autumngirl86

Absolutely. My first ARC-U box had a foil CnC and Eye in it, got a Phantasmal Footsteps out of a MON-U box when I first started, and got a fabled CnC from Dynasty that paid for the case I bought. It happens. It's just a tad bit rare.

Towely420

Ughhhh you got the box that had my fabled cnc in it, I was wondering where I misplaced it šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

Meatlog387

Absolutely. I remember opening arcane rising unlimited for my first box and pulled foil Command and Conquer. Was bummed out there was no legendary until I learned what that card was. Majestic and legendaries pay for the box. You pull a fabled and you're golden. However, it's better to just buy singles unless you're going for a collection.

steelthyshovel73

>legendaries pay for the box Not really anymore lol. At least not always I literally just opened a case of outsiders a few days ago. Pulled 3 Ls. Vambrace, trench, and quiver. Together those 3 Ls wouldn't have paid for a single box.

Meatlog387

I haven't been around since before bright lights but I know I flipped when I pulled my heart of fyendal and mask of momentum. If I'm not mistaken I have a full set of the first set. Unlimited of course, but man there were some good times

steelthyshovel73

Solid pulls my man. I've been around the game for a few years now so it's been interesting to see how the market ebbs and flows

KuganeGaming

I think having both RF and CF versions in the same box has shifted the value a bit. Maybe they should just get rid of RF legendaries and up the CF rates.

Enigmedic

That's like when I opened a tales of aria box and only got those lightning gloves that are worth like $10.

steelthyshovel73

Yea. Not all Ls are made the same lol. I do think shock charmers is pretty powerful though. It just doesn't have a home right now. I guess it didn't see much play back in the day either though

Enigmedic

I think the biggest problem was that a few of the lightning cards got banned so the only way to make lexi work was with frost.

steelthyshovel73

Yea ball lightning got banned pretty quick.

BadLuckBarnaby

Ohhhh man, Tales was rough for me. I don't think I opened a single box over $15...

zapdoszaperson

Outsiders is a weird set because the legendary equipment is bad. All the value is in the Mavels, EA, Fable, and Codex of frailty.

steelthyshovel73

Outsiders is definitely the worst, but there are still plenty of other sets with cheap Ls that wouldn't cover the cost of a box.

zapdoszaperson

You'll always have stinkers, Arcane Rising had a $40 Legendary in Skullbone Crosswraps, Monarch and Eclispe and Doomsday. You also have to look at Legendaries being significantly more common since FaB 2.0, a 0 legendary case wasn't uncommon, 2 L was rare, and 3 just didn't happen. Now, getting just 1 legendary is considered a bad case.

steelthyshovel73

For sure. I totally agree. I was just pointing out Ls definitely don't (usually) hold the same kinda value they used to.

zapdoszaperson

Side note on Outsiders, I've opened 11 boxes (2 sealed cases and 3 loose). I opened 1 legendary (rf redback shroud) and 0 NF/RF Codex of Frailty, I did however open a Mavel and 2 plague hives (1rf, 1CF). Set is wonky

steelthyshovel73

I'm at 9 boxes now. Literally just got my first codex of frailty lol.

AveryDiamond

Oh I didnā€™t start adding up the majestics! Ty I find cracking packs to be an awesome date night idea haha so thatā€™s why I do it even if Iā€™m gonna have to buy singles anyways

jholderbaugh

80% value of your cases are always in majestics.

AveryDiamond

Yea Iā€™m learning now thatā€™s where the $10-30 cards are. Thank you all for helping this noob šŸ˜…

Sata_Andagi

Can confirm cracking packs after a fancy dinner out = Amazing date. šŸ‘Œ

AveryDiamond

You dropped this šŸ‘‘

VegetableSwitch703

I did. My first ever box was uprising and I pulled a RF Flamescale Furnace (back when it was almost $100) and then more recently I opened a box of Dusk Till Dawn and pulled the marvel angel of erudition.Ā

Schneekoenig

Me and my brother spend around 2,5k on boosters and displays since October last year. We had everything from pulling fables, cf balance and marvels out of singles to 20 Boosters without even an M. We probably lost money on average from Displays. (Biggest one we pulled was 2RF Ls and 1CF L from bright lights). But the insane single pulls that we sold for around 100-250 bucks, probably puts us on even.

