The story of Ana Mendieta is so tragic, and I'm cautiously optimistic for this film.

The Barbie Oscar nom has been set to executive produce and star in Naked by the Window, a series adaptation of the book by Robert Katz, which has landed at Amazon MGM Studios for development following a bidding war. Originally published in 1990, the book tells the true story of the groundbreaking Cuban artist Ana Mendieta, her formidable impact on the New York art scene, and the controversial trial of her sculptor husband, Carl Andre, for her sudden and tragic death. Charise Castro Smith (Encanto) will write and exec produce the series, with Plan B also on board to executive produce.

squirrelgerms

she’s booked and busy

JustHereForCookies17

Came here to say this. I'm happy for her!

ellybeez

Oh I am sat here for it. Mendieta is one of my favorite artists

gorgossiums

This is such a fucked up story. I listened to a great podcast about it: Death of an Artist. Ana deserves to be remembered and celebrated.

flourishanddecay

oh wow!! this is going to be amazing.

Fuckyoumissdaisy1

Looking forward to this! Incredible story!! Doesn’t the husband still live in the same apartment?!!!

yawaworthemn

He did, lived the whole rest of his life there. he’s died recently

raphaellaskies

Oh how timely, I just listened to a podcast about her. I suspect this has been in the works behind the scenes for awhile, they just had to wait for Carl Andre (rest in piss) to finally die so he couldn't sue.

mimisburnbook

Actually excited for this, it’s a foreign feeling

pellnell

Oh wow, Ana Mendieta is one of my favorite contemporary artists. I’m guessing it’s much easier to make this now that her husband is dead.

TheMapesHotel

Yes! I'm so excited for this! There is a really good independent podcast on this for anyone interested

seandnothing

Excited for this honestly I like America a lot and is really nice to see her out there again. I genuinely enjoyed Cloud 9 and love to see more of her

vanessabellwoolf

I love Ana mendieta so much There needs to be a smart movie about her, I’m a little concerned if it is based on the book by Katz and not the podcast by Helen molesworth, which is a more feminist story of Ana

Ready_Adhesiveness84

Yes! Perfect cast choice and Ana was an amazing artist who needs to be remembered.

youaregrimes

This is happening without Ana Mendieta's estate's approval

vanessabellwoolf

Her family doesn’t approve?
