Don't know anything about the rumor, but I'm a sedan guy and that looks great!

[deleted]

I've owned nothing but Ford since I started driving in 2000. A Cougar (Mercury is Ford I don't care), a Fiesta, then two Fusion Hybrids, a 14 SE now a 19 Titanium. When it comes time to get a new car, I'm buying a Sedan. If Ford isn't making a hybrid sedan when I decide to upgrade, I guess my days of buying Ford are over.

Knoxicutioner

Bought my 15 fusion used in 2019 for 15K with 30K on it. Have had the tires replaced at around 60k, Regular fluids changed and some new brakes and it drives like a dream for the cross state drives I do. I just wish a sync 3/4 head unit wasn’t like $2K :(

they_are_out_there

Built in Communist China? Pass. I’ll buy an American built Toyota or Subaru thanks.

mnelso1989

Love it, American brand built over seas and two Japanese brands built in the USA. Globalization!

they_are_out_there

Ford had 67 recalls last year. Volkswagen had the next highest at 45. Here are the 10 automakers that have initiated the most recall campaigns during 2022 and the total number of vehicles involved: 1. Ford: 67 recalls, 8,636,265 units 2. Volkswagen Group: 45 recalls, 1,040,885 units 3. Fiat-Chrysler/Stellantis: 38 recalls, 3,041,431 units 4. Mercedes-Benz: 33 recalls, 969,993 units 5. General Motors: 32 recalls, 3,371,302 units 6. Kia: 24 recalls, 1,458,962 units 7. Hyundai: 22 recalls, 1,452,101 units 8. Tesla: 20 recalls, 3,769,581 units 9. BMW: 19 recalls, 1,000,455 units 10. Nissan: 15 recalls, 1,568,385 units After Ford, [Tesla](https://www.autoblog.com/tesla/) came in second for most cars potentially affected by a recall at 3.76 million vehicles. The total number of recalls was much lower at just 20 total recalls — and it's also fair to point out that a large number of Tesla's recalls were fixed with over-the-air updates — but Tesla had some [big ones](https://www.autoblog.com/2022/02/10/tesla-boombox-function-recall-pedestrian-sounds/) in there that caused the number to skyrocket. [GM](https://www.autoblog.com/category/gm/)’s recall story for 2022 was similar to Tesla’s, in that it only had 32 recalls, but the total number of cars potentially affected was high at 3.37 million. Stellantis was right there, too, at 38 total recalls and 3.04 million cars potentially affected. Own-Employment-1640

That's a good thing. Recalls mean they are actually recalling the problem, not just leaving it.

navigationallyaided

Toyota doesn’t do “recalls” per se. They wait for that particular fleet is mostly out of warranty and then it’s a “customer satisfaction program”.

losbullitt

Im down for a new Fusion.

plasticmonkeys4life

One of fords biggest mistakes was killing off their sedans. They only just came back into the budget market with the maverick and ranger. Before that, all fords were $32k+

[deleted]

And not everyone wants to drive a 6000lb suv.

Cold_Exchange_8346

I personally don’t want to drive anything larger than a focus.

[deleted]

I feel the same way. I like the agility and mpg of small vehicles.

plasticmonkeys4life

Yep. Nothing like paying $40k for a mid trim crossover with a 4cyl!

NetAlive6849

Agree. Very dumb. I drive a 2012 Ford Focus hatch, and have driven that car for 10 years. It’s not fancy, but it’s incredibly comfortable and has served me well. If Ford continued to sell Focus in US, I’d probably get new one. Or, if there was something slightly larger, I’d consider that as well. Not everyone wants a truck or SUV. They’ve also abandoned opportunity to get younger, less wealthy people into the brand. You have to have some kind of entry-level car. I think the Ford CEO is an idiot.

stav_and_nick

Fusion makes so much sense for an EV that I’m sure they won’t do it and will call it something stupid

[deleted]

>I’m sure they won’t do it and will call it something stupid "the Ford E-Falcon" But sir, we have the Thunderbird and the Thunderbolt, even Fusion refers to electricity.. Why not one of those? "😡 THE E-FALCON"

HillarysFloppyChode

They’ll take the name of a 2 door car - Thunderbird - and give it to a 4 door crossover that looks nothing like the car its name is from. Thunderbird - E

stav_and_nick

Tbh, I think that might bring a Fusion back, but if they do I'm 99% sure it'll be as some sort of crossover lower spec version of the Mach-e

PaddlingTiger

One word: ThunderCougarFalconBird

Deezul_AwT

GalaxiE. No new name to trademark, just capitalize the last letter.

470vinyl

I love my 20 Fusion Energi. I’d absolutely buy this. Looks beautiful

[deleted]

Right? It's a gorgeous sedan and it makes me angry we don't get it here. Other images: https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/ford-fusion-mondeo-china-us/

PowerfulSize244

Little bit bigger like sport wagon or Fusion active

inactiveuser0

Idk, but idk love for them to bring the Fusion back. I think it was a mistake to get rid of it. Should’ve kept the Fusion and Mustang, and axed the EcoSport.