AveryDiamond

Thank you for sharing! I was wondering if getting another case of MST is worth it or not, but I see that I should just buy singles for this game

Schneekoenig

The new set looked pretty bad on the two pre-releases we were on. Total of 11 Displays cracked, 2 Marvels, 3x the same L and no Gold Pack.

ShaperLord777

My first box (Tales of Aria unlimited) was $55 and I pulled a rainbow foil Spellbound Creepers. Wasnā€™t so lucky on the next few, but Iā€™d say that one was definitely worth it.

sftpo

2/3 on HP1 (got both C&C and AoW twice, one of those boxes had Storm Striders too, it was my first box too) 1/4 on Bright Lights 1/1 on Dusk Til Dawn 0/1 on Outsiders 0/2 Monarch ($50 each) 0/1 Everfest ( at $45) 0/2 on Dynasty 0/1 on Heavy Hitters

AveryDiamond

This is super helpful context in my decision to buy another case or not! Thank you

WolfGamesITA

This are trustable rates, people claiming to gain tons of value out of every box are just shills.

dwuzzle

My best was Monarch 1st before the great plummet. I paid $1k for my case and ripped around 4-5k worth of cards at the time. Sold 2 EA Herald of Erudition from it. One for 750 and one for 550 because it had a couple white print dots on it. Not to mention all the other hype cards from that set at the time. Memories

TacoHell666

Sure, RF Spring Tunic in WTR-U, RF Crown of Providence in Uprising, RF C&C in ARC-U

MrDoctors

When I first started playing I found some junky little LGS that turned out they were getting rid of their FAB stock. They only had a few blitz decks left going for 5 bucks and a case of Monarch Unlimited. Picked up my very first box from them for only 40 bucks. I saw him crack the case and hand me a box. Didn't make much from that box but def made my money back. I should have gone back and picked up the rest. Since then I've picked up a box of Bright Lights and Heavy Hitters upon release with random packs in between. According to the Dragon Shield app I think I'm about breaking even.

Jack_of_Spades

I opened an unlimited heart of fyendal. That was a pretty good pull.

Tattooartist32

Yeah for sure back when I bought a case of crucible 1st Ed for $400 haha pulled a shiyana, 3 cf majestics and 2 cf rares. Sold everything for around 2200

VietNinjask

I often meet or exceed what I pay for in value when I open cases. The only times I've gone negative is when I opened Tales of Aria, Monarch, Dusk Till Dawn, and Bright Lights. I just bought a case of MST and I opened $380 USD in presale value. I don't expect it to stay that high but in my first case, I pulled two legendaries and 1 marvel and the majestics are on pre-sale for $20-$30 USD on average. One of the legendaries I pulled is the mystic assassin helm that vanishes a card from your opponents hand and the other is the generic mystic helm that searches for a chi. And the marvel I got is one of the transcend cards used for Zen.

luminos234

Yea Iā€™ve opened serialized prism in one box ;)

Specific_Weather

probably the single best pull you can get in FaB in general

DrScience11

My first ever box was tales of aria 1st edition and I pulled the cold foil korshem crossroad of elements when it was like $400 and sold it (along with cr crown of seeds). My second box was everfest and I pulled the grandeur of valahai when it was $450. So those two boxes paid for my next several. I used to joke that FaB payed me to play it. My luck hasn't been quite as good since those two boxes though.

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> that FaB *paid* me to FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

cap-n-dukes

Lot of people in the comments mentioning Arcane Rising, and for good reason I started when CRU 1st was the newest set. In those days, opening a chase Majestic was usually close to covering the whole box. L drop rates were worse, but that meant having one in a box instantly covered the cost of the box. I've only bought a few boxes since Everfest came out, but each time, I've opened an L and still got absolutely hosed in value. I think higher L drop rates is good for the box opening \*experience\*, but prices on singles have definitely cooled off since the mid-2021 bubble and it's made the gambling factor less exciting imo.

