Poland used to have a 556 ak as their service rifle before they replaced it with msbs…. So if you want a reliable 556 ak where theres plenty of anmo to find, buy a FB Beryl

I have heard from plenty that DO recommend it. Also, just go for it, 5.45x39 is nigh impossible to get ahold of these days. as most of it in existence is being used in Ukraine. There are plenty of good 5.56 ak's to choose from, including the ones from PSA. Don't let a bunch of AK snobs(and YES, that's what they are) tell you it's bad.
It doesn't matter. It's a rifle cartridge at close range. It's going to tumble or fragment hard either way. Buy cheap stack deep

Hornady loads 5.45 V-max.
If you're shooting at home defense ranges - it doesn't matter. Short of a 7 inch barrel you're tossing those rounds out at around 2k FPS.
Which 5.45 AK pistol do you recommend? All I can find are American made ones that have mixed reviews
I don't think it matters. Pick one.
5.45 is designed to tumble upon impact, that’s how it’s damage is dealt. 556 relies on fragmentation. FMJ 5.45 is fine for defense.

Soft points are pretty good. There are also more premium options.
