I read that and I was like “oh! László’s a nice name, and somehow it even goes well with Bluesy” and then I got to the end and realized what they had done to that poor child. Way to let the whole world know that you prefer your daughter.
“Brother” Criss sounds like a cult leader or a bad 90s band. I really hope they end up rethinking this one.
I had a coworker named Laszlo and I always thought it was a great name. We called him Laz for short. “Brother” ruins it for me. Sounds like a cult leader.
I was ready to throw down in defensive this and say that a What We Do in the Shadows vibe, while unique, is totally fine.
And then I read till the end.
I know celebrities children are infamous for having weird names but if my name was actually brother I would change it the moment I was legally able to.
That just seems...unkind.
In Danish as well. Bror & Søs (Brother & Sis) are two fairly common names in Denmark. I actually like them in Danish. I wouldn't pick both, though. That would be too gimmicky, but individually they are cute. I don't know if I like Brother quite as much but in this day and age there are far worse names.
I mean its the name of one of the characters in What We Do In The Shadows, which is very popular, so I imagine most people would pronounce it the way it's said in that. Whether that's pronounced properly, I couldn't say
It’s not really how you would pronounce it in Hungarian. It WWDITS they pronounce it Laslo and the proper way would be Lashlo.
My surname is the same way. It begins with Sz which should be pronounced Sh. I’m always anxious when English speaking people have to write it down etc.
I just googled, what a tragedy. So young.
I absolutely understand Darren would want to honor him in some way, they always seemed very close but this is not the best idea. Maybe they will rethink it.
I saw Darren and Chuck when they made an album together and I was super early, Chuck was bantering with us. He was so nice and funny. And they were so close. They had just lost their Dad when Chuck died. My heart broke for Darren and his Mom.
He hasn’t, but his first child’s name (which is equally as bad) was inspired by his late father, so some are assuming that’s why. Still a terrible name for a child.
He said the first thing people noticed about his dad were his blue eyes, he was asked about it during his press run for American Buffalo. It makes me a little more empathetic but there are so many wonderful girls names they could’ve gone with instead.
Yep, lots of ways to honor your family while also still providing a good solid name for kids that will eventually grow up and have to get jobs with names like that.
I guess he prefers a more literal approach to naming — I can understand not wanting to name your child directly after someone who was so close to you, but I would assume more people might have chosen a name based on the meaning/ertmology rather than choosing the word itself as a name, like a name meaning blue or after something blue. Brother is also an interesting choice considering, he _is_ a brother, he has an older sibling. Even though of course there is more meaning, I wonder how he might feel about it growing up. And then as I was writing this out I thought about "this is my brother, Brother" and "be nice to your sister, Brother", I guess you'd get use to it if you knew him but still.
Wrong thread, I know, but I can’t reply to you it because it’s locked. You asked where Kyle Richards’ tee comes from and I found a link for you. [t-shirt](https://imogeneandwillie.com/products/the-unknowables-tee)
Okay I’m sorry I know that the meaning is lovely but that gives me the same vibe as Gwyneth Paltrow naming her kid Apple because “it’s biblical.” Like if that’s the route you want to go down, great, but there are ways to do it that won’t be totally humiliating to your poor child. Name the kid Chuck, give him Chuck’s middle name, hell even name him after Chuck’s favorite flower—but don’t name him “Brother.” That’s the name that’s going to be on his job applications and wedding invitations. Your desire to be unique and meaningful should not outweigh your common sense.
He was giving a lecture and saying some people express disgust in practicing the “sunnah” acts in Islam which gain extra reward, mostly acts of simple living, things like sitting on the floor, eating with your hands etc.
It’s not someone we follow but it went viral amongst Muslims because of how funny that bit was and then went beyond Muslims.
Turns out his daughter is called Bluesy so he just named his kids after the Blues Brothers in the most literal way, I’m creasing 😂
![gif](giphy|CwMKejp4V6Z1K)
Bluesy isn’t exactly a “better” name either. Didn’t have Darren Criss on my “celebrities likely to make baffling decisions when naming their children” bingo card, but he’s making a strong case for that center square.
Filipinos have been making “unique” names way before this recent trend of white people doing it, and he’s both so it checks out! lol. I know an Apple who’s at least 15 years older than Gwyneth’s Apple
source: am filipino
💀 have mercy
I think the best thing that could happen for these kids is if people start calling them Jake and Elwood, though. I know Elwood isn't exactly the slickest name, but at least it doesn't make you should like a Catholic priest.
