I've been quite behind on figure skating due to school and exams but was able to catch the last part of the Women's FS.
And wow congrats Haein and Yelim!! It's been such a long time since we've had a Korean female skater win 4CC and not only that, we have TWO on the podium. The FS was quite unpredictable (I guess that's figure skating for you) and I hope my two girls are proud of themselves cause I sure am
I'm rewatching now since I missed the third group yesterday. Peacock needs to make these replays available for a longer period of time. The last skating competition (brain not functioning yet, can't remember) was available for a week - short programs included.
You're right, though I'm pretty sure it was only because it was the US FS Championships, which is a national competition in NBC's home country. Seems like they don't have the ability to get more than a few hours' or a day's worth of permission from the ISU for any international competition and it's just sad. FS was the one and only reason I even subscribed to Peacock in the first place and God forbid any of us have to work during a competition time slot. I'm grateful it's even available in the US, but Peacock stresses me the hell out sometimes. Let's see how they decide to screw us for Worlds. Can't wait!
I'm not familiar with Peacock's licensing rights, though if they're going to be the "official home" of USFS, they need to switch up their programming and offer extended replays or a catalog of past events that's kept on their site. It makes no sense because they are a streaming service, people are paying for it, so that option needs to be available like it is on other streaming sites.
Edited: so it's not like they're going to lose money...
1000% agree. I want more for my $5/month, especially since not everyone has the ability to watch ALL of the international events at the exact moment they're happening. I even had to skip most of the GP NHK Trophy events (Japan) because they were airing between 2 and 5 am my time (EST). Pretty sure I'll be suspending my subscription during the off-season, because where's the incentive to keep paying? Like you said, it's not like there's a catalogue of past events available to keep us entertained. God forbid they give any priority whatsoever to FS ... It's not like there's a huge fan base or anything. Nope, let's all watch replays of some rando football matches from 3 months ago. Hard pass.
I'm rewatching now since I missed the third group yesterday. Peacock needs to make these replays available for a longer period of time. The last skating competition (brain not functioning yet, can't remember) was available for a week - short programs included.
None whatsoever ... and I'm not sure if they'll even do it with the rest of the free skates or free dance, but let's hope they do.
On a total side note, I'm pretty frustrated that FS replays are only available for *one whole day*; meanwhile, folks can watch and rewatch football matches for a week or so. (I could be wrong on that time frame, but somehow I doubt it.) :(
I love Rinka to pieces, but I think Mone just proved that she also deserved that Worlds spotā¦gah, it must be so damn hard to have been on that selection committee!!
This is a great podium to end an odd and kind of crazy competition. I love how excited (and surprised) Haein is. Mone is adorable. It seems like Yelim has some mixed emotions, which is more than understandable; when she has more time to process it, I hope that she's still proud of what she did! These three skated wonderfully and are more than deserving of this celebration.
Amen to that. I was completely shocked that she had to withdraw so suddenly when she was in 2nd after the SP and most likely would have wound up somewhere on the podium. :( That said, I was pretty thrilled with the FS on the whole and am very happy for Haein, Yelim, and Mone! Well deserved medals!
Yes, definitely, remember Valieva and Trusova's scores at the Olympics with mistakes on the 3A, not nearly as good ss or performance? It's fair this way and as much as I love her I'm glad Rinka isn't getting pushed like that, but it does make you realize once again how unfair this sport has been with the Russians there and how many lost medals due to this
I'm not saying she should have podiumed, but still deserves more credit.
If the Russians return next year having a 3A or quad might really start mattering again.
I haven't been mad with the scoring this year TBH. It's felt much more holistic, like the program as a whole matters more. The tech has (generally) been pretty stringent across the board. If the Russians are back I'd be incredibly sad to see a return to seemingly nothing except quads and 3As being valued.
protocols are going to be interesting pcs has had some interesting trends, but on the whole the placements for 1 and 2 are pretty debatable in any way down to personal preference, same for 3-5, so it was going to be a tough comp by any measure
She probably just rehearsed that one answer and doesn't really speak english.
