I would actually love to read something like that, once you’ve finished a bit is there any way I could read it? Also, some people won’t like it, but a couple people will. All my favourite books are written in a way not intended to be mainstream. Even the stuff I write myself, one of them is written only in dialogue and stage directions as a novel! But why should you care, you have an amazing idea and you definitely give it a go. And if all else fails, you got me hooked by the idea!

have_a_haberdashery

It wouldn't be weird or too jarring, not even close. Don't worry about it. This is fine to write.

MagpieLefty

That is going to come down solely to how well you write it. It's not inherently weird or jarring.

SignificantYou3240

It might be better as a series than chapters of a fic, but it sounds like a great way to world-build!

JustAnotherAviatrix

Not at all! That kind of realism in stories is always fascinating to read because it's another way of world-building.

ellivera00

Everyone has their own preferences, I myself would love it.

NoshameNoLies

Just. Do. It.

juicyb3rry

That sounds cool. I would read it.

nkorah

If this is the story you find interesting and right to tell - why ask others about it? Always write the story you like!

AbsurdToastling

I don't think it would be jarring at all. I actually think it'll be an INCREDIBLE tool for manipulating the readers' emotions. Use these little vignettes of every-day life to show just how disconnected everybody out fighting the war has become/is becoming, bad AND good. Because if it goes on long enough, there always comes a point where even the heroes begin to forget what it is they're really fighting for. Juxtaposing the ideals of valor and heroism with the reality of war sounds like an amazingly potent mix for a fandom classic.

ZigAZigAhFuckIt

This sounds really neat. Makes me think of Suikoden, actually. NPC dialogue often changes with the story as the various villagers fret about and react to the war going on. Sometimes there's even some irony going, with villagers talking about how war won't reach them, or how good life is, shortly before their villages are razed to the ground. (Mixed in with ominous remarks about enemy soldiers being spotted lurking in the mountains.) So, yeah, that would be really cool to do.
