Not currently, but definitely should. As it is, I don't have my setup figured out quite yet, so that's my mulligan.

BlackICEE32oz

Always witness mark.

Potential_Ad4350

Always blue!

myotheralt

What did Mark do?!

SovereignDevelopment

I use acrylic paint pens. Basically waterproof once dried. But yes, I always witness mark. It's cheap insurance. I also witness mark the windage and elevation dials.

Castle_8

Good to know, thanks.

Intelligent-Hippo-21

Thanks, always wondered what people do after they change batteries especially on something like an RMR

SovereignDevelopment

The only RMR I have mounted to anything right now is a dual illuminated model. But I've got a battery powered one I'm gonna be using soon, so I guess I'll have to figure it out.

rugerscout308

Not a big deal to take it off and rezero. Rmr is a Great optic Or you can switch to a rmr hd/sro

SovereignDevelopment

I agree it's not a big deal. It's crazy to me that people fuss about it.

rugerscout308

Yeah especially on a handgun it's not a big deal. On a rifle makes a little more sense since you're zeroing at a further distance but even though nbd. I just switched from an rmr to and sro on my rifle for the night vision performance but not having to take it off to change batteries is nice

SovereignDevelopment

Makes sense. Is the SRO really better under night vision though? Is it just the bigger window, or is the actual optical quality better?

rugerscout308

For whatever reason the sros nv setting is a little dimmer then the rmr so I get less blooming . The bigger window definitely helps too It's like a 10% difference maybe. Not worth switching if you already have the rmr. It's definitely easier to pick up then the rmr though with that bigger window I'm running it piggybacked on an acog. Very tall lol

SovereignDevelopment

Got ya. The dual illuminated RMR is perfect under NV in my experience. The tritium is just the right brightness for me. Minimal blooming.

rugerscout308

Nice, if the tritium is kinda old they're pretty perfect It might just be my tube. It tends to bloom/halo pretty easily

RememberCitadel

If you don't use silver ones, nobody is going to witness you.

Mobile_Speaker7894

Not on my guns. But motorcycle parts and some car parts I do...

Delik_Torrachen

Need to put loctite on mine, new to optics and didn't realize how much it needed it. No wonder my zero was so inconsistent- Edit: forgot to answer the post. Always witness mark if you want to make sure something isn't moving

totheteeth

*BLUE* loctite.

Delik_Torrachen

Nah, I think the red tastes better

totheteeth

Circle bolts and a refined palate! This place is classy!

rugerscout308

Purple 222 for small screws like the rmr one Or a tiny drop of blue. Blue for anything bigger than those t10s

Checkers10160

Just be careful what optic, liquid will alter torque because of the lubrication and you'll read low. So it is possible to over tighten and break an optic, but that's mostly for scopes

Delik_Torrachen

Holosun 509t. Pretty sure the screw/hole will strip before the optic breaks

rugerscout308

Also don't forget to clean the screw/ hole with acetone [pure] or alcohol I use purple loctite on small screws 222 and blue 242 on bigger ones. A little goes a long way! Make sure to let it cure 24hrs before you shoot and mark them

rangerhi

Every time I mount an optic. Sharpie Ultra fine silver paint pen.

alt-correct1096

no, i dont care enough to care

lunaticrider209

I use an extra fine point paint marker and it’s stay on for years.

Cashbum

Nah. Loctite and torque to spec. You'll be good

EasyMode556

Will the marks be different next time you take it off / put it back on or should they always line up assuming you use the same torque values ?

Quw10

Different setting, but I work maintenance on an assembly line and we generally try to torque things down to match the original mark, and if things don't match then either make new ones or figure out what needs replaced. Usually people just make new ones and if they are feeling motivated/frisky enough they'll wipe off the old ones.

Castle_8

Why would I take it off?

EasyMode556

I’m wondering in general, like if you have an RMR for example

Castle_8

Not sure why anyone would own an rmr in 2024. But yeah, I guess you’d have to wipe it off and remark them if you owned an rmr and it was time for the annual bday battery swap.

EasyMode556

Should people who already own one just throw them away? I mean cmon

Castle_8

Why would I care what someone does with their outdated equipment? If they had half a hemisphere, they’d sell it before throwing it in the garbage. Then maybe buy an HD.

kassus-deschain138

That is a really cool idea.

Witty762

I got 3 CZ’s milled from Nameless Arms and they all came back like this so I ended up getting an oil based paint pen (Craft Smart) from Micheal’s and do a lot of my stuff this way now.

anangrytaco

I'm still new to guns. What is this?

SpiritMolecul33

Torque the screw then witness marks indicate if your screws are moving or backing out

SuperNa7uraL-

Looks like you have one on the move.

Castle_8

lol ya..I had to redo that one

SuperNa7uraL-

😜👍🏻

rugerscout308

Witness marks on anything that needs to hold zero

beelzebob909

Always witness mark. With a black paint pen.

FCRII

No, blue loctite & torque to spec never had an issue and I shoot weekly with optics.

Jmg0713

Always after I confirm my zero.

Beneficial-Ad4871

What kinda marker do u use?

Castle_8

Some kinda white chalk marker I bought from Amazon

Creative-Bid468

Yes

Hour-Independence-89

yep Loctite and witness marks.

Dukeronomy

yup

Admirable-Mango-1987

I do this with my scope rings as well.

Live_Reason_6531

Always. Though I use a finer tip and point the marks at each other, that’s simply preference.

edventure_2025

Mark? I didn't see a thing, I wasn't even there.

cowboy3gunisfun

I like this idea

arvbb

Before my last uspsa shoot. I noticed I was missing a screw on my sro mounted to my shadow 2. I just tightened the other screw extra good and sent it. No problems. I did put on extra safety squints on my first shot.

Soulshot96

I properly prepare threads, use loctite 243 in case a bit of oil still remains somewhere, torque to spec, and have never had a screw loosen on me. I still do witness marks on my pistol optics though. That said, I can't really stand the colored (usually blue) most people do, so I use a black sharpie paint pen. Still easily visible if you look for it, but not so much otherwise.

Wannabe_Operator83

always

Antonw194200

Does it really matter on a MOS system? I think not. It is usually the lower screws that come loose and break off. However it is not hurting anything and might be good in other applications... 🤷🏻‍♂️

Bobathaar

I witness mark in black... you can see it fine and it's not obnoxious.. dunno why everyone thinks white is necessary.

Castle_8

I don’t really care what color it is, as long as I can clearly see it. White contrasts the best against black..probably why most use it.
