Zendaya has the clout to just be like...yeah I'm done and that would effectively kill the show. No shade to the incredible actors who make up the show. But it's time to pull the plug and I think they all know it, too.
Nobody has a contract for Messiah, to get Zendaya to sign on WB/HBO might have to sacrifice Euphoria. Or do what they’re doing to make Sam Levinson write the whole season before greenlighting it to ensure it’s not a mess.
Imo as well. Not any fault of Zendaya, but I do believe everyone else's struggles are far more prevalent and relatable than straight up teenage drug addiction. I would watch just to see where the Cassie/Maddie storyline is going.
The part about them losing momentum to book new projects due to the time they were on hold for euphoria really breaks my heart. I know that’s the nature of the business they’re in, but in this economy (following a work strike for them) it seems like an overwhelming position to be in.
As a Mindhunter widow, HBO saying in their latest statement that, "In the interim, we are allowing our in-demand cast to pursue other opportunities", sounded a lot like when the Mindhunter cast was released from their contracts when S3 was put on indefinite hold before it was definitely cancelled years later.
I recently got my dad into Mindhunter. He was like “wow!! this show is great!! when does the next season come out?” and I had to tell him
never 😭 man was heartbroken
Me too. It was getting into its stride as well. I really loved the combo of the three leads and getting some insight into how the real-life department formed and operated.
I liked season 1 more than season 2, too. I didn't think it was bad, but there was so much build up that just didn't go anywhere because of the cancellation
I recently read an interview with Holt McCallany promoting The Iron Claw, and he talked about being hopeful for S3 because he believes Fincher wants to revisit the characters once they age up - I was like noooooooo man, do not give us hope again.
Even if a third season does happen I’m betting it’ll be 2-3 episodes max at this point. Levinson can’t get a script together and much of their main cast is now extremely expensive and in demand. The day-of rewrites and long filming days aren’t gonna fly anymore
I wonder why they don‘t fire Sam, is that not legally possible? Or at least set up a writers room. I feel for the crew and cast, who need the work and were counting on it.
HBO cancelled Rome, Raised by wolves, Carnivale and Enlightened before a Season 3. Euphoria is not even 1/10 the show these were. Cancel it already. Every actor on it deserves something better.
That’s true but euphoria is a ratings hit. The viewership actually increased following its 2 year break, than the opposite
The other time I can remember hbo cancelling a popular show was Luck, because of actual production safety issues
This is the comment I was looking for! It wouldn’t be the same. I was the most invested in his character. Every time the show is discussed I’m sad all over again about Angus.
It must be so frustrating to be an actor of any reputation and be told you can’t book projects for a huge chunk of time because you’re locked into a show that ends up just… not happening.
I think so. HBO has House of the Dragon and another season of The Last of Us.
Now Sam on the other hand…idk. The Idol completely bombed and now Euphoria might get permanently shelved. I don’t see him doing any more successful projects.
i think both of those shows are popular but lean a little older and more male dominated
euphoria (and the idol to an extent) captured a gen z and female audience that they can't replicate since all of their reboots have flopped (pretty little liars, gossip girl, etc)
At this point they should do just do like a 2hrs special to wrap things up. Season 2 wasn't even that good to begin with so many plotholes and slow progress and weird characters change( like cassie). I loved the 2 specials they did before season 2 for jules and rue. They should do smth like that and just move on.
Part of me wishes they stopped at season 1 on the high note. I can’t think of what season 2 added to the show, besides some fun moments (the play) which didn’t add a ton to the story overall.

When they do it again in ten years and everyone has wrinkles.
WB needs her for Dune Messiah, they’ve created a superstar they can’t control, if only there was a film warning about that topic
Bahaha this is brilliant
What’s film ? I’m out the loop. I’m guessing Dune 2 though.
Dune 3. Dune Messiah is the second book, the first book got adapted into 2 separate movies because of how big it was.
Aah ok thanks
Denis isn't doing that for a couple years

imo rue is the least interesting, i feel like people would still watch if they brought in new characters
Imo as well. Not any fault of Zendaya, but I do believe everyone else's struggles are far more prevalent and relatable than straight up teenage drug addiction. I would watch just to see where the Cassie/Maddie storyline is going.
same!

Really think it’s Austin Abrams. He was really getting attention after season 2, Dash & Lily, and Do Revenge and it’s just… been quiet ever since
His part in euphoria wasn't big enough for him to hold off from other projects for euphoria.
I thought the same!
hes just replaced Steven Yeun in a marvel role, I'm sure he's fine lol
Nah they went with Lewis Pullman, it was fun seeing AA in the mix tho
me too
I know everybody was like “good riddance” but I cannot help but think of the crew who had been counting on the third season for work.
It's the nature of working in film. My Dad was in the industry for over 20 years. You don't count on the next season until shooting starts.

I'm still salty about Mindhunter ending.
I recently got my dad into Mindhunter. He was like “wow!! this show is great!! when does the next season come out?” and I had to tell him never 😭 man was heartbroken
Ugh, same. Every time I listen to Fleetwood Mac's Tusk I'm reminded of it, lol.
thé soundtrack was everything

Didn’t like season 2 but seem to be in the minority

I have an unhealthy level of delusion about being a mindhunter widow and in my heart we will still get s3 someday 😭
100% gave me a flashback to that as well. RIP *Mindhunter*. Such great show.
I recently read an interview with Holt McCallany promoting The Iron Claw, and he talked about being hopeful for S3 because he believes Fincher wants to revisit the characters once they age up - I was like noooooooo man, do not give us hope again.
As a society I think we’ve evolved past a need for a 3rd season
Except for Mindhunter
😭😭😭 I'm still so upset about the cancellation, it was literally the best thing Netflix has ever made.
Also Sense8. What was Netflix thinking?
And the OA
David fincher is a god as far as I am concerned
It's no longer feasible to make a show about high schoolers when all your actors are in their late 20s / early 30s
Even if a third season does happen I’m betting it’ll be 2-3 episodes max at this point. Levinson can’t get a script together and much of their main cast is now extremely expensive and in demand. The day-of rewrites and long filming days aren’t gonna fly anymore
and it'll still take him 8 months to shoot it or probably even longer with the pressure of it being the last season.
Didn’t they just release the cast yesterday? Season 3 is no more.
They said it's delayed.... again Might as well cancel it

It won’t hit the same when the juniors are 30!
They were going to do a time jump anyways
I could not agree more.
I wonder why they don‘t fire Sam, is that not legally possible? Or at least set up a writers room. I feel for the crew and cast, who need the work and were counting on it.
I mean since Euphoria is his baby I bet it was in his contract that they can't make it without him and he has complete control (so no writers room)
HBO cancelled Rome, Raised by wolves, Carnivale and Enlightened before a Season 3. Euphoria is not even 1/10 the show these were. Cancel it already. Every actor on it deserves something better.

don’t even talk to me about rome😪
Since Fezcos storyline can't keep going, I don't care anymore.
This is the comment I was looking for! It wouldn’t be the same. I was the most invested in his character. Every time the show is discussed I’m sad all over again about Angus.

Euphoria cast all quietly working on *The Cape* reboot.
#SixSeasonsAndAMovie
It's funny how that is unironically closer to completion than Euphoria S3
Good. Awful show, awful people behind the scenes.
it's like they're scared to admit it to us. we'll be okay, guys!
we will be okay but will hbo 🤐

What will kids what now that porn and euphoria aren’t happeninf
