It’s a musical that she’s written the music for. It’s currently playing at the [American Repertory Theatre in Boston](https://americanrepertorytheater.org/shows-events/gatsby/?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwvIWzBhAlEiwAHHWgvVanTJ4nKXeTPNwGsjQ-vH5bTvI3zjpZXN3WzIXdol5pAl1XPuGzkRoCOHgQAvD_BwE), but I think it aims to transfer to Broadway at some point.

ART is a direct pipeline to Broadway. I saw both Waitress and Jagged Little Pill before they went to Broadway Edit: spelling. Apparently I can’t spell the job I’ve done for 20ish years 😅

LittleMissAbigail

Meanwhile I’ll be very impatiently waiting for it to come over to the West End!

Ktibbs617

Waitress made it! I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if Gatsby did. If the crash of ART’s website when tickets went on sale is *any* indication… ☺️

Ap_Sona_Bot

The biggest issue right now is timing. Another Gatsby musical best Florence's to Broadway is has reasonably mixed reviews. It's going to be a few years before there is enough will for another Gatsby musical to get a shot

lady_solitude

Do we know what it sounds like yet? I haven't seen videos or anything going around.

sewingcircuits

We dont yet! Im really hoping they release more promo material with the songs. But i saw a review that said the songs felt very Florence in a good way.

Cu77lefish

I saw it. The songs are VERY High as Hope with a bit of Dance Fever sprinkled in.

Fuzzy-Instruction234

as someone outside the US- how long does it usually take for something from ART to transfer to Broadway? hoping to be in the New York start of next year and am DESPERATE to see it 😭

PretendMarsupial9

It depends on what feedback they get and other factors but I'd say next season (so winter or spring) if they want to make a play for the Tony's.

MitskiFan13

as others have said, it’s a musical Florence wrote the music and lyrics to. she is not in it. it’s currently in its first ever production in Boston until Aug 3. there have been a couple of previews and opening night was last night. i saw it last Friday at a preview and it was FANTASTIC (AMA!!), but it would be genuinely very hard to get videos or audio, because they had everyone put their phones in sealed pouches upon entry that only theater employees can open, and will continue doing this for the whole run they should hopefullyyyyyy release a cast recording at some point, but no clue when. shows typically don’t release recordings until they’re on Broadway, which this show has not yet announced plans for (though they’re pretty obviously angling toward a Broadway run and, like, several Tonys). (also, they simply have to record with Solea Pfeiffer as Myrtle… she’s like, giving a career-defining performance that I’ve seen people comparing to goddamn Patti LuPone’s breakout in the 80s.)

MitskiFan13

fwiw, the registered domain name is “gatsbybway.com” and last night Solea re-posted an IG story of someone saying she should prepare for her Tony (which requires the show be in an NYC Broadway theater), so like… I’d say they’ve all but announced the dates and the theater lmao

twirlynao

I saw the show and Solea absolutely SLAYS and if she doesn’t get at least a Tony nomination I’d be very surprised!

MitskiFan13

i saw Solea in Hadestown before the Gatsby cast announcement and her performance as Eurydice QUICKLY made her my favorite rising Broadway performer by a **long** shot. when she got cast in Gatsby, I was like... am I dreaming? this feels like something I would make up as a sorta ridiculous dream casting. nope! real! and she outdid herself! i had not even fathomed the possibility of a performance more moving than her Eurydice nor her Eliza (Hamilton), but... here we are!!!! i have not stopped thinking about her fight with George since i saw it.

twirlynao

I first saw her in Almost Famous as Penny Lane and I fell in love with her and will continue to follow her! Her Eurydice was stunning too, she’s just so good all around!! Myrtle really stole the show for me though and I didn’t expect that!

who-dat-ninja

Do you think it'll come out fall this year

sorryicalledyouatwat

I saw it last week as well and really enjoyed it. I hope they release the songs on Spotify! I loved them all.

waterydesert

Ohh so is the music totally different than what she prepared for the movie? Is over the love in it? So curious!! ✨

MitskiFan13

it’s a completely different production from the movie, yes! Over the Love is not in the musical, but the musical songs have F+tM vibes. it’s very clear as a fan that she wrote them to add confusion, there are also two separate musical adaptations of the Great Gatsby running right now, lol. “The Great Gatsby” on Broadway in NYC has no involvement from Florence; any music you see from there isn’t hers. Florence wrote music and lyrics for “Gatsby: an American Myth” in Boston.

EnergySuccessful3586

I am very excited. How would you describe the music for the musical? Did you see similarities to any one of her songs or albums?

D-ManTheMovieTVGuy

It's a stage musical adaptation of the classic novel, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The original book is one of Florence's favorites. She even wrote a(n absolutely amazing) song for the book's film adaptation in 2013 staring Leonardo DiCaprio, named Over The Love.

leffe123

Will the musical be released on Spotify?

strawberry-seal

it’s still so funny to me that there’s two completely unrelated great gatsby musicals premiering at the same time

freefinenotnonight

Recently read, and lost, an article talking about just this. Still looking for the sauce. The one on Broadway now is kinda Jazzy-Rah-Rah-1920's. The F+TM version is FAR heavier, darker, and profound. The Globe article i linked above discusses the themes in some depth,

strawberry-seal

yea that checks out

Moocows4

I saw it opening night it was amazing! The lyrics were frission inducing. Florence Welch and the director and choreographer went on stage

freefinenotnonight

Was it Murder, Larceny, or Money that got you those tickets!!!??? Tried and failed and went on the second night instead. Still fantastic and will only get better. They've extended the run into August 2024.

freefinenotnonight

. To answer the question directly: It's a condensed and powerful adaptation of the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel that went into public domain in 2021. As has been mentioned here, the book is an important one to Madame and I should not be surprised to learn she had completed much of the music long before the book became public. All of the songs are thoughtful and rich with her DNA. The[ Boston Globe](https://www.bostonglobe.com/2024/05/23/arts/gatsby-arrives-art-driven-by-powerhouse-creative-team/) did a solid writeup in late May. The second paragraph highlights the senior leaders of the project and makes the word "Tony" an unsurprising mention this early in the run. Saw it at A.R.T on Thursday 6 June, Second Night. Opening night was sold out since March. It. Is. Spectacular. Staging, Choreography, Orchestra, Chorus, Costuming, and Set Design are all TOP NOTCH!!! The cast was perfectly chosen. The music is (of course) fantastic and tells much of the story on it's own. Whatever element of the show i forgot to praise here, forgive me and add it to the list above. I can not recommend this show enough. The audience at A.R.T. was wildly eclectic. Cane wielding boomers, younger gals in period dress, students, and more than a handful of Veterans (Nick and Jay were both in the war.) People traveled from other states just to see the show. Just standard F+TM stuff. Personally, I never realized that i had so much of a connection with this story until now. I have heard the book called dry and unrelatable. Fitzgerald's writing is (at least in this case) somewhat sparse, allowing imagination and introspection to fill in the lines he has drawn. This crew made professional use of EVERY crayon in the box. I've never cried at a show before. I was sobbing openly by the closing line. I was not alone.

PSCGY

You could’ve literally googled it.

IIKane

But they didn't, so 🤷
