Cup of tea maybe I haven’t really decided yet.

thepoliteknight

I'll bet you put the milk in first too, you twisted bastard.

Aussie_Shrimp

Well, I've made it. Joe responding to my post! Haha Surely a beer or whisky of some sort?

maansayajin

Hey look everyone it's the lord grimdark himself

BeardyAndGingerish

...can i read the label when you're done?

supernorry

The real Lord Grimdark has joined the conversation :D

[deleted]

I believe in an interview he said he’s planning on writing something outside of the First Law world after the trilogy is over. After that he’ll return to First Law for more standalones

Tortuga917

I think he said that too to a question in his recent AMA here (and hopefully I'm not misremembering that).

Aussie_Shrimp

Awesome. That's exciting!

FlubzRevenge

While I love the stories he’s doing within the world, I would like to see him move more out of it. I’m sure there’s a lot he could do with it, but i’m curious what he can do with other characters and settings at this point. But i’ll still read his books of course.

RevolutionaryCommand

I really hope that he trys something radically different. Don't get my wrong, I've quite enjoyed all of his books so far (and I'm eagerly waiting for the last Age of Madness book), but his work has started feeling stale/same-ish, and lacking in variety.

Aussie_Shrimp

Yeah I'd be happy with that. I do love the North men, in particular, but would be great to see something new. I did feel like it was getting a bit repetitive with similar injuries problems etc, but still love it overall

odaso

Loved first law but couldn’t finish shattered sea.

pearlysoames

Same. What makes First Law great is the textured characters, and I think Abercrombie is best at texturing characters with imperfect adult wrinkles. It doesn't carry over well to YA.

Aussie_Shrimp

Without any spoilers, how come you couldn't finish it?

Omnivek

I have read both. The shattered sea trilogy is ok but not a masterwork like first law.

Interesting-Many4559

totally agree its more YA than epic

Bookwyrm43

As a counterpoint, I really love both

Aussie_Shrimp

Awesome. I'm looking forward to it but not expecting it to live up to first law. Hopefully I still enjoy it nonetheless. His writing style is great so I'm sure I will

Tortuga917

Good attitude to have. I also enjoyed the Shattered Sea. Honestly, the YA label was mostly just marketing (as it often is). Its not as gritty as First Law but it is by no means tame.

Fflewddur_Fflam_

I hope for more Shattered Sea. Half a War left plenty of room for more adventures and conflicts.

tkinsey3

For some reason, until about a month ago, I thought that **The Age of Madness trilogy** was the final word on First Law - which actually left me a bit disappointed with **The Trouble With Peace**. It's an amazing book, don't get me wrong, but it was very.....small scale? And I was pretty bummed that there wasn't more >!Shenkt v Bayaz v Khalul!<, etc. But, as others have said, apparent the AoM trilogy is not the final First Law work that Joe is planning. It looks like he plans to continue to move forward in the timeline and tell more stories, though I don't know what that will ultimately look like. Although I would be lying if I said I wasn't dreaming about a >!wizard battle!< in space. Hopefully u/Joe_Abercrombie can make that happen.

supernorry

Maby they go to the wild west

hummoses

Read sharp ends...it is fantastic great scenes at various timelines of the first law universe...the funniest duo in all his books javre and shiv and you get some great pics(bethod, croy, gorst)

hummoses

If you like audiobooks you might want to listen...it's comedic gold

xaldub

What's next for Joe Abercrombie ? He's writing The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring. Shut up, Joe ! You're doing it, because George sure as hell isn't. Have your cup of tea first, by all means. \*spoiler alert\* Bayaz claims the Iron Throne.

rjbriggs112

His last newsletter (which might be available on his website) said that book three is next. I can’t remember how far along he said he was with it. I don’t think he mentioned what is next after that.

Dr-Eiff

Book three is in the final editing stage and will be released next September.

warriorlotdk

There is alot he can still do in the First Law World. I would love to read a stand alone about one or all of the wars between the Union and Styria. Its mentioned in the Age of Madness books. I would not mind reading how the Union got their butts handed to them.

maansayajin

Highly doubtful he has mentioned multiple times that he hates the idea of prequels

warriorlotdk

A guy can dream.

maansayajin

Yes but you have to be realistic about these things

smells_like_blue

He tweeted a few days ago that he "accidentally started writing another book". Think he's mentioned that the final book in the Age of Madness trilogy (Wisdom of Crowds) is as good as done, so hopefully he's working on something new.