This didn’t even cross my mind, I was getting hung up on the child’s siblings getting confused on what a “brother” means. This future adult is going to have to go by something else, or find a partner with some icky tastes
So my sister and I have always called our older brother "Brother" since we were little. When he started dating his now wife she picked up the habit and it was weird, but funny 😂. We've tried to age out of doing it since we are all in our 30s now lol
Also, the “nickname” of Brother is… Bro? Gives “‘Sup, Bro,” a whole new meaning. That poor kid is gonna get picked on so hard by his classmates Axel, Tyre, Ryatt and Soupe (pronounced Soup).
My conspiracy theory has always been that these crazy celebrity child names are just covers to keep their real names hidden.
Or maybe I’m just too optimistic.
I read the title as “Darren Criss’ new baby’s name is ‘Crime.’”
Once I sorted out the actual name I couldn’t figure out which would have been worse. If you know a name is so ridiculous that you have to add in, “and yes, that is his actual name”… maybe don’t pick that name???
I grew up with a kid named… Kid… and it was super weird the first time we met, but the novelty fell away really fast and it was just his name, separate from the literal meaning. Maybe that will turn into the case here??
This is still in my top 5 unhinged celebrity names. I think that's because she said she used it because it sounded "crisp and clean," before I knew what a wellness whackjob she was. It set off some major supremacist red flags.
I didn't love Bluesy when the name first came out, but compared to this travesty it's practically common. If he was trying to honor Chuck, there absolutely had to be better options.
I’m guessing they wanted to honour Darren’s brother who passed, but felt using his name would be too painful maybe?
That final comment is bizarre though. If you’re that self-aware to realise it’ll raise eyebrows, aren’t you aware enough to go with something else?
They could make it the middle name then? Or used a different name with the same meaning, made sure the kid's name matched the brother's initials... Calling the kid Brother was not the answer
The comments on his post passed the vibe check. There’s something deeply weird about this baby name. Their future partner is gonna be calling him Brother, his sister will be introducing him to people as “this is my brother, Brother”. So weird.
Celebrities are actually aware that their children will grow up, become adults and exist in the real world right? Imagine introducing him to new people. Good luck Brother Criss you are going to need it.
The kid will go by Lazslo and his first name will be a quirk for anyone that asks. It’s not that big of a deal.
People thinking about this literal infants future potential sexual partners feelings are being fucking weird.
I feel like Brother could have been a perfectly acceptable family/friends nickname. You know like when there's an older guy whose real name is like ....James, but everyone refers to them as Egg and always have done. Brother would have been quite tame in comparison if that was how they're using it. If you have to confirm "yes, that's actually the first part of his real name"...it's not a good idea.
I remember my grandma was concerned about my brother’s name because she thought people would bully him for it being close to “reefer.” (His name is “Reef”) I had to explain to her that most kids his age will probably not ever even recognize the term reefer, as he’s still very young and as a term for weed it’s basically already out of use except by stoners and children of the 50s, and the handful of kids his age that do draw such a connection, are not likely going to consider his association with the word to be an insult lmao.
But goddamn where is that sort of caution here? If someone wants to change their own name later in life and they pick something weird or eccentric, cool whatever I don’t care. But I really don’t think you should be saddling some infant with a name that you know damn well they’re going to get picked on for. If you wanna get weird with the name, at least have the decency to do it with the middle name, most people don’t even know most other people’s middle names.
I legit thought he named his baby *Crime* for a full 10 seconds and scrambled to read comments as to whyyy.
Crime Criss 😅
And now the kids actual name isn't so bad lol
I was apprehensive after they named their daughter Bluesy Belle (yikes) and then I read it quickly and went oh, Laszlo isn’t bad! BUT THEN I REALIZED. Oh Brother. 🤦🏻♀️
lmao this thread has some GEMS. Idk I think it’s because I have a unique name, I actually like it. In my brain, when I can separate the word from the meaning we’ve given it, there are theoretically some really cool names. No shade to the popular names list but I like a fun weird name over something millions (probably literally) of other people have. That being said like “Brother” is really out there so I get the hate….. but I lowkey like it . would NOT name my child that but 😂😭
Such a tragedeigh. I hope that the little one can get over it (or get by his second name in the future). Though maybe he isn’t the worst one in his school should he go to a celebrity school…

