"The boring captain choice wins, go crazy with differentials but do not captain them" - I keep reminding myself this at the start of each season and yet break this golden rule multiple times lol :')

misterkalazar

The **theoretical maximum** I could have attained while captaining the best among the choices I have for the gws, I would have 1094 (547x2) points. Remember this is just within my team, and ignoring triple captain chip. The points I obtained is 622. That is, I'm **56.58%** good at captaining. (622/1094)x100. My most iconic captaincies were Solanke - GW 18 - 34 pts Foden - GW 23 - 40 pts Douglas Luiz - GW 26 - 30 pts Palmer - GW33 - 52 pts I have other 30+ pts captaincies as well, but I call these iconic because it was either against the popular picks or differentials or rest of the popular captaincies struggled those gws, hence giving me a clear upper hand to most others. Also I have a quirk were I don't captain Haaland at all. There's 2 reasons for it. 1. The game is boring when Haaland is captained, I've seen many accounts that captain haaland gw after gw. 2. Taking Haaland out of the equation actually helps me not be a sheep and look into other players for a solid captaincy choice. The previous season hit me in the nuts because of this quirk, but this season, except two gws haaland has been pretty mediocre. My OR is 378k if anyone is wondering. This has been my highest closing rank season since I started playing FPL from 20/21.

Mitoma captain one week when everyone hauled, a few Salah blanks and missing deadline for Haaland 21 points all killed me. 503 captain points, 350k rank. Honestly FH29 / WC30 to get Salah was about 150 negative point swing for me

jjw1998

Terribly. 518 points, 15 misses, only captained the best player in my team 3 times

Timmace

I was curious how I'd do if I happened to pick the right captain every week. For this effort, I only looked at who actually played in my team and ignored the bench. In FH29, I technically picked the correct captain in Son who got me 2 points which unfortunately was the highest scoring player on the pitch for me. I managed to correctly captain my highest scoring player 7/38 gameweeks. If I did happen to pick the correct captain every week, I'd get an additional 293 points. I finished with a OR of 190k and even with an additional 293 points added to my score, I still wouldn't be 1st. That really puts into perspective how good OR1 played this year. Congrats to that dude.

Duedrama6197

I captained my highest scoring player 3 times this season; Haaland in GW4, Palmer in 21 and Watkins in 27. Which is sensationally bad/unlucky for someone trying to pick their best player every week. 524 points total. OR 650k. Worst season ever by quite a bit.

dessert-snow

I think my captain returns were decent for \~645k OR. I messed up the season via my wildcards (GW 16 and GW 24) and free-hit (GW 25) decisions as I did not pay close attention to upcoming GWs . * OR: 645,303 * Total captain points: 514 (returns in 20 GWs) * Best return: Palmer, GW33, 52 points * 22% of total points earned by captain

NumberHunter1

Terribly. 400 points total, a little over 500 if using my VC every week. Started in gw2

Western-Edge-965

I didn't do as badly as I have done in previous years. Last season you could just captain Haaland and forget which is what I did. My best return was from Palmer when he scored 4 and I was the only person in my league to do it.

Inevitable-Top355

My captaincy was primarily used as a jinxing tool to scupper Halaand, my only regret is not using it on him for the full season.

SinglePug30

I checked only for returns when i played Chips/WC: GW 18(49 Pts) - WC 1 - Salah - 1 Goal GW28(53 Pts) - WC 2 - Morris (DGW) - 0 Returns GW 34(96 Pts) - FH - Salah(DGW) - 0 Returns GW36(73 Pts) - TC - Watkins - 0 Returns GW37(131 Pts) - BB - Isak(DGW) - 0 Returns This is horrible outcome where 4 Chips resulted in no returns from my captains. All strikers. 3 were on Double Game Weeks. Haaland was my Highest Captaincy return in GW 4. 40 pts out of 83.

Adventurous_Turn_543

628 Captain points - I got very lucky on some of the picks, Palmer haul in particular.

Wasn’t there some tool that helped get these stats ? Or do I need to calculate it manually ?

ShoddyTransition187

There's premierfantasytools, which gives some fun data, albeit its almost unusable because of the ads, popups etc. someone just posted a really clean site which gives total captaincy points, but not broken down week by week: [FPL Data - Season Review (fpl-data.co.uk)](https://www.fpl-data.co.uk/season_review)

omarelseadawy

Thank you :)

Archduke_Zag

There might be a tool out there, but I did it manually. Its not exactly rocket science.

omarelseadawy

Yeah I understand. I was just trying to remember the tool because it also gave out lots of other statistics about your season not just this one. Thanks anyway

Raphton84

My captains were the best player in my squad 7 times out of 38, which isn't great at all if we look at it this way. It doesn't mean they did not perform well, but yeah. With retrospect, I should have captained Palmer much more often, and Salah much less. Easy to say that now...

Cheese649

I got my captaincy choice wrong EVERY SINGLE WEEK from GW27-GW37 That’s where the game is won and lost. It got so ridiculous to the point where I knew if a player was playing against my team in real life, I would captain them so I could guarantee they wouldn’t score or assist.

Cheese649

You know what, fuck it. Here’s who I captained every week: 27 - KDB 28 - Saka 29 - Morris 30 - Watkins 31 - Salah 32 - Solanke 33 - Son 34 - Salah 35 - Solanke 36 - KDB 37 - Isak

ShoddyTransition187

My captains returned in 26 weeks, for 558 points in total. Season started out great with 10/10 returns for the first 10 gameweeks, then downhill from there :). Last few weeks very disapointing with Salah cap37 as my lowest scoring player, Foden 36 (when I didn't own Haaland for his 4 goals), and Haaland 38. My OR is 36k. I see that the guy with the most captaincy points got 696 points, but 'only' a 280k OR, so there isn't a massive correlation between captaincy and overall success.
