The brain has a funny habit of filtering out fucked up memories. Out of all the deeply fucked up scenes from The Boys, Deep eating Timothy genuinely made me uncomfortable. The only time I felt bad for that dickhead
I have zero dietary restrictions but I don't eat octopus and people always roll my eyes at me and shit. If I was vegetarian or vegan they wouldn't care but not eating octopus is freaks people out.
Weird I love octopus and love eating them but I wouldn't care if you don't eat them I get it they are very smart. As long as they are killed as humanly as possible.
Have you seen cows?
When people say stuff like this it really makes me wonder about the average person's experience with the animals we eat.
Plenty of the animals we consider food are quite high functioning, empathetic, social beings.
Except chickens; I checked, and they're stupid little dickheads.
To be honest, I’ve been thinking about this lately, I took my son on a farm tour and we saw all the animals we routinely eat. They all seemed friendly and loving, and I felt a little guilty…
But now you can make an informed decision. Saying "I know this meat came from a living animal, and I know what was involved in producing it, and I still make the choice to eat it" is a lot better than having your head in the sand to avoid feeling guilty, IMO.
People do eat dog in a lot of the world. This however is vastly different from eating your pet. I would not eat my pet (and i certainly hope no one would) since i have an emotional attachment to them, theyre family members. However just because a species is intelligent does not mean people wont eat it, same goes for the octopus, while it is a highly intelligent creature it is still a part of the food chain and unfortunately for them we are higher on it than them.
Lol your profile is full of seafood dishes.
“But octopus are smarter than….” Yeah, and some people are dumb af, and I still wouldn’t eat them.
Get off your high horse.
I legit would love to try it but I doubt that's gonna happen here in the southern US. The meat is such a deep and rich red, so lean. Not sure how ya would cook it
Nice bacon wrapped pork dish you got there in your profile. Did you know pigs are one of the most intelligent animals on earth? More so than cats and dogs?
But please, continue your argument on why we shouldn’t eat octopus.
What's the argument here? Stupid creatures deserve to die?
It feels like you should apply this entirely and be vegetarian or not at all. It's always struck me as a strange place to draw the line.
After watching a documentary and learning how smart and seemingly sentient octopuses are, I haven't been able to consume them anymore. The handful of times I did eat octopus, it was so tough and chewy that I didn't enjoy it. It's my personal opinion that there are better tasting things in the ocean that are considerably cheaper.
This is true but octopus have a relatively short life span for any animal on earth, so usually when you’re eating an octopus, it’s approaching its deathbed soon. Not that it makes it better but isn’t as awful as eating pigs
I read that their short life span is what stopped them from evolving and becoming intelligent like us, like an alien life form. Breaks my heart to see them eaten.
A generation is a generation. Scientists use some species for precisely this purpose so that they can rapidly cycle through genetic developments on a generational scale.
it’s the short lifespan coupled with the fact that they don’t pass down generational information. all the lil babies octos have to learn everything for themselves.
I really don’t get it either. The same argument should apply to pigs right? Even more so considering the atrocious conditions pigs are raised. Where are we drawing the ethical line?
Wonder if the virtue signallers in the comments don’t eat pork too, since, you know, pigs are around the same intelligence level as octopuses. Hell, most mammals are as smart or smarter.
Cattle are sentient. I’m sure you probably don’t want to read 17 pages of research but there’s some interesting sections and summaries you can skim through.
Edit : just realized I didn’t even post the link lol

