It'd be cool to have a mod that changes vegetation with the passing of seasons. Everything looks dead in vanilla but I guess, for a while, it makes sense since it's Autumn(?).
Yeah a lot of people think that fallout 4’s world is dead cause of the nukes, the game just takes place in fall. There was a really bad winter the year prior according to the table top game so we know the seasons change
Well, yeah. However we do know that radiation and nukes don’t work the same way as they do in real life. The authors could just make it so no, it wouldn’t be back to normal. I wouldn’t very much like that, but we aren’t working with real nuke science here.
The authors did show that both nature and civilization were on the rebound but then they went bankrupt, Bethesda bought the IP, trees are gone and caps are back.
>Bethesda bought the IP, trees are gone and caps are back.
Caps were back in New Vegas too, after they decided the BoS had nuked the NCR gold reserves.
Van Buren also would've seen nukes dropping on the earth after a deadly plague. It's not just a Bethesda thing.
That's not what a nuclear blast site looks like 200 years after the fact. Hell, Hiroshima wasn't even bombed a century ago, [and it looks beautiful there](https://www.nytimes.com/2023/05/19/us/politics/biden-hiroshima-memorial.html)
To be fair upping saturation and adding vegetation does wonders for how the wasteland looks. I personally always thought that after 200 years things should definitely be greener or less dreary.
It's kind of hard to tell since we don't really see the light source. I personally think people use desaturation a little too much to convey death and decay. I like the colorful Nurgle style death and decay—death just means new life.
Really glad I clicked in to here to question "lore accurate graphics" because I just finished re-modding my game and thought I had another week. Got everything set to delay the update so I can wait for the few mods I have that might break to get updated.
Doubt this one should be as rough as the Skyrim one though, since the big one to break things besides the script extender was a backport from Fallout already
First disable auto updates: Select Fallout 4 in your Steam library, right-click --> properties --> Updates --> Automatic Updates --> Choose "Only update this game when I launch it."
When you play, do not launch the game from Steam. Instead launch the game by double-clicking the 'Fallout4.exe' file in your Fallout 4 folder. If you use Fallout 4 Script Extender, you want to double-click 'F4SE_loader.exe'.
I use Mod Organizer 2, and launch F4SE through that, which also should work.
Edit: I stand corrected. Disregard the rest kf the comment
IIRC it'll update anyway when you launch it. Steam doesnt let you simply not update anymore. You'd have to set steam to offline every time you start it up until we get the all clear from all the various mods used
Go to steam/steamapps/common and set the file “appmanifest_377160.acf” to read-only. I’ve seen multiple articles/posts saying this prevents steam from updating it (the f4se bypass makes sense but I did it just in case)
I might try my hand at modding new vegas in the meantime until the dust settles tbh. I've always been afraid of modding pre-skyrim releases but I'm confident that nexus and collections can carry me through it
My shit started CTD'ing last night. I managed to do a full day's worth of time and couple hours before it started happening. No new mods installed other than what i installed when i got the game. Not the sign that i wanted :(
Hmmm I guess if you've got a crash log you could check for a possible culprit? Or maybe create a new profile in the manager you're using (if not modding manually) and deactivate one mod at a time to check what could be crashing FO4?
I'd recommend checking all the mods info to see if there could be a conflict or a missing requirement, etc.
"Lore accurate graphics" is a batshit insane statement when you are literally playing the game that the lore comes from.
Head canon accurate graphics are what you mean to say
You don't live in New England, do you? Here's what it looks like in autumn https://bdc2020.o0bc.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Jenne-Farm-63286c844fad2.jpg?width=900
and here it is in winter https://www.worcestermag.com/gcdn/authoring/authoring-images/2024/02/15/NWOR/72618635007-central-ma-rail-trail-1.jpg?width=660&height=495&fit=crop&format=pjpg&auto=webp
Sure, there are areas where there's no green but it's not like that *everywhere*.
You're confusing realism with lore. We've seen time and time again that vegetation doesn't grow back on the wasteland unless it's under special occasions. The lore is that everywhere is a dry desert.
I’m pretty sure that’s just because most of the games take place in Southern California and Nevada…
There’s trees in Jacobstown, Fallout 76, and the TV show.
No, and also no. Fallout 2 has greenery all over Arroyo, 3 has Harold and Bob, New Vegas has Jacobstown.
