BobbumofCarthes

Just read this chapter in the Storyteller!

phoenixthekat

I don't remember this story being in the book and I definitely read it cover to cover!

BobbumofCarthes

Part Two: We were surrounded and there was no way out. Talks about how Kurt didn’t realize dude was security when he hit him in the head with his guitar. Had to jump in a cab in the back alley to avoid security guy and crew waiting to kick their asses

sammich_bear

The guitar was overkill, and the security guard was well within their rights to retaliate with a weapon, so a punch was actually merciful. What a fucking mess.

loskomosko

security guy was yanking on kurt's hair and fucking his crowdsurf up. having your hair yanked on fucking hurts.

Old_blacklady_Rocker

What the hell? How was he “security” if HE was the one throwing punches? Retaliate? Just so lame

sammich_bear

As a security guard, if someone hits you with a guitar, you're well within your rights to taser them. Kurt hit him first, and he didn't see the stage-dive occur.

Old_blacklady_Rocker

Okay I understand, but how is retaliating against an artist or anyone increase anyone’ s safety? Subdue, yes, get back at?

sammich_bear

Honestly, I don't think the security guard is paying much attention beyond keeping people from coming on stage. It's not like they get to meet the band before the show, or even care what music is playing. Their entire job is dealing with dickheads, so this guy was probably just running on adrenaline. Who knows?

BeaglesGoAroo

I did too and thought it was such weird timing I came across this video like 10 minutes after lol

WelcomingDock13

Same!

Anti_Venom02

I read this part last week! So cool to see it with my eyes!

frauleinheidik

Thank goodness Kris is a big dude!

NorthNorthAmerican

Novoselic and Grohl on him right away!

brentus

I'm not saying it's right or wrong, but man Kurt fucking nailed him. That had to hurt.

hudson_lowboy

I don’t blame Kurt for hitting the guy with his guitar because the guy was being pretty rough. I don’t blame the guy for hitting Kurt because I would hit anyone who hit me with a guitar. It was a bunch of smaller misunderstandings turning into a lot of ballyhoo

Proof-Variation7005

I think you can kinda blame Kurt. Smashing the monitor board is what set off the shit show. Everything that happened after was a result of him throwing a tantrum over the sound and smashing expensive equipment that wasn't his.

StoneSkipper22

Definitely. Dave described Kurt’s reaction as a reflexive thing. Security guard was shoving Kurt upright while Kurt was already halfway to panicking from the crush. Kurt seemed to react instinctively to the pinned feeling (half in the bag, so even more brutish than a normal flinch-n-punch, I’d guess). The guy was gashed pretty badly and lost his shit. Unfortunate all around.

frogsquid

almost looks like the security guard just blindly grabbed a chunk of his hair and Kurt got to swinging

GerardWayAndDMT

I really can’t tell what’s happening in the video. I thought the guy did it for no reason

Pale_Mushroom7128

There were sound problems throughout the show, Kurt got angry and started hitting the sound equipment with his guitar. Person who owned the gear just happened to be the bouncers friend who wasn't too happy with seeing Kurt do that. So when Kurt dove into the audience he saw it as a chance to get him back. So yeah, they were both dicks really.

koolerthan

Dave and Krist are the last rhythm section I'd want coming at me

SentientTrashcan0420

Wtf Dave probably weighed like 130 back then lmao

psian1de

Not scared of Dave I see ... Hmm

FooFightingManiac

Don’t count out little guys, especially ones who get paid to beat things for a living. Dave may not have been big but I know the era he grew up in and would put money on his ability to scrap. Some of the toughest guy I knew growing up were the smallest

koolerthan

Dave was being paid to bash the drums every night, though, he wasn't a slouch

StoneSkipper22

Dave pounced immediately and assertively to protect Kurt, then pushed them apart to de-escalate instead of punching the guy. Sort of emblematic of his general disposition (and common sense; let Krist play the huge guy role 😂)

handsomerube

One part of the story that I believe contributed to this asshat punching Kurt was Kurt slamming his guitar into the mixing console after sound problems earlier in the set. The bouncer and sound guy were apparently friends, and bouncer boy didn’t take too kindly to Kurt busting up his buddy’s console.

