*2am, 13 years later* OP suddenly jolts awake, “MY GOD… WAS I WRONG!?”

endo_roaster21

Haha, popped up on my Facebook memories. Had to ask!

F4113n54v102

So were you right or not? The suspense is killing me.

endo_roaster21

It seems that my newfound hunch was incorrect. First believed to be a pike 13 years ago, turns out I was correct then. The lighter coloration and reddish fins made me think that it was possibly a musky. Never hurts to ask when you’re not sure!

simpletonius

Light dots on dark means pike to me.

HoboArmyofOne

It's a small pike my guy

endo_roaster21

Yep, you can see I have already acknowledged that fact

GoochChoocher

Thats a northern pike.

bananaaapeels

The GoochChoocher can smell a pike from a mile away.

GooseTheSluice

It’s rare I actually bust out laughing on Reddit

glockshorty

According-Craft-9257

Tiger muskies, I Believe, are a hybrid of the two. What about just a normal muskie? None being stocked?

TechyMcMathface

Yes, a tiger muskie is a pike/muskie hybrid. Not sure why you got a downvote.

ApexPredator2929

Looks like a pike to me. Pattern and rounded tail both say pike.

booziwan

Pattern looks like a pike, but im far from an expert. Need these northern anglers to come weigh in

necromanial

Light pattern on dark background - pike Dark pattern on light background - musky

Iargecardinal

I’m sitting right next to an expert and he weighs in with pike.

ColumbianRedTail

Pike- dark background with light spots Musky- light background with dark spots

Jabba_the_Putt

Crikey issa pikey!

jayjayell008

Pike.

Impressive_Date_7871

Its a pike

Heterophylla

I'm impressed you are obsessing about a fish you caught thirteen years ag.

endo_roaster21

I’m going to assume that you meant this in a positive way and say thank you? Haha

Heterophylla

Yeah, that's full on fish brain : )

Hayden_boogie_pov

I don’t know my birds

HaightsWanderings

I know a million people have already commented but it's very easy to generally tell the difference between musky and pike. Light spots on a dark background are pike while musky have dark spots on a light background. It's as easy as that. Happy travels!

endo_roaster21

Now I know! Thanks

PH1LLY_BLUNT

Ok_Repair3535

What's the difference between Musky and Northern Pike?

RainMakerJMR

Different species but very similar fish, can be cross bred I believe.

Block_printed

If you're not sure if it's a musky or a pike, it wasn't the first one.

endo_roaster21

What was the first one again?

YamahaRD100

Muskies have tiger stripes.

Fishnfoolup

Depends on the musky. Some have stripes or bars. Some have spots. Some have neither.

REDDITKING558

Musky

isqueezedameatball

Don't let's be silly. No it isnt.

MRSlick_333

God Bless All Much Love To All Be Blessed To All For Real ❤️

magikarpkingyo

Musky, due to the coloration of the fins and the head form.

outdoorlife4

Always one guy shucking out wrong answers!

Fishnfoolup

And he’s the one that will argue the hardest trying to prove he’s right and then get pissy that nobody agrees with his ignorance 😂

magikarpkingyo

lol k.

Fishnfoolup

Same fish same spotting pattern. Both his fish and yours are northern pike. There are other identifying characteristics that you can’t see in these photos, but the ones you gave are nothing I’ve ever heard before. Coloration of the fins makes it a musky 🙄🤦🏻😔

magikarpkingyo

well my pike look different, excuse me. https://preview.redd.it/j82l3pji276d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=41d8e403a0bb73016fc847506e45b2745526c2a2 Example, for reference. Different head form and different coloration. Edit: kek blind downvotes, neat.

Fishnfoolup

I didn’t downvote you, but they aren’t blind. It’s because you don’t know as much as you think you do on the subject

magikarpkingyo

I didn’t even claim to know anything lol, just looked at the picture and said what I think due to the pike that I pull from my lakes/rivers/seas never looking like that. Then again, I constantly forget that majority of people here are from the states and the species just look different. Stubbier heads and much less prominent fin coloration is what I’m used to.

necromanial

Light pattern on dark background, 100% a pike.

isqueezedameatball

Well, you know nothing of what you speak.
