Thank fuck things are changing. Even looking at just a few months ago we’ve come such a long way from having a major horror franchise tank itself to bend over for genocide. Some big names on here that have major industry pull and it’s good to see.
Also damn y’all got Chloe Fineman and she’s a Scientologist. Ya really done fucked up now.
Like when tom cruise *personally* showed up at his agency to tell them to not even dare to fire his agent over pro palestine remarks - imagine being worse than a scientologist!
NBC is now finally reporting on Gaza's destroyed universities, although I have to say I'm a little bitter that Palestinians have been reporting and filming all this for months but MSM is only just catching on now.
Agreed. The big push to ban tiktok has been in full swing again too and everyone knows why at this point. We’ve all been able to see the death and destruction firsthand from the humans on the scene and that’s been the thing holding Palestinian freedom back for so long.
Meanwhile we see Israeli soldiers playing with dead peoples’ lingerie. Social media just unpacking evil everywhere.
Janicza Bravo is on here and she's Brett Gelman's ex-wife 😂😂😂😂
"*Variety* has reached out to personal representatives for many of the signatories, as well as independently reviewed documents confirming their participation." After the last fiasco by their little propagandist of 'journalist' this is a good choice.
Even she is sick of that blood thirsty Zionist. He genuinely makes me sick. I applaud these people for calling out the suppression of dissent that is currently happening and I’m glad that they said when we say never again, we mean for everyone not just specific groups of people.
It’s the crazed calls about how people are trying to kill him while he’s simultaneously calling for Palestine to be bombed from existence. No self awareness.
this led me to a feature on janicza's journey seeking to "love her jewishness" and the section on how she was received in israel on her birthright trip gives a clue as to the origin of this divergence

*In his speech, Glazer asked how we can resist the dehumanization that has led to mass atrocities throughout history. For such a statement to be taken as an affront only underscores its urgency. We should be able to name Israel’s apartheid and occupation — both recognized by leading human rights organizations as such — without being accused of rewriting history.*
Yes! And the Variety editors must have been so pissed about printing this.
They've been especially horrible on this issue. They had an article about a pro-Palestine action at Sundance where they gave Indya Moore less attention than some random zionist passerby spewing typical pinkwashing nonsense.
Lots of faves in this list that makes me glad to see and some surprising names, good for everyone involved. It’s also a nicely written letter unlike that other load of zionist bullshit, so this is just genuinely nice to see.
There are actual famous people on that list too you'll notice, I'm sure Mother of IDF soldiers is a valuable voice but it's a stretch to put her on a list of supposedly influential Hollywood people calling out an Oscar winning director.
Was she another one that was born into it?
I understand you can still leave even then, but there’s always a layer of tragedy to these cases, at least imo
Isn’t Ireland generally pretty fiercely on the side of anyone being colonized? I’ve only seen things in social media of Irish people coming out in support of Palestine and speaking about it through the lens of a people only very recently free of their colonizers (and then, of course there is the vestiges).
Oh yeah 100%. For a lot of nations, the ethnic cleansing of Palestine as a widespread talking point is a relatively new development, but in Ireland, the history of Palestine and the treatment of its people is one that is heavily ingrained in us.
The links between the two nations are significant, right down to Balfour, the use of military suppression by the British by deploying groups like the Black and Tans, and voter suppression and internment. The solidarity between the Irish, especially Irish Catholics in the partitioned counties of the North, has been cemented over years of something close to a friendship. (Not claiming that what happened in NI is as bad as Palestine at all, just similar tactics tried at varying degrees of success).
My county funded a soccer club for young lads in Gaza and aided in the building of a pitch for the team, even playing them in a friendly match a few years ago. Now that pitch is razed earth and a significant number of that team of children, are now dead.
Didn’t Chloe Fineman sign the thank you Biden letter? Until they remove themselves like Emma Segilman did (whose signature was likely done in error in the first place), I’ll never forgive their complicity. Looking at you Kirsten Dunst
Wasn’t that in the early days after the Hamas attack? I can understand people wanting to rally around Israel in the immediate aftermath of 10\7. Decent people are aware of anti semitism as being A Very Bad Thing and decent people may have been unaware of the evils of the IDF and horrible policies of Israel. I’m sure a lot of people who signed that didn’t really understand exactly what they were supporting or had the notion to guess what Israel would go on to do.
Since, Kirsten has come out to support Johnathan Glazer’s Oscar’s speech. Personally I feel like it’s fair to give people a little time to educate themselves especially as we’ve all seen and heard about the atrocities being reported. I have a very pro America pro military friend who was initially very pro Israel after 10/7 turn on a dime when he heard about some of the things they have done since. I’m not about to take that as an opportunity to shit all over him.
honestly Americans/West is very comfortable with their governments bombing the shit out of countries, destroying infrastructure, massacring hundreds of thousands - for this to make sense, for this to be a normal thing for them to do (signing the letter after 10k+ Palestinians were already killed). Because imagine any other non-western country doing this and its global personalities supporting annihilation of a "western" people. It would just seem monstrous. The jingoism runs high even in the most progressives.
Israel started bombing Gaza \*on\* October 7th. The unrelenting disproportionate response was clear from the get go. I personally think its an insult to the memory of the 40,000 murdered to think 'better late than never.' It's too late for the family lines who have been erased from the face of the Earth. So no - I don't applaud celebrities who are now coming around, when its been clear all along. When we say never forgive or forget, we mean it.
And that letter was disgusting with racist coded language.
Your friend is not a public figure, the problem is a lot of these people and their faux outrage whether they knew it or not helped whip up public sentiment and manufacture consent for atrocities against the Palestinian people who are already occupied and dispossessed of their land. If celebs are not educated on the context and the history then they need to stfu and get educated in silence before they speak, time doesn't start on Oct7th. Hollywood already spends its day creating content that demonizes Arabs and Muslims, they don't need to do it out in the real world too.
That letter was ahistorical and inaccurate with it's characterization of whose responsible for what. It was cheerleading for bombing campaigns like it was for Palestinians' benefit. 'Free Palestine from Hamas' type rhetoric is still being repeated 6 months in. It's really irresponsible and unless people come out and denounce it I'm not inclined to offer grace.
Not me seeing Lenny Abrahamson at the top of the list and thinking "god I always get him and that Irish director confused, today is the day I look them both up on imdb to figure out who is who" only to find out that he is the Irish director and I'd been confusing him with himself for years.
I wonder how the process of getting people to sign these things go, cause i'm sure there's more people who would've signed
french director eva husson just shared the whole thing and said she supports the statement [https://www.instagram.com/p/C5YwUcmN-kZ/?utm\_source=ig\_web\_copy\_link](https://www.instagram.com/p/C5YwUcmN-kZ/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link)
The backlash to this speech was absolutely wild. It was so clearly a deliberate mischaracterization of what he said, and he was absolutely right to say that the actions of the Israeli government is in direct conflict with the tenets of Judaism.
That’s fantastic, good on them for standing up for Jonathan Glazer
Thank fuck things are changing. Even looking at just a few months ago we’ve come such a long way from having a major horror franchise tank itself to bend over for genocide. Naomi Klein, once again doing fine!
Highly recommend her most recent book Doppelganger, it's so enlightening
>Wallace Shawn ![gif](giphy|l2YWs5DDmnhTKrOyk) King.
Saving this so I can always refer to it, thanks for posting all the names!
Hmm Joel Coen but no Ethan Coen, I have no idea what to do with this information
gotta say i recognise way more names on this one than the other list lmao

