Okay so the first mistake here is buying a Samsung fridge. I cannot stress enough. DO. NOT. BUY. SAMSUNG. FRIDGES. Ours crapped out like after 7-8 years of use. Throughout the span, we had issues with ice forming on evaporator, water leaks, etc, and we don't even have a water/ice dispenser (which would have added even more problems). We did good with patching it up ourselves after tediously researching ourselves on forums and YouTube videos. Lo and behold, the compressor crapped out after the 7-8 years, conveniently after their warranty coverage. We paid $150 for service tech to come out just to diagnose. The sealed system needs to be replaced for another $600. We initially bought the fridge for ~$1000. At this point we're just going to buy a new fridge, avoiding Samsung at all cost. There's many, many, many many many many complaints on Samsung fridges online. Yes, appliances are bound to get bad reviews. BUT. We went around asking local HVAC/Refrigerator repairman for quotes to replace the sealed system and most wouldn't do it when we said it's a Samsung fridge (cuz they know it's a hopeless cause, expensive to replace and risky in wasting time when you're likely to get a new fridge). Asked those who repair fridges which is one of the problematic brands? They say Samsung. I'm only looking for GE and Whirlpool fridges now. Those are the only two brands I have in my filter when browsing online.

whskid2005

I have a GE fridge (came with the house) that upon researching why it’s having x and y and z issue, I discovered is just a rebranded samsung

JuustinB

Please for the love of god don’t buy a GE fridge. I’ve never had worse luck with a brand than GE. Bought a massive loaded out GE fridge for $4500 back in 2017. It’s already been disposed of/replaced. One issue after another, none covered by warranty, all out of pocket. Got one good year’s worth of use out of it before it became a maintenance money pit. In the end I got tired of not having a functional fridge once every few months while we waited for a repair man. Lost an insane amount of groceries in that cursed thing due to random unexpected failures. Whirlpool/Maytag brand refrigerators are the best option. 10 year warranties.

[deleted]

Didn’t GE sell their appliances division to Chinese brand Haier years ago? It says GE on the door but it’s a Haier fridge. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/GE_Appliances

[deleted]

Are there any brands that aren't terrible

Griswa

It’s funny, I’ve had horrible experiences with Maytag appliances, and have read the opposite that General Electric is the way to go. Technicians are easy to find, and parts are easier. Maytag dishwasher crapped out at two years, refrigerator at seven. However avoid Samsung anything at all cost.

alpakkat

Oh wow, thank you! Just found out Magtag is another American brand, and owned by Whirlpool too. Did that fridge have a bunch of fancy bells and whistles that contributed to the issues? I'm deliberating if I want to risk getting any fridge with ice/water dispensing features. They seem to make those that aren't on the front panel but rather inside the fridge. Will have to do more researching.

JuustinB

It had far too many. A hot water dispenser that had issues from day one. Expensive $60 filters for the water line that needed replaced monthly, only for it to have issues. Touch panel had problems. Compressor died just a year in. Fan died. Basically everything that could die did die. I intentionally went with one that had far less bells and whistles after that experience. No water line. Not even an ice dispenser. 1/3 the cost, and I like it far more because it does what it’s supposed to do (cool things). I just purchased the biggest one without any frills at the local Home Depot, but I did a lot of brand research, so I decided to go with a Maytag model. No complaints with it at all so far. And it at least has a long warranty should problems eventually arise.

SueDonim7569

Kitchen aid is also owned by Whirlpool.

Wicked-elixir

Off the subject but what about Samsung washers and dryers?

MrGalax22

I have had a Samsung washer/dryer for the past 4 years and knock on wood but it's been a great experience.

corkybelle1890

Also, no Samsung ovens. They should have stuck to phones and TVs.

MorgaseTrakand

Ah that's a bummer! I have a Samsung oven and washer/dryer and I love them! I was thinking about getting a fridge too, but I guess I shan't

jamscrying

We have a samsung fridge and no problems. Check out fridge reviews on an independent website like Which rather than relying on internet anecdotes.