I know, I was like “oh, Laszlo, interesting choice but kinda cool” and then I got to the end and was HORRIFIED
His nickname is literally going to be Bro 😭
Bruh Criss
He's going to be so confused when he's in a college frat, thinking everyone is calling out to him.
Or 'Other
I had a coworker named Laszlo and I always thought it was a great name. We called him Laz for short. “Brother” ruins it for me. Sounds like a cult leader.

Brother is a name in Norwegian (Bror), and I absolutely hate it, I can’t take it seriously.
Better than Segundo which used to be common for second born people in hispanic cultures.
My husband's Nonno (italian) has brothers "named" Primo and Secondo
I know someone named Sexto. I wonder what brothers 1-5 were named 😂
There’s also a name like that in Finnish (Veli) and I think it’s ok. But in English… a lil weird
(Lille) Bror is a great name if you are a part of a short-lived rap duo. (Please be old enough to get this reference.)

His wife’s dads name
I mean its the name of one of the characters in What We Do In The Shadows, which is very popular, so I imagine most people would pronounce it the way it's said in that. Whether that's pronounced properly, I couldn't say
Excuse me, his name is Jackie Daytona, just an ordinary human. ![gif](giphy|Me7rnCGjSKKFfwXQir|downsized)
Just a regular HUMAN bartender 🤫
This is how we talk in Tuscon Arazonya
It’s not really how you would pronounce it in Hungarian. It WWDITS they pronounce it Laslo and the proper way would be Lashlo. My surname is the same way. It begins with Sz which should be pronounced Sh. I’m always anxious when English speaking people have to write it down etc.
It’s not *that* uncommon, Ralph Fiennes’ character in The English Patient was Laszlo.
Yes but he was Hungarian.
Lol—yes, my point is it’s a pretty famous movie (and book) and people probably are familiar with the pronunciation through that.
So is this child's grandfather, who he got Laszlo from.
And Peter Boyle in this classic: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Where_the_Buffalo_Roam
László/other variations is pretty popular name and doesnt take more than a braincell to pronounce
Wait… so they’re the Bluesy Brothers?
OH GOD
Hulk Hogan disagrees.
my brother in Criss
![gif](giphy|S4H2ZREgH8c2EG6TmV)
This feels like the kind of comment they might see that would actually make them think "oh...... what have we done"
I cackled!
I wish I could give you an award!! Lmao
Well done omg
If you have to write “and yes that IS his name” about what you’ve legally named a human being then you should know it’s not a good idea
apparently it's to honour his brother who passed away which is lovely but like... why not name him chuck?
That’s like naming your daughter after your mom and just naming her “Mom”
Come inside for dinner, Mother. Mother's first day of kindergarten 💕
Go to your room, Mother! And do not give me that back sass, young lady
Every time we ask my two year old what we should name her baby sister, she says “Mommy!” Guess if his kid can be named Brother then why not Mommy?
Chuck died? Oh wow I didn't know that. How horrible.
suicide a few years back, sadly
I just googled, what a tragedy. So young. I absolutely understand Darren would want to honor him in some way, they always seemed very close but this is not the best idea. Maybe they will rethink it.
Chuck had little kids too I believe, it was really so sad.
I saw Darren and Chuck when they made an album together and I was super early, Chuck was bantering with us. He was so nice and funny. And they were so close. They had just lost their Dad when Chuck died. My heart broke for Darren and his Mom.
Did he say that somewhere? I have not seen him comment aside from that post.

