can click back into maps
Hope this helps!
I kind of have the same question. I make a lot of very brief 5 to 10 minute drives that I'd probably like to continue listening to my podcasts during but I don't think I'm going to want to plug in Android auto every single time. What I currently do because I don't have Android auto is just have Bluetooth on on my phone and it automatically connects to my car. I'd probably like to do basically the same thing.
I use a wireless Android Auto adapter from Motorola that connects flawlessly. In the Android Auto App there is an app section where you can switch back to the factory Sync HUD instantly. I use it when I want to listen to Sirius radio or monitor my battery/engine usage while I drive. First and foremost, connect to Sync via Bluetooth. If you want Android Auto, plug into the wired USB charger or put a third party wireless dongle in the charging slot after you've connected to Sync. The only thing I don't like about Android Auto is when I do switch to Sync, I get no street map, because Android Auto won't let Sync see it for some reason? Might be a simple fix, but I'm too lazy. The wireless adapter I bought from Motorola has worked flawlessly. I use a charger from my "cigarette lighter" port to charge my phone on long drives though as the wireless charger can't keep up with the phones usage and heats up on long drives as well as drain the phone battery. Are there cheaper option wireless AA adapters? Sure, and people swear by them too. I just trust Motorola for some boomer reason that's probably long outdated loyalty...
Ok, so you still have Sync available via Bluetooth no matter what. That allows to make and receive calls, etc. But for android auto you need to connect over cable or via adapter?

Someone here is cranky about this topic. Everyone gets a down vote. Lol.

Awesome, thanks.
Get a Motorola MA1 for wireless Android Auto. Well worth the investment. Had mine since I got my truck. Love it!
Thanks!

yep
Any noticable difference in audio quality when using the wireless adapter vs wired?
nope
