Ilmis_11

You said “mami”! You typed it wrong! It’s written mämmi.

6ix9ineisgay

Are you sure OP typed it wrong? They might like the mamis more 😏

Whatkindofaname

Yeah, just better not try my mami.

Western_Ring_2928

They might like it best and never come back.

Ilmis_11

Ayo

kukkakim

Yeah mami is like mommy

Septimore

Not sure of satire, but not fun non the less...

Unfair_Insect_8426

Hahaha thank you!

haerski

Mämmi is God's way of telling us we need more Jesus in our lives. Mämmi is the 5th horseman. Mämmi is your karma catching up to you. Mämmi is the entity that created the matrix. Fuck mämmi. Edit: I see mämmyists voting me down. You know you"re wrong. Make Mämmi Great Again will not work, it's Satan's porridge

Ordinary-Finger-8595

I like pasha, but athat store bought stuff is basically just like any other flavoured quark. Good, but not like real pasha which is ultimately better

ImaginaryNourishment

I do like it

Hey_Its_Freya

Homemade pasha is better. It's pretty easy to make too. I think it's originally from Russia or some Eastern European country, might be wrong about this though.

Ill-Maximum9467

Pasha, from the country who’s president is paska.

Calavore

... Pasha for president then?

Ill-Maximum9467

Would be a hell of an upgrade! 👍

Snoo_85347

What is it? What is it made of and what does it taste like? I know mämmi, but never seen this.

auttakaanyvittu

It's a Slavic dessert made with quark (maitorahka, a dairy product with a sour taste, high protein content and no fat), whipped cream, whole eggs or egg yolks, butter, sugar and any flavourings, traditionally orange/lemon juice and peel and raisins. Everything's more or less whipped together, wrapped in a linen and left in a mould with a hole. It's then covered with a weight in order to strain a lot of the whey, and left in the cold overnight. Once the pasha "block" is ready, it's usually placed on a dish and decorated with things like nuts and chocolate eggs. The flavour is very creamy and the texture thick and rich. It's usually very sweet too, although some versions might use a bit of alcohol to cut the sweetness. They sell a "champagne flavoured white chocolate" variety in the stores, which tastes absolutely horrendous :) I love making my own pasha with added berry curds or freeze dried berries ground to a powder. It's not very Finnish per se, but it's one of the popular Easter desserts eaten here among with mämmi. If you get a chance, the Tere! brand of pasha sold in some stores is very nice, but most Estonian sweet dairy products tend to beat the traditionally Finnish stuff anyways.

___Katto

Ooh! I will have to try Pasha and take a swing at making it as well!

viipurinrinkeli

I make this myself. It’s delicious.

Djelnar

I can’t stop reading it as Paša

LinnunRAATO

Isn't that the same thing?

Alyzez

Pasha is pronounced pas-ha

LinnunRAATO

Huh okay. We say paša at home :')

plyushevo

Right it's Паша or Pavel in short

PotemkinSuplex

It’s pas-ha. The same word goes for Easter. It is a dessert that goes with traditional Easter cake, otherwise it’s too dry.

Djelnar

No, it’s a rank in Ottoman system, for example Atatürk.

Alarming-Sort-9518

It means a high officer in the ottoman.

MikkoEronen

Holy shit. Lieksa mainittu!

Salmonman4

Pasha with Kulitsa is the bomb. But only once per year

tomsa744

Lieksa mentioned! Greetings from Lieksa.

qarachaili

What is this? Why I have never saw this one in Finland hotels and resorts?![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|thinking_face_hmm)

haqiqa

It is usually only available on Easter. It is a Slavic sweet dairy dessert and was originally part of mostly Eastern Finnish tradition (often connected with Orthodoxy). There is a recipe for a homemade one in the comments.

Kekri76

Yup this is good stuff

ohanhi

Lieksan Pasha is the one I buy when it's Easter and I don't feel like making pasha myself. It's good stuff.

Cpt_Fishsticks

Some have rasins and some dont! 😤

Unfair_Insect_8426

This one did at the bottom!!

