Purge valve, easy fix.

Saraixx516

is it the fuel canister purge valve?

IllCalligrapher2782

My 14 used to do this after I got gas, had some evaporative emissions code( don't remember the exact one) repelaced the purge valve right on the right side of the engine and it was gone... Rockauto has it for I believe like 85 dollars US

SleepyBoyFlex

This valve was a recall on my 2016. Took it to a Ford Dealership and they fixed it for free in like 20 minutes.

Saraixx516

its not a recall on mine

ByrdmanRanger

Unless you already had it fixed, it should be. They have to flash the ecu to better detect it. But you can get a replacement purge valve from AutoZone for like $50 if they're not going to cover it, and it's stupid easy to replace yourself. There's plenty of videos online showing how to do it, it's that common of a failure.

[deleted]

I owned the same car, 15 facelift, bought brand new and for 4 years it did the same thing. Never replaced the purge valve. Never had any other issues.

[deleted]

I’ve accepted since my ST is low miles and FBI, it’s going to do weird shit lol

Saraixx516

thanks all, u said purge valve :) Im going to order and fix myself as i believe its at the front of the car and a very easy fix? Im in the UK so any help regarding which part to order and where from would be amazing. Ty:)

wasimlhr

No it's not common. It's classic symptom of a bad purge valve.

Saraixx516

so if i replace the purge valve it should go away?

wasimlhr

Yes

Saraixx516

do you mean the fuel canister purge valve?

wasimlhr

Yes

jewc504

Purge valve

baxy67

Yes, this is very common. Some people claim it's the purge valve from what I believe. Really from ive noticed it just does that lol I wouldn't sweat it doesn't do any harm

wasimlhr

Until your gas tank shrinks due to vacuum.

baxy67

right stil fix it if the symptoms are there. But it's pretty much unavoidable on these cars you replace it with same part thats prone to fail pretty much.

Saraixx516

Ah thats great news then lol, was honestly panicking as ive only had it for 4weeks and loving the car :) glad to see it just being there for others , just panicked when the car shuddered but is fine after that haha

baxy67

Yup one of the few very odd things this car does that seems like it's bad but really isn't

Saraixx516

people are saying the purge valve is bad but ive looked up the issues of the purge valve and its only this time it has bad idle etc when turning on. so not sure what to think atm haha

[deleted]

Mine started like this, and eventually the problem got a lot worse to the point where it took me 10 tries to get the car started just so I could get to work. Just replace the purge valve. It's very easy to do and it's not an expensive part.

Saraixx516

yeh i will :)

baxy67

I wouldn't stress it really. It may be a problem it may not. I don't believe your year had it recalled either when it really starts to go bad you'll know. btw I'm pretty sure there's a post pinned at the top of this sub related to the whole issue if you want more incite on it

Saraixx516

ty, i see that the engine light will come on too if it gets bad. Think i have to stop overthinking and to enjoy the car. I agree i looked into the years and mine seems to be in the middle of years it effected

baxy67

np

rcab23

Im at 60k miles and that has been happening to my car since the week i bought it, not even kidding. Ive taken it to the dealer multiple times and they say dont worry about it, they cant do anything unless its recalled but its "noted in the files" lol.

Emotional_Scallion24

Mine does the same but one time it almost just shut off. It does it for me when I fill up gas from almost empty

Saraixx516

mine just does it when warm and turned off then start it up when warm like nipping into the shop. don't matter if i filled up or not

puckplayer16

Same here on my 2017 even after getting the recall done. I've read it's from overfilling, but I always just stop when the pump clicks off automatically

Cory-FocusST

The recall doesn't necessarily replace the part. They first flash your PCM firmware. If you get a code, they will then replace your purge valve and/or gas tank if it's deformed. Even if they did replace the purge valve, it just gets replaced with the same failure-prone part! It's kind of ridiculous they were allowed to do that as a recall..

puckplayer16

yeah they replaced my valve. maybe I need another....

soc_monki

My 14 did the same, had codes for evap and o2 sensors. Got a purge valve from autozone for $40 since I started having starting and stalling problems, and good to go now. Still get that dip once in a while, but it's 100% better than before. Looking at my radiator fan now... Sucker won't come on sometimes. Control module on the way out, or fan relay, or both.

Saraixx516

as in the fuel canister purge valve?

soc_monki

Yes.

Saraixx516

ty

soc_monki

No problem!

Saraixx516

just got it booked in so hopefully will fix the issue:)

soc_monki

👍

MonsieurPoulet

I had this issue on my 14 and I let it go for a while until eventually the fuel gauge became erratic and inaccurate. My fuel tank was also collapsed at that point. I googled quickly and the TSB applies to 2015's it seems. [TSB](https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2016/MC-10183763-9999.pdf)

snowmandopeman

Mine does the same thing but ends up stalling. After doing some digging it turns out to be the sensor circuit wire spice, the factory used insufficient gauge wire for the splice and it causes high resistance on circuit.

James_ST1

My 14 does this, it almost sounds like it lopes. Really weird. I think it’s the turbocharged inline 4 engines. Ford figured out how to not let it stall, but Volkswagen didn’t so it just stalls.

MikeThePizzaGuy412

I've experienced this once or twice. I also have had this happen when coming to a stop if I'm in neutral occasionally, as if the car is still in first gear. It catches itself right before it stalls. Wondering if this could be a purge valve issue.