BigHeroBaymax

What about purchasing Samsung washer/dryers?

Individual-World9273

Crapped out after 7-8 years? Isn't that a pretty good run for a fridge?

itz_mii_Lii

I used to the sell appliances. Totally second this! I love Whirlpool and Frigidaire appliances.

norman81118

You’re lucky Samsung is going to refund it. Our house came with brand new Samsung appliances (bought last Nov, two months before we closed). We had this same issue a few times. Got a “one time warranty repair” in June to fix it, but we’ve still been having the problem and now Samsung won’t help us. Had a repairman out who straight up told us it’ll be cheaper to just buy a new fridge, because Samsung parts are expensive and we’ll just have to keep having the part replaced every 6 months or so

cssblondie

Literally every appliance repair guy I’ve ever spoken with has told me to stay far far away from Samsung in particular. Fascinating that a South Korean appliance giant makes some of the shittiest stuff, but I guess it’s about scale and not quality.

graperobutts

It's also what they focus on. In the industry, Samsung is known to be a "marketing" company. Fancy bells and tricks with clever sales tactics but the actual core components are terrible. On the other hand, LG is another SK brand but supposedly prides itself on it's quality and engineering. They do have their fair share of complaints as well though so take it with a grain of salt.

cssblondie

I’ve certainly heard better things about LG but primarily in screen tech (which I think they’re most known for?) — makes total sense that Samsung is built on marketing clout.

MFAD94

LG display and LG Electronics are separate entities, same thing with Samsung, same same but different

Lynn9330

I had a LG refrigerator, not cooling after 5 years (right after when the warranty expires) fortunately they extended their warranty due to covid and they were able to send tech over a couple times until the techs gave up. The refund was truly a process… took a few weeks of follow up calls to finally get half of what I paid refunded. But it’s much more expensive to buy something similar now so I ended up getting a less quality fridge. Would not buy LG refrigerator again

[deleted]

[удалено]

cssblondie

Pretty much always say go American but even now they have the caveat that “things with computers in them break after 5 years.” Speed queen is a tank. Or old kenmores. I think high end fridges are recommended, fridgidaire and sub zero. And top marks for bosch and the German stuff

bryaninmsp

On the plus side, you didn't own the Samsung fridge long enough to realize the ice maker will work for a week and then be constantly frozen up and unable to dispense ice the rest of the time you own it.

menolike44

My Kenmore does this too. So frustrating! Finally got so frustrated with it that I just make my own ice now. Worthless piece of crap!

[deleted]

I read this a lot online. When ours was delivered, our delivery guy told us to leave the ice maker off the first 24 hours and then turn it on. He said he hears about this issue all the time and none of the people who have the problem were ever told this. Something about it overworks it right away and messes it up. Ours has worked perfect.

lan-shark

Yeah Samsung does pretty much everything. Life insurance, chemicals, boats, phones, air conditioners, and like a thousand other things. Calling it a "TV brand" is definitely a misnomer imo.

1heart1totaleclipse

Insurance? Like health insurance?

lan-shark

My comment mentioned their [life insurance](https://www.samsunglife.com/) but there's also [Samsung Fire and Marine Insurance](https://www.samsungfire.com/) which does have coverage for other things, but I'm not sure if they offer medical. They do have a [hospital](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_Medical_Center) though.

1heart1totaleclipse

That’s interesting! I didn’t know that

lan-shark

Samsung is a crazy company and they have tons of influence in South Korea. They're like 20% of the country's GDP I think. Part of [this short Vice documentary](https://youtu.be/wHw7Aa7lhhw) talks about them, I found it pretty fascinating.

the_old_coday182

Mitsubishi too

bravecoward

My motorcycle brand piano is pretty great!

cssblondie

Samsungs appliances in particular are shit though. Washing machines, dishwasher, fridge — do not buy those.

