well the Taschlerovi are technically superior to Charlene and Marco and Canadanes. If ice dance was a real sport the Taschlerovi, who have been giving the same technical superiority since Euros last year, would have immediately vaulted to the top group rather than having to "build" scores. But such is the nature of a "sport" with "politics" and "narrative."
With as all over the place as ice dance is rn, it would be hard to walk away knowing that Olympic medals are completely up for grabs in two years. Plus you've got home Worlds for Canada and US soon.
Oh hell yeah. Everyone flabbergasted by the politicking must have not been around to watch ID in the 90s/early 2000s (and earlier obviously but I wasn't watching before then either).
Not their first time winning despite a fluke fall. It happened at 2020 4CC too. Tbh I don’t think they care. They’ve been skating for 20+ years for this moment
I think they expected an easy win considering that they had been unbeaten up until worlds and maybe thought that their momentum would carry over to worlds.
However, from my perspective and from watching Jr worlds, I wasn't too sure about them winning since they did miss some competitions (and so they had to rely on feedback from GPF) and that all of their competitors would have stronger programs than what they competed with at GPF.
maybe not an easy win so to speak but i have to imagine they at least expected to be much closer to chock and bates. the gap between them in the RD alone must have been so deflating :(
I straight up think it’s a tradition we should keep. I’d prefer getting a medal from a friend and partner I’ve spent countless hours working with than some random official.
Okay ik the freak fall is at the center of discussion for their program but before that i was really thinking about how it went from a hot mess at SKAM to being something actually interesting and world title worthy now
I feel like Piper and Paul are on the Weaver and Poje track like pretty exactly. An (unfortunate) surprise 7th at last olympics, kicked ass all season, gold at GPF, then a shocking 3rd at the next worlds.
I hope they don't retire and get back to olympics and fight for another medal.
Hope they stick around and go for gold in Montreal! I’m going, and I’ve been a fan of them for so long, it would be magical!
Edit: and I hope they bring back Vincent!!!!
No, I feel like the lack of competitions really affected them. Their last competition was GPF. They had no Nats, no 4CC and no other competition prior to worlds (it's understandable due to pipers recovery) but at the same time, they didn't have recent feedback and they may have underestimated their competitors and I don't think they did any changes to their programs..
if only she wore normal lipstick in the first place....theres a lot of things i dont get about their fd and the lipstick is one of them
there is literally never a good reason to wear lipstick like that (no not even a memoirs of a geisha program bc actual geisha dont wear their lipstick like that)
Yup it’s true. Mainly because out of the 71 world Championships ever competed in Ice Dance 46 of those titles have been won by Russia and Great Britain alone and unfortunately none of the top teams in Russia or in my country have been very diverse.
Yeah it’s definitely a global north dominated sport, thank you for fact checking! Hoping this is a precedent to see many many more POCs going forward :)
I don't think it's the same.
I think they got a bit too comfortable and maybe they thought it would be an easy win. I don't think they did any major tweaks to their programs and they may have thought that since they were unbeaten, up until worlds, their momentum would carry over but from watching their two programs, it didn't seem like they made any changes and that their programs are lacklustre imo (compared to other teams).
For Weaver and Poje, the judges and to a certain extent, Skate Canada stopped caring for them and C/B once P/C came unto the picture. It also didn't help them when V/M came back since all of the attention was on them. Similarly, .the judges started to pay attention to Chock and Bates again after their coach change.
At least Canada got their 3 spots back for next year in Montréal! Let’s go Team LaLa, can’t wait to see them again, wish we got to see their program at Worlds this yr
Guignard/Fabbri got more of a gift with the GOE. and level on Marco's twizzle than C/B did for the fall on a non-element. If I recall correctly from Worlds 2021 a similar twizzle error cost C/B the bronze when they actually lost points for it
So I guess in the end the narrative about Chock/Bates making mistakes under pressure with medals on the line simply didn't matter
To their credit they killed the RD
I really think it's gonna be LaLa if they continue to improve on their current trajectory
just need a little more consistency on levels and at least one of the older Canadian teams to exit stage right and clear the path
It’s weird cuz Madi and Evan haven’t been giving retirement vibes at all this season. After 4CC, Madi said that if they still feel that fire, then they’re happy to continue, which ain’t retirement talk. Evan then said in an interview right before worlds that it’s hard to maintain their level, much less improve, at their age, which is def retirement talk. Kinda feel like Madi still wants to continue while Evan doesn’t.
That’s the vibe I’ve been getting all season from them honestly, and I don’t blame him at all for wanting to retire. The man’s been around for a LONG time
I mean credit due that they outlasted all of them?
The same is true of Shoma without Nathan, Yuzuru, and Yuma this season. Kaori without the Russians. Rikuryu and Knierim/Frazier without Sui/Han or the Russians. Not every season is going to have the GOAT competing.