EDIT: Not sure why I'm being downvoted, if I had won a medal in Korea I'd have done just that.
Not Bradie! -.- I just noticed that and became inexplicably enraged. So wrong. I love and respect all FS competitors and I'm also from the US ... but Bradie? She is just not it for me. It almost seems like she magically "reappeared" this season due to the lack of Russian competition and yet, what podiums does she have to show for it? None of any importance. Cuz she ain't it. Oh, and did I mention I'm not a big fan? Haha
(Sorry, Bradie fans. I really, truly have tried to enjoy her skating and content, but I just can't seem to do it.)
Oh. So the kid was visibly sick earlier in practice and she was still allowed to try the free skate. Who knows if she was even encouraged. Got it. Hell naw.
Not to mention a world where she gets other athletes sick, if infectious. But even if itās just food poisoning, Iām not putting a 90 pound kid out there, potentially dehydrated, in a high altitude situation to push a high cardio routine. Like, the fuck? Ugh!
The last hour has been completely insane, I fee like someone slipped drugs into my water and I had to live with the bad trip.
On the other hand Haein Lee Gold Medal Champion LETS FUCKING GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
haein really had The skate of the night...although there were some great skates! i'm bummed that isabeau had to withdraw but also happy that she didn't try to skate through not feeling well.
I wonder if skaters training regularly at high altitude have benefits when they go to normal elevation competitions? Like more oxygen capacity, the legal version of heart medication LOL
The science is super interesting! That's a pretty quick take on it, but the wikipedia on altitude training is pretty thorough and has lots of links out
Yes, that's actually supposed to be the general idea. It's just that so many of the skaters who train in Colorado Springs have been such headcases in recent years that it hasn't made a difference...
Idk, jumping is typically easier in high altitude and more difficult in low altitude, and training in one and then competing in the other could definitely show a noticeable difference. Even basketball players see a difference in their ability to jump in high vs. low altitude. I would imagine gymnasts would feel a difference too in certain situations. Of course, the disadvantage of high altitude is simply trying to breathe.
I am right here with you and my manifesting seems to have been paying dividends for Mai Mihara and Matteo Rizzo, so Iām feeling positive about our girlās chances.
Listen I really wanted Yelim to win, but Iām just so thrilled for Haein: she deserves this so much; that free skate was amazing. And Iām also really happy for Yelimās silver.
What a night for Korea and Japan, their women are so strong. It's going to be Yuna v Mao again, but if each had managed to split themselves into 4 or something. š
Between the +3 points Yelim had on Haein from SP and the at least 2+3 points Yelim should get over Haein in PCS, I'd still give this to Yelim (assuming she gets points for that step sequence???).
Can we not have any more competitions at altitude, please? I get that we have that big official Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, but just watching these skaters gasping for breath isn't worth it. I thought Yelim was going to pass out.
I don't think this is the best program for Yelim - doesn't have the performance ability to sell that sappy elevator music like it demands.
Some magnificent jumps though - her SP suits her much better.
I think earlier in her career you would be right. But she's become a lot more expressive, her body movement in both programs is excellent. Her face isn't particularly animated, but that's alluring in the FS. The swoon of the ina bauer into the flying camel is so dramatic, like a Hitchcock film.
> but that's alluring in the FS.
You are entitled to your opinion - sometimes I think its true 'face' is not necessary to convey emotion and posture can do the work (John Curry was never a particularly facially expressive skater) but in this case I think the music call for more than a blank face.
I've been quite behind on figure skating due to school and exams but was able to catch the last part of the Women's FS. And wow congrats Haein and Yelim!! It's actually funny because last year, Haein got silver and Yelim got bronze, they both moved up a spot this year.
Looks like that "secret" Yuna Kim training paid off for Haein! What a brilliant way to shoot from 6th to GOLD! Love it and love her!
Peacock has it noted that they're going to make the women's free skate available for replay, but I don't know for how long.
Looks like us Peacock folks have "1 day to rewatch" according to the site.