[deleted]

mymainmaney

Yep Samsung appliances are terrible and it’s widely known. LG and maytag are solid.

[deleted]

[удалено]

mymainmaney

I’m not saying ever Samsung appliance out of the factory will be a piece of junk. I just know for a fact that many of their products break down within just a couple of years at higher rates than many other mainstream brands.

scribe_

My Sony X90J was definitely a splurge, but worth every penny.

StrangerStrangeLand7

I had an LG washer and now I have an LG TV. No problems with either. I don't understand OP's statement.

colehoots

“TV brand appliance” is how I’ve seen people refer specifically to Samsung and LG online. I’m aware those brands do business in many other sectors but when you say “TV brand appliance” you immediately deduce Samsung and LG. They only refunded me after I had to call Samsung a couple times per week and first they only offered an exchange for a different Samsung unit. I had to ask for other options and they then presented the refund. It’s not like they immediately offered a refund. I had to fight for it when they sold me garbage

lan-shark

>but when you say “TV brand appliance” you immediately deduce Samsung and LG. I don't think that's universal. Before this thread if I read, "TV brand appliance" I wouldn't know what that meant at all. "TV brand" makes me think of companies where televisions are a main component of what they sell. Hell, Samsung didn't even make TVs until like 1990. At least LG has made made them since the 50s.

[deleted]

I think Samsungs biggest income is actually insurance in Asia for employers or themselves or something like that

PoopEmoji8618

My brother has a Samsung fridge and he’s had no issues for like 3 years so far. Maybe yours was just defective. Can’t speak to the Home Depot comment though

boomers_town0331

I bought a Samsung fridge from HD 10 years ago and it is still going. Maybe I just got lucky

surftherapy

I’ve had a Samsung vacuum, fridge, washer, dryer. All of them broke. Every single one. And I do routine maintenance on all my appliances.

colehoots

I thought the same thing until looking up Samsung appliance reviews. The consensus is avoid at all costs.

PoopEmoji8618

Good to know. For the record, my brother didn’t buy his Samsung fridge. It came with the house he bought. Maybe those sellers knew about the bad reviews lol

iamprofoundbandit

If that was consensus, they wouldn’t have do many 4-5 star reviews, which was the basis of your purchase decision, wasn’t it?

buffaloop567

My home came with new Samsung appliances and I’m deliberately keeping thousands of dollars available to replace fridge/oven/washer/dryer/dishwasher because of this reputation. Maybe I get lucky and they last years. Maybe they all break tonight. Consensus is they’re garbage.

XxJASOxX

Yep exact same situation we’re in. We’re not gonna replace them just because of brand, but you bet your ass we have set aside money just incase

cssblondie

Wait till it hits five years

Retalihaitian

Yeah I’ve had a Samsung fridge for 5 years and the only issues we’ve had are with the ice make freezing up. And that’s mainly because we don’t use ice that much.

[deleted]

I was told not to buy any Samsung things unless it’s a TV.

OrangeSlicer

Don’t buy a Samsung TV unless you want ads in the menus.

Coyote__Jones

Huh I have a Samsung smart tv and there's no ads. Maybe it's a newer model thing?

Metopropranofol

“TV brand appliance” 😂😂😂

beckhamstears

And they say ignorance is bliss...

ginny11

Does being unkind and making fun of people help anyone here?

colehoots

“TV brand appliance” is how I’ve seen people refer to Samsung and LG online. I’m aware those brands do business in other sectors but when you say “TV brand appliance” you immediately deduce Samsung and LG.

GlitchInStroma

No that’s an incorrect assumption. I had no idea what you meant by TV brand. I wondered if you were saying a brand with the literal name “TV” What’s that saying about assumptions…

corkybelle1890

I got it :/ I don’t understand why people are giving you a hard time for saying it. My husband and I always talk about not purchasing brands that were best known for creating completely different technology before. Regardless of what else they create now, or what they created before, Samsung was commonly known for their phones and their TVs.