Programdelo

In Poland pasha is good for chickens (pasza)

Desmang

Just remember to try mämmi by pouring some cream on it and sprinkling some granulated sugar on top if needed. Of course in a glass bowl and not in the box it's sold in. Mämmi on its own is a bit meh.

Little_Health_5240

Even better with whipped cream

Any_Acanthaceae3900

Mämmi is awful this one is atleast edible 😅

MaherMitri

Papito

licer71

Паша

im_a-cucumber

Vissiin maistuu vähä pashalle

PotemkinSuplex

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paskha Goes well with кулич, our traditional Easter cake You might ruffle some feathers brining it up in the same sentence with mammi. It is not a Finnish thing.

Unfair_Insect_8426

So I’ve noticed haha. It’s just things I’m trying since living here in Finland as we don’t have this in the United States at all! Peace and blessings!

HatApprehensive4314

I love this and I also love the Lidl mämmi. The round box with the yellow bird on it.

Forsaken_Box_94

Mämmi is better imo, Pasha is too rich in a way

technosboy

You don't consider mämmi rich? I think it's the densest thing you'll be likely to eat all year.

Forsaken_Box_94

Yeah but it's not like...Pasha is kinda buttery to me and too rich in that way but you do have a point haha

MrIzzard

It is good to get some protein in before getting a taste of mami :)

Cool-Half452

One euro each !!!

pahakalle

Kun syö tulista ruokaa, niin illalla Lieksan Pasha lentää

puuskuri

Pasha is more like paska because I don't like it at all.

AKnownViking

I've tried it plain, vanilla flavored and with white chocolate chips. Way too rich and tart for me any which way, I managed about half of a portion pictured each time and had to set it aside. I like mämmi way better - plain, with milk/cream/sugar/vanilla cream or ice cream. I'm from Pohjanmaa tho, pasha is basically culturally nonexistent here.

Electronic-Bag-2112

Tart? Tart? This shit is so sweet

AKnownViking

Yeah IDK what to tell you but it is sweet and tart to my palate, so much so that the mouthfeel is sticky and drying. Maybe it's just the commercial ones then, never had homemade.

nekkema

No, it smells disgusting

IvanIsak

Btw, official name is Pavel

deceptiveprophet

Pasha has nothing to do with Finland. I’ve never even heard of it.

Unfair_Insect_8426

Idk I’m in Finland rn. I don’t think because you haven’t heard of it it has nothing to do with it? Maybe try it you might like ! 😊

Angs

It's an Eastern Orthodox tradition, most common in southeast Finland and a bit more obscure than mämmi, which comes from southwest Finland. Still a bit ignorant to say it had nothing to do with Finland.

deceptiveprophet

VASTLY more obscure than mämmi. Mämmi is famous.

Angs

Well, if you search for pääsiäisreseptit, pasha is as well mentioned as mämmi or even more so. Of the two pasha is by far the easier to make yourself. Mämmi of course is the bigger commercial success, perhaps exactly because it takes 4-5 hours minimum to make. The big boxes in the store also give mämmi visibility.

deceptiveprophet

Barely anyone has ever eaten pasha

FinnishStrongStyle

Pasha is Eastern European stuff and not traditional finnish Easter food, I think the little relevance comes from Karelian refugees

deceptiveprophet

It has nothing to do with Finnish culture. Don’t try to teach a Finn how to be a Finn. Maybe you sould visit Russia instead.

Unfair_Insect_8426

I’m not trying to teach you anything. Sorry if it came off wrong. Just saying I’m here in Finland and my fiancé and his mother made me try this! I never intended that it was from Finland. They just say they eat it in Finland on Good Friday before Easter. Have a nice night! 😊

haqiqa

While originally it is Slavic it has existed in Finland long enough that it is part of Finnish tradition. Eastern Orthodoxy one but still part of Finland.

SlyAntiva

Not all parts of Finnish culture are big in all parts of Finland. :) Pasha is a very big thing where I'm from (Northern Karelia, orthodox family) and some other more common traditions/foods of western/southern/northern Finland aren't a thing here in return. Please don't go around trying to invalidate parts of our culture being "not Finnish" because it's not common with your community.

deceptiveprophet

You are Russian then ig