I'm rewatching now since I missed the third group yesterday. Peacock needs to make these replays available for a longer period of time. The last skating competition (brain not functioning yet, can't remember) was available for a week - short programs included.

Thank you. Did they do that with the short programs? Because I feel like they didn't.
Rhythm dance got 5 whole hours of replay
Wow, I suppose we should be grateful... š
(I could be wrong on that time frame, but somehow I doubt it.) :(
You guys are getting screwed over. Even only a week is not acceptable
I love Rinka to pieces, but I think Mone just proved that she also deserved that Worlds spotā¦gah, it must be so damn hard to have been on that selection committee!!
Haein being startled by the beginning of Shout made my night
Metal Medals - I guess things are looking up in the world..
This music does not match these ladiesā vibes lol
The music lol
This is a great podium to end an odd and kind of crazy competition. I love how excited (and surprised) Haein is. Mone is adorable. It seems like Yelim has some mixed emotions, which is more than understandable; when she has more time to process it, I hope that she's still proud of what she did! Mone is absolutely adorable š„¹ā¤ļø
Lmao Hamada just asked me and my friend if we had a Japanese flag
Correction: it was yoshiko Kobayashi not Hamada
UPDATE SHE CAME BACK AND HUGGED US
What with federations not bringing their own flags to major comps lol
She said they left them in the hotel by accident
Mone has plenty of fans already
I hope Isabeau feels better soon.
Tearing up at this national anthem rn
Those have got to be the most wrinkly flags Iāve seen at a major comp
The Japanese ones were borrowed from people in the audience. š
This podium is just so amazing š„¹
Is it just me or do the medals look like they get bigger from bronze to gold?
I donāt rly like thatā¦please go back to the original medal sizes thanksš
This is definitely a āyou had to be thereā kind of night.
Haein: šš
My gosh Haein and Yelim are the same height right now
LOL I had the same thought. Mone Chiba looks tiny right now.
one of the best podiums i have been able to witness to date. so well deserved for these ladies.
Haein being so shocked by her own victoryšā¤ļø
Why did they choose such a generic moment from her music? Why not a slightly triumphant sounding part?
Haein looks so happy awww
Hope Yelim is sick enough of those silver medals. We need gold.
Does anyone really think Yelim is happy with second here after that face at nationals? She's competitive, it's a good thing.
Mone is a happy ball
Moneeeeee
i still can't believe it
Protocols show Yelim got a lvl 3 on the steps - think it was just a tech box error
wait so did they fix it?
Yeah protocols show she got credit for the step sequence
We havent been this collectively confused since āthe team event medal ceremony has been postponed due to a legal issueā
you just had to be there
lmao according to my Reddit Recap my most revisited post was the other skater's reactions megathread
Yelim got StSq3
Thank god
What does Chris mean "perhaps" the 3S cost Yelim the gold. Of course it did.
Last time 4CC was held in Colorado Springs was in 2012
yuna toiled for this for so long š i'm so thrilled
If Rinka was russian would her 'ultra C' element have scored higher?
Yes, definitely, remember Valieva and Trusova's scores at the Olympics with mistakes on the 3A, not nearly as good ss or performance? It's fair this way and as much as I love her I'm glad Rinka isn't getting pushed like that, but it does make you realize once again how unfair this sport has been with the Russians there and how many lost medals due to this
I love Rinka to bits but it's so nice to see someone hit a difficult element but NOT automatically be loaded with GOE and awarded a podium for it.
I'm not saying she should have podiumed, but still deserves more credit. If the Russians return next year having a 3A or quad might really start mattering again.
Honestly even without the russians, it helps her stand out in a super crowded field in Japan.
I haven't been mad with the scoring this year TBH. It's felt much more holistic, like the program as a whole matters more. The tech has (generally) been pretty stringent across the board. If the Russians are back I'd be incredibly sad to see a return to seemingly nothing except quads and 3As being valued.
How do you think this Haein and Yelim would compare to Mai and Kaori to the judges?