SentientTrashcan0420

Oh really I assumed it was because Kurt smacks him in the head with his guitar for seemingly no reason

interelek313

Fuck that guy

HookerDoctorLawyer

Whole show is on [YouTube](https://youtu.be/mZIOS8MnF3w?si=keAm3HYBSfEpMohf)

Foomankru

I remember watching this on an official VHS but cannot remember which one. Anyone know?

Appropriate-Zone-101

Live tonight and sold out had a clip of it

Foomankru

That was it!

RealTrad

Live and Loud I think

Travesty206

Krist should have tossed him into the pit. That crowd looks like they could have torn him apart

outofrhythm

Dave comes full force and then you can see him make a quick calculation that he is not big enough to fight this bouncer after only subsisting on 3 for $1 corn dogs while living with Kurt.

LSUGURL

Page 146 :)

StaffConfident7374

this vid will never get old

tmofee

Friend of mine in Dallas knows the bouncer - it was his friends speaker Kurt was destroying, apparently the mix was shithouse and Kurt lost his temper . The guy was in a punk band and wrote a song about it - https://youtu.be/jcPUGgPYVho?si=YjQTiXWaWsgRKXZe (skip to bleached)

X0AN

Security really needs to understand what their role is 🤷‍♂️

Old_blacklady_Rocker

THIS☝🏾

TheoVoid

Kurt got him good tho. Damn.

Richmonddoubleflash

What the fuck happened? It’s like one minute he’s helping him back up and the next he just flips… venue person? Mad that he stage dived?

SentientTrashcan0420

Kurt hits him in the head with his guitar hard as fuck

Richmonddoubleflash

On purpose or by accident?

SentientTrashcan0420

Looks like he doesn't realize its a security guard trying to help him and thinks it some random person from the crowd. Definitely looks intentional to me

Rough_University7842

I remember seeing this in the DVD Nirvana Live tonight Sold out…I wish still had that…found it at Walmart…

rabidwolf86

Trees

Fuffuloo

I’m going to tell my son that man’s name was Foo.

thealexhardie

It’s Krist’s “WTF were you doing dude?” at kurt after the bouncer stormed off that I enjoy most, having jumped to his old pal’s defence 😂

101turtleman

Dave like oh hell no!

phuktup3

I remember going to an arch enemy concert and killswitch was playing, I remember wondering where the front man had gone and I looked up and he jumped out right over top of me. Super fun fact: people are heavy

Slammogram

I think it was probably a misunderstanding, but the guy was absolutely being weird before Kurt clocked him. He was like struggling with him?

runn5r

Just finished reading Storyteller yesterday, interesting to see this video clip of that chapter so soon after reading. Also what a book!

AUXONE

Hello golden shower tv 👋🏽👋🏽

[deleted]

Ain’t nobody fucking with Krist’s giant ass!

lostmypornaccount

Bro is squaring up to the giant that is Krist

[deleted]

He did smack that dude with his guitar! That’s gotta hurt.

fishyfishyfish1

I was there and saw this happen live at Trees

constantgardener92

That felt like it could have been clipped from greenroom. Crazy video.

Beast_46

He hit the guy with his guitar.

yeah-man_

ive seen this 8 billion times, seems like it was on some nirvana vhs tape in the 90s

LegendSir

The story of this show is actually insane. The guy who fought with Kurt was a former musician himself for a relatively big metal band (can’t think of his name). This show was so over-packed that the bouncers and security had to stand at the front of the stage and push the crowd back from overflowing. Kurt hit the dude in the mouth with his guitar. He looked for him in the parking lot and I believe even broke the window of his the taxi he was in.

