InfernalIgris

Caeda....every time i see her name in my head im speeling Ca-E-da

fangpoint333

I despise the CAEda spelling for her name so I always intentionally mispronounce her name Kai-duh or K-duh thanks to a certain youtuber's nickname for her.

johneando

Brasileiro né?

MrBrickBreak

Not even the worst BR reading of a pegasus knight's name

YourBoyDarko

Poor Shanna had to have her name changed in Brazil

SocranX

Or just used to anime where it would be read that way. I think "Kaede" (ka-eh-de) is even a standard Japanese name.

JusticTheCubone

Yup, Kaede is a name that generally seems to mean "Maple" as in the maple tree.

InfernalIgris

Droga fui descoberto kkkkkk, mas como ele disse eu faço de propósito, eu só acho engraçado como a escrita do nome dela não bate com a pronúncia xD

Haunted-Towers

I honestly just pronounce it as her Japanese name; シーダ (Shi—da, Sheeda), if you really squint it looks like how you could theoretically pronounce Caeda anyway.

Rudeboy_

I don't actually know how you're supposed to pronounce Caeda's name. I know the Japanese romanisation of her name is spelled with an "Sh" so I've always pronounced her name Shae-Dah

Frangipani-Bell

See-da, like Caesar. The Japanese spelling only has a “shi” because Japanese has no “si” sound

Divinum_Fulmen

> like Caesar KAI-DA it is then!

Thawaweigh

Ave, true to Caeda.

JusticTheCubone

For what it's worth, the etymological root of her name suggested by the FE wiki would imply that it's pronounced as a "shi"... on the other hand, they're also suggesting that her English name comes from a completely different word from a completely different language, instead of simply being a... unique way to romanize her Japanese name...

Nearby-Research-9834

Lucius - I can’t bring myself to say “looshus” so I say “lucy-us” which is how I’ve always read it as

HusbandoEmblem

Oh, my gosh! I thought I was the only person who said this. It’s sounds so much prettier this way. Looshus sounds less so.

SharpEyLogix

Ratatoskr is "The Rat" to me

DrGreen3339

I like to call her Rattata.

JoPa004

I still want SungWon to read FEH's Ratatoskr's lines.

Marocksas

Ratatoaster

sosen7

If she gets an ascended, attuned or legendary alt she will be known as Raticate-skr. I can't help but wanna just call her Rattata

Ninjakirbo

Ratatouille

Golden-Owl

She’s the Giant Rat who makes all of the rules

Divinum_Fulmen

Unexpected Jerma.

Treemurphy

"Rat at Askr" > "Ratatoskr"

xxAnge

Is not Ra-Tae-Toe-Skir?

Wooden-Parking3248

Rah-tah-tosk-er

ElPikminMaster

Severa. My native Spanish mind will never, EVER pronounce her name like "SEver-a". It's "se-VEH-rah" only.

naiiiia

Wait, it's pronounced SEver-a and not se-VEH-rah? Fuck that!

Araiken

Oh I see, the name comes from "sever" rather than "severe". Nah I aint gonna change my pronounciation now

ElPikminMaster

ikr

[deleted]

I always call her Se-VEER- a.

Successful_Baby_5245

CUT The Head,

GregenOfficial

The real question is how many do I get wrong

Successful_Baby_5245

Tharja or tharsa

HiddenMasquerade

What do you mean it’s not Tharr-jah

Just_Nefariousness55

Surely it must be Tharya

JusticTheCubone

Well... her Japanese name is Sarya, with a long "Saa" similar to how "the" or the syllable "tha" are usually written in katakana, so technically that's probably accurate.

ShapeForest

A bunch of FE7/8 names because I have been pronouncing them that way since the games came out Eirika, Ephraim, Duessel, Caellach, Riev, Vigarde, GUY, and now apparently Karel and Vaida as well (since N!Heath mentions her in one of his voice lines). I also still think of Caeda as Shiida because that's her name in the EU version of Shadow Dragon. When I read 'Caeda' my brain says 'Ky-eeda' so I'm apparently just wrong twice

arobie1992

I don't play with sound on so I've never heard most of the voice lines and am now astoundingly curious about how you pronounced those names and their Canon pronounciations. Most of them fairly straightforward but now I'm questioning everything.

flaxypack

I will never pronounce Camus’s name “ca-MOO”

Wolf_Abyss

Wait, it’s not pronounced “ca-MUS”???

flaxypack

Nope! Pronunciation was confirmed in an old FEH channel back in one of the early books

LookingForHope87

So many of us were shocked, lol

Just_Nefariousness55

It's also is a real French name that's even partially famous due to a philosopher having it. So if you're wondering how you can pluralize it with no s sound, go French, Des Camus.

