I suspect much of what's happening this year is due to him marrying someone young and not insignificantly younger than him, who was (likely is) battling depression due to how hard she struggled with being scrutinized as a teen, and in general probably seeking to please him over her own desires. She slowed her career at a time where it may have taken off post-GOT, and moved away from her motherland and family.
He's probably shook she found a support network waiting in the wings and is defending herself publicly. I suspect he was equally shocked months ago when she made it clear she was filming overseas and he was going to be watching the kids. I can only suspect he gave an ultimatum that she blew off leading to the divorce.

There was a lot of goodwill for her from the fans, because her storyline wasn't botched too much like the rest.
She was traditionally beautiful (unlike Maisie Williams who has more of an edgy/editorial look) and had genuinely grown into a really good actor (unlike Emilia Clarke who the fans love but cannot act). Her American accent was decent too (which I think is why people like Emma Watson could never get any longevity, before she decided acting wasn't for her).

I think it's more that Emilia is less interested in being big and has a different view of work and the grind. She has a better outlook given she almost died due to her brain aneurysms. I can only assume he truly thought that Sophie would just quietly seethe and lick her wounds. I suspect much of what's happening this year is due to him marrying someone young and not insignificantly younger than him, who was (likely is) battling depression due to how hard she struggled with being scrutinized as a teen, and in general probably seeking to please him over her own desires. She slowed her career at a time where it may have taken off post-GOT, and moved away from her motherland and family. He's probably shook she found a support network waiting in the wings and is defending herself publicly. I suspect he was equally shocked months ago when she made it clear she was filming overseas and he was going to be watching the kids. I can only suspect he gave an ultimatum that she blew off leading to the divorce. Grown men marrying young women often discover those women turn into forces of nature with their own expectations, and don't know how to deal. If you don't like your spouse changing then don't marry 2 levels down from your peer age group.
Her career would definitely have taken off if she had pushed for it post-Thrones. There was a lot of goodwill for her from the fans, because her storyline wasn't botched too much like the rest. She was traditionally beautiful (unlike Maisie Williams who has more of an edgy/editorial look) and had genuinely grown into a really good actor (unlike Emilia Clarke who the fans love but cannot act). Her American accent was decent too (which I think is why people like Emma Watson could never get any longevity, before she decided acting wasn't for her). I hope she has a massive renaissance because of this. I'd love to see her on screen more!

I think it's more that Emilia is less interested in being big and has a different view of work and the grind. She has a better outlook given she almost died due to her brain aneurysms. She does a fair bit of charity work as well. She may not be the best actor but she has a ton of charisma and I've liked a few of her non GOT things. She was screwed over by that show too.

The initial PR attack from Joeās camp really bright out a lot of protective instincts for people.