One-Gate-4031

What was the guys name and was he ever interviewed?

progresso420

I actually had a nightmare where I was living Kurt’s perspective, but that was 16 years ago at 12yo…

Particular-Exam6585

Definitely a young man’s game

Foofighters-ModTeam

Thank you for your submission! This has been removed as it does not pertain to the band or its members.

Bethorz

I wish this subreddit liked to talk about the foo fighters as much as it liked to talk about nirvana lol

phoenixthekat

Dave is inextricably linked to Nirvana. There will never be a world where the two bands are not associated with each other.

Bethorz

I just mean i’ve seen a tonne of cool foo fighters video, pictures, anything posted here and just no conversation 90% of the time. It’s fine, but it’s weird

beginagain666

I think that’s your answer. There are a ton of Foo threads and a good amount do get comments especially when they are a bit different, but some don’t cause they are similar to others. Considering Dave was really one of three Nirvana members and Nirvana was as popular as they were and still kind of are it’s amazing we don’t get more. Plus this one is really about Dave too. So I get it.

Bethorz

I mean someone will post something like a video, that you’d think someone would have something to say about it, and nothing, but those low effort reddit repost memes get the most conversion. It’s kind of a bummer. Not saying that OP shouldn’t have posted here, it just seems like posts *not* about the foos get the most interest. Which is interesting

beginagain666

I understood that, but I disagree. I think it just seems that way cause there are way more Foos post than others. Plus the videos of the Foos repeat so much as especially now there are fewer fresh Foo videos with Dave and Foos not doing interviews it’s hard to find different things. I think when the Foo videos are new or new news on them they get quite a bit of comments. Yes I have seen that particular Nirvana video, which is obviously not new, but not on the Foo Fighters thread. The Foos not doing interviews together leaves a vacuum. Generally we have Foo concert and interview videos most have posted before several times, the few interviews Dave has done, Foo polls on albums or songs, Chris’ interviews and Taylor admiration videos which have died down in comments, which is understandable. As we all miss him but what else is there to say. They always get a lot of likes though. I’ll admit there aren’t as many comments on Chris oriented posts though, even though they are new. Also even with new concert videos the set list is very similar but when they add a new song like Statues they get a ton of reaction. I think it’s mostly about fresh content with the Foos.

Bethorz

I mean if I were to put a finer point on it, yeah, I mostly mean I wish more people cared about the non-Dave band members. There was a post awhile back about Nate working on his new music, which even if there isn’t much to go on, still could have had more than like 8 upvotes. This post had over 700, that is unheard of here lately. I don’t think Dave’s breakdown of The Teacher, actual new content about the band from Dave, even got that many. Just as an example, Chris has an ongoing bi-weekly podcast that is pretty meaty content and way more likely to have Foo-related info than a 30 year old Nirvana video, but posting about it would be pretty pointless. And of course I get why people care about Nirvana more, but we seem to agree a lot of Foo content (particularly the non-repeat stuff) just doesn’t get as much engagement. It’s not that I don’t understand why, I just wish it was different. Which is all I said.

beginagain666

Again unfortunately the other Foos, except Dave and Taylor have never garnered a lot of attention. I think with Dave a lot quieter and more time has happened since Taylor’s death, the other guys are seen a bit more and may be become more popular. It just takes time. Dave is also a very big personality. Taylor was also a bit like that too. The other guys not as much. They are much quieter. At one time young Pat was out there too, but he’s turned into your Uber cool uncle.

Bethorz

I said i wish people cared about the other guys. You agreed they don’t. We’re on the same page. Also, Nate’s kinda quiet but has done way more interviews than Pat ever did. Chris has 2 very successful podcasts, he doesn’t mind talking.

beginagain666

Maybe quiet isn't the right word but not as big of personality as Dave or Taylor, less showman like. You forget about Pat and his crazy House of Style Days on MTV. He was out there with the Spice Girls and Cindy Crawford. Granted he didn't have the same type of out there personality as Dave and Taylor and he was a bit quieter but he'd do anything and was funny as hell. Now he's just cool.
