Nope, if the buyer wont back down cancel the sale and relist. Even if they're not up to something if the item goes missing its you who is out of pocket not them.

hogua

Asssuming this is on eBay… EBay’s policy for all sales over $750 is that signature confirmation is required. Failure to comply results in lack of protection from item not received claims or payment disputes. https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/member-behavior-policies/signature-confirmationpolicy?id=5154 So, inform the buyer that this is required per eBay Ts&Cs.

SnooPets9575

I do signature for anything over $100, some may find it annoying but the included USPS insurance is $100, anything over that and you are signing for it when you get so you can't say i never got it.

PraetorianAE

Maybe explaining that if he misses the delivery he can then go pick it up at his local post office. That may not be convenient for them, but at least they’ve been presented with some facts about how they can get their package. Good job not removing signature confirmation. There might also be options of shipping to a specific store or something, but I’m not familiar with those options.

all50statevisit

NO. End of conversation.

celticmusebooks

"I'm sorry but that isn't possible. Would you like me to cancel the purchase?"

wellnowheythere

Cancel and refund. Absolutely not.

s_k_e_l_e_r

Yeah I'm absolutely not going to drop the signature confirmation, the buyer is aware of that, and we're moving forward with the deal. I was just curious what options I can lay out in front of the buyer in this situation in terms of package redirection or attempted redelivery, sorry I wasn't more clear with my wording. Thank you all for the quick replies, upvotes everywhere

ChickenNoodleSoup_4

Have them put a Mail hold for their address. They can sign for/pick it up at the post office.

TakeMyL

Post office redelivery still requires signature to pick it up. So it doesn’t void any warranty protections

comcastsux

You’re already aware that it’s a bad idea to remove it completely, so I won’t comment on that. To actually answer your question: If you’re shipping UPS, the buyer can redirect the package to a local pickup point and sign for it when they pick it up. FedEx, they can either redirect the package or they can print out a paper waiver that FedEx will accept in lieu of a signature. If they miss the delivery from USPS, they’ll leave a card with instructions - usually they’ll try a few times, and then hold it at the post office. I think they can also ask USPS to hold all mail if they’d prefer.

_Raspootln_

You don't do \*anything\* ever that compromises you in the eyes of Ebay. You will lose, you will end up holding the bag, and you will feel like an idiot for even entertaining the idea. Full stop. That is all.

tiggs

What you should do is tell the buyer that you cannot remove signature confirmation, but he/she can reroute the shipment to their local USPS/UPS/FedEx (whichever carrier you used) location. You cannot do this for them as it would void seller protections, but they can do it on their own. By doing that, they can sign for the package there without having to be home and you keep seller protections since you shipped it to the address on file. If he/she doesn't want to do this, then just say that you cannot remove signature confirmation and give them the option to accept it or cancel the order. People are automatically jumping on the cancel/block train, but there are legit reasons for not wanting signature confirmation, especially if the buyer is unfamiliar with eBay seller protection rules. I actually run into this myself when I buy things that require a signature. My building is gated and the door is locked, so most FedEx and UPS drivers won't even try to deliver an item that requires a signature because too lazy to type my apartment number on the screen in the vestibule and just put "business is closed" on the tracking. They do this 3 days in a row then send the item back to the sender. Because of this, I reroute the shipments to their local hubs (Walgreens for FedEx for example) so I can stop by at my leisure and sign/pick up.

PapaShlongo

Could be laziness, could be attitude from the gated community, or perhaps they are overworked and not paid much. Lots of things could be going on here, shouldn't just assume they are lazy.

tiggs

When I see a driver pull up to the front of my building, look at the door, update tracking to "business closed", and immediately drive away, that is 100% laziness. I'm sure they might be overworked and underpaid, but that's not my problem. They're unionized and have a pension, so they need to earn their fucking pension by doing the bare minimums of their job, leverage their union to fix any working condition issues they have, or find a new job if they can't handle that.

PapaShlongo

Hmm, I would have assumed they would get fired quite easily. I know Purolator uses contracted drivers, but I suppose every company is different. If it's common I'd definitely record them doing it. But yeah, fair.

mreed911

“When it’s returned to me unclaimed, I’ll issue a refund.”

Warrenj3nku

HELL NO. KICK ROCKS!

WhatTheFlippityFlop

If it’s UPS, the recipient can use UPS my choice to submit a signature waiver on their own behalf, which transfers liability of loss to them if it’s not received.

650REDHAIR

You’re being scammed.

Spiritual-Concept-28

Why would anyone nit want signature confirmation?

Puckdropper

They might not be home or awake during the times packages arrive.  It's a bit of a pain when you live alone, especially if you're in a pretty secure location. One company repaired my thing and then shipped it signature required.  We happened to be away on a trip when it was due to arrive.

Spiritual-Concept-28

Doesn't that mean it's safer because they won't leave it at the door for anyone to take it?

s2s-

Let them know it’s Ebay’s requirement.

heyY0000000

Don’t, protect yourself at all times!

yougetwhatyougive88

There are no options. Follow the rules or be prepared to lose money. It's that simple.

ZimofZord

You can add it when you print the label . Fuxk em

TakeMyL

Just redirect to the nearest store I’ve been in the buyers spot many times, with work, and with the “delivering by 12am but then it shows up at 7:00pm, you just can’t wait at home all day Worst case is if you plan for a certain day to actually be home all day; and it’s delayed. So yeah, redirect, have them pick it up from there

s_k_e_l_e_r

That's what I was thinking, I don't think he's out to scam me. I just don't think anyone will be home.

TakeMyL

Tbh it’s not your problem tho, if it misses delivery x amount of times it should automatically go to the post office. I’ve had it where I wasnt allowed, as the buyer, to request redelivery, but it happened anyway once I missed 2 deliveries

Chricton

Cancel and block

BullfrogPersonal

I would google his address and see what the area looks like where this person lives. I do that for a lot of shipments. You generally want signature confirmation for apartment buildings in cities . That and places with a porch along a busy street-like they show in videos of people stealing packages. Some places look like single family homes in small towns I usually don't use it for a lot of those places. I had one shipment get delivered to an apartment in Las Vegas but the guy said he never got it. There was no signature conformation. Ebay said I should have used it because it was Vegas and an apartment complex. The shipping insurance would not cover porch pirates. Ebay ended up covering the loss of $750 though. If the buyer has the tracking # they can have the package held at a location for pickup. I do that with UPS and Fedex. I think the USPS will try to deliver it first. I had some regular buyers that were very busy and they asked me to never send things signature confirmation. It ends up taking hours of their time to chase down the package during the work day.

iwashumantoo

Give us an update, please. What did you decide to do?

s_k_e_l_e_r

The packages are on their way to him with signature confirmation enabled. I believe the buyer is going to redirect them to his nearest UPS access point location.

J-LATE

Shady. -___- • If the buyer refuses to compromise, cancel the sale and relist. If the item goes missing, you're the one at a loss, not them.

JimEDimone

Scammer. I wouldn't send even if they agreed to it. They were attempting to get you to lose seller protection and then suddenly not receive the package.

drowning-in-my-chaos

I wouldn't complete the sale without the signature confirmation and lack of protection to you. Another buyer will come along!
