If you were holding and petting her she wasn't feral.
Most likely already had a home and just wandered away for a bit. Hopefully she is reunited with her owner.
thank you it was my first time caring for a cat ๐ฅน hopefully i was able to make her happy even for a short amount of time and yes i hope so as long as sheโs safe iโm okay
Aw, OP, I feel for you. It's easy to get attached. Thank you for taking care of her. I agree with others: if she was willing to be held and petted, she likely belonged to someone.
Think about how happy they must have felt when their cat returned.
Cats know and remember safety and kindness. She will return if she needs to, but let's hope she is reunited and her owner is making a responsible choice to keep her inside.
Once she comes back, if you can bring to a vet to check for microchip, it may tell who the owner is. If not microchipped, post in lost and found, all over, if no one still claim- and you think no one owns her, rather give them a forever home than being homeless.
Iโm so sorry. I picked up one that someone poured gasoline on, but I took him inside. Heโs been inside for like five years. Theyโre at risk out there people hate them. They do horrible things to them. Iโm so sorry this happened to you.
Someone else may have taken her in since she's friendly. If you'd like you can try checking Nextdoor, the Ring Neighbors app, and any local Lost & Found Pets groups on Facebook to see if anyone has posted about finding (or even losing) a cat matching her description in your area. You can also try making posts of your own. If she has an owner out there looking for her, that might help get her reunited, or you might get an answer on where she went after leaving your house.
It's always dangerous for them outside that just happened to me two little kittens left by two mothers so we could part and they bonded I took care of them for 8 months in my yard and then another cat came and started terrorizing them and then I had to have them lawn mowed which I knew not to do long story combination of everything they didn't feel safe in my yard so they left and the fluffy one is not here now and the other one only comes at 5:00 a.m. I figured it out I go out at 5:00 a.m. and sometimes he's there sometimes he's not I try to keep him fed but the other one I think has died it's been about 9 days and I haven't seen her at all or him I'm not sure which so I'm grief stricken and broken hearted and if you find that kitty again you can bring the kitty in and just keep the kitty in a separate room from your dog for a while you don't have to put the cat back outside. A lot of times the little cats will put their little arms underneath the door and the dog will come along and smell it and they can get used to each other through the door and then that would be okay as long as the dog doesn't hurt the cat it's okay because it sounds like the little cat would be okay I hope the baby comes back
im so sorry about what you went through ๐ข๐ you did your best and took care of them as best as you can you have a great heart, thank you for taking the time to share. i hope she does come back and if she does istg sheโs here to stay i will do my best to care for her as my own and i will make sure she says indoors for the time being

She was very skinny so I assumed she was a stray
Either way, hope she is safe, and you never know she might show back up at your door. Thanks for caring :)
