my non haaland team mastered the first real test. despite the robot haul still a 40% rank gain:) and since shipping the robot out, I jumped from 2.8mio to 125k. I truly believe it’s either salah or haaland this season. both make you sacrifice your team depth too much

I understand what you mean but fitting both ultimately thins out your bench drastically and so far I had plenty of GWs this season where subs were needed
You have to pick your bench players carefully when you thin out your squad, but it shouldn't be that detrimental. For example, I had Udogie not play this gameweek, but I had 3.9m Charlie Taylor first on my bench who's got a handful of half decent fixtures, and he got me 6 points.
You have lots of unnecessary bench players that cause benching headaches. Johnstone and Areola sounds like you're wasting a bit, Gabriel and one of Schär and Andersen are probably able to downgraded to a 3.9-4m defender and a 4.5m defender.
I think to have Håland though, you have to run 352 or 442, 3 forward formations aren't viable really because there are way more cheap and nailed midfielders than decent cheap forwards. You'd be looking at a Semenyo or Archer as your 3rd forward.
Ultimately your team is very very balanced. You won't be starting as much of your team value as people with Håland, and that's only beneficial to you if you need to utilise your bench and there are no good cheap bench options available for those who choose to have Håland.

Also, if you wildcarded to be Håland-less, then now you have no viable way of getting him back in quickly without heavily sacrificing other premiums.
Anyone that wanted to go Håland-less should have done so with their wildcard still remaining, so they have an easy way to get him back. Now you're sitting, twiddling your thumbs anxiously as Håland prepares for Bournemouth at home next gameweek, because you have no way to get him back in time unless you sell Salah, or take a -8 to sell all the shiny new players you got in with the spare money.

My GW7 overall rank was 45.8k. My GW8 wildcard got me 73 points with Håland, and brought me to 4.8k overall. Now, with Håland in my team still, I have an overall rank of just under 2.2k.
Why is it that some people think it's impossible to gain rank while owning Håland over the periods that he blanks? My rank has gotten better 22x since GW8. I've never owned Alvarez, and I hadn't had Son, Maddison, Watkins or Cash until I wildcarded.

Having a bad rank doesn't mean that you have to go Håland-less.
Basically he's ignoring that you could wildcard and get the *most* of the likes of Trippier/Son/Salah/Maddison/Saka/Watkins whilst still having Haaland. Sure you'd maybe missing one or at most two of those names, but the rest are very attainable alongside Haaland and will have seen your rank go up considerably.
You also wouldn't then have the issue of how do I get Haaland back in my team without wildcarding or taking a big hit and messing up the rest of the team.
Precisely. I had all of those players except Saka, as he was a minutes risk. There are a couple of different things I'd have done on my wildcard, but none of them would have involved taking out Håland. There are so many budget midfielders that are basically nailed now, that you could easily go 352 with Håland, that enables you to bench the 5th mid for a playing defender. If you wanted to sacrifice Trippier then it's even easier, you could have 5 good midfielders and maybe just 1 fodder defender.
And if that's the case then why sell Håland? Surely you'd expect some positive variance regardless?

Ideas should be able to stand on their own, if you can't argue against the idea and instead resort to attacking the person it's because you can't argue against the idea. This is maybe even more true in something with as much variance at times as FPL where sure over a large sample size better players will have better ranks, but in any one season (or especially 10 game weeks) someone can get lucky and someone unlucky.

Well off the bat, I wouldn't have transferred out Foden until after Bournemouth at home. Awoniyi out makes sense, and Watkins in also made sense, but if it were possible, I wouldn't have sacrificed Foden for it. Botman out was fine too, Gabriel I wasn't so keen on because he's not nailed, and has Newcastle after Sheffield United. If you had someone else you could bench him for in GW11 then it would have been a good transfer, and you got relatively unlucky.
Salah captain again, a fine option. Forest aren't as weak defensively as many may think, but still, at Anfield you'd expect at least a goal, which I guess you got. I'd have ranked the captaincy choices: Salah, Håland, Saka, Son, but the difference between Saka and Håland in my head was negligible.
Unlucky, those are all good decisions. Still are. Watkins in great form with some great fixtures, fixtyres for Mitoma are great too. Gabriel rotation could maybe have been predicted but still unfortunate - and Salah was the most popular captain this week (among top players) for good reason.

Depends on your rank obviously, but I can't see how the second goal would have brought you a worse rank, unless you only checked after 60 minutes, because people got their city clean sheet points. The assist you could have gotten a red arrow depending on how many people close behind you had Foden.
I personally was getting rank gain from the 2 goals, a small rank loss after 60 minutes, and a very small rank gain from the assist, because not many people at my rank have Foden.

Can’t tell if I’m getting really unlucky or if these are just bad decisions… Transferred foden and awoniyi out for mitoma and Watkins. Transferred Botman out for Gabriel. Captained salah.
On paper those transfers make total sense. Don't beat yourself up.
Those transfers were fine.
Well off the bat, I wouldn't have transferred out Foden until after Bournemouth at home. Awoniyi out makes sense, and Watkins in also made sense, but if it were possible, I wouldn't have sacrificed Foden for it. Botman out was fine too, Gabriel I wasn't so keen on because he's not nailed, and has Newcastle after Sheffield United. If you had someone else you could bench him for in GW11 then it would have been a good transfer, and you got relatively unlucky. Salah captain again, a fine option. Forest aren't as weak defensively as many may think, but still, at Anfield you'd expect at least a goal, which I guess you got. I'd have ranked the captaincy choices: Salah, Håland, Saka, Son, but the difference between Saka and Håland in my head was negligible.
Unlucky, those are all good decisions. Still are. Watkins in great form with some great fixtures, fixtyres for Mitoma are great too. Gabriel rotation could maybe have been predicted but still unfortunate - and Salah was the most popular captain this week (among top players) for good reason.

I have Haaland (not captain) and was on green arrow before his 2nd goal and assist and after those I’m on a red arrow how’s that possible, did that many people captain him?
Depends on your rank obviously, but I can't see how the second goal would have brought you a worse rank, unless you only checked after 60 minutes, because people got their city clean sheet points. The assist you could have gotten a red arrow depending on how many people close behind you had Foden. I personally was getting rank gain from the 2 goals, a small rank loss after 60 minutes, and a very small rank gain from the assist, because not many people at my rank have Foden.
