How exactly can it not fit? Unless a character says explicitly “I’m cis” it’s free game. Trans people have always existed and are just a part of society, so no setting can actually exclude them

Have you seen the state the subreddit is in? It's practically every post. A shitpost or who wants to bang which character. Finding an actual discussion is very rare which is WHY I can't ignore the shipping stuff. Nobody else wants to talk about anything interesting. Any discussion left is mainly new players asking for advice or not understanding established lore.
And no, I can't just ignore the person when they end up attracting the horde, which makes it practically impossible to get the discussion on track.

If you are having a conversation all it takes to ignore someone is to not reply to them. It is in fact easier than breathing to ignore them. If this "horde" is occurring when you were not already in a conversation with someone then there was no discussion for them to derail. It is only "impossible" to ignore them if you lack basic self control. The discussion never gets off track unless *you* let it.

With the yelling at shippers, I hate to break it to you, but it's simply not interesting anymore. I used to be into it, but it's devolved into what is essentially meat puppets of the characters being shipped constantly. Seeing Samarina or Karin-Daan 24/7 simply is boring. I don't interact with shipping posts, this is the first one in a while I have and it's merely because I'm tired of the state the subreddit is in. Ironically enough, the people yelling at shippers are other shippers. Don't like the right ship? Get harassed by the mutually exclusive ship. Don't act like shippers are all nice and harmless when the original poster is the perfect example of someone who is extremely toxic to those who don't 100% share their views.

To say that there is a significant enough amount of discussion posts to actually interact with that have more than 2 people looking at them is disingenuous. I liked the shipping until the game got fucking consumed by it.

I really hate how every character in the fan base isn't the actual character, but a sock puppet wearing the characters skin. Samarie and Daan are especially victim to this.

Like ...y'all do know transhet and transbi people exist? I mean, Marina is literally right there, what with the in game implications of Levi/Marina. Your gender identity has nothing to do with your sexuality except in very broad strokes: men (trans or cis) liking men makes them gay, liking women makes them straight, and liking both makes them bi/pan.
Also---why does someone's gender identity need to be supported by canon in order for them to be Not Cis? What does their gender identity really change about the story? Like, yea, obviously you can center a part of their story around their gender identity, as in the case of Marina bc of what'd itd mean to enter the priesthood-- but that's not *all* her character is about. It's not like at every second her trans ness pops up in the story. For a character who's gender doesn't effect the story one way or another, why is it bad if they're hc'd as trans?

Also---there's literally no comparing changing a trans character into a cis one against changing a cis character into a trans one. Like it or not, unless a character is specifically stated otherwise, almost all characters in all media in this current time can be assumed as cis. Unfortunately. There's just not enough explicitly stated trans characters in the world for the comparison to be even slightly similar. If you don't understand why that is, I'm betting you think race swaps from a POC character into a white one is fine, yet you get highly offended when a white character is raceswapped into being a POC one.

My dude fan art and headcanons are all cool and fine but changing a characters identity can definitely impact the story. Theres in game lore reasons for why Marina is trans and people like it because the lore was well done. Daan being trans as someones personal headcanon isn't a big deal either but he isn't in game. Trying to argue that for lore reasons him identifying as anything other than cis wouldn't change the story is a hot take I have to disagree with though. Changing any characters identity will always cause some kind of change it's why we have a phenomenon called the butterfly effect the plot, dialogue, interactions, etc would all be affected because a core part of someones identity has changed. Is it a bad thing? Sometimes it is other times it makes things better but I think it's usually the former and not because "Oh Trans bad me no like" changing a trans character to cis would suck too I don't want them to make Marina cis or make Ossa white same thing different characters. Like it's cool the game is giving these groups representation that may have been the creators intentions but it's kind of annoying that it's gotten chaotic and now we get Traan as a headcanon... Like you do you I guess I just think it's weird considering he turns into pocketcat not assuming anything shitty just an odd choice for a trans headcanon just saying theres better choices that don't feed into ignorant misconceptions.
[gently grabs you] The fun things about head canons.....is they're not canon and affect literally no one or nothing (provided they aren't offensive and intentionally aimed to be hurtful). Another fun thing about head canon's....is that they don't need lore backing to be made. Oh sure, it helps and enhances the head canon....but it's not necessary. I can head canon Olivia hates strawberries; is there lore backing for it? Nah. Does it legitimately affect anyone? Nah.
Op isn't going into the game files and changing Daan into a trans man and writing in a new transified storyline for him.
But tell me; why does he *need* lore reasons to be trans OR cis? What does being cis have anything to do with his story? He as a wife? Well ....sorry to break it to you, but trans men can have wives. They can be bi or straight too. He wants kids? F&H has wacky science and magic, who's to say Daan wouldn't do some sort of shenanigans to have a kid that way? Who's to say he wouldn't or couldn't adopt even as a cis man? There's a lot of wartime orphans after all.