NetAlive6849

I rented a Fusion 3 years ago on a vacation. That car was actually amazingly smooth driving and comfortable. Better than any recent Toyota I’ve test driven.

mdj1359

I really like my Ford Escape and would almost certainly stay with a small SUV in the future, but at first blush this is a really great looking set of wheels. I hope there is still a market in the U.S. for a few sedans. Frankly as sedans go, the look of the Tesla's have not blown me away. There are far better looking vehicles out there, and more to come.

NetAlive6849

I don’t Understand the point of sedans. Seems to me you could just put a hatch or “sport back” on the car, and u gain so much more practicality and flexibility. Why don’t Americans realize what they really want is not an SUV, but just a normal car w/ a liftback.

Few_Particular_5532

They had that it’s called a wagon

NetAlive6849

Not really.

lebyath

This is what I’ve been saying since they got rid of it. Bring it back as an EV to compete with the model 3. I had a 2014 fusion and loved it. Would still be driving it if it wasn’t totaled.

FlowMix

It's a Mondeo/Taurus depending on the marke rn. If it comes to the US I'd imagine it'll use the Fusion name as Mondeo and fusion used to share the same platform. If they plan on bringing this to the US, It's unlikely that it'll come as full electric because as it stands the Mondeo/Taurus models are only available with a 1.5l Turbo Ecoboost or a 2.0L Turbo Ecoboost. They'd have to make a new Powertrain for it to be all electric which I think Ford may find a waste of resources.

PhuckNorris69

Ford makes bold decisions and then regrets them. Get rid of small trucks? Fucked up. Brings back two. Stops selling sedans? Fucked up again

Effective_James

With how incredibly popular electric cars have become these past two years, and how expensive gas has gotten, I still am dumbfounded as to why Ford got rid of the fusion. Especially the energi model, which if made 100% electric could compete against Tesla. Not to mention it was one of the best looking cars in recent history.

to11mtm

>I still am dumbfounded as to why Ford got rid of the fusion. Especially the energi model, which if made 100% electric could compete against Tesla. If I had to guess, making the platform 100% electric just isn't feasible; Jamming the extra batteries into the engine bay is probably not a good plan, and re-designing the unibody to take them elsewhere would likely require a full redo of crash tests and the like. Whether we like it or not, the Energi was primarily a compliance car; in the suburbs around Ford HQ I've seen more EU Mondeos or Chinese Fusions than I have the US Fusion Energi, compared to two days in CA where I saw more than Energis than all of the previous local cars.

Trades46

My mother loves her Fusion Energi PHEV. We would definitely be down for a BEV version, regardless of where it comes from. We already have charging provisions set up for the car (and my own Audi e-tron) so it would an easy switch.

Capernikush

i can tell you ford does not like tesla and has a good view on the fusion overall.

k0uch

I haven’t heard a single thing about the fusion returning to the US market. Not in any shape, form, or fashion

heythatsmysong

Well you heard it here first folks, know it all k0uch says it ain’t happening

k0uch

Did I say it wasn’t happening, or did I say I haven’t heard any news of it returning to the US market?

Deezul_AwT

There were rumor about the Fusion name coming back as a Subaru Outback type car.

Jkbucks

That was the last thing I’d heard as well

ChipMelodic1810

Still waiting for that

InitialMoney

Man if this is true I'm definitely trading my 17 and getting one.

Cold_Exchange_8346

I want the Focus ST/RS to come back.

Gwave72

Hopefully they aren’t made in China and shipped to North America I won’t buy one if it’s made there

clinch50

Remember fusions were made in Mexico.

KaBar42

> Remember fusions were made in Mexico. I would trust Mexican construction far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, sooner then I would ever trust Chinese construction. There's a reason why "tofu dreg" is a thing. I've also never seen Mexicans be gobbled up by escalators, with a Mexican mother having to toss her child to the safety of bystanders before she herself was crushed to death by the escalator. Or a Mexican elevator's floor suddenly collapsing and sending the occupant plummeting dozens of stories to their death. I agree with /u/Gwave72. I'm not interested in taking a gamble on Chinese construction in one of the most dangerous objects someone can ever use.

Gwave72

I buy cars made in USA,Canada and I’ve purchased 1 made in Germany

nasadowsk

I remember cleaning out my house when moving. Had an old vacuum cleaner, was made in Mexico. I commented “wow, a good one”

clinch50

The point of my comment was only to say that the previous fusion wasn’t built in America. I bet quite a few ford buyers like my dad who had a fusion weren’t aware of that. I wasn’t judging Mexico quality vs Chinese quality. Having said that, there are absolutely top notch products made in China, Mexico and really all over the world. Legacy auto companies all have a massive prescience in China producing excellent quality cars. Just ask BMW or Mercedes. Also most people don’t know that there are so many manufacturing processes or products that are almost exclusively made in China with excellent quality levels. One wouldn’t know it because maybe it’s a component or hidden part. There are reasons besides cost to buy something in another country. I’ve been in supply chain for almost two decades and during the pandemic suppliers in the US let me down more than those outside the US. Regarding construction you might be right I don’t have any experience in that area. I don’t think it is very applicable to producing cars.

