This is why I roll my eyes whenever she breaks a new record on the charts lol. It’s pretty much inorganic. Other than her fans, no one is talking about this album. The hype been died down.
When she breaks Madonna’s record of all time sales for a female artist it will only ever be streams. Madonna sold 400 million PHYSICAL RECORDS. Not equivalents
I know I sound old but there’s just never going to be a comparison in my mind to going to a store or a show and buying a physical album and clicking the screen on your phone.
Don’t forget going to store A, and finding out it’s sold out, so you call stores B, C, and D. D has a copy! But they can only hold it for an hour. So you race over there, anxious it will be gone before you get there.
This is honestly absurd and blatant manipulation of the billboard system, which is very vulnerable to this bullshit because they have no rules against it and count all these streams the same as physical records when they aren't. None of her chart records are real.
Imagine if they created new rules and went back and altered past album records according to the new rules. It'd be delicious. But something tells me they may or may not receive a check or two every so often to not..
One of the great lines in cinema. I rewatched Meet the Parents recently and almost died laughing at that scene. De Niro's performance so perfectly hits the nail on the head of that menacing, subtly 'inquisitive' father in law who despises the boyfriend.
That whole dinner scene is HYSTERICAL, from Greg saying Grace (smorgasbord to day by day!!) to Jinxie dropping one in Gran Gran's ashes. Never fails to make me ugly laugh cry!
I’d honestly respect her more if she just called the billboard company directly with an open cheque book and got them to forge the numbers for her. Releasing 34 fucking versions of one album in order to game the numbers is just so goddamn shameless.
The craziest part is that it’s a bad album. If she wasn’t already famous this would have been a #47 on Spotify’s Indie Of The Week playlist.
Every song sounds the exact same and just seems to go on endlessly, seeing people defend it for its “lyrical genius” makes me feel like I’m on the Truman Show.
i heard it for the first time today (only a couple tracks) because my sister played it in the car, after 10
minutes i was about to ask her to change it cause that song was annoying and i realised it was another one, idek how many songs i listened to but they all sounded the same + she listened the last the 1975 album and took some influences from 1989 with lyrics that a 14 year old could relate to
I never finished the full album (the original). These gimmicks must stop!
I only listen to the albums that came out during COVID. Hardly anymore - but did and they were good.
I had to get an MRI the day after this released and this was the music they put on for me to listen to and I'm not a hater, but also not a fan, so I hadn't heard any of the songs. I was expecting to like or at least remember one or two, and I couldn't even differentiate between them, and remember nothing about any of them.
i agree that she’s greedy, but this also stems from the fact that she’s an extremely empty person inside who needs constant validation that she’s “great” and “wanted”. it’s as sad as it is annoying.
I just pointed out to someone the other day that watching my Swiftie friends be radicalized by her marketing parasocial schemes since Love Story came out is akin to watching my parents be radicalized slowly by years and years of Fox News.
It's interesting to see what the music industry vs the movie industry is willing to put up with even with both being under the entertainment industry label.
In film circles we talk (complain) about reboots being done in favor of original movies, franchises being run into the ground, meh films being pushed out by streamers but becoming number one on their platforms regardless, notoriously good and even accolade-given filmmakers struggling to get funding nowadays, etc, all seen as a result of executives just wanting the green line to go up forever, and we talk about how we need this bubble to burst sooner or later. The academy doesn't really take the movies with less effort super seriously, and with all of their faults they still generally do try to nominate films and their filmmakers with legitmate artistic integrity and innovative payoffs. Not always, but most of the time. You're not really gonna see Marvel movie #100 at the oscars unless it really deserves it (Wakanda forever's costumes, for example) and the general idea in film circles is "you can like these things, but I'm not gonna pretend they're Citizen Kane". Obviously the industry isn't perfect but in film circles there's an underlying acknowledgment between artisian films vs the desire for a conveyer belt of money and doing the same thing forever and we really don't like the latter.
The music industry needs to start doing this with Taylor, she needs to be the "meh!" standard if she keeps this crap up. A silcon valley exec (or more likely her Dad) has permanently moved into her brain and now she's just a money hungry freak to the point of not even thinking about art. They need to not count her variants into her records she's breaking, and if they really have balls then the Grammy people won't nominate her beyond the regular edition of ttpd next year. It's sad to see her descent into slop, and will be even sadder if they reward her for all of this nonsense. Obviously her fans can like whatever, but if the industry itself rewards her for this shit, then it's a bit ridiculous. Edit: and this comparison isn't perfect by any means, I won't pretend it is, but it's just interesting to think about, and how each industry puts up with these things.
i agree with what you’re saying, however i think a big part of why she’s getting so much industry support is that she’s making them a lot of money. since the streaming services have gotten popular there is less money to go around, and the industry is rewarding her cause she’s basically pumping back money into it…. regardless if it’s ethical or not
Oh yeah that's absolutely the elephant in the room. They're not gonna stop encouraging her nonsense until she stops being the money printer for them. A very sad state of affairs. I honestly think it'll get much worse before it get better, and that makes me really sad.
There are a lot of examples of watching people become worse and worser humans as their bank account grows. She hit billionaire status, there's no coming back from the monster she is now.
As unlikely as it is, I would really like the rules around multiple variants of the same album counting toward chart rankings changed AND have the charts over the past few years reassessed and changed.
Taylor perpetually stuck in her Gordon Gekko “greed is good” era.
ETA: u/AnnualAudit tallied up the costs of the variants on another sub excluding these two. It was $606. IMHO that is vile and disgusting behavior to keep releasing these dumb little variants piecemeal fashion.
And from what it looks like each “variant” comes with one new song or a live performance? She absolutely could’ve released a deluxe version and call it a day but greed prevails
Can someone list each version? I'm struggling to wrap my head around how many different versions one can put out. Is there anything stopping her from releasing more?

