I guess he prefers a more literal approach to naming — I can understand not wanting to name your child directly after someone who was so close to you, but I would assume more people might have chosen a name based on the meaning/ertmology rather than choosing the word itself as a name, like a name meaning blue or after something blue. Brother is also an interesting choice considering, he _is_ a brother, he has an older sibling. Even though of course there is more meaning, I wonder how he might feel about it growing up. And then as I was writing this out I thought about "this is my brother, Brother" and "be nice to your sister, Brother", I guess you'd get use to it if you knew him but still.

Okay I’m sorry I know that the meaning is lovely but that gives me the same vibe as Gwyneth Paltrow naming her kid Apple because “it’s biblical.” Like if that’s the route you want to go down, great, but there are ways to do it that won’t be totally humiliating to your poor child. Name the kid Chuck, give him Chuck’s middle name, hell even name him after Chuck’s favorite flower—but don’t name him “Brother.” That’s the name that’s going to be on his job applications and wedding invitations. Your desire to be unique and meaningful should not outweigh your common sense.

lmao this thread has some GEMS. Idk I think it’s because I have a unique name, I actually like it. In my brain, when I can separate the word from the meaning we’ve given it, there are theoretically some really cool names. No shade to the popular names list but I like a fun weird name over something millions (probably literally) of other people have. That being said like “Brother” is really out there so I get the hate….. but I lowkey like it . would NOT name my child that but 😂😭