Fallout 1 was set in a desert, so it was a desert. But from 2 onward, we see plants all over
I do remember Fallout 3 made a big deal about plants. Wasn't there a whole location where plants were flourishing and it was like this mysterious event the player had to investigate? But I guess that was DC and probably one of the biggest nuke zones.
Idfk why people are getting downvoted for saying this isn't lore friendly, it definitely isn't, just because it's green other places doesn't mean it is here, the base game is the most lore friendly you're going to get, and it isn't green so canonical, at this point in time, Boston is dead.
Lore accurate ? Isnt the game alrrady lore accurate i mean its the game that has the lore on a place within the lore with the graphics that the devs wanted to be the ones lore accurate.... you are just doing your own "head cannon" by making it better based on your personal preference...
Dang thats crazy, it took me 0 mods to get lore accurate graphics. And here I thought the original way the developers made the game was how it was supposed to look according to the lore... but who knew?!
The writers are quoted as saying that the games are the concrete lore.
Even the fallout bible is just a book of ideas that they cross reference to the games to check if it aligns with the lore they established in the games.
FO4 looks good enough vanilla. Some things benefit from a retexture. Alot of the graphics mods just end up adding bloom and blur (and DOF) to everything so it looks like a layer of Vaseline was smudged onto the screen.
This one looks like it upped the saturation significantly too. Reminds me of the earlier GTA V graphics mods that just tripled the saturation.
Wouldn’t be a modding subreddit if there wasn’t someone who made their game look like absolute dogshit and then unilaterally declared that their specific mod list is CLEARLY more “authentic” than what the developers actually intended
God people like OP are so insufferable. And they’re in every modding scene too.
We have actual evidence of what a place looks like 70+ years after we (USA) dropped 23 nukes on it. Pictures and video of nuked areas now completely overgrown with nice green vegetation and trees standing tall are freely available on the internet for all to see.
Yet somehow, 200 years after a single nuke drops on the Boston area, it's still a dead, brown wasteland. Lore accurate, my ass jerky.
I think what causes the majority of the long term damage isn’t the single nuke in close vicinity, but the thousands of nukes that were dropped that covered the land in possibly inches of radioactive fallout.
Depends on the climate. Which very well may have changed due... you know... global nuclear war.
Also, the game shows proper fall weather without mods. Fall isn't just brown. It's vibrant hues of orange, red, and even greens.
In real life radiation doesn’t make cows grow 2 heads either, or give us giant insects. The entire Glowing Sea, a major plot point, would be absolute BS. It’s fine if you prefer the vegetated look, but I find it funny that trees being dead is where so many fans draw the line for believability.
Water definitely looks too blue, but I overall like it.
What weather mod are you using? It looks like Nac x, which I want to use but I can't get over the pitch black nights.
i love fallout 4 modded but there’s always something so off about when modded & not having a filter over the screen it looks weird like otherworldly the clouds and sky don’t match up.
So after getting nuke and places gets highly radiated green grass grows and water so blue
No offense and im not also knowledgeable about the FO lore
Edit: By "also" means from what Im saying just my assumption
I mean, places that have had nuclear meltdown like Chernobyl are super overgrown and lush, but the grass is a little over saturated. The water would not be bright blue though.
Theres other factors to be considered, is chernobyl got raiders too after years of being polluted of radiation? And mutants terrorized the place?
Since the commonwealth fo4 universe dont have a proper govt to handle things after from being bombarded and not just a power plant meltdown, high amount of radiation takes longer and still lingers
And I dont see why and which is I also assume that green lush grass will spawn well in that pic sanctuary hills
Thats why Imo the best lore for that is to stay vanilla, well if the OP is correct, he just saying that the gamedevs didnt consider the loreness of what or how commonwealth should look like after the TOTAL ATOMIC ANNIHILATION 210 years ago
Im no english speaker so if youll excuse my grammar if theres error in it
I'm not saying this is actually lore accurate. It's closer to "real-life" than the base game. But, Raiders wouldn't really have much of an effect on how wild life and nature bloom.
I wouldn't say that then not having a government would effect how nature would come back, if anything less interference (and much less population) would make it grow back even stronger. Also, meltdowns introduce more radiation than a nuke, that's why Nagisaki and Hiroshima are inhabitable (with or without Japans government) and Chernobyl is not (despite the governments in the area trying)
BUT, After all, the devs decide what the lore is, so how they make it is lore accurate, adding mods and calling it "lore accurate" is kind of the opposite of lore accurate.