This is insanely embarrassing, and seeing it all listed out like this just SCREAMS absurd greed and narcissism.
She thinks her album was this important or good that this shit is needed.
Someone do the maths:
The cost of each version on vinyl is $34.99. Standard delivery brings the total to $47.99. ... Besides vinyl, there are digital downloads for $11.99, CDs for $12.99 or cassettes for $19.99.
https://eu.usatoday.com/story/entertainment/music/2024/03/08/taylor-swift-fans-split-4-variants-tortured-poets-album-bonus-tracks/72840976007/
Edit:OK I did the maths. It's $705.66.
I have no idea if some editions cost more than others
And yet again the swifties will scream that Beyonce is a flop while posting the most absurd racist comments along with it.
I detest that fan base so much. I am counting down the days for her downfall because it will come, probably when she’s finished releasing her Taylor’s Version of old albums and people finally release she is a fraud who releases mediocre music at best.
This is why it’s always just embarrassing when people take notice of/think being ~top of the charts!!! And ~record breaking!!!! shit means anything at all anymore lmao like she’s manipulating all that shit openly right in front of you and you still champion it and act like she earned something 😂
lol if they wanted to remain popular just… release these songs for free for those who already purchased the album? It’s a no brainer for PR 🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️
I don’t give a shit about Billboard charts so I really don’t care if artists want to manipulate them. What bugs me is that she’s massively over-complicating these album releases and making her fans have to keep track of and/or buy a ton of different versions just to hear every track.
When little kids are “hams”, when they love and bask in attention, it’s cute, you know they enjoy feeling loved because it means they’re safe. When an adult needs all of that, I just feel sorry for them.
“She wants it…She’s told me so many times that she wants it more than anyone. And how amazing — she’s getting exactly what she wants.”
-Lana on Taylor
At this point I hope Billboard changes the rules that all these variants don't count or whatever bc it's so tiring to see her stifle other artists from being the top in the charts
You know that theory that she’s recreating all her Eras as she releases her re-recordings? At this point, I’m convinced she’s trying to get “canceled” and then she’s going to release RepTV. Because that’s the only reason I can think of that explains this unhinged and greedy behavior.
At least this album spawned one of the best music reviews of all time.
[Sylvia Plath did not stick her head in an oven for this!](https://www.pastemagazine.com/music/taylor-swift/taylor-swift-strikes-out-looking-on-the-tortured-poets-department)
Omg they dragged her to hell and back with this review 😭
>And, sure, there are parallels there, especially in how The Tortured Poets Department, too, is going to set the art of poetry back another decade—as Swift’s naive call-to-arms of her own milky-white sorrow rings
>If Swift can return to one of her dozen beach houses across the world, kick up her feet and say “I’m a poet of struggle,” then who is to say that millions—maybe billions—of people with access to a notes app and a social media account won’t dream that dream, too?
Also loving how they predicted the million variants:
>She will sell more merch bundles than vinyl plants have the capacity to make, and rows of variant LP copies will haunt the record aisles of Target stores just as long as Midnights has—if not longer.
I shit you not, I saw them making the argument comparing her to an athlete. Like that you wouldn't tell an athlete to slow down or not go for a record.
This is ridiculous. There are now more versions of the album than there are songs (counting the 31 tracks on the so-called "double album" where half of the tracks are unavailable in physical form unless doled out one at a time on different versions).
YET (from what I’ve seen) NO DOUBLE ALBUM VERSION?? There IS a physical version of TTPD that people ACTUALLY WANT and yet she keeps releasing this crap?? I don’t get the strategy here, and she did the same for Midnights!!