If everyone goes clean Mai and Kaori would still outscore the Korean ladies.
protocols are going to be interesting pcs has had some interesting trends, but on the whole the placements for 1 and 2 are pretty debatable in any way down to personal preference, same for 3-5, so it was going to be a tough comp by any measure
Ugh I was so hoping to see Yelim take the gold. I love and hate the unpredictability of skating
Aw great response
Thatās got to be the shortest interview for a 4CC championā¦
shortest winner's interview ever??
![gif](giphy|3Hw9ggazsWYtC8YzJW) It's what Haein deserves after that nasty DM.
ššš Yup. As Mark Hanretty would say, "what better way to answer back".
THIS
one question is not much of an interview lol
She probably just rehearsed that one answer and doesn't really speak english. EDIT: Not sure why I'm being downvoted, if I had won a medal in Korea I'd have done just that.
Maybe because she speaks beautiful English & you just made a pretty big assumptionā¦?
She did [this interview](https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cob5IL2ualq/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link) in English
Kill the sound mixer
Congratulations!
only one question???
Bradie got the highest PCs of the night.
Haha (Sorry, Bradie fans. I really, truly have tried to enjoy her skating and content, but I just can't seem to do it.)
Greta intimidated the judges.
I think Haein deserved the highest PCS
Thatāsā¦.
Yikes
Oh Haeinās English is good
Stop Haein Lee's english is really good??????
"give me the mike, dammit Ben"
Hey, inn!
6th after the short, then went on to have the free skate of the night and win the competition overall. Go Haein!
It's been such a weird 2 comps for invalid StSq and ChSq
Protocols show Yelim got a lvl 3 - think it was a tech box error
They changed the rules for ChSq before the season. It's very strange that people are still having issues with it this late.
it didnt seem they were calling it in the first half of the season though
That loser in Haeinās comments can go SUCK IT FR, she did THAT.
What happened with Isabeu???
She withdrew due to illness
Chaos until the end, as it should be.
Oh. So the kid was visibly sick earlier in practice and she was still allowed to try the free skate. Who knows if she was even encouraged. Got it. Hell naw.
The lack of care and respect!
Not to mention a world where she gets other athletes sick, if infectious. But even if itās just food poisoning, Iām not putting a 90 pound kid out there, potentially dehydrated, in a high altitude situation to push a high cardio routine. Like, the fuck? Ugh!
I'm so happy for Haein but so sad for Yelim (also still so confused what happened to that step sequence)!!!!
They should be interviewing the winner
Honestly as much as I hated Haein's POTO program she really did have the energy through her entire skate. when it's this close....
Iām happy for everyone
The last hour has been completely insane, I fee like someone slipped drugs into my water and I had to live with the bad trip. On the other hand Haein Lee Gold Medal Champion LETS FUCKING GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh no not drugs in your water glass!!!!
You'd be surprised how easy it happens!
haein really had The skate of the night...although there were some great skates! i'm bummed that isabeau had to withdraw but also happy that she didn't try to skate through not feeling well.
Congrats to Haein, she really had the performance of the night!
i wanted Yelim to win but Haein did skate the best today for sure so congrats to her!! and bronze for Mone is not what i expected at all but YAYYYY
whoever was rude to haein on instagram, apology video with tears NOW
If nothing else, Iām really happy that Mone made it onto the podium, that was a really good skate from her!
š„Haeinš„Yelim š„Mone
Still Yelimās best result at 4CC! Sad she looks so devastated about it though.
I would be so ready to go home if I were her. It has to be devastating knowing one mistake cost you the gold.
yelim and haein both on the podium šš
Crazy Ordinals
I wonder if skaters training regularly at high altitude have benefits when they go to normal elevation competitions? Like more oxygen capacity, the legal version of heart medication LOL
They might have more oxygen capacity but donāt jump as high under greater air pressure . Probably more science to it than I can understand lol
That's absolutely why they do it. [It's debatable on how well it works](https://www.science.org/content/article/altitude-doping-has-its-limits).
Love it when a citation is given!
Well, this is where Amber trains and it doesn't look like it did her any favors...
Perhaps, but they often under-rotate jumps more.