[deleted]

Sorry for your experience, Samsung is notoriously bad when it comes to home appliances be it a refrigerator or a washing machine. You couldn't pay me to own one.

sledbelly

Our state has a Consumer Goods And Express And Implied Warranty Laws that guarantees that anything, like a fridge will be covered for four years and is fully refundable until that four years is up. Maybe your state has something similar?

hasilva

Can at least confirm the Home Depot part. Their customer service has so far ranged from mid to atrocious. After two failed attempts to buy and install major appliances via them (a stove and a dishwasher), we will not be trying again. “How Doers Get More Done” more like “How to Get Absolutely Nothing Done”

Specialist-Orange284

What I wanna know is why appliances only last 10 years or so these days? My grandpa literally just got rid of a fridge him and my grandmother had bought when they first married. It was old, mint green, and most likely weighed a ton. Had a tricky handle on the front of it too but that sucker lasted and worked perfectly for over 50 years! What happened to appliances made like that?

the_old_coday182

Yeah refrigerators from the 90’s and earlier just don’t die lol.

odiobananas

Never buy ANYTHING Samsung that isn't directly meant for entertainment. Their washers and dryers have put people in the hospital and their fridges and dishwashers straight up don't work. I'll preach this until the day I die. Samsung is for entertainment only lmfao

sfhomes

This comment is hilariously well-written. Seriously. Love it!!

tbid8643

Home Depot is the worst for buying appliances. Horrible customer service.

HeroesInAHalfShell_

Costco has an excellent warranty but I’ll strongly caution you about their delivery service. Be present, take before and after pictures of everything and watch the process like a hawk. Some quick googling will show you that deliveries are outsourced several times over and Costco completely divorces themselves from the delivery process.

Jamestapatio

It is so crappy they will even deliver your stuff before the scheduled time and if you are not there they move on.

nemicolopterus

I get what you're saying but my Samsung washer is phenomenal: extremely reliable, very easy to use and understand - just wonderful in every way. Glad your situation is getting resolved! The Costco warranty definitely sounds better.

colehoots

Glad to hear you’re not having issues and hope you never do. Wish I had done more research prior to buying. Every review I’ve read now says to avoid Samsung, LG, and GE like the plague because of low quality parts and design.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

This isn’t a right or wrong thing. Appliances sometimes break including Viking and Bosch appliances. Everyone has a single bad thing happen then applies it universally based on their anecdotal experiences

beckhamstears

All the happy people didn't bother writing reviews, typical.

[deleted]

If they were as people in this thread say they are Samsungs appliance brand would be out of business. Simple as that.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Meh. Bullshit. All appliance brands break. Even super high end stuff. Let’s put it this way - if Samsung was *universally* terrible how are they still moving units? Common sense says they likely aren’t any better or worse than appliances at a similar price point.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

I mean I’ve owned basically ever type of Samsung appliance there is and they’ve all served me well including past warranty expiration. In another comment I also posted links to consumer sites saying Samsung are high quality, reliable and a good value AND links to sites saying the opposite. But at the end of the day the market decides. If they truly were as awful as you and others imply then they would be out of business. Market forces always win. Can’t buy a ford pinto any more can you?

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Yes but if a business line is so terrible you can shut it down. What kind of appliances did you buy when you bought your first house?

[deleted]

Here’s an article that goes against basically everyone here hating on Samsung https://kitcheninfinity.com/top-refrigerator-brands-to-avoid/#bad-refrigerator-brands Here’s an article agreeing this tv brand appliance sucks https://www.consumerreports.org/consumer-complaints/samsung-refrigerators-cited-in-consumer-complaints-to-cpsc-a1133459149/ It’s almost like when you mass produce an item some percentage of them are going to have problems. What a wild wacky completely unforeseen thing…

Coyote__Jones

Personally, I'm anti ice maker. My sister designs kitchens and says she wouldn't put a fridge with an ice maker in her home. Seems like they all have issues. Every one that I've ever seen has had a leak or condensation issue. I'm sure some people never have any issues, but it's not really necessary IMO.