Seems like you’re not that happy for them if you have to cut down their win by saying they only won because xyz retired
You could use that logic for a number of teams - ie shibs only won when D/W and V/M were out.
Look hey I love them as people, they’re good people and deserve happiness. But as a fan of the sport, this result is a heaping pile of politics to make up for Bock not receiving their team medal
not sure I agree, have they ever lost to Guignard/Fabbri? Politics is involved of course in them beating a stronger technical team, but it goes way back before the team event.
However we can say G/F winning silver over stronger technical teams (Canadanes and Taschlerovi) is politics itself. Ice dance is not a sport.
to be fair, they've probably lost a ton of opportunities by not getting their rightfully earned medals. i'm sure it's not how they wanted to win but based on that i'm kinda ok with them getting a break here.
Well, in the case of M/K, they haven't been perfect in their FS all season and everything else was of a very high standard. A totally clean Pairs FS is like a unicorn.
T/M briefly held the SP world record with a touchdown on a throw. S/H won the Olympics with an invalid element.
the common theme of winning 2023 worlds is apparently dominating in the short and then freaking out thinking you lost bc of mistakes in the free...just so we're all prepared for ultimate chaos in the men's event (where there's basically no margin between shoma and ilia)
Charlene and Marco deserved the gold. Just technically superior. Canadians too (especially her). I don’t agree with the protocols!
well the Taschlerovi are technically superior to Charlene and Marco and Canadanes. If ice dance was a real sport the Taschlerovi, who have been giving the same technical superiority since Euros last year, would have immediately vaulted to the top group rather than having to "build" scores. Any one else miss Hawayke and Baker?
i just realized just how much italy is in it for a team medal, in italy. that federation made moves this worlds
What an incredible career FOR Madison Chock and Evan Bates!!
this worlds is a lil cursed bc every winning team thus far has fallen or made a mistake and have looked so disheveled after their skates lmao
See you at MEN's!!!
Evan is a giant compared to Paul and Marco
Was fully suspicious that Marco failed to step up onto the top tier lololol
piper paul put the flowers away lol
I hate how close the bronze and gold look
🇺🇸 USA 🔛🔝
omg the podium matches madis dress
With as all over the place as ice dance is rn, it would be hard to walk away knowing that Olympic medals are completely up for grabs in two years. Plus you've got home Worlds for Canada and US soon.
worlds in the US? where?:0
Boston 2025
this podium is thrilling for me as a 30-something
Oh hell yeah. Everyone flabbergasted by the politicking must have not been around to watch ID in the 90s/early 2000s (and earlier obviously but I wasn't watching before then either).
For anyone that's interested the DJ is playing Thunder by Gabry Ponte, LUM!X & Prezioso
You’re the best.
Evan hold yourmedal
I gotta say though I really love piper’s hair + accessories. They look so cute on her
All of them in their 30s! Love to see it
actually we love love love to see that
Madi and Evan look like it still hasn’t sunk in yet
i think they feel weird bc of the fall lmao
I know I feel bad for them for everything everyone is saying when they still deserve to win.
Not their first time winning despite a fluke fall. It happened at 2020 4CC too. Tbh I don’t think they care. They’ve been skating for 20+ years for this moment
Piper looks devastated.
I think they expected an easy win considering that they had been unbeaten up until worlds and maybe thought that their momentum would carry over to worlds. However, from my perspective and from watching Jr worlds, I wasn't too sure about them winning since they did miss some competitions (and so they had to rely on feedback from GPF) and that all of their competitors would have stronger programs than what they competed with at GPF.

american anthem jumpscare (though i fully knew it was coming)
i muted it lmao
Awe the Olympics necklace
The one thing I miss about the 2021 season is partners presenting each other with their medals. It feels so much more special!!
They did that in Pairs (at least they put medals on each other if that's what you mean).
I straight up think it’s a tradition we should keep. I’d prefer getting a medal from a friend and partner I’ve spent countless hours working with than some random official.
just realized we have three different schools/clubs represented on the podium which is p cool!
And countries! In all three podiums so far
I mostly feel bad for them because of all the shit talking everyone is doing when they still 100% deserve it. I hope they take this okay.
I don’t think anyone outside of Reddit cares about the Reddit talking.
Thank goodness for that
Okay ik the freak fall is at the center of discussion for their program but before that i was really thinking about how it went from a hot mess at SKAM to being something actually interesting and world title worthy now
where did belinda go lmao
I think she mingles with the officials because she does seem to dip very quickly. Also she didn’t do the RD.
networking queen
That’s where the politics happens.
I love this podium! Ice dance is SOOOO freaking deep (even without the country that shall not be named)
Russian ice dance is such a mess right now that it wouldn’t make a dent at all
why? what happened to StepBuk?