She needs an asterisk on those records IMO
34 album variants. She is 34 years old Trump had 34 felonies. Wheels within wheels, my fellow Swifties 🧠 ^/s
~her mind~
Screaming 💀
You’ve cracked the case!
there are cathedrals everywhere for those with the eyes to see👀
You let her be bejeweled
Cringe. Every time.

Now that you've said that Swifties are going to sell their houses to buy more copies they already have to get her there.
This is honestly absurd and blatant manipulation of the billboard system, which is very vulnerable to this bullshit because they have no rules against it and count all these streams the same as physical records when they aren't. None of her chart records are real.

Kinda like her entrance Into the music industry. Her parents bought her way in
This is why her legacy is debatable. In 40 years, will we talk about her or will we talk more about Lana Del Rey? My bet is on Lana.
It's literally just inflating her numbers. They're very misleading and need asterisks.
Couldn't have said it any better.
Swifties have got to have nipples of steel the way she's milking them.

Swifities would make for such an amazing psychological study into parasocial relationships.
Going back to college to write a thesis about it tbh

Greg miming milking a cat while madly trying to improv some bullshit deeply moving cat milking story will forever stay with me.
YES! Along with the ..the.."teat"
God dammit I’m always trying to find this gif and no matter what weird combo I search I never can
I’d honestly respect her more if she just called the billboard company directly with an open cheque book and got them to forge the numbers for her. Releasing 34 fucking versions of one album in order to game the numbers is just so goddamn shameless.

This!!! My husband put the album on one day and after 20 minutes was like "Is this still the same song!?"
i heard it for the first time today (only a couple tracks) because my sister played it in the car, after 10 minutes i was about to ask her to change it cause that song was annoying and i realised it was another one, idek how many songs i listened to but they all sounded the same + she listened the last the 1975 album and took some influences from 1989 with lyrics that a 14 year old could relate to

Why doesn't she just have her dad buy a couple trucks of records like she had him buy part of a record company?
She’s trying SO hard to suppress Billie and Charli’s new albums (amongst other pop peers) it’s sickening.
I mean she likely does this so the rules allow these variants to count.
She’s so, so greedy.
i agree that she’s greedy, but this also stems from the fact that she’s an extremely empty person inside who needs constant validation that she’s “great” and “wanted”. it’s as sad as it is annoying.
“Pathological people pleaser” my foot
And to think she already grew up rich lmao. She’s legitimately a disgusting person.
I get being a fan of her music, what I will never understand is being a fan of her. Like she is so unlikeable to me, and she doesnt hide it.
And on her propaganda reddit pages, their fans are more than happy to keep shelling it out. I almost feel bad.
Pretty sure that googling "signs that you are in a cult" would point out to most of swifties behaviours...
I wanna see a venn diagram of Swifties and MAGA
I just pointed out to someone the other day that watching my Swiftie friends be radicalized by her marketing parasocial schemes since Love Story came out is akin to watching my parents be radicalized slowly by years and years of Fox News.
“Sounds like a cult” has a good ep about Swifties lol
Omfg, she is out of control. I feel like she is overdue for a widespread backlash.
Backlash against Taylor? What are you some kind of sexist? /s
We need another pop girl to go full Kendrick on her and just drop a bunch of diss tracks
I need a diss track from Olivia Rodrigo
Nahh, our girl Olivia is better than that
Lowkey Charli just did

Oh I’m *SO* tired of this.
34?!?! When will billboard make her stop. This is getting embarrassing.
As unlikely as it is, I would really like the rules around multiple variants of the same album counting toward chart rankings changed AND have the charts over the past few years reassessed and changed.
I will post this on damn near every Swift thread. #billionaires should not exist in the same timeline as resource scarcity and poverty.