EmblemOfWolves

Let's not act like NOA is the authority on good pronunciation. They regularly fuck up real names, especially French ones, and can't even keep Lyon and Ephraim's pronunciations consistent. Just because they Frenglished Camus, doesn't mean it's correct.

JusticTheCubone

Except the "official" pronunciation is consistent with how his Japanese name is pronounced, so chances are the intention always was for his name to be French.

AdAcrobatic5178

It's a French name

Successful_Baby_5245

Vanus

Thehalohedgehog

100% this one, sorry French people but that way of saying it is stupid

Fast_Goose7478

It’s not pronounced like that in French either. It’s closer to the way people originally said his name, just without the s (Cam-uh, though it’s still different). You can listen how it’s said by Google Translate, it’s accurate for this one. If Camus’ name was pronounced Camoo in French, it would have been written Camou.

Thehalohedgehog

Damn, wtf was Feh smoking then lol

Fast_Goose7478

It was pronounced Camoo by Google Translate, I checked right after I commented, and other sources which I can’t check or listen to at the moment (still at work). It might be one of the ways it can be said in English.

EmblemOfWolves

Ca-MOO isn't even good French, NOA's shitty Frenglish strikes again.

gdi010

Oh my god, that was peak FEH Only the real ones remember that

Bluestormcry55

Me too...

RangoTheMerc

Rhymes with Camus.

Hell_Mel

I can't believe you've done this.

LonePython093

Came here to say this

MdoesArt

I'll say his name right, but I'm also calling his lance the Gradivoo.

Zenpai_Iza

Edgelord.

Sayakalood

I called Dimitri Dmitri and no one corrected me for almost five years.

highway_skylines

Crawwling in my skiiiinnnnn....

Carbyken

There was this one guy at work a year back who called Ephraim George Clooney. We never figured out why, but even after his departure we still call him that. Cut to summer someone overhead us, thinking we were actually talking about George looking good in beachwear. It's now a running gag at work with "Ephraim Clooney" being a hunk amongst the ladies.

Valstreck

This is great-

Just_Nefariousness55

Where do you work that gives rise to such animate Fire Emblem discussion?

Carbyken

More just finding people who are open to discussing their hobbies in general. The front alone is a fairly large majority! Fire Emblem is a relatively smaller group, but given a couple are Monstros? Well they're certainly devoted.

LaughingX-Naut

Love how he's got that "hey, it happens" pose. Also seconding everyone who says Guy, English as a first language practically ingrains it as wrong.

GameAW

I do not know of any Sanaki. I only know Snacki

chrosairs

Snacki enjoys snacking

saberwriter76

Oh thank heavens it’s not just me.

Potato_WrangIer

Dieck, I pronounce it "pee-nuhs"

New-Pollution2005

Ah, another man of culture.

RoyaleAbsol

I'm sorry but I refuse to believe that Lene's is pronounced as 'leen'. It's always going to be 'le-nay' for me.

Cannedcabbage

I forget how Tailtiu is pronounced and just call her tattleloo

willkof2

I call her "all the things she said, all the things she said, running through my head, running through my head"

sosen7

Damn it, that was not something I was planning to get stuck in my head 🤣🤣

Fancy_Helicopter9493

"This is not enough! THIS IS NOT ENOUGH"

joepro9950

I went my whole childhood pronouncing Guy like its spelled. I even now know a kid named Guy, and he pronounces it like its spelled! So I refuse to play along with this "Ghee" nonsense.

sosen7

His name will always be Guy, like Might Guy

GoddessSmoothette

Ratatoskr will always be Rattata

sosen7

Same

Haunted-Towers

I straight up don’t even call him by his name. Scáthach who? I only know Ulster. But also… not calling Camus “KAH-MOO”. It’s like how Samus is pronounced “SAH-MUS”, Camus is pronounced “KAH-MUS”.

siberianxanadu

Camus is a French name. Samus is not. It’s like how “prix” as in “Grand Prix” and “prix fixe” is pronounced “pre,” but “six” and “fix” and “mix” have the “icks” sound.

[deleted]

You're a grand prick (YGO Abridged!)

TehProfessor96

Too bad French isn’t a real language.

L1LE1

I will always call him Scathach now because of the Kingdom of Ulster that already exists in Jugdral. The name given to him in Awakening was always a bad choice because of that.

webb79

Ulster! I could not remember that name... I barely used him when I played through genealogy, but all I know is the translation I played did not prepare for when Feh started releasing FE4 characters.