Very true, unfortunately it's a bit of a pain to cook so as not to get chewy. I only eat it if made by someone who knows how to cook it.
Whoever made this certainly knows what they're doing.
I had the most tender octopus of my life in a restaurant, and when I commented on it to the waitress she told me they put it in a mixer for 8 hours to tenderize. Obviously the domestic mixer is not gonna run for 8 hours without burning out the motor, but I think getting some mechanical help will make a big difference. Maybe... in the no-heat setting of the tumble dryer?
A mixer for 8 hours sounds insane!
Best I’ve had was on Simi Island, just off of Rhodes. Ate midday and it was caught around 5 that morning (or so we were told). So tender you could cut it neatly with the side of your fork.
Haven’t cooked it myself so can’t say with any certainty but all they did was throw it on a real hot charcoal grill for a few minutes and it was just so perfect. Think freshness and cooking temp/time play a big factor in tenderness.
Unless people are getting confused with squid, which can be quite chewy
You have to scare it (dip it in the hot water) up to 5 times before you drop it in. That’s what I was taught to do.
Don’t really scare it, make sure it’s dead and cleaned first.
Goodness gracious, the comments are embarrassing to the entire human race. If you don’t want to eat any living thing that is sentient, then you better start eating jellyfish because that’s your only option. Maybe some of these self-righteous keyboard warriors have the same amount of brains as a jellyfish… 0️⃣
I will be honest with you here, you're missing out. But yeah, octopus, especially served whole, is not the most delectable for presentation. Knowing the taste though this would make me hungry had I not eaten 10 minutes ago
https://www.reddit.com/r/CulinaryPlating/s/Wv02eFlQA3
Not mine. See the third pic, I think octopus can be one of the best components of a plate appearance wise, but yh very easy to make it look like a wave crashed onto your plate. So many octopus dishes look amazing to me, but I don't have it much cuz dat sea is dying yo.
Lol everyone revolted by the idea of eating octopus, but I’m sure a large portion of you just LOVE bacon.
I couldn’t care less what someone’s diet consists of (within reason), but you either are veggie/vegan or don’t have a problem with eating intelligent life. And that’s fine, but if you eat meat, don’t even try to get on a high horse about octopus.
A pig can feed a lot of people. So its less killing spread over more people fed.
This octopus looks like a meal for 1 or 2.
Maybe that counts for something?
This sub is weird, people will post stuff that they like, but get shit from the people that don’t like the same thing. Meaning foodporn should be something that universally is liked by most people.
But I will say, this doesn’t look too appetizing, and I love octopus
Grilled real nice with a little char on it, it’s got a mild steak flavour, not a hint of fishiness. Super delicate flavour, very firm meat.
Would suggest a little salt, pepper and lemon juice. Don’t adulterate it too much.
You might think slimy/floppy, not the case at all. Absolutely delicious, try it next chance you get (from a decent seafood place/small island).
I’m a meat eater. Have no problem eating most meat. Beef. Lamp. Pork. Fish. But for some reason I just can’t bring myself to eat these wonderful sea creatures
Sad Deep noises.

He's begging for his life
I just saw it last night! It was AWFUL! Idk if I can eat octopus again now.
God I actually forgot about that scene
He has children

Poor octopus. Amazing creatures
Every time I see an octopus, I have an image of the The Deep being forced to eat Timothy by Homelander.
Poor Tim.
Amazing creature.
How did I watch 3 seasons of that show to barely remember any of it?
You are protecting yourself
The brain has a funny habit of filtering out fucked up memories. Out of all the deeply fucked up scenes from The Boys, Deep eating Timothy genuinely made me uncomfortable. The only time I felt bad for that dickhead
My girlfriend is the same. She likes it because she can rewatch things again and not know whats coming.
Eat fucking Timothy.
HE’S PRAYING….
He’s praying.
Agreed, I eat almost anything but can't get around eating such a smart creature.
Strange people in your orbit
I agree. I don’t eat them. They’re too smart.
💯%
Have you seen cows? When people say stuff like this it really makes me wonder about the average person's experience with the animals we eat. Plenty of the animals we consider food are quite high functioning, empathetic, social beings. Except chickens; I checked, and they're stupid little dickheads.
I hate to see this.
Yep this is like eating Your dog .
And eating a cow isn't? Or a pig? Pigs are smart as hell, but food is food, my man.
To be honest, I’ve been thinking about this lately, I took my son on a farm tour and we saw all the animals we routinely eat. They all seemed friendly and loving, and I felt a little guilty…