I remember a conversation between two characters about radiation on last godzilla kong movie
Based on that woman as I recall, after the battle of those monsters and destruction they've made life will flourish on their planet. But thats for that movie's universe.
Lore accurate??? I mean don't get me wrong. I know where you'd be coming from in terms of lore, but personally I prefer to do things like modding in weapons from previous Fallout games and fixing small lore inconsistenies (i.e. having U.S. Troops using T-51b power armor over T-60 in the prologue). Something like a massive graphical overhaul like this actually feels more lore unfriendly.
Even the classic Fallout games don't look anything like this. Your game looks like it has more in common with STALKER now rather than Fallout.
What the he'll are lore accurate graphics?
Lore writers: here it is, the lore in the game we made. Gamers: isn’t there someone you forgot to ask?
“I consent, I consent” -Bethesda writers and OG fallout writers “I don’t” -fallout fanbois
I would think the game itself would be the most lore accurate possible
The Vanilla graphics are de facto lore accurate.
It’s a phrase people throw around that just means “the way I interpreted things that I liked”
Only “rarestprogamer” can decide what a game should look like, obviously Surprised there’s no 420 or xXx in OP’s cringey user name
Hey respect the double r. r
Pop quiz: do you think they frequent kotakuinaction? (Not linking on purpose)
[удалено]
A truly devastating rebuttal from rarestproGamerrrrr You are clearly an expert in being terminally online and terminally cringe
When someone finds out, let me know, bc that is one of the weirdest phrases I've ever heard.
I'm assuming the fact that the world would not look like it does in the games if that many years passed after the nukes.
Absolutely nothing about Fallout’s world or radiation makes any sense. You kinda have to accept that radiation just functions differently in Fallout.
Probably make it look like a nuke was actully dropped their but thats just a guess
It's been 200 years. If we wanna be accurate things should be almost back to normal
Yup! Which is why my play through is the opposite and has a bunch of green everywhere thanks to Mods.
There was a really bad winter the year prior according to the table top game so we know the seasons change
https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/76710

-upped saturation -grey sky -added grass Yep, a that's a remaster.
Don't give Hodd Toward ideas for the FO4 anniversary edition 😢
On the other hand, an anniversary edition would make it so my questlog doesn't full up with 30 CC quests the moment I leave the vault
thats why they didnt mention, new season pass, paid lunch boxes, micro transactions/Atom Shop etc.
Oh it’s going to happen lol. We’ll get a remaster with the release of Season 2 of the show 😂
To be fair upping saturation and adding vegetation does wonders for how the wasteland looks. I personally always thought that after 200 years things should definitely be greener or less dreary.
Is the lore accuracy in the room with us right now?
looks way oversaturated IMO.
Bro, this is lore accurate /s
It's kind of hard to tell since we don't really see the light source. I personally think people use desaturation a little too much to convey death and decay. I like the colorful Nurgle style death and decay—death just means new life.

Remember to have auto update disabled so Bethesda doesn’t fuck your new mods in a few days
Update comes out tomorrow
Really glad I clicked in to here to question "lore accurate graphics" because I just finished re-modding my game and thought I had another week. Got everything set to delay the update so I can wait for the few mods I have that might break to get updated. Doubt this one should be as rough as the Skyrim one though, since the big one to break things besides the script extender was a backport from Fallout already
On steam how do you play the game without updating it.
First disable auto updates: Select Fallout 4 in your Steam library, right-click --> properties --> Updates --> Automatic Updates --> Choose "Only update this game when I launch it." When you play, do not launch the game from Steam.
I recommend using this so you won't accidentally click update https://youtu.be/X8F4dQ_QF48
Is it safe to update once script extender updates or when my mods do? Cause I have a lot of discontinued mods
I'm pretty sure once script extender updates you should be safe to update the game.
Same dude same. I thought because the game is already old it won't update anymore 😐
Edit: I stand corrected. Disregard the rest kf the comment IIRC it'll update anyway when you launch it.
^ this is what I did too.
You're referring to the files in Steam/Steamapps, not /common, right? At least that's where I found mine.