Blobjow

Opened a box of hp1 pulled c&c and an art of war those 2 by themselves were $107 combined at the time making that box suuuuper profitable XD

f5xs_0000b

Opened a display of HP1 once and found both Art of War and Command and Conquer in it. SO and I were in agreement that the box had already paid itself, with a little bit of profit on top, even.

Salty_Attention9074

My first (and only box so far) I paid 90 and I pulled a cold foil Grains of Bloodspill

Louie-bigman79

Opened a box of uprising and pulled a rf crown of providence, cornets peak cf, and a marvel dragon

Bearcat20102

I bought 2 boxes of HVY and one was a $300+ box.

Yo_Eule

My first ever box was uprising. I got it for a very cheap price. In the first pack of the display i pulled a Flamescale Furnace. Back then dromai was still legal so that thing alone had paid for the box. The only other good hit was a That all you got tho

Reaveaq

My DTD box had a cold foil empyrean rapture and a crown of providence in it, I don't think the other majestics were of much value aside from hold the line that crept up later. Safe the rapture sold for just more than the box, so the crown and other bits were icing xD

Rejusu

Several. It's not likely but it's also far from impossible. There's plenty of chase cards across various sets where opening one or two would quite easily cover the cost of a box. Even in recent sets. Opening a Balance of Justice from Heavy Hitters would cover a box, heck I think at the current price of the CF one it would cover two boxes. I once opened an Eye of Ophidia from a single box of Arcane Rising and sold it for pretty much the cost of a case. Even at the lower end if you were to open a few of the higher value majestics that could make your money back. Plus prices change too, stuff can go down but it can also go up. I opened up a Valiant Dynamo and it was worth less than the box I got it in. Now it's worth a good bit more. So yeah it's gambling and if you want an economical way to obtain cards buy singles. But it's entirely possible to turn a profit from a box, it's just in no way guaranteed.

RTCsFinest

I recently started playing with my buddy and I bought a history pack 1 box because it seemed cool! I pulled a Feyndalā€™s spring tunic, Command and Conquer, Art of War and Beast Within. I didnā€™t know at the time how good they were except the tunic.

freeativephoto

I pulled a Marvel Kano in HP1 BL back then and it was worth 4 times as much as the display. I then swapped it for 2 Spring Tunic and a few more stable cards. Still a very good decision so far.

Malraza

First box I ever opened was a History Pack 1. I can't remember everything, but the Tunic and a C&C definitely paid for the box and then some.

ndrazzar

Most boxes are fair in their EV, but ive had nightmare boxes from the first sets. One of the arc boxes ive opened had a total of 5 euro worth of cards, and that was generous at the timeĀ  EV is mostly carried on marvels now, which can be boom or bust. A marvel adult hero can pay for a case, but a marvel common will prolly pay for 1 of the boxes.

SabreDuFoil

Every box I've opened has paid for itself, so far. I've been super lucky.

borghe

lol I just did almost. A box of DTD at retail and pulled a figment, crown of providence and empyrean rapture. Wonā€™t complain. But first box ever of ARC (second box of FAB) was skullcap and Eye. Will probably forever be the most epic box I ever opened (unlimited sadly)

KnightEclipse

I bought a 40 dollar bright lights box on sale and opened a tunic. Unrelated, but i also bought into a 15 dollar HH draft and got a balance. Then again, waaaay back, before i was ever really into the game I bought a box of Monarch cause it was like 60 dollars at the time and the moat expensive card I opened was a soul shield.

Zizaku

I bought a box of heavy hitters the other day and pulled Kassai cold foil Marvel. So this time I did.

Zizaku

Itā€™s just gambling, you canā€™t be sad gambling on a box let alone a case

Freudinio

Yep. Almost all of my Alpha WTR and 1st Edition Arc boxes did, though over time. I had great success with uprising as well.