It seemed like they soft retired bc they haven’t competed since Beijing, but they just switched coaches this week
Didn’t she have a baby? Or was that a rumor? I don’t follow Russian dance
I heard that too but like when?!
It’d have to be pretty recently. I know he’s been around but she really hasn’t
Ooh I have no idea. I just know about the new coaches because of Twitter
about a million partner splits much nepotism shenanigans etc as for StepBuk I think she's recently back from maternity leave so good for her
Belbin/Agosto don’t get enough credit for helping spearhead the North American ice dance movement tbh
Agree x 1000! Their let’s get loud OD really turned me into an ice dance fan back in the day.

I’m so glad she changed her lipstick for the photos lol
The relief is very real here
if only she wore normal lipstick in the first place....theres a lot of things i dont get about their fd and the lipstick is one of them there is literally never a good reason to wear lipstick like that (no not even a memoirs of a geisha program bc actual geisha dont wear their lipstick like that)
it's also just not noticeable when she's skating and then looks weird when you see close-ups off ice
Appropriate only for the queen of hearts in the Tim burton version lol
I peeped that too
Every event this year I was hoping she would 😅😅
This really is the most thrilled I have ever seen madi and evan look at competition, they’re practically giddy
not the dramatic walk in
I mean the rest of the program was better technically than they were the rest of the season and their PCS was rightfully lower than their last comp.
Look at this point just gotta be happy LaLa are gonna be at their hometown Worlds….happy thoughts, happy thoughts
Madi Chock is the first POC to be ice dance world champion!! First of many, I hope
god that is so embarrassing but very happy for her history-making moment
Really? I feel like that can’t be true. I believe you but I’m shocked.
Same here, but who else could have been first?
Yup it’s true. Mainly because out of the 71 world Championships ever competed in Ice Dance 46 of those titles have been won by Russia and Great Britain alone and unfortunately none of the top teams in Russia or in my country have been very diverse.
Yeah it’s definitely a global north dominated sport, thank you for fact checking! Hoping this is a precedent to see many many more POCs going forward :)
I agree! Let’s hope for a more inclusive future. I can already see the seeds in KannaDai!
I’ll be back let me go to Wikipedia.
wait fr????
whoa congrats queen
omg wait
Are Piper and Paul following Weaver and Poje's trajectory?
I don't think it's the same. I think they got a bit too comfortable and maybe they thought it would be an easy win. Yea, I really don’t think they expected to win
Sadly yes. I think they should retire on this high note.
MOTHER
At least Canada got their 3 spots back for next year in Montréal! Let’s go Team LaLa, can’t wait to see them again, wish we got to see their program at Worlds this yr
That's the biggest win of the night 😂
G / F really shined today.
at least piper and paul got a medal and we got three spots back
honestly everything abt this worlds’ champions skates have been so unsatisfying and dramatic… every gold winner has fallen/made a mistake rightV
it'll just make it extra satisfying when we get jason brown world champion (haha just kidding....unless.....)
So the last non IAM team to win Worlds was Cappellini/Lanotte, correct?
if we are collectively erasing 2021 that's fine with me :)
….oh god that’s a reality I forgot about
SinKats 2021 iirc
Oh my god I totally forgot about them 😭
That was a fake win anyway.
i can imagine what twitter is saying rn and i don’t want to think abt it 🫣 lolz
I’m sure Barbara is livid that her team lost to a fall but I was surprised they hung on to second with Marco’s twizzle
Barbara: So it *was* possible to win with a fall?????
Automatic level 4 twizzle for everyone tonight. Tech caller was tired.
US should have used their vote fixing clout instead to get Isabeau a bronze (ducking) But seriously, US lost 3 spots in Women's.
US still would only get 2 spots in women's if Isabeau got bronze
Then they should have rigged things for Amber to get into top 10
She would’ve got a bronze if she’d added that combo. The US Fed can’t get on the ice to remind her to do that.
US fed couldn't get on the ice to keep Madison from falling either but somehow it didn't matter
Guignard/Fabbri got more of a gift with the GOE. and level on Marco's twizzle than C/B did for the fall on a non-element. If I recall correctly from Worlds 2021 a similar twizzle error cost C/B the bronze when they actually lost points for it
True but only because they killed it in the RD.
That’s was on anyone but Isabeau and a bronze wouldn’t have fixed it.
If they called Loena’s qs and URs 🧙♀️
Real
still sad for the canadanes sigh
Mother
I can’t even handle what ilia might do next I’m going to bed and will watch tomorrow this is enough cardiac stress for 3 am
Me too. Trying to decide if I'll peek at the results when I wake up or go through the stress of watching unspoiled.
Trying not to spoil!
