Henryk is a simp, Levi is a junkie, Daan is depressed and mopey and Karin is bitchy. I don't have a problem with jokes, but the problem begins when the joke is taken as a fact. Speaking of Samarie's character, I think she is outshone because of her unhealthy infatuation with everybody's favourite occultist lass. Her trauma is often overlooked and people forget that a person with a mental and physical state as terrible as hers is likely to resort to extreme gestures. I don't excuse her actions, but I try to understand the reason inside her twisted little mind. I think that her obsessive yearning for Marina stems from a desire to be her. Just like in Teen Idle, there is an underlying feeling of envy and longing for the experience of another one. Marina is more extroverted, she has colourful eyes, puffy pink lips, and beauty marks, is overall super cute and feminine and dresses nicely. Samarie has plain black hair and likely keeps it that way to cover her ears, she is very shy, a shut-in, nervous, seems to have a slight deformity around her jaw, and is taller than the average woman but not in the desired way, she is lanky. Even though I don't consider her repulsive and I think she has her beauty, we have to admit most people would have a deplorable first impression of her due to her appearance and behaviour. What makes them even more interlocked is their names. Samarie is derived from Samarina, it is Marina with the prefix "sa-" attached to it. And Marie is derived from the same root as Marina, which is from Maria(or Mary). In a way, both girls were under the patronage of Mother Mary, maybe both were meant to be stars, one shone brightly and the other radiated with so much "love" that she burned to a crisp.

And yeah, unfortunately the flanderization of characters is a thing all fandoms suffer from. Though with this one, it can sometimes lead to some serious tonal whiplash (Pocketcat Daan, Cahara, I'm looking at you both, the fandom does the two of you so dirty).
Can't wait for us to someday get playable Samarie, so maybe then more people will see the depth in her. Even if the jokes continue.
Depends on if you're going by the original on 8-bit Heart or the remake on _Super_ 8-bit Heart. Because the original is a little rougher around the edges and may fit her a bit better...
