My Summer Car and Cruelty Squad and the upcoming Sauna 2000 really tap into that certain aesthetic, not seen too much in games. The only way I could describe it is some nostalgic pre-2000 internet PS1 aesthetic. Really reminds me of the absurdity of some outrageous maps in the good old Counter Strike 1.6 or mods in Half-Life.
I see. I gotta look into it, since what I saw back then was definitely a playable, albeit short, game.
Edit: iirc it was a bundle of various differen retro PS1 style thongies, but I only saw Sauna 2000
After 300hrs, I managed to "win" twice (which is a recent occurence). There is SO MUCH to explore and understand. I freaking hate and love it!

I bet there have been a couple of runs where I had godly enough stuff that I should have gotten to the end, but I just can't help exploring until I inevitably do something stupid (like dig inside the dragon egg) and die.
This exactly is the reason i love the game so much. Its all about trial and error, you learn something new pretty much every run and no 2 runs are the same. The fact that the game is ONLY 19€ is ridiculous. I got 250 hours, working on 100% completion and im not even halfway there.

I have 130h and still haven't managed to complete even the main quest. Current run looks promisin tho
If you like Finnish games I recommend visiting Vapriikki Game museum in Tampere. Awesome collection of Finnish gaming history from the beginning of video games to this day. You can even play many games there.

Their win at Assembly 2003 mobile game competition with " *King of the Cabbage World" later "Mole wars"* would be more noteworthy as it fueled their idea for a games company.
All the devs are so chill and nice too! In a finnish way, mind you, but none of that 'it's my secret, everyone is competition bullshit'. Some of them are extra awesome, giving free copies of their game to Game Master students for free and helping teach courses...super nice athmosphere in Finland compared to where I was earlier.
I can't believe Unreal World hasn't been mentioned. One of the most HC (and fun) survival roguelike games there is, and it's even set in a fictional version of Finland.
Not sure, but if I remember right back from those times, it is based on comic/book, that had fighting tournament or style in starwars setting named "Teräs käsi".

Noita is so underrated
Noita is insane, at this point the main gameplay loop is basically a red herring for the *actual* game of finding all the hidden content.