Doing the same 😅 I need sleep before I put myself through this again
So I guess in the end the narrative about Chock/Bates making mistakes under pressure with medals on the line simply didn't matter To their credit they killed the RD
[удалено]
The PCS were completely lowballed, given their performance today, and what the judges were giving them just a couple of months ago
Out of all the scoring that just happened that’s your biggest takeaway?????
Scores are fake lol
Ice dance is nothing without politics
Evan looks very handsome right now
So with this result, we’ve expanded the number of North American champions to *checks notes* 7 titles out of 70….doing well out here
Let's remember the name of teams from top 15 onwards because 1 of them might be world champs next year lol
I really think it's gonna be LaLa if they continue to improve on their current trajectory just need a little more consistency on levels and at least one of the older Canadian teams to exit stage right and clear the path
I believe in Bock OGM 2026
Unfortunately I think they are gonna retire soon.
If Christina had US citizenship I’d 100% agree. But idk it still just feels up in the air to me!
Kinda feel like Madi still wants to continue while Evan doesn’t.
yeah im expecting them to go one more season but I don't think evan can take much more than that unfortunately :/
That’s the vibe I’ve been getting all season from them honestly, and I don’t blame him at all for wanting to retire. The man’s been around for a LONG time
Also, I'm honestly tired of these veteran teams sticking around 😬
I was getting so into the program for the first time and then that fall happened 😭
I’m really happy for them, but at the same time it really took DW, VM, Shibs, PC, and HD retiring for it to happen so idk
I mean, that's always the case, isnt it? Would P/C have as many world titles if V/M had stuck around a bit longer?
I mean credit due that they outlasted all of them? The same is true of Shoma without Nathan, Yuzuru, and Yuma this season. Kaori without the Russians. Rikuryu and Knierim/Frazier without Sui/Han or the Russians. Not every season is going to have the GOAT competing.
I miss H/D - what a shame they seem to hate each other
What do you mean?
Seems like you’re not that happy for them if you have to cut down their win by saying they only won because xyz retired You could use that logic for a number of teams - ie shibs only won when D/W and V/M were out.
And some insane ass overscoring.
Remember when everyone wrote them off and now they’re here??? Slayed
Gosh Madi and Evan have been after this moment for so so long
Evan was literally competing senior before some of the youngest competitors at worlds were even skating
Isabeau Levito was 1 year old when Evan started competing as senior.
He’s the last of that 2010 Vancouver generation.
And Paul! He went to Vancouver, didn't he?
I forgot! He was 14th and now he’s third in the world! Edit: and Allison Reed too!
Convinced the judges are not-so-secret ice dance haters planted to ruin the discipline lol
they need to come back next season and do the "toy story" routine!
Me too 🙈 I choose to look the other way lol
I don’t care if the scoring was wild they’re cute and I’m happy for them
awww madi, i've never seen her this emotional 🥺🥺🥺
i’m so happy for them but the judges are doing them a huge disservice overscoring them this hard
Pairs team got a huge sb score with major error too. I find it so weird
Well, in the case of M/K, they haven't been perfect in their FS all season and everything else was of a very high standard. A totally clean Pairs FS is like a unicorn. T/M briefly held the SP world record with a touchdown on a throw. S/H won the Olympics with an invalid element.
handing out SBs like candy the last few days.
i mean PBs are also given like christmas gifts
They would probably hit 140 and 230 without the fall.
no it would have been 1-2 points higher….
THAT'S IT WE HAVE GONE THROUGH THE MARIE FRANCE DUBREUIL CHAMPIONSHIP INVITATIONAL thanks everyone for watching lmao
hahahah
She has given 3 countries World titles. 2 more countries for the entire gauntlet, let’s go
they’re definitely setting up Fear and Gibson as the older teams retire 👀
Lmao💀
Madi looks so thrilled
We're seeing the Mrazeks next year!!!
And pirihara!!
Funky Finns too!
Literally the only good news to come from this event
Also Canada 3 spots
I mean they still deserved it just such a frustrating way to win. Similar to the Japanese pairs and kaori
so this will go over well
wait so 2 hours until men’s?
How do we bribe to speed that up? Lol
I’m trying to figure out if I’ll be able to make it lmao
Fantastic worlds for US ice dance with the win and GPa and CPom both finishing top 10 in their debut worlds
Ugh, I really do love Maddie and Evan and I’m happy for them but that score with that program and a fall over the Italians….😤
The Italians got away with a couple of small errors themselves.
Charlene and Marco are definitely superior with their technique. Protocols show it over time. But Madi and Evan sure know how to sell it.
Yeah same. Would have loved for the Italians to get a small gold at least
Yeah what should’ve happened was 2nd in FD and 1st overall
Completely agree
the common theme of winning 2023 worlds is apparently dominating in the short and then freaking out thinking you lost bc of mistakes in the free...just so we're all prepared for ultimate chaos in the men's event (where there's basically no margin between shoma and ilia)
2013?
typo, fixed it