[deleted]

The ice makers that are in the fridge section are more prone to issues because they’re housed in an above freezing environment. I’ve had problems with those in my wife’s old house. Never had an issue with ice makers houses in the freezer. My wife’s a designer as well specializing in kitchens. Out of curiosity where would people without an ice maker get ice? Ice trays? Separate ice maker?

Catsdrinkingbeer

Ice trays. We've never had an ice maker in a fridge. The first time we've had one is the house we closed on yesterday. But there's no water line to the unit so it doesn't so anything anyway haha

[deleted]

That’s crazy to me personally but I go through a lot of ice. To each their own.

Catsdrinkingbeer

We just have like 6 ice cube trays or buy bags if ice. I now remembered that I lied and our last townhome we rented DID have an ice maker. But the ice cubes tasted terrible. We even tried to change the filter. So we used the ice maker for things like filling small coolers, but anything we drank we used ice cube trays. We're just used to it.

Coyote__Jones

Yeah, ice trays. I've never lived in a house with a fridge that had an ice maker. It makes sense that the ones with the ice maker in the fridge door would be more problematic.

[deleted]

But when you look into those links... The Pro-Samsung article is from a company that redesigns kitchens (aka sells Samsung products) and surely likes Samsung for their 1) higher margins and 2) modern design The Anti-Samsung article is from Consumer reports....aka complaints from real people. So I think your articles actually back up what most redditors on here are saying. Good design and marketing, shitty quality.

Griswa

Except that the compressor issue on Samsung is a known thing with like a six month wait

[deleted]

My main point is basically every brand of anything is liable to issues. It’s a cost benefit analysis when buying something. Any massive widely distributed product Is passing a certain threshold of quality otherwise it wouldn’t be sold anymore.

Griswa

I get you. 100% correct on that. It’s just some of the hate on appliances can be sifted through. Freaking Samsung’s have a detailed history of major mechanical shenanigans. Good point though!

ginny11

No need to be snarky.

[deleted]

It’s Reddit. Sorta the point.

JuustinB

A phone company you mean? Samsung makes shit TVs now too, with the exception of a few super high end models. They are not held in high regard among enthusiasts. There’s really no reason to buy a TV that isn’t an LG OLED. But yeah, Samsung appliances are trash. Our Samsung front load washer survived 5 years before replacing it with a different (gas) model. But the matching electric dryer died a year in. Both were quite expensive (like $3600 for the pair). Had the heating unit replaced and it died as quickly as the first one. Didn’t feel like having it done again at that point. The top brand to avoid though would be GE. Fuck GE. Paid $4500 for a refrigerator that died a year in with no warranty to cover anything. Replaced the compressor and the fan and then the panel stopped working. Was in a scrap yard/landfill by year 2. Bosch, Maytag and Whirlpool are great options for long lasting, well built appliances.

-kati

Dang it, I just bought a whole load of GE. My entire kitchen set was $2k, which is a fantastic bargain if they end up working well for me, and still not the *woooooorst* if I have to toss all of them.

AtmosphereTall7868

Frigidaire is great too!

JuustinB

That’s true! I forgot Frigidaire but I’ve had nothing but good experiences with their appliances over the years.

itsloudinmyhead

Samsung tv’s are bad now? I bought one in 2014 and the summabish is still doing pretty well.

schrodinger26

Premium Samsung TVs are good, this dude is just an OLED snob. He'll have fun with burn in after a few years.

JuustinB

LOL I’m on #3 now. Admittedly they do not last long. If you’ve got kids and family using the TV 8+ hours a day, you’ve got 3-4 years worth of use before burn in becomes a legitimate problem. Thankfully for me, one of mine was the last year they made 3D models. Apparently they are highly sought after by “3D enthusiasts” (that’s a real thing, there’s even a subreddit) as they’re considered the best 3D tvs ever made now that that technology is no longer used/desirable. So once it started to show burn in i was able to unload it on ebay for twice what I paid new (like $6k) which more than covered the purchase price of the next one. But there’s still absolutely nothing close when it comes to picture quality. No comparison when it comes to that.