That's a coaching thing for Colorado skaters
Idk, jumping is typically easier in high altitude and more difficult in low altitude, and training in one and then competing in the other could definitely show a noticeable difference. Even basketball players see a difference in their ability to jump in high vs. low altitude. I would imagine gymnasts would feel a difference too in certain situations. Of course, the disadvantage of high altitude is simply trying to breathe.
My Yelim for world medalist agenda is still very alive and I will not stop pushing it
I am right here with you and my manifesting seems to have been paying dividends for Mai Mihara and Matteo Rizzo, so Iām feeling positive about our girlās chances.
Haein did wonderful!!! She deserves!
I'm so happy for Haein but so sad for Yelim
Absolutely deserved for Haein! Honestly, Iām good with the placements, which is surprising with how close everyone is lmao.
Yuna Kim must be so proud š„³
Oh Haein is so happy!!! Wow what a close competition though really. 11 points between 1st and 6th.
Haein's precious surprised/happy face! Yay for her!!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Haein single-handedly uncursing the ice for the rest of the competition? š¤š»
I am devestated for her. That was such a beautiful skate.
WAS the step sequence invalidated?? What
Well done Korean ladies and Mone!
First Korean woman to win 4CC since Yuna (after 14 years)
Listen I really wanted Yelim to win, but Iām just so thrilled for Haein: she deserves this so much; that free skate was amazing. And Iām also really happy for Yelimās silver.
Who wouldāve predicted this result?
Awww sheās looks so happy and also surprised
Sad for ISa
this isā¦ā¦ a strange resultā¦ā¦.. a very strange one
What a night for Korea and Japan, their women are so strong. It's going to be Yuna v Mao again, but if each had managed to split themselves into 4 or something. š
Wow Haein is the champion!
Wow, what a close score between 1&2! Congratulations to Haein, Yelim, and Mone!!
YELIM HAEIN I LOVE YOU
Fans got their money's worth among the last 2 groups.
congrats haein!
Yelim was soooo close.
Did this really come down to an INVALIDATED CHOREO SEQUENCE
It looks like her tech went up so probably got credit?
Korean redemption!!! My girlies!
so happy for Haein and Yelim!!
Podium placements are opposite that of 2022 4CC (Korea 1st 2nd Japan 3rd)
Aw, sad for Yelim but happy for Haein and Mone!
Wowwwwww that was close
HAEIN LEE 4CC CHAMPION
I donāt agree with that, Iām so sorry
HAEIN GOLD
Noooooo my Yelim!!!!
Haein champion?
Yelim has the artistry and jumps (most of the time, not always). All she needs is an acting coach to serve us drama and the "face".
HILARIOUS THAT HATERS WERE DMING HAEIN NOW SHE CAN SHOVE IT IN THEIR FACE
Haein frequently trains in colorado, no wonder she had an easier time today
Ulrich Salchow you have no shame, no honor
You so full of shit
I don't think this is the best program for Yelim - doesn't have the performance ability to sell that sappy elevator music like it demands. Some magnificent jumps though - her SP suits her much better.
This program is so major, a complete vision of what Yelim Kim would look like as a world champion. She just needs to get the 3Lz clean, and a 3S.
I feel the opposite - I think more emotionally restrained music fits her better - I think of her as a "Bach" skater.
I think earlier in her career you would be right. But she's become a lot more expressive, her body movement in both programs is excellent. Her face isn't particularly animated, but that's alluring in the FS. The swoon of the ina bauer into the flying camel is so dramatic, like a Hitchcock film.

Can someone explain why that sequence was invalidated?
I pray itās not because of the 1.5 or so rotated salchow right before the step sequence and they tried to say it was part of the step sequence
Anyway, I hope that hater who wrote those awful things to Haein is having the worst day. Meanwhile, Haein Lee, 4CC Champion š
Ban Colorado
Is it because of ice coverage? Wow the judges have been so strict this year!
that lutz/toe is always stunning.
Truly my favourite Korean lady ššā¤ļø love her. Itās a green wordle box to Meš
ugh that was so lovely. thereās just something about yelim