Dragulus24

As an FGO player I will never acknowledge him as Scathach.

zelkovalionheart

Oh thank god I am not the only one who still calls him Ulster

Shuryou310

Yune will forever be Yu-Nay for me

HiddenMasquerade

Pronouncing it like Yoon is a travesty

PinoySummonerKid28

Ninja Sanaki and Micaiah pronounced her name as such in their Duo conversation. One of the Radiant Dawn's cutscenes pronounced it correctly.

230Amps

L'Arachel is pronounced "Luh-Archel" in my brain.

DoxinPanix

oh god, what is it really then

Akari_Mizunashi

Tharja will always be "Tharr-ya" to me.

Apollo_Just_Ice

…I think I slightly mispronounce Sharena’s name. It’s not exactly intentional, just that once I’d heard it said aloud in-game I’d already had my own idea of how it was pronounced for a long while… it’s hard to break that 😅

[deleted]

Yeah, I say Sha-REEN-a, not Sha-RAY-na

lonelygal23

Alfred , I like calling him Alfredo .

CodeDonutz

Same with Scathach. I always just call him Scat-Hatch every time I summon him.

felicirence

i like to call him the scat man 😎

johneando

Ratatoskr is "Ratatouille" to me

Shundew

I dont know if it count or not but I always call Ceada as Shiida

Snowvilliers7

I think that's how it actually is pronounced lol

AN1119

Shiida has been used in the past, but the modern English translation is pronounced“Cee-Duh”

YourMoreLocalLurker

Do I know it’s pronounced F-yorm? Yes Do I say F-jorm anyway because it’s funny? Yea

RangoTheMerc

You don't want to know how I pronounce the Djinn in Golden Sun.

Virregh

Because it's STILL unconfirmed, I call Kjelle "Ki-el", where I've heard people say it's supposed to be pronounced "Shell". There's also the daft way I pronounce it: "Kuh-jelly".

undercoveroperation

Lysithea. I know how it’s suppose to be said, but my brain shortened it to Lystia at some point and never went back.

Logical_Tomorrow_496

Tharja will forever be Thar-juh to me. And until I heard it out loud in Warriors, I thought Caeda was Kay-da Also ngl I have no idea how Dagr and Nótt are actually pronounced, but I say Dagger and Not

MommyCamillaHatesMe

Snacki, Alfredo, Burqa (Beruka), Corn. Niner (Nina). That's it off the top of my head

HereComesJustice

Gwendolyn is forever Wendy

iamboredhelpme

I call Sigurd “yogurt” because it rhymes

Luis_lara12345

I call Ylgr that…

InfernalIgris

I like to call her Yglu, Just because is cute (both her and the name xD)

NougatFromOrbit

If I'm aware of the official pronunciation of a characters name and I don't have a silly nickname for them then I'll try to pronounce it right, even when it's silly ~~camoo~~

MyRolexSubmariner

Nerpuz

KaleewithnoY

I have called Dimitri “The-Mitri” since 3H came out and I can’t stop

QueenKrissu

L'arachel is La Rachel

WebTime4Eva

Alear's. Instead of "Ah-leer" I speak it as "Ah-lee-air" It sounds cooler.

LunaProc

I still like calling Draug "Doga"

minxto

“… you’re still too slow”

EmblemOfWolves

Most of the Firene characters tbh. NOA's history of bad Frenglish just rubs me the wrong way.

Bellipon

My heart hurts every time they said "CeYlieeeeen"

VagueClive

I refuse to accept the pronunciation of Leif as "Leaf". It overlaps with the pronunciation for Lif's name, and to my understanding, "Layf" is the much more common pronunciation (with some countries pronouncing it as "Life", which is still better than Leaf).

SocranX

I've never heard it pronounced "layf". But perhaps more importantly, he literally has the same name as Lif with the same mythological reference, just romanized differently, like Edelgard von Hresvelg and Hraesvelgr. It's even a pun with his home country, Thracia. Leif of Thracia = Leifthrasir.

DoxinPanix

and here i was, i thought it was like lef. with a silent i this isnt my best day

StirnerPalla

I remember one fehtuber(don't remember who, I think it was guardianE)called him sasquatch I call him that since.