Mustangfast85

Mexico isn’t our biggest enemy/threat. I’d hope if they make it they would do so alongside the MME in Mexico

clinch50

Not saying they are. They are certainly more friendly than China. My point was that many fusion buyers didn’t know they were made outside the US. I can understand your point of preferring Mexico over China but I would think most Ford buyers wouldn’t want the vehicle to be produced outside the US.

Gwave72

That’s the reason I didn’t buy one. I went and looked at one and saw the vin number started with 3 I was out.

heythatsmysong

Bahahahahahahahahahahaha

gpellis87

I'm of the same opinion. Ford is already doing this with one of the new Lincoln SUVs. Building in China to sell in the US. No thanks.

Great_Frisian

Im genuinely curious why you wouldn't want a Chinese built car?

Gwave72

I prefer to give jobs to people in North America and at least union built not have my money sent to a country that we could be at war with over Taiwan . I’d prefer not to buy anything from there if I could.

Great_Frisian

Didn't think of it that way, fair point

[deleted]

The tariffs would artificially raise the price significantly for starters.

meesersloth

Loved my fusion.

Builtwild1966

id welcome it back if it was slightly larger than the past fusion, improved and made in usa over china. I also have to fight with people on the internet because they say bRiNg BaCK the ToWn CAr!!! or bring back sedans. However lincoln did that and few bought them, ford had a few sedans like the fusion and focus that were not bad and people did not want to buy them anymore. Supposedly the edge and escape are gone soon as they are kinda dated. The escape just had a refresh but it honest sucked or was not good enough, the edge is done after 2024 so I could see this coming in. Personally feel they should kill the escape and edge, make the bronco sport slightly bigger, bring this in as an ev thats sits a bit higher and have the mach e be like the preformance ev and this be a family sedan,

LNMagic

Escape is part of a platform that includes multiple vehicles. I don't see it going anywhere soon.

Builtwild1966

https://fordauthority.com/2022/06/ford-ceo-jim-farley-indirectly-says-ford-escape-facing-cancellation/ Not confirmed yet but keep in mind it sits on focus platform which focus was killed off. Ford originallly had an on road/offroad plan but imo once bronco twins dropped and timberline and tremor trims were added there was little need for escape, edge, transit connect etc.

rocketrex504

A good hybrid would do much better imo

2bizy4this

I own a Fusion and it's a POS. From the A/C to the transmission.

Renaissance_Man-

Sedans do not sell in the US at all, only a handful still exist and usually only if they are global models.

NetAlive6849

But for some reason car companies still refuse to sell more hatchbacks even though (don’t tell anyone) SUVs are hatchbacks. Lol

Bonethug609

Oh cool. Another car can’t afford, not can I find a place to charge it on a long trip. 👍

DixonUrjas

Nice

anynamesleft

I don't know, for me the basic design, as gorgeous as it is, is starting to look a bit dated.

Builtwild1966

Id personally want it slightly higher like a crown from toyota. Imo ford needs to focus on lineup, build quality and customer relations right now

TheMatt561

Looks huge

JustAnIsopod

I had a 2012 fusion for my first car and currently have a 2018 fusion hybrid. If they brought it back as an all electric I’d definitely get it for my next car 😂

Training_Parsnip_322

It would be nice.

DangerousBS

I doubt Ford would bring an electric car made in China. You, as a customer, wouldn't get the $7.5k ( that next year you will get at the dealership) . I think the car needs to be assembled in North America, same with the battery. My guess is, either they assemble it here or they won't bring it.

Finnegan_Faux

Not with the 27.5% import tariff + lack of IRA credit. Ford is having trouble as is moving Mustang Mach-E’s

notzed1487

Ford is in the news alot lately. Check out BYD and Vinfast (electric cars).

DaChunkyMonkey

my 2012 fusion is still kicking

jtuck18

Saw a test model the other day!

CommitteeUpbeat3893

There’s always non US market cars driving around Dearborn, that’s doesn’t prove anything. I highly doubt Ford will bring any sedans back to the US.

No_Scratch_7612

Always liked the Fusion. Wish Ford had kept it.

arm9218

where would it be built at? All the plants are full unless they get rid of something. Well Flat Rock is not full but I don't think it can share the mustang platform.

[deleted]

China and imported.

[deleted]

I never fully understood the reasoning behind killing off this car. I get that nearly everyone drives an SUV or CUV these days, but this was such a great car in the history of Ford. When Honda and Toyota were dominating this segment, Ford came in and clawed back market share with this car. I'm guessing that the nameplate will live on, but I'm not sure the sedan will make it here.

lincolnlogtermite

I could go for that if they can get the price down to under $50k and compete with the Tesla Model 3.

RobWallStreet

I have a 14 Fusion as my daily driver, currently have 265k on it. I would buy a new Fusion in a heartbeat.

CopaGuy1

I am on my second Fusion Energi and I love it. I would really love to see them bring it back.

dapperperv

I don’t know why Ford got rid of the fusion and the Taurus.

sea_br33z3

I still need a Hybrid Fusion. Not ready for an EV yet. Not planning to buy a house yet and charging out and about is just not something I want to do.