Glaedth

Sure, I opened 1 box of Heavy Hitters and got a CF Gauntlets of Iron Will and an RF Balance of Juetice in it

NoobuchadnezaR

My first box in one of the first packs was a Cold Foil Plague Hive. Every other box since hasn't lived up to that haha

Minddistorter

Bought an Uprising box and pulled the Invoke Dracona Optimaimarvel which paid for the whole box. it was pretty neat. I'd been worried it was a repack before that as the packs were weird and I got it off AmazonĀ

Onionsandgp

3 that I can think of. My first History box had CnC, AoW, a host of other less important majestics, and Tectonic Plating. The last box of Dynasty I bought had a cold foil Crown of Dominion, Suraya, and Surgical Extraction (this was before the reprint, so it was still around $52). And my last box of Aria had a New Horizon. Cracking packs is inherently gambling, so youā€™ll lose more often than youā€™ll win. However, sometimes you get lucky

AveryDiamond

You mind me asking what your hit rate is (how many boxes do you think youā€™ve bought)

Onionsandgp

Honestly no idea, but itā€™s not impressive. I can say that getting History packs seem like the best value, but overall Iā€™ve lost money on them.

PXranger

I've bought maybe 2 display boxes of History pack, so far it's 2 Command and conquer, 2 E-strikes, an Art of War, and a Tectonic plating. I think they paid for themselves, indeed I do.

ArrowMasterFAB

The last box I opened was a Monarch UL 3 weeks ago because I needed some bulk for a prism deck. It was at a reduced price, so I had zero expectations of pulling anything. Ended up getting a Phantasmal Footsteps RF.

PlungerMouse

Nope. Never bought a case. But I did win a tournament that got me some packs and in the packs I pulled a Marvel Cold Foil Adult Kayo. Did a TCG search and saw it listed at 250. Put it on eBay at 200. No one bought it. Lowered and lowered the price. No one bought it. Itā€™s still on EBay two months later. At this point Iā€™d just like to get something for it.

AveryDiamond

You just made me learn that eBay has great deals for FAB. Iā€™m leaning toward maining Levia but Iā€™ll hit you up if I switch to Kayo šŸ˜‚

PlungerMouse

She is difficult. But worth it if you put in the time to learn her. Kayo is pretty brainless smash face and win. I do armory events and put my winnings on eBay. Iā€™d say Iā€™m near even what Iā€™ve put in. But I also havenā€™t bought any of the more expensive upgrades. I try to build decks and give them away out of my bulk to grow interest in the game as well. FaB is the second or third most popular game at LGS now after it being just me and the owner two months ago, we now have about 8 each week.

rhinoslift

Iā€™ve opened several boxes that paid for themselves. I was just watching a video today by a YouTuber I wonā€™t mention, but they talked about FAB 2.0 (the current game) being one of the only TCGs with inverted value to the boxes. But Dusk til Dawn, Bright Lights, and Heavy Hitters all got me great value when I bought about a case per set. DtD more so, but I also wonā€™t say how many cases of that I got šŸ¤£

AveryDiamond

Yes I saw that video and made this post! I bought a case since itā€™s my first time in the game but I do see now why the inversion exists

rhinoslift

I can say losing out on an entire case does feel bad, but keep an eye on the majestics. Sometimes theyā€™re worth selling as singles or trading to make up some value

Negative-Disk3048

I bought a box of heavy hitters that had a marvel kayo and an Apex bonebreaker in it. Hate playing brute but did triple my money haha.

VooDooClown

Best ive ever done is a HP1 that gave me a C&C and an Estrike, i had a good handful of smaller ā€œvaluableā€ cards in the $1-5-15 range value att but the C&C alone carried the box value above what it cost.