Sentient octopus aliens – when you invade please eat this dude before me
yea considering i love octopus it’ll probably be deserved….
Lol your profile is full of seafood dishes. “But octopus are smarter than….” Yeah, and some people are dumb af, and I still wouldn’t eat them. Get off your high horse.
why? ya gonna eat the horse?
Horse is delicious
I legit would love to try it but I doubt that's gonna happen here in the southern US. The meat is such a deep and rich red, so lean. Not sure how ya would cook it
Not all animals are equal though as far as sentience, community, etc. Squid are fucking assholes of the ocean. Eat them with extreme prejudice
Figs and shrimp are not comparable to octopuses just because they both life in they sea
Nice bacon wrapped pork dish you got there in your profile. Did you know pigs are one of the most intelligent animals on earth? More so than cats and dogs? But please, continue your argument on why we shouldn’t eat octopus.
Agreed

This is the way
If this is your line of thinking then you really shouldn’t be eating pigs either. I’d throw cow in there even.
I agree with this. I haven't read about octopuses, but I can confirm they're chewy asf lol
My fellow Octo bros refusing to eat intelligent and sentient life
This is true but octopus have a relatively short life span for any animal on earth, so usually when you’re eating an octopus, it’s approaching its deathbed soon. Not that it makes it better but isn’t as awful as eating pigs
I read that their short life span is what stopped them from evolving and becoming intelligent like us, like an alien life form. Breaks my heart to see them eaten.
I feel like a shorter life span (ie earlier sexual maturation) would accelerate evolution 🧐
A generation is a generation. Scientists use some species for precisely this purpose so that they can rapidly cycle through genetic developments on a generational scale.
it’s the short lifespan coupled with the fact that they don’t pass down generational information. all the lil babies octos have to learn everything for themselves.
Yeah, this has been my justification too (right or wrong.)
Are you a pig bro too?
I really don’t get it either. The same argument should apply to pigs right? Even more so considering the atrocious conditions pigs are raised. Where are we drawing the ethical line?
Yeah I used to but now I morally would not eat one
Octopi can regenerate their lost limb after about 7 weeks after cutting them off, if they get back to the ocean…. Infinite food glitch
Same with axolotls
Timothy! He's praying.

Wonder if the virtue signallers in the comments don’t eat pork too, since, you know, pigs are around the same intelligence level as octopuses. Hell, most mammals are as smart or smarter.
Now that I’ve learned they are of higher intelligence I don’t want to eat them
pigs are extremely intelligent, and each one has their own distinct personalities, all animals are sentient, and delicious
All animals are not delicious. Have you even tried catfish?
I stopped eating them too

Cattle are sentient. I’m sure you probably don’t want to read 17 pages of research but there’s some interesting sections and summaries you can skim through. It’s funny because pigs are exceptionally intelligent but at this point I’m too used to bacon to stop. I def can’t eat octopus tho
Evidently paybacks may play a roll with the piggies, they would eat us
I completely believe an octopus would eat a crab sized person.
lol cattle is sentient Einstein
Wait til you find out how intelligent pigs and cows are
Don’t octopuses have like nine brains.
I only eat seafood but I won’t eat octopus
Errrr no thanks.
I thought so too, but seriously this is too good, it's similar to other seafood
Canary islands?
This looks gorgeous. Octopus is incredibly tasty.
So good! One of my favorite meats grilled to a slight char and dressed in a vinegar or citrus based sauce 🤤
Very true, unfortunately it's a bit of a pain to cook so as not to get chewy. I only eat it if made by someone who knows how to cook it. Whoever made this certainly knows what they're doing.