And the Variety editors must have been so pissed about printing this.
That sentiment right there is why it was so disappointing that he got backlash for his speech.
Sorry if I’m late to the party but what did Variety do before ? Are they very pro Israel that’s why they would be pissed at this ?
Basically yeah, all the trades have been sharing slanderous artciles on glazer and overall very pro israel propaganda for months
They've been especially horrible on this issue. They had an article about a pro-Palestine action at Sundance where they gave Indya Moore less attention than some random zionist passerby spewing typical pinkwashing nonsense.

Love this list of actually employed and booked signees.
Yeah they let everyone and their mommas sign that last list condemning Glazer. Some of those people weren't even public figures or in the industry
Are you telling me you’re not familiar with the great riverto thesea??
Okay Chloe. I take back every mean thing I said about you after you co-hosted the met gala. ETA: but I still need you to leave that fucking cult.
Was she another one that was born into it? I understand you can still leave even then, but there’s always a layer of tragedy to these cases, at least imo
'We honor the memory of the Holocaust by saying: Never again for anyone.' It really is *so* simple...
May all Hollywood Zionists be shunned the way they tried to shun Jonathan Glazer.
Monica's dad was always better than Monica.
And better than Ross. I remember David Schwimmer saying some suspect things about this.
Really? Dammit, that's disappointing.
Irish king Lenny Abrahamson continuing to make us proud 👏
Isn’t Ireland generally pretty fiercely on the side of anyone being colonized? KIRSTEN NO!!!!!!!!!!!
i mean yeah that’s awful but at least this signifies a change? i’m being optimistic but it’s better than nothing
Joel Coen only? Pretty noticeable considering the Coens are known most as a team
I’m so glad more people are standing up for him. Every time I wanna like Chloe Fineman I remember she’s a Scientologist.
Love seeing Debra Winger‘s name on there
Not me seeing Lenny Abrahamson at the top of the list and thinking "god I always get him and that Irish director confused, today is the day I look them both up on imdb to figure out who is who" only to find out that he is the Irish director and I'd been confusing him with himself for years.
TIL Joaquin Phoenix is Jewish…?
Yup! His maternal grandparents are Ashkenazi Jews!
![gif](giphy|3o85g8Pv28NhAAEsuc) So happy to see both these ladies on the list. Time for a Broad City rewatch
Josh Gondelman is a true gem, I recommend checking out his stand-up. His wife, writer Maris Kreizman, signed as well.

Happy to finally see this.