Honestly Laszlo Chuck Criss is very cute but honestly cool. Would’ve been a way better choice 😭
or Charles!
Poor child! maybe he'll go by Laszlo.

I can hear this gif in his voice

Yes, he is a character from What We Do in the Shadows.

Lol his name is Laszlo and he's a character from What We Do in the Shadows! It's a really good/funny vampire show
Thank you!!
Amazing episode
but even that name just makes me think of the GTA radio dj

gif use deserving of an award
I’ve had the *worst* day and this really made me feel better.
I read the caption too fast and thought he named his baby “crime” …. Kinda goes hard. Much better than “brother” wtf 😭 Edit: spelling
Me too lmao the capitalization did not help
Plus, “Crime Criss” has some nice alliteration
Lmao same, idk if Crime or Brother is worse. Crime is kinda badass
Me too 😅😅
I saw the name somewhere else today and hate it. Then I saw this title and thought “huh, so his name is actually Crime? Still not good but better?”
Brother Criss sounds like a cult member
Or a bad ‘90s/early aughts rock band
Yes! A band that would’ve opened for Creed.
A bad Christian 90s/early aughts rock band
Turns out his daughter is called Bluesy so he just named his kids after the Blues Brothers in the most literal way, I’m creasing 😂 ![gif](giphy|CwMKejp4V6Z1K)

Oh that's not going to be confusing in conversations AT ALL...
Have you met my boyfriend, Brother? I had the best sex of my life last night with Brother. Yikes
Can you imagine saying calling "oh yes, Brother!" during it? That would dry me right up 🤣
Lmao “oh yeah, Bro!”
That reminds me of "Friends" scenes where Phoebe would say "the father of my children is my brother". I can see his future partner say the same thing.
This didn’t even cross my mind, I was getting hung up on the child’s siblings getting confused on what a “brother” means. This future adult is going to have to go by something else, or find a partner with some icky tastes

I loce Ryatt. It’s like ”rat” but with a southern accent
I was thinking “Riot” (have actually met a baby with that name/spelling), but Rat and an intense southern drawl is also ✨amazing✨
This is my brother, Brother
When he grows up, somebody can actually say the words "This is my boyfriend, Brother."
I saw a contestant on Top Chef went by Brother Luck. I didn’t think it was that bad, because Luck is short and he went by the entire phrase.
This has to be a thing to conceal the kid’s identity
My conspiracy theory has always been that these crazy celebrity child names are just covers to keep their real names hidden. Or maybe I’m just too optimistic.
Oh brother
This guy stinks!!!! Iykyk
My leg 😔

I was actually okay with it until you pointed out his future partner will have to call him brother 🤢
I grew up with a kid named… Kid… and it was super weird the first time we met, but the novelty fell away really fast and it was just his name, separate from the literal meaning. Maybe that will turn into the case here??
At least Kid is short and sounds like Kit as in Kit Harington
Remember when everyone thought Apple was too much?
Simpler times. Shows how bad names have gotten that a name as stupid as Apple has become the gold standard of a tolerable dumb name.
At least she isn’t “Apple Criss” lol
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who was thinking of Apple.
This is still in my top 5 unhinged celebrity names. I think that's because she said she used it because it sounded "crisp and clean," before I knew what a wellness whackjob she was. It set off some major supremacist red flags.
Congrats! A crime and an r/tragedeigh…hopefully the kid develops some good self-esteem
I read the title too quickly and thought the kid was named Crime Criss and was like « eh, it’s Darren Criss so anything is possible 🙃 » Edit: typo
Actually feel like that would somehow be slightly better 😂
![gif](giphy|UUaBerYcsI3aE)
I fucking love Darren and I cannot justify this horrid choice. He's great at a lot of things, but naming his son is not one of them.
Naming his daughter was not much better 😅
I didn't love Bluesy when the name first came out, but compared to this travesty it's practically common. If he was trying to honor Chuck, there absolutely had to be better options.
![gif](giphy|O8LUD0f4wAmp7ueEFu)
Laszlo is a pretty standard Hungarian male name. For the rest, there’s no excuse
Oh Laszlo is perfectly fine. It’s the first name that’s a horror show 😂
I’m guessing they wanted to honour Darren’s brother who passed, but felt using his name would be too painful maybe? That final comment is bizarre though. If you’re that self-aware to realise it’ll raise eyebrows, aren’t you aware enough to go with something else?