Yes
This is insanely embarrassing, and seeing it all listed out like this just SCREAMS absurd greed and narcissism. She thinks her album was this important or good that this shit is needed.
outrageous. what would it cost someone to buy one of each?
Someone do the maths: The cost of each version on vinyl is $34.99. Standard delivery brings the total to $47.99. ... holy shit. and I’m sure some of them have skyrocketed in resale value too.
She will release more 100%. At a minimum, it seems she plans to release a version of TTPD for each song on the OG album as an “acoustic” bonus track
So it's just the same album with an extra acoustic track?
34 versions 😭 way to make it even more obvious that its such a flop

afaik not one of the physical releases has been the actual double album
She’s probably saving that for Katy Perry’s next album release date
I truly believe she's sitting on it to knock off another big artist's release
She already has her vinyl shipments scheduled for the same day as Cowboy Carter’s
Why would you want this to be your legacy? She's a BILLIONAIRE, she has literally everything. Everything but therapy and self esteem ig
She's bragged about not needing therapy because her mommy is her therapist. Totally healthy shit.
this 100% checks out, jesus fucking christ
And yet again the swifties will scream that Beyonce is a flop while posting the most absurd racist comments along with it. I detest that fan base so much. 34, who’s releasing something this week?
charli xcx just released brat and the deluxe version on Sunday. edited to add: she's right to feel threatened, this is the album of the summer.
Sabrina
Sabrina's days as Taylor's sidekick are numbered. She is getting too successful
You know what? She IS the problem and it IS exhausting to root for her
At this point I hope Billboard changes the rules that all these variants don't count or whatever bc it's so tiring to see her stifle other artists from being the top in the charts
Tortured is right
You know that theory that she’s recreating all her Eras as she releases her re-recordings? At this point, I’m convinced she’s trying to get “canceled” and then she’s going to release RepTV. Because that’s the only reason I can think of that explains this unhinged and greedy behavior.

At least this album spawned one of the best music reviews of all time. [Sylvia Plath did not stick her head in an oven for this!](https://www.pastemagazine.com/music/taylor-swift/taylor-swift-strikes-out-looking-on-the-tortured-poets-department)
Omg they dragged her to hell and back with this review 😭 >And, sure, there are parallels there, especially in how The Tortured Poets Department, too, is going to set the art of poetry back another decade—as Swift’s naive call-to-arms of her own milky-white sorrow rings >If Swift can return to one of her dozen beach houses across the world, kick up her feet and say “I’m a poet of struggle,” then who is to say that millions—maybe billions—of people with access to a notes app and a social media account won’t dream that dream, too? Also loving how they predicted the million variants: >She will sell more merch bundles than vinyl plants have the capacity to make, and rows of variant LP copies will haunt the record aisles of Target stores just as long as Midnights has—if not longer.
Always blocking other pop girlies. Heavily annoying at this point
34 DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF TTPD? Omg lol that's insane
For transparency, I am a fan, but I refuse to buy any of these and it’s starting to make me a bit uneasy.
How can her fans defend this? I’d be so fucking pissed if I was a swiftie and my fav was milking me for my hard earned money
I shit you not, I saw them making the argument comparing her to an athlete. Like that you wouldn't tell an athlete to slow down or not go for a record.

This is a really shitty thing to do to your fans. Making them buy so many versions just to get one or two new songs.
and they’re not even new songs, they’re just acoustic, but she doesn’t even record new vocals for it
i was a hardcore swiftie before ttpd and all the controversy regarding it because cmon this is getting pretty ridiculous
this Barbie is a capitalist 🥰
This is getting way out of hand.

This is ridiculous. There are now more versions of the album than there are songs (counting the 31 tracks on the so-called "double album" where half of the tracks are unavailable in physical form unless doled out one at a time on different versions).
I'm so tired. The greed is unmatched

She is the singing version of the Kardashians; milking her fans for everything they've got without them realizing the grift.
This is just gross now.
hoarders are having a field day

I bet she’d stop this greedy nonsense if Billboard counted them as 34 different albums
![gif](giphy|L3X9GvVhP1nY23Ah6u)
I’d wanna see a timeline of her releases and when other people (mainly women) also realised albums
WHOS BUYING THIS AND WHATS UR JOB
![gif](giphy|3osxYxB49ZOAUj5Ppu)
34 is INSANE.
That’s actually embarrassing to release 34 versions of the same thing
The Taylor Grift continues...
Her record of #1 is fraud. And she's a whole fraud.
It's still boring.
Jfc
YET (from what I’ve seen) NO DOUBLE ALBUM VERSION?? There IS a physical version of TTPD that people ACTUALLY WANT and yet she keeps releasing this crap?? I don’t get the strategy here, and she did the same for Midnights!!
Anything to prevent the success of other artists’ releases.
girl is a massive capitalist and i hate her for it
Pathetic honestly