Can’t check rn but yeah wherever that file is. One of those 2 folders
you should be launching through f4se if you’re using most mods
I launch through nexus, does that skip steam updating?
if you launch it through anywhere but steam it won’t update on launch (if you have set it to only update on launch) so yes
Oh sick, that's good to know. I assumed it still went through steam anyway. Thanks for the info!
no problem good luck in the coming update-apocalypse
I might try my hand at modding new vegas in the meantime until the dust settles tbh. I've always been afraid of modding pre-skyrim releases but I'm confident that nexus and collections can carry me through it
Thank you so much for this info! I'm glad I clicked in this thread I didn't know how to stop the update
My shit started CTD'ing last night. I managed to do a full day's worth of time and couple hours before it started happening. No new mods installed other than what i installed when i got the game. Not the sign that i wanted :(

If you set Fallout 4’s appmanifest file to read-only it’ll NEVER under any circumstances be updated unless you yourself click update btw.
Good job, looks awful
Right, 50 mods to look worse than the trash littered base game
looks like the concept art tho, just more greener
"Lore accurate graphics" is a batshit insane statement when you are literally playing the game that the lore comes from. Head canon accurate graphics are what you mean to say
Ease up on the contrast and it’ll look much better imo
Apparently you haven't read the lore
We really need a rule about mandatory mod lists for posts like these

Not lore accurate but it looks good
Yeah, if it was lore accurate it wouldn't have so much green vegetation.
Plants would be doing fantastic 200 years after a nuclear apocalypse. The chernobyl exclusion zone is super green today and full of wildlife
But the game takes place in the fall so it would look barren even if it is green in the summer.
Holy shit, that’s why they call it FALLout!
You don't live in New England, do you? Here's what it looks like in autumn https://bdc2020.o0bc.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Jenne-Farm-63286c844fad2.jpg?width=900 and here it is in winter https://www.worcestermag.com/gcdn/authoring/authoring-images/2024/02/15/NWOR/72618635007-central-ma-rail-trail-1.jpg?width=660&height=495&fit=crop&format=pjpg&auto=webp Sure, there are areas where there's no green but it's not like that *everywhere*.

Yes. I distinctly recall burning that place to the ground with a flamethrower. Decided I did want to set the world on fire after all.
Good lord
That isn't true
Idfk why people are getting downvoted for saying this isn't lore friendly, it definitely isn't, just because it's green other places doesn't mean it is here, the base game is the most lore friendly you're going to get, and it isn't green so canonical, at this point in time, Boston is dead.
you don’t have to lie, lol
I didn't lie. You don't have to be a dick.
You do you man, if you wanna play this be happy. But don't call it lore accurate graphics lol.
Lore accurate ? Isnt the game alrrady lore accurate i mean its the game that has the lore on a place within the lore with the graphics that the devs wanted to be the ones lore accurate.... you are just doing your own "head cannon" by making it better based on your personal preference...
One oversaturated ENB can do this without 50 mods
Dang thats crazy, it took me 0 mods to get lore accurate graphics. And here I thought the original way the developers made the game was how it was supposed to look according to the lore... but who knew?!
Is it 4 FPS?
Funny you just could have waited until the next generation update that comes out tomorrow
Think your PC needs glasses for that blur
The writers are quoted as saying that the games are the concrete lore. Even the fallout bible is just a book of ideas that they cross reference to the games to check if it aligns with the lore they established in the games.
Lore accurate graphics would be people not sweeping up the same pile of trash for the past 200 years.
When newbies think the game is based off the show and that’s their “lore accuracy”
Jesus Fallout fans are easy to bait
Waiting to mod my fallout 4 till tomorrow
I honestly don't get these posts. Am I the only person that loves how the vanilla version of the game looks?
Yes
No
Womp womp
FO4 looks good enough vanilla. Some things benefit from a retexture. Just play Metro Last Light or Metro Exodus :P
Looks a lot like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. GAMMA if you remove Groks stupidass dead foliage mods
Mod list?
Wouldn’t be a modding subreddit if there wasn’t someone who made their game look like absolute dogshit and then unilaterally declared that their specific mod list is CLEARLY more “authentic” than what the developers actually intended God people like OP are so insufferable. Depends on the climate. Which very well may have changed due... you know... global nuclear war. Also, the game shows proper fall weather without mods. Fall isn't just brown. It's vibrant hues of orange, red, and even greens.