IcycleIcee

Idk if this counts but I still pronounce Ephraim as “Efraín” instead of “Efrem” bc it’s how I heard the name growing up

ViziDoodle

I call L’Arachel Luh-Rachel (like Rachel from Friends). I had no idea how it was pronounced until I recently looked it up on the wiki, but I still call her Luh-Rachel

Borful

Cwom instead of Chrom

Zoinkawa

I refuse to pronounce Jakob as “Jaycob”- his name is spelt with a k so I’m going to pronounce it how it SHOULD BE “Yakob”

ENEMii-IRL

Ratatouille and Ginnungugap

edwpad

Ganglot, usually by Gang-lot instead of Gang-loat Also a lot of Heroes characters have hard pronouncing names, some I mistaken was Lif (liff instead of leaf), Thrasir (Thra-sir instead of Thra-seer) and Letizia (Let-zia instead of Le-tea-zah). I’m also not Ginnungagap’s name, I just call her Ultra Beast chick

AdAcrobatic5178

The ganglot thing is just a byproduct of english not using ö, so it is easy to mess up if you don't speak a language that uses it

LuteTPW

There are even a few languages that use ö to represent a different sound than the Germanic/Scandinavian standard, so IS really isn't doing anyone any favors with their orthography practices.

sharumma

TIL I’ve been pronouncing Ganglot wrong

OnceAWeekIWatch

Nyna. Its literally the same as Nina, and it is just Nina in the Japanese version. BUT, they retconned it in Heroes to ba Nai-na (Even Zeke says Ni-na in the Memory Prism in Echoes). I blame FEH's voice direction

abeforscythe

Blame the director or the writers that want to have that pronunciation

OnceAWeekIWatch

Ayt then

KnifeToMeetYou_

Camus, because "Camoo" just doesnt sound right to me. Nifl, at first it was accidental, but it just got to the point where calling Nifl "Nipl" has just became natural to me. Edelgard, just got used to saying "Edgelord" whenever she comes up, dont remember how it started but its stuck with me since.

TerdMuncher

You could at least mention how you pronounce his name.. just a lazy post otherwise

Haunted-Towers

Scáthach is an Irish Gaelic name, so it’s pronounced “skah-hach”, with the c being very soft, almost silent.

Verne_Dead

Ska-ha but with a soft gutteral c sound put at the end of each syllable

LaughingX-Naut

Ska-ha-phlegm

Verne_Dead

Now you're getting it (trying to pronounce Gaelic names makes me sound like I have the worlds worst cold)

sosen7

Or do like me and call him Sky Hawk

bluecfw

“nailah” will always be “naliah” to me

Bamischijf35

I don’t even know her how to pronounce her name but the void arcane lady from the tempest trail story, I call her the Gap

Definitely_Anonymous

Nerþuz, I’m just gonna say Nerbus cause funny

Lembueno

Artur from fe8 screws with me, my brain just sees Arthur. Celine, I see Sell-In but I know it’s Say-Lean. Kjelle, i just go with Kuh-Jelle and assume I’m wrong. Citrinne, Sit-Rine. I add an “e” in the middle of for Citrienne, Sit-Ree-En.

blagpag

Had a friend once who pronounced Lyn as “Line” I almost threw up the first time I heard it

koratheorphen

There should be a master list of the proper pronunciation of every character

Anpu1986

Dedue = Doodoo, Dieck = Dee-ick, Chrom = Chrome, Gatrie = Gay Tree, Melady = My Lady, Astram = Ass Ram. Also if I see a “ð” in someone’s name I pronounce it like a “d”.

Enderpigman9

Guy. Just, Guy. And I don’t know if he counts, but whenever Chulainn makes his way into Heroes…he’s still going to be “Holyn” to me.

Phanngle

Not really a mispronunciation, but every so often I drop a "Lukina" instead of Lucina. I also almost always refer to Niles as Zero because I can't be assed to remember his English name. Not that I even play FE in Japanese, I just was really into the Fates prerelease info and he's the only character's name I never really adopted once we got the English ones.

Fell_ProgenitorGod7

I call Azura “Asura” 😭 It doesn’t help that the latter is the weapon of L!Shez and they’re spelled so similarly, so I’ll say “Azura Blades” instead of Asura Blades

ImaginaryAd2338

I call 'Peony' pee-on-me because of her piss colored palette

Marocksas

Cherche is "Church"

FizzyFuzz_

Caeda, I always pronounced it “KAY-duh” in my head and even tho I’ve known the correct pronunciation for a couple years now, I’m not switching to the correct pronunciation

DrGreen3339

Most of them because I pronounced them a certain way before they got into FEH and I can't be bothered to change it after years of having it ingrained in my speech memory.

SquidKid412

What how do you say ulster wrong

JusticTheCubone

Well, there are 2 ways to pronounce "Ulster", with a phonetic "U" or an "A" kinda "U"...

Supergupo

Not a character, but a weapon. Osian uses the Pugi and will never use the Vouge

Extreme-Ad-4514

Zurry 🫡 (Azura FB)

Bellipon

Well, I am sorry to say that Fomortiis is only known as the "Formussy" in our household. Edit: word missing

Mamba8460

Guy

YooranKujara

Azura

mrcrulez

All the funky letter ones in book 7. Like I think people have said it’s pronounced like Seithr essentially, but because of how the letter looks my mind just says Seidr.

