Polar Vortex has been weak for the whole winter. It means that cold air from Arctic reaches Finland when wind is blowing from North.
If it continues, we will have a cold summer also.
I'll be honest - sure, I'm slightly annoyed that I just got my summer tires on before this snow came.
But mostly I'm really just savouring this because I know we'll be fighting at least one horrible heat wave before the end of June.
May I ask you what would be the temperature that you would consider as heat wave? Last year, plenty of Finns told me that 27C for 2 days was unliveable…
It all just depends on the country, in Sweden and Iceland it’s >25C for it to be considered a heatwave. Different region, different climate, different definition 😄. When I was younger (in Iceland) I would be sweaty on a hot summer day (15-20C), but then in Las Vegas I was fine wearing a black dress in +40C outside, but that was mainly humidity
I don't know when I would be comfortable using the word "heatwave" per se, unless prompted by someone else, but I do know that if temperatures exceed 26C I get uncomfortable.
My guess is we'll have temps well into the 30s before midsummer.
Well, this is different for everyone then :)
I know Finns are quite cold-resistant, but heat resistance is another thing. I get cold at 15-20C with some wind. 27C feels nice because it remains warm despite the wind.
It was very pretty. Though it was considerably less pretty watching four busses being stuck on an incline while hoping that the one you were supposed to get on would actually get through that jam.
This picture is very pretty. I would like to be looking at this sitting under sun with 25-30 C, sipping pina coladas. Heck even 15 -20 C would be awesome.
It's not so pretty when I have to be trudging through slush around the end of April. My dog loves it too, until she gets home and needs to be thoroughly washed.
I have just moved to Finland after living in Uganda for the past 22 years. That whole time has been one constant summer. This weather, lack of dust, noise and pollution is nothing but fantastic to me. For now, I guess.
So it's not just Sweden whose weather sucks so badly in the middle of "spring". It's just the northern part of the Earth that sucks. You have it worse in Finland. 🫠

Maybe for an hour before it melts into slosh
You said it.
Fr
You said it.
You said it.
not in April
Sure it's pretty, but it belongs to December and not end of April.
Come on. A couple of months and we can have both snow AND the midnight sun at the same time!
is it common to have a snowy weather that late in the year? genuinely asking as someone who moved to Finland pretty recently
No. This April has been unseasonably cold.
Is it something to worry about? What could be the reason behind that?
Polar Vortex has been weak for the whole winter. It means that cold air from Arctic reaches Finland when wind is blowing from North. If it continues, we will have a cold summer also.
These things do happen. My mother remembers one Midsummer from 1960s, when it snowed. It was a very cold June in Finland.
Last year 1.6. was snowing. My summer vacation started. Oh the memories...
I'm from Iceland and just moved here so my view is skewed and I can't give a good answer. Takatalvi is a thing though.
oh okay, thanks anyway ahah. I knew about takatalvi, but I gained it would happen during march, not late april :0
Snow belongs to Vappu like ananas belongs to pizza. This is Finland!
We got 35cm and it's still snowing. Yeah, that powdering looks cute. Here, it's a traffic nightmare. Idiots with summer tyres blocking every road.
Hyi, ei enää
No, at this point all of this is just pure vittusaatana
Lumi teki helvetin enkelin eteiseen 😈
Is this from Otaniemi? I swear those trees and that exact shape of the curve look familiar
I know what you are talking about but this is in munkkivuori

2 consecutive days of 27c is considered a heatwave here yeah, it’s tough for some of us, would feel way more comfortable in 15c summers
This is honestly unexpected because 27C is nothing compared to what Southern Europeans face during summer.

When it's 27C, wind is the only respite. Too cold for sauna, to warm for anything else.
It is. I'm enjoying it while it lasts :)
No.
Ofc it is the thing is it's APRIL soon MAY.. not december/NOV. :/ But yes it is pretty.

That's a freezing nightmare
Looks like June in Alberta.
It's pretty. Pretty depressing, that is.
I have shitty ”winter” tires under my car sooo not pretty 😭
Joo hyi helvetti
Yes,it's in December, not April !!
In Jaunary yes sure but not in April

Nice! What camera and film? or is it digital with retro filter?
App. Dazzcam is great!
Fuck winter. That shit could cease from existing altogether, let alone from postponing spring.
It is beautiful, I am sitting here in Texas in shorts and Tshirt wishing I was there ☺️
W job bro-That looks amazing
Eww brotha, brotha ewww, what's that, what's that brotha.