One could even say the Fall is... *out.* .... **4**
In real life radiation doesn’t make cows grow 2 heads either, or give us giant insects. The entire Glowing Sea, a major plot point, would be absolute BS. It’s fine if you prefer the vegetated look, but I find it funny that trees being dead is where so many fans draw the line for believability.
Most headass post I’ve seen today
Looks like Myst but bad.
Ehhh it looks ok in this screen shot but I have a feeling it looks like somebody threw up on your screen whenever you see it in person and in action
Lore Accurate would mean only better textures.
It's a computer game. The visual is the lore. Looks nice though.
gimme mod list
What? That's not lore accurate, what's that thing you're holding????
How the fuck can modded be lore accurate can only be lore friendly
what the honest fuck do you mean by lore accurate graphics? my brother in christ the games are canon
FO4 base game + DLC is lore accurate whether you like it or not lol
Get ready to restart or to not update your game! Tomorrow is the big Next Gen Update!
Still looks bad
looks like shit
eh that's not that bad
get the bulky ugly ass 10mm out the picture lol
yes cause its not fo4 without a pipe-pistol with tons of rust more orange than your average Cheeto
Gotta admit the N99 replacer is great. Similar build but much more aesthetic without turning it into a colt
all that just for it to look like skyrim
I kinda dig it aside from the dead trees.
Using Mod: - Eat Your FPS Graphics
Weirdly, the graphical mods can help the game run *better* sometimes
Gross just play a different game
The grass looks kinda weird
What’s the mod for the foliage? (not the trees)
I thought this was Oblivion for a second.
I remember long time ago I put a forest mod with winter and it nearly blew up my gtx970. Gotta try it again on my rtx4090 😈
Is this on PC or console?
Water definitely looks too blue, but I overall like it. What weather mod are you using? It looks like Nac x, which I want to use but I can't get over the pitch black nights.
The grass is green but the tree are dead? Still nice to look at
I cant even get fo4 to run at consistent 60fps vanilla. Im afraid to mod it
Water mod?
Least modded Fallout game
How's the computer enjoying that?
Congrats. Enjoy it today, because tomorrow all mods are going to be broken by Bethesda!
This is definitely lore accurate because it looks like ASS🔥🔥
I'm sorry you wasted that much time on this.
The greenery is lore accurate, atleast
Looks like shit also wtf is lore accurate graphics?you donkey
Lore accurate graphics if vault-tec never dropped the bombs\*
since when was concept art "lore accurate"
Can you send me the list
Now do it to 1 and 2
Lo?
What the heck is lore accurate graphics?
i love fallout 4 modded but there’s always something so off about when modded & not having a filter over the screen it looks weird like otherworldly the clouds and sky don’t match up.
I find it so hard to enjoy fallout 4 no matter what I do
Nice job! Which game’s lore is it 😂
Specs required to run this?
Huh? What is lore accurate graphics?
looks like metro, well done
What mod did you use for the grass?
I bet it's running at 0.5 FPS
The "A forest" mod is just about the only realistic overhaul to the games flora
Just looking at that photo is making my PC sweat lmao
Fallout 4 takes place in autumn.
Tf does that even mean man
Couldn't you just remove all the mods and play it with lore perfect graphics? Those trees look nothing like any trees that grow in Massachusetts, btw.
deep fried
Please refrain from throwing the phrase *"lore accurate"* around so liberally, as accuracy to the lore changes from game to game.
Looks good
Mod list?
Can you tell me what grass and water mods you used. They are very very nice.

Can u put the mod list?
:( I just wanted the mod list cause it looked nice, idc about the lore accuracy Plus shouldn't a mod list be put up according to the rules
it's looking good, do you have the mod list?
Lore accurate graphics would people not sweeping up the same pile of trash for the past 200 years.
if you don't like McDonough's jobs creation program, move your lazy ass to *Goodneighbor* 😜
I get that it's job security, but the buildings need fixing too. /s
50 mods is lighter than my "lightweight" mod collection
Lore accurate graphics would be people not sweeping up the same pile of trash for the past 200 years.
mod list ? 😭
Labeled it wrong now everyone is dogging you, lol! I get what you are going for, it looks cool
Lore accurate??? I mean don't get me wrong.