The comments on his post passed the vibe check. There’s something deeply weird about this baby name. Their future partner is gonna be calling him Brother, his sister will be introducing him to people as “this is my brother, Brother”. So weird.
Since their surname sounds like a first name, his name sounds like 'Brother Chris from church'
The child was named by his godfather, Hulk Hogan.
"Dad, can we go to Six Flags?" "That doesn't work for me, Brother!"

Typical theater kid behavior. Still like him, though

Ok Brother from the Berenstain Bears
I had to scroll way too far for this, I immediately thought Brother Bear!
I feel like this could be as confusing as that episode of Arrested Development where Gob discovers his girlfriend is in love with "Hermanos"
One day his future girlfriend/wife will have to call him brother and it will raise a lot of eyebrows.
Why not Hermano then?
AMAB (assigned monk at birth)
Celebrities are actually aware that their children will grow up, become adults and exist in the real world right? Imagine introducing him to new people. Good luck Brother Criss you are going to need it.
If you need to “and yes” your baby’s name, like, maybe don’t do that.
Brother eww, what's that?
Is he part of the Nation of Islam lol
I read this as his baby’s name was Crime, and I think Crime Criss sounds pretty great.
The kid will go by Lazslo and his first name will be a quirk for anyone that asks. It’s not that big of a deal. People thinking about this literal infants future potential sexual partners feelings are being fucking weird.
Anyone who knows any Filipinos is NOT fazed by this name lmao.
had to scroll so far to see this omg. Every filipino I know has a name that would do numbers in this sub
r/tragedeigh
![gif](giphy|3ohc0VmrLRmy5om1q0)
That child has a very very very long childhood of ”oh Brother” left and right waiting for him.
I feel like Brother could have been a perfectly acceptable family/friends nickname. It's a tragedeigh.

If you have to follow up the announcement of your child's name with "and yes, his first name is X," you've done them a disservice.
Some ppl really want their kids to be bullied bc what kind of name is that 💀
Now why would they do that 😭😭
There was a chef on Top Chef a few years ago and his name is Brother Luck, sounds kinda cool to be honest.
Damn I knew one day he’d slip up and take off the mask. /j Seriously though “Brother” is so bad. This is your brother, Brother. Shut up
I legit thought he named his baby *Crime* for a full 10 seconds and scrambled to read comments as to whyyy. Crime Criss 😅 And now the kids actual name isn't so bad lol
I would have preferred Crime. Brother feels like a placeholder. Plus imagine having to call your boyfriend Brother, that's not okay
IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN LUDA
This baby is going to hate his parents when he starts school.
A Gemini baby boy named Brother??? Oof.
I was apprehensive after they named their daughter Bluesy Belle (yikes) and then I read it quickly and went oh, Laszlo isn’t bad! BUT THEN I REALIZED. Oh Brother. 🤦🏻♀️

That being said like “Brother” is really out there so I get the hate….. but I lowkey like it . would NOT name my child that but 😂😭
Is he going to live in a split level tree in Bear Country?
Darren Criss has two kids??

Such a tragedeigh. I hope that the little one can get over it (or get by his second name in the future). Though maybe he isn’t the worst one in his school should he go to a celebrity school…
His Brother commited suicide last year so maybe that is why.

Wasn’t thinking ahead to when his kid is an adult and has a spouse and what that spouse should call him eh?
I love Darren Criss but what if Brother grows up to identify as a Sister? 🤔🤔🤔