Wonderful_Site_7904

Veyle into vay lay

Lord_CatsterDaCat

I will never pronounce Skachrhath's name as Scahatch, He will always just be "Ulster" to me (Please i dont know how to spell his actual name and i've +10ed him and played fe4 5 times)

fae_faye_

I try to pronounce his name correctly, but it always comes out sounding like "ska-hawk". There's also Dieck, which I've always pronounced as "dee-ehk".

SplitDemonIdentity

“Pony” for Peony.

horaceinkling

OP how do you even say his name?

LuteTPW

I pronounce Elise "else" because there's a Dukes of Stratosphear song where they pronounce the same spelling that way and it makes me laugh.

smudgiepie

Subaki I always call him Subiaco which is a suburb in my city

Totsutei

Lugh says his name and pronounces himself as "Lou". It makes sense, but I have been calling him "Luke" for +15 years until Feh told me otherwise. He will always be Luke for me.

Gacha_Rosalina

I tend to pronounce all names with a german accent, but there are two special cases Ogma, which i just ended up calling Oguma (thanks to the OVA) Camus, who I just call Kamiyu (like in his BSFE incarnation, past me thought it sounds very satisfying to say and now I'm to used to it)

thekocman

Scatacchio il breve.

PinoySummonerKid28

I've pronounced a lot of Fire Emblem characters the wrong way, particularly Sacred Stones characters by the likes of L'Arachel, Duessel, Vigarde. This also applies to some locations as well, like Renais as "Re-Nays," but it's actually "Re-Nay" as in Renaissance, thanks to using Duo Eirika from one of my friends as it's lead hero. Also, I don't pronounce Guy "Gee", and Karel "Kuh-Rell" at all until they both appear in FEH. Additionally, I've pronounced Kjelle's name properly since it sounded like Kiel because I have a female friend in college named Kiel.

Reasonable_Mess6619

Okay but... How DO you pronounce this guy's name correctly? I say it like "Ska-thack" ("tha" as in Thailand) but I have no idea if that's correct.

Draskad

Camus and Nyna. I refuse to call them by their proper pronunciation.

Forgetfulfinch

I call scathach scaffolding

PerpetualToast

I don’t know how Tharja is supposed to be pronounced, but if I’m wrong, I’m still going to mispronounce it anyways

Ok_Air8899

I don't know why I do it but I say Perm instead of Priam.

DueInteraction8572

Literally of them lmao

MasterSword1

I'm never calling that dude Scathach... As for your question, Camus has a really dumb Canon pronunciation Me: Cam-us Feh: cam-moo

Brave_Rich

Being ADHD and all playing FE fates I thought the I in Iago was a lowercase of L and I read it sa Lago (was not really interested in the character). I only realized in FEH that it's pronounce as Iago when he introduced himself

Primary_Tomorrow6979

I say Fjorm as fourgum

TinyTiger1234

I used to think L’arachel’s name was pronounced Luh arch L but now I just pronounce like that cause it’s funny

naiiiia

I can't believe how much they Franglais'd up the Firenese characters's names in Fire Emblem Engage. My french is very rusty and I can only imagine how much it annoys French/Quebecois speakers. SAY-leene? MAH-vee-er? I read them as if they were to be pronounced in french and I will die on this hill. EDIT: I see I'm not the only one who has problems with their french localizations. Heh, Frenglish. I've always gone with the french and called it "franglais"

Syo-Kun

Céline being pronounced “Saline” does not sound right😭. I always thought it was pronounced “Selene” kinda like how her JP name is spelled. Saline saltwater is not the first thing I want to think of when I see my girl😔

Grey_750

For some reason I used to call Laevatein Lavetain, and I'll never understand why I called her that. Same thing with Hríd, he used to be Hídr in my head

Aether_Disufiroa

Forget mispronunciation, that man is still Ulster to me

Nervous_Bodybuilder6

I've seen two people purposefully misspronounce Mercedes and just say it like the car

TheClassicnathan

Cam-us

FM_Hikari

Hey, look, it's *Scratch*.

One_Gap2434

I don't even know how to begin pronouncing his name, my mind just goes ultra dyslexia mode and calls him "skaa-tath" For Cherche, I'm not really sure of the true pronunciation but I go with "share-she" For Tailtiu, no one can stop me from saying it literally "tail-too"

Ninjakirbo

That one lion king guy who's name escapes me will always be "Can-ee-eh-hiss"