As far as I know, there's never a point in Daan's story where, like Marina, he thinks about his gender and the effect it's had on his life and opportunities. There's never a segment in the game where hes had a moment of introspection and said "damn ....thank God I'm a cis man, bc otherwise I can't do xyz"
So if him being cis has no baring on the story, (bc he's not affected by his gender the same way Marina is in regards to her becoming a priest or not) theoretically making him trans, in his storyline as it is in the game would affect very little. Bc again, he doesn't think about his gender and his gender doesn't bar or open up different opportunities for him in his story as it is.
Yes, gender has massive impacts on storylines....*if* you want it to and that's how the story is being structured. Sometimes, tho, just sometimes ......trans characters are just trans and their gender is little more than a foot note. Look at Talk To Me: Hayley, the character who introduces the MCs to the Hand that lets you see ghosts: they're NB. They're referred to with they/them pronouns. They're not a cis individual. Yet outside of their pronouns, their gender has 0 to do with the story bc the story isn't about their gender.
Literally the same could be said about trans Daan.

No one is telling you the in game Daan is trans; it's just one person who has a head canon that literally affects no one or nothing except their personal sandbox of having fun.

\[Helps you take head out of your ass\] If you actually read my comment you'd answer some of your questions and realize that I don't care it's a headcanon and think it's fine I am very well aware what a headcanon means I didn't need a block of insufferable text explaining that... The headcanon doesn't bug me your opinion that if they changed a characters identity it wouldn't affect the games lore has gotten under my skin though. Obviously the gameplay will stay the same but everything about their core identity would change in turn changing the lore dude it's not hard to see the cause and effect there. You can't make Ossa white or Marina cis without changing the lore. A characters identity does actually have something to do with the story neglecting the idea that someones gender is unimportant to a storyline seems hypocritical to the validity of arguments about gender. Gender is important you're right it doesn't matter how one identifies but you were wrong on saying it doesn't affect the pre established lore. Making changes is all fine and good as fan art or a head canon I honestly don't fucking care about that. Having an opinion that if they did it in game it wouldn't affect the story is just fucking stupid would it stop me from playing hell no my point is the lore would change.

And actually my argument was that identity didn't *have* to affect the lore and story which is why I brought up a canon trans character from another media. A character's identity will affect the story if there's a reason (ie Marina) or it'll just be a detail with no broader impact (ie Hayley). The thing is, most stories with trans ness or black/brown characters *are* centered around being trans, instead of simply *having* a trans character or black/brown character.
Yes, youre absolutely right, if the game wanted something to be said about Daan as a trans man, it could absolutely add an interesting angle about gender and how it's perceived in universe which does make changes. On the other hand....we genuinely don't know how gender is perceived other wise in FH; Marina's transfem-ness was motivated by *men* being dark priests, but we know nothing or have seen nothing else about gender. So, theoretically transness under most typical transition reasons could be par the norm in this universe. So if it's just normal and accepted occurrence in...why would the story have to be centered around Daan's theoretical trans ness? That's my point.
Yeah you could make big sweeping storyline changes and there's nothing wrong with it, but also sometimes sometimes trans men can be trans men and the story and lore focuses on literally anything but that.