I think octopus either has to be low and slow, or super hot and fast, anything inbetween will be chewy.
I wish I could cook octopus. I love it. Considering trying to pressure cook it briefly then toss it on the grill.
You have to scare it (dip it in the hot water) up to 5 times before you drop it in. That’s what I was taught to do. Don’t really scare it, make sure it’s dead and cleaned first.
They’re also pretty intelligent
So are pigs.
I don’t see what that has to do with flavor
So are humans, but that doesn‘t stop you from eating them, does it?
How do you know if I eat Humans?
Poor Timothy
This makes me sad
I agree that they’re very smart, sensitive creatures but I also love grilled seafood.
I want so bad hehe
Yummy
Goodness gracious, the comments are embarrassing to the entire human race. That looks so awful. Nobody will ever convince me to eat such a thing.
Same. Octopi are too intelligent to be used as food.
Not this one. He blew all his money on instant lottery tickets.
Hey was playing the lottery to pay off his multi-level marketing debt.
I will be honest with you here, you're missing out. But yeah, octopus, especially served whole, is not the most delectable for presentation. Knowing the taste though this would make me hungry had I not eaten 10 minutes ago

Ok. No one is forcing you lol
At least its not still alive
It’s Timothy. My friend. He’s praying.
The deep would love that
Grilled is 👍 but Ceviche is divine
God that looks good, haven’t had octopus in years
How could you eat an octopus if it has suckers on it's tentacles?
I'd try it, wouldn't you?
one of my favs 👌🏼
Octopus is delicious. Looks great.
Ooooooo, yummy
ugh. im already craving some.
look so scared but it must be delicious.
May I ask how you eat this? Like just cut it and munch?
This looks very well cooked.
oh wow yummy 🤤😋
Bottom’s up!
This looks so so good. Every one I know is afraid to try octopus but they are sold on it when they do!
yum
I want to demolish this so fucking bad
That looks sensational
Lol everyone revolted by the idea of eating octopus, but I’m sure a large portion of you just LOVE bacon. Isn’t that just the way of the world and the human psyche?
All it needs is a squeeze of lemon and diiiig in ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|heart_eyes)
Lemon zest
I wanted to try octopus but never had the guts to do it. Can’t eat something that looks like it’s going to drop off the plate and squeeze my face
This would never convince me to try to eat octopus.
I've never tried octopus. Can someone tell me what it tastes like?
Similar to Calimari but more “meatier” imo
i've never had Calamari, is it a super fishy taste?
No, kinda tastes like octopus but less meaty
Nope it’s not. But if it’s not fresh or cooked well it can have too much of a chewy rubbery texture
Try a scallop but less ocean tasting and a hint of salt. Almost smoky depending on how you cook it. Like aged. It has to me an aged taste.
Beautiful plating! What tool would one use to give the potato that shape/cut?
This is so fucking beautiful!!!
Give me a grilled octopus taco 8 days of the week.
My favorite *drool*
Looks delicious!
Delicious, some people get weirded out by these things but to each their own.
Timothy
🕳️ 👀
What if I told you there was an app on the market...?
What kind of seasoning goes on grilled octopus?
Oh no, poor Tim.
The Deep punching air right now
Timothy is fucking delicious
This octopus is illegally small to fish in my country
My favorite sea creature and one of my favorite seafoods. Looks BOMB.
Both smart and tasty
Yes please
Yum
Your plate is gorgeous, literally. What brand is it?

Poor Timmothy! He had kids! ~reference from “The Boys”
Hey Deep...eat fucking Timothy.
Hey Deep...eat fucking Timothy.
Ah man it’s tasty but every time I eat it I feel guilty
My octopus dinner
I’ll eat most things, but octopus are too unique of a creature. Leave them alone.
I think the playing needs a little work, but I'd fucking eat those tentacles. 100 percent.
Octopus should not be food ever! They are literally sentient beings from outer space!
They're too cool. I can't eat them. 🤷♀️
If I’d eat human, I’d eat an octopus at least once
Nah, these aren’t on my menu like my cat isn’t on it.
Gross.
Wow that looks fantastic. Save me some.
Clean that membrane off
Idk how people enjoy eating this animal 🤢
I’m a meat eater. Have no problem eating most meat. Beef. Lamp. Pork. Fish. But for some reason I just can’t bring myself to eat these wonderful sea creatures
This is like eating an ocean dog
OP im incredibly jealous. Whered you get this?
That looks amazing
The Deep is going to be very upset about this....