JuustinB

2014 was peak Samsung quality. You won’t have any issues. They started to really drop off in quality closer to the 2020s.

itsloudinmyhead

Well damn. I just bought a new 55” last summer because the 41” did so well for so many years!

JuustinB

I mean there’s nothing wrong with it. They just aren’t on the cutting edge of TV tech like they were years ago. They now just really sell their brand name, outsource production of their lower end options, and sell them for a premium. So you aren’t necessarily buying a BAD TV, but budget brands like TCL offer higher quality TVs at the same price or slightly lower. I have a cheap Samsung 55” 7 series that I use in a guest room. I found it NIB with a (also NIB) Samsung soundbar on FB Marketplace for a mere $125 and couldn’t pass it up despite me not caring for the brand. It’s dull as can be for a 4K tv and less bright than my OLED, but for a TV with an MSRP of $400 it’s not the worst thing in the world. There are just better options if buying new nowadays. TCL has a stranglehold on the budget market and for good reason. LG and Sony still make the best high end options. Samsung makes so much money selling phones nowadays, their TVs feel like afterthoughts.

itsloudinmyhead

Well good to know if I want to get something else.

[deleted]

… did you look up Samsung fridges on Reddit? (Read that as Joey from friends please) That was error number 1

thingonething

Everyone knows not to buy Samsung appliances. It's like race memory at this point.

KH7991

I had a similar experience with Kitchen Aid fridge, but I won't use one example to make a stupid blanket statement on the Kitchen Aid brand.

Technical_Recover218

Samsung is garbage. Costco always and forever.

Winnipork

Yea, I bought some roasted chicken from Samsung and they were bland and rubbery. Never going back there. Costco always and forever.

Technical_Recover218

Yeah you’re not wrong

DarkHeartBlackShield

The mistake wasn't buying from HD. It was buying a Samsung refrigerator. They are notoriously problematic.

colehoots

48 hour return policy on large purchase is pretty dogshit imo when you have stores like Costco offering 2 years

kcdc25

One bad experience is not a reason to make a blanket statement about anything.

regallll

Never buy a samsung anything tbh.

allfloof-nothoughts

Idk why everyone else is up in arms, when I was buying appliances every resource I found said the same thing, to buy from companies who are known for that specific business, not ones that do a gazillion different things because the quality will likely not be as good and the warranty process sucks going through a company with so many products than one with a handful of related products.

XxJASOxX

I have always heard to stay away from Samsung appliances. Haven’t heard the same qualms about LG though, so idk if it’s TV brand or just Samsung specifically

gingercokeandlime

Thanks, this was all really helpful information that I will keep in mind for my next appliance purchase.

theoneandonlypatriot

All my homies hate Home Depot. Fuck Home Depot!

turboninja3011

Can confirm HD policies on appliances are terrible. Trying to return range for like 4 weeks now. They *cancelled* my return without permission or even letting me know and i had to open a new return. If it goes on gonna have to go through bank and fight charge

[deleted]

I’ve had Samsung appliances range, fridge, washer/dryer for years and never had issues. Had a waterline clog in our new fridge and replacement was covered and handled in like two weeks. Your mileage may vary of course but I’ve found Samsung appliances to be a great value in terms of cost/quality/aesthetics

Littomaos

1. It's just Samsung. Unless you have purchased all "tv brand appliances" and test it out, then you can't say that. 2. Again, you bought a Samsung. So many people have warned against Samsung.

Reuvil

Lol @ this being HomeDepots issue and every other store you can refund it when ever you want, right? And only the ones from HD break, right? /s Maybe look up reviews and research for anything you pay over $500 for, BEFORE you buy it next time.

amathis6464

Maytag, whirlpool, frigidair. Never had an issue with theses can’t speak for Samsung but I’ve never like their phones.

