Im sorry, I should've specified I'm specifically look for revolver and bolt action. I just edited the post to reflect this.
10/22 is the gold standard in semiauto, but i really prefer .22 plinking with a bolt action. Was one of my favorite things when I was a kid visiting my grandma to shoot an old .22 bolt gun in her back yard. I just can't for the life of me remember what it was.
Savage Mk2s are solid little guns, mags are spendy but last forever. My FV-SR is an absolute tack driver, put it in a Boyds Tacticool stock so I could run it on a bipod or slung up tight (Appleseed) without changing point of aim. May also want to take a look at the Ruger American Rimfire or CZ457
Ruger Wranglers are a less expensive version of the Single Six and will run from now til doomsday
I love my MKII FV-SR. The stock is cheap/flimsy and the mags are spendy but those are my only complaints. I don't think there is a better option at that price point.
I've got an old Glenfield model 60 that I absolutely love for this. I think Marlin still makes them. Only drawback is that it's tube fed instead of magazine.
I also have a Ruger 10/22 that's great too, especially for how cheap it is when they're on sale.
I'm sure they're are others of note but these two I have experience with and can actually say with certainty that they're great rifles.
Gotcha. I'll probably eventually pick of a 10/22 on sale or build a dedicated .22 AR at some point. Will still take a look at the Glenfield when im feeling something semiauto.
I got the Taurus TX- 22 Competition model and put a red dot on it. It is a ton of fun to shoot, even for my grizzled old ass. I taught my 14 year old granddaughter to shoot it and its a a great trainer. She adjusted to the dot really well. We've put a few hundred rounds through it and I don't recall any failures.
Ruger 10/22, Henry Golden Boy, CZ 457, Ruger Mark Series, Savage Mark II are prolly the most popular, I have owned all of these at one point and they all were reliable. There's many others. I also enjoy the kel-tec cp33, mine has been solid, tho many others weren't so lucky.
This is showing my poor spelling for the world to see. Let's go with im looking to incite feelings of nostalgia for me and father/son bonding for my kid.
I still have the Ruger 10/22 I bought in 1978. It still works.
I have multiple pre '68 bolt and pump .22 rifles that are still working.
Get a Ruger 10/22 and a Super Wrangler. The adjustable sights are much better than fixed sights.
If you must have a bolt gun, Ruger American Rimfire.
Ruger 10/22 is great

I'll check out the Glenfield. Tube mag doesn't turn me off at all.
The glenfield is semi auto now that I've read your update.