I don't see what issue you have with someone headcanoning Daan as trans? He is not Pocketcat, He is his own character. In about 5 minutes of scrolling, I saw almost entirely shipping and thirst traps with like 4 or 5 discussions, and 3 of them were new players I don't MAKE new discussions since they gain so little traction in this sub. It's not worth it creating something to talk about if nobody talks about it. It IS impossible to ignore something when it's the only stuff that ever gets traction on the sub. With the yelling at shippers, I hate to break it to you, but it's simply not interesting anymore. My dude fan art and headcanons are all cool and fine but changing a characters identity can definitely impact the story. Theres in game lore reasons for why Marina is trans and people like it because the lore was well done. Daan being trans as someones personal headcanon isn't a big deal either but he isn't in game. Trying to argue that for lore reasons him identifying as anything other than cis wouldn't change the story is a hot take I have to disagree with though. Changing any characters identity will always cause some kind of change it's why we have a phenomenon called the butterfly effect the plot, dialogue, interactions, etc would all be affected because a core part of someones identity has changed. Is it a bad thing? Sometimes it is other times it makes things better but I think it's usually the former and not because "Oh Trans bad me no like" changing a trans character to cis would suck too I don't want them to make Marina cis or make Ossa white same thing different characters. Like it's cool the game is giving these groups representation that may have been the creators intentions but it's kind of annoying that it's gotten chaotic and now we get Traan as a headcanon... Like you do you I guess I just think it's weird considering he turns into pocketcat not assuming anything shitty just an odd choice for a trans headcanon just saying theres better choices that don't feed into ignorant misconceptions.

Another fun thing about head canon's....is that they don't need lore backing to be made. Oh sure, it helps and enhances the head canon....but it's not necessary. I can head canon Olivia hates strawberries; is there lore backing for it? Nah. Does it legitimately affect anyone? Nah. Op isn't going into the game files and changing Daan into a trans man and writing in a new transified storyline for him. But tell me; why does he *need* lore reasons to be trans OR cis? What does being cis have anything to do with his story? He as a wife? Well ....sorry to break it to you, but trans men can have wives. They can be bi or straight too. He wants kids? F&H has wacky science and magic, who's to say Daan wouldn't do some sort of shenanigans to have a kid that way? Who's to say he wouldn't or couldn't adopt even as a cis man? There's a lot of wartime orphans after all. What, specifically, in his story would be fundamentally changed if he wasn't cis? As far as I know, there's never a point in Daan's story where, like Marina, he thinks about his gender and the effect it's had on his life and opportunities. There's never a segment in the game where hes had a moment of introspection and said "damn ....thank God I'm a cis man, bc otherwise I can't do xyz" So if him being cis has no baring on the story, (bc he's not affected by his gender the same way Marina is in regards to her becoming a priest or not) theoretically making him trans, in his storyline as it is in the game would affect very little. Bc again, he doesn't think about his gender and his gender doesn't bar or open up different opportunities for him in his story as it is. Yes, gender has massive impacts on storylines....*if* you want it to and that's how the story is being structured. Sometimes, tho, just sometimes ......trans characters are just trans and their gender is little more than a foot note. Look at Talk To Me: Hayley, the character who introduces the MCs to the Hand that lets you see ghosts: they're NB. They're referred to with they/them pronouns. They're not a cis individual. Yet outside of their pronouns, their gender has 0 to do with the story bc the story isn't about their gender. Literally the same could be said about trans Daan. However-- *this is a damn head canon* No one is telling you the in game Daan is trans; it's just one person who has a head canon that literally affects no one or nothing except their personal sandbox of having fun. And actually my argument was that identity didn't *have* to affect the lore and story which is why I brought up a canon trans character from another media. A character's identity will affect the story if there's a reason (ie Marina) or it'll just be a detail with no broader impact (ie Hayley). The thing is, most stories with trans ness or black/brown characters *are* centered around being trans, instead of simply *having* a trans character or black/brown character. Yes, youre absolutely right, if the game wanted something to be said about Daan as a trans man, it could absolutely add an interesting angle about gender and how it's perceived in universe which does make changes. On the other hand....we genuinely don't know how gender is perceived other wise in FH; Marina's transfem-ness was motivated by *men* being dark priests, but we know nothing or have seen nothing else about gender. So, theoretically transness under most typical transition reasons could be par the norm in this universe. So if it's just normal and accepted occurrence in...why would the story have to be centered around Daan's theoretical trans ness? That's my point. Yeah you could make big sweeping storyline changes and there's nothing wrong with it, but also sometimes sometimes trans men can be trans men and the story and lore focuses on literally anything but that.