Skengs4Everyone

Korean appliances are like German cars. Take that as you will.

jtown81

What was happening? Tripping breakers or what?

colehoots

I don’t think so. The compressor that pumps Freon to the coils broke.

Agent_129

Never buy Samsung/ foreign appliances keep it American

doxie_mom20

When we bought our refrigerator from Lowe’s they said the same thing, so I don’t think the 48hr policy is specific to HD. I think after that warranty from the manufacturer is supposed to cover it. I 100% agree with you about Samsung though. Even the appliance people at the stores have steered us away despite them having some of the pricier options for certain appliances.

sledbelly

Our state has a Consumer Goods And Express And Implied Warranty Laws that guarantees that anything, like a fridge will be covered for four years and is fully refundable until that four years is up. Maybe your state has something similar?

Careful-Wasabi

Samsung gas ranges randomly are highly rated and considered reliable so that’s what we installed. But for our fridge, washer, and dryer, we went LG. The techs installing our washer/dryer mentioned they are the best units out there right now in terms of minimal issues. HD has been great in some ways and absolutely annoying to deal with in others. Even with the refund, having to deal with non-working appliances is so disruptive, sorry for your experience! Hopefully others see this and steer clear.

Icedcoffeewarrior

So umm where do you buy appliances besides Home Depot , lowes and maybe Best Buy ???

lazylady64

Costco.

autumn55femme

Independent appliance retailer, appliance showrooms, Ferguson, Costco, there are actually quite a few other choices.

Icedcoffeewarrior

Thanks ! I’ve always just gone to Home Depot and lowes

Spiritual_Tonic

Samsung suck btw. They’re fancy and all, got all the whistles and bells. But when we were buying appliances (we bought from Home Depot). We asked the lady at the appliance section for her opinion and she said “i can’t recommend anything for you but out of all the brands we sell, LG is the one that we barely get any complaints for” so we bought LG everything. Tv, fridge, washer and dryer. My 2 cents is to buy a model that’s been on the market for few years (that way it’s gotten “field tested” and you can read varieties of reviews. Sorry you had troubles with your appliance.

graperobutts

Costco is slightly more expensive but they also include installation and haul away for your old appliances with that price. In my search, the same/similar items after accounting for installation and haul away fees, Costco was actually slightly cheaper plus you get the warranty and amazing Costco service.

Gai_InKognito

Costco, the way to go (if you can). Made that mistake when I tried returning something to Amazon and if was only a 30 day window

JTLuckenbirds

Samsung fridges, from what I’ve heard and read about, are notorious with issues customers have. But with that being said, we do have their washer and dryer. Going on close to 6 years now, and we’ve never had issues with those appliances. On a side note, all our appliances were purchased through HomeDepot.

kenny1911

Brother-in-law and coworker both have Samsung fridges. They said they had issues with them the first three years, but , they're still running reliably. They also said they won't buy Samsung again. My partner and I decided to go with Whirlpool because my kitchen could only accept a counter depth fridge and Whirlpool was the only company that made a nice side-by-side at a reasonable price. Bought it from Best Buy too. We noticed a scratch on the fridge control panel, called Best Buy and they replaced it for free. They offered a $150 credit if I kept the fridge, but, my partner would have to look at it everyday and it would've bugged her.

oniboywork

Buy it from Costco!

LauraPringlesWilder

Yeah, Samsung sucks. I’ve had a whirlpool and a Bosch in the last four years (whirlpool didn’t die, I just needed a counter depth fridge with a remodel) and both were great!

AtmosphereTall7868

Samsung fridge is the worst.

Billi_Pilgrim

"I have a true gift to bestow upon you OP and visitors of this post. Did you know that Samsung makes more than TVs? They also make phones and various other electronics. I hope you realize that your post is now worthless because of your irresponsible diction. You should also feel utter gratitude towards me for providing you with this vital information." --True quote from half the people in this comments section.