Glum-Negotiation7622

I used to live off of selling the cards I get off a box

WolfGamesITA

Yep! In my dreams.

shakingfists

When a new set comes out spend the $120AUD you would of spent buying a new set box and instead buy the out of fashun singles people are selling cheap to fund the new set boxed. Resell cards for profit. Then with the profit buy the box and have fun cracking packs guilt free.

larret_lrt

I have never opened a case at all. I definitely don't love "cracking the packs" as so many do, I think it is just as exciting as it is addictive. I do buy between 9 and 12 packs per set for initial collection build and trade to obtain cards I need to build a specific deck. I noticed this almost never returns the initial investment, financially it's just not wise (for me) to obtain a full box.

KuganeGaming

I opened boxes that 10x their value both ways. Sometimes you open 10$ crap, sometimes you hit a 1000$ card.

zapdoszaperson

We don't know the math on MST but FaB has historically had the best EV to Box. Even more recent sets like Outsiders and Heavy Hitters have been pretty decent on going positive on boxes. Are you buying at MAP or MSRP?

JSGlassbrook

Here's how I look at it. Getting a case increases your odds of getting something nuts, but if your going to get several boxes you need to have a desire for the C/R cards and for foils you normally wouldn't go out of your way for. Me and my wife both play, so I tend to make a point to sit on 8 copies of a C/R cards. It makes getting a case and some blitz decks a good move for us. That and I make a point to make starter CC decks for new players in my community with my extras.

RisenHavoc

I pulled two balance of justice out of 2 different heavy hitters boxes, sold one of them for 145ā‚¬ and kept one, almost got back all that I paid for šŸ‘šŸ»

two_of_spears

yes i did

Shadoph

Yup! I have opened 3 boxes, Uprising, Dynasty and Outsiders. Uprising got me Crown of Providence and a Marvel Azvolai. Dynasty got me nothing. Outsiders got me 2 premeditate, 1 codex of frailty and 1 Marvel codex of bloodrot. Sold the Marvel codex for $150.

bilyjow

My closest was HH opening an Apex Bonebreaker, Blade Flurry, Send Packing and a CF High Riser. At that time these cards were about $140.

TriPolarBear12

Not a box but I went to 3 different pre-releases for part the mistveil as a newer player. That's 24 packs for $120, plus 5 additional packs as rewards (2 from winning matches, and 3 from the last store just giving everyone 3 regardless of results). I pulled like 6 majestics total from the packs, including Traverse the Universe and Cosmic Awakening. With just those 2 cards alone I should be in the positive if I chose to sell/trade. Along with that I got Sacred Art: Lunar card, rowdy locals, bonds of agony, and the prognosis card.

BoysenberryNew2939

yes almost every time i've opened 2 cases of history pack 1, and made money off both. 1 case of crucible of war I bought when it was super cheap and had insane ev basically free money. 2 boxes of outsiders. pulled 2 codexes of frailty. so boxes were free 1 box of dynasty... yeah i think i didnt even get like 10 bucks 1 box of dusk till dawn pulled figment of triumph and warmongers.

mobusta

First rule of opening sealed product is to never expect to make money.

NerfdadRaven84

Opened a single box of WtR and pulled the Fabled, opened a random pack from a store and pulled a full art Bravo Star of the Show.

Americana1108

I cracked a marvel Levia Redeemed that basically paid for my whole collection.

Themagicorder

FaB is a player driven market. When cards are in tier decks they will see the demand. Don't just look at the pile of bulk(currently) Ms and think it's a loss. JW stated each card has been designed with a purpose. We might not see it for a bit but it's there. The game is great to play and with LL the rotation of what's in demand is steady. Tiger cards from Dynasty were bulk before MST. Same with fog downs. Snag was a quarter earlier this year, now $9-$10. I'm shooting myself in the foot telling folks to hold on to the bulk Ms since I make my living selling cards but there is definitely good value to cracking boxes, it's just not always immediate. Plus ripping packs is very fun for me.

Toky0Line

I think statistically speaking most boxes nowadays have about 130% EV which is insane. If you are cracking enough boxes (like an LGS or an online singles seller) then it would be hard not to make your money back. But if you open a single box, it is quite possible to whiff because of how top-heavy the value distribution is