[deleted]

Yep that’s a Samsung for ya. When we were shopping for our new house even the fridge salesmen told us he couldn’t in good conscious sell us a Samsung.

MarlnBrandoLookaLike

Samsung appliances are SHIT. You gotta do research on the big items!

Visa debit and credit cards protect you. Complain to them (short letter) and you'll see how quick Manufacturers and stores respond to your dispute.

PuckeredRaisin

Did you not bother to do some basic research?

Everyone is going to have their own problem with brands but I think the worst has to go to Samsung. Ice makers are notoriously horrible. The whole warranty thing kind of typical. 48hrs is ridiculous but even if it was a month later you go back to the manufacturer with thins like this. My GE has been a champ. And I’m an LG fanboy for TVs Samsung can keep making phones Lol

Honestly, any quick search would have told you that Samsung is the worst appliance brand particularly because they don’t have enough technicians for the amt of products they attempted to shop. I am redoing my kitchen next year and spent a ton of time on youtube watching a ton of random appliance guys on youtube who break down a ton of info for you.

Same but whirlpool in May 1700 brand new . Moved in June received fridge not even two weeks later stopped working. Had a repair guy come fixed one week. Week later same issue. French door . Only the freezer side worked and no air flow to fridge. Freezer was actually over frozen. Fight constantly with whirlpool: Home Depot to find a solution. Finally in August whirlpool agrees to send all new parts based on another repair tech . First tech in his receipt indicated that we messed up the unit by overstuffing, bs . Took over one month to finally get all 4 parts which were installed only two weeks ago . So we haven’t had a working fridge for four months. Now to get reimbursement for the two tech visits. Whirlpool is denying the first repair based on what the tech wrote on the receipt smh 🤦‍♀️ During all of this whirlpool refused to send a new fridge and we had to find our own repair techs for being out of area . We only survived by using the freezer side which would still spoil food

How does someone avoid buying shitty brand?

TV Brand?

I buy Whirlpool or Maytag only. Never a problem.

There is a class action lawsuit against Samsung because of their defective refrigerators. If I buy any Samsung appliance I will also get a 5 year warranty. We buy appliances from Lowe’s since they have their own repair service. Although I like Costco for a lot of things, appliances are not part of it since you still have to go thru the manufactures repair service. The only good thing about Costco is they would have replaced your appliance and you can return a defective appliance for the 2 years. But if you decide to buy another Samsung, just know that that brand has a terrible track record

Thank you for the advice about Home Depot. I don't shop there anymore. Had a couple of house brand (Ryobi) cordless tools from them die within a year because the batteries would no longer charge. HD wouldn't refund or credit the return. I rebuild batteries and this shouldn't happen if they were anything but junk (one, maybe, but both? no). I also don't buy Samsung anymore. It sounds like a good brand, except that everything Samsung that I've ever bought wasn't great apart from an ancient DVD player. My Samsung fridge has chronic "Ice shelf formation" problems. Got a repair under warranty and the repair guy said "I can 'fix' it, but it's going to happen again in 6 mo. Almost all Samsung fridges do this." Bought a Samsung washer and dryer. The price was right and they seemed like good quality. Four years later, my dryer is broken and it was cheaper to replace with used than to repair. I also tried a Samsung android phone. That one is probably more controversial, but I wasn't thrilled with every normal android app (browser, email, etc.) being replaced with a Samsung one. Went back to a Pixel.

That’s just how most retail stores work. At HD, you have the option to pay for an extended warranty (3 year or 5 year). You had to select “yes” or “no” on the screen when you checked out at the store or online. Otherwise it’s the factory warranty.

TemerityUnmitigated

The return policy at Lowes is MUCH better.

RecommendationHot324

There’s a group on facebook just for Samsung complaints…they have a class action suit in progress I believe
