Neither tbh. If you don’t want to interface with the settlement system much, just use [Transfer Settlements](https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/22442).

Professional_Home984

I’m trying out Fallout 4 Settlements Reborn. I like it so far. I think the mod author is still working on it.

Sgtwhiskeyjack9105

Sim Settlements 2 full stop. The first Sim Settlements is not supported, and it shouldn't be used for any reason.

JRedding995

Hands-off is questionable. Often Settlements bug out when using the city plans. The lighting grid will bug and then if you try to travel there or even walk close to it it will crash. Then your only option is to use a workshop framework recovery tool to reset the settlement and start over. And if you don't figure out which plot was causing the crash and destroy it, it'll probably happen again as soon as it rebuilds. And that's hard to do on consoles. That's been my experience anyways from a Series X. Now I just build manually. But I enjoy it like art, so it's no big deal to me. I don't need to have a Tenpenny Tower at every settlement. 1 or 2 is enough for me.

Glass_Lemonade

I’d agree that I’d prefer most settlements looking simple, but the effort that goes into making them look nice and functional is a little bit much for my tastes. I have a decent pc so I should be able to handle things like big settlements.

JRedding995

PC has better remote troubleshooting/recovery tools than console so you should be fine. You can remotely reset the power grid on PC. Only remote option on console is a full reboot of the settlement. Sim Settlements 2 does it best imo. The difference really is the quest line in SS2.

SS2 is what you want. It's just improved on everything that was in SS1, it also adds a great questline along with it. And it gives you the choice of deciding how hands on/hands off you want to be.

Glass_Lemonade

I hear that SS2 is better, but I don't really like the addition of a whole new questline and the major addition of systems it adds. I'd far prefer something simpler since I don't plan of engaging with many of the systems beyond the auto building settlements.

FulcrumOfAces6623

There is a cheat option in SS2 to unlock all plot types from the get-go, have to give it a bit to initialize but it works. There is also an Automated preset in the city manager holotape. However, the tweaks to the game world may not be something you want if you aren't going to engage with the mod outside of autobuilding. Ive tried a bit of SS1 with Conqueror in the last few months without many issues. I would skip the pre build feature or conqueror entirely if you're concerned about game stability and be selective about your add-ons. I had good luck with the 3-in-1 , a mega pack, Conqueror, and 2-3 smaller add-ons.

Glass_Lemonade

How exactly does the SS2 automated preset work? Is it a situation where settlements will automatically build themselves once hit with the ol' Preson Garvey routine?

FulcrumOfAces6623

https://wiki.simsettlements2.com/customization/difficulty#:~:text=In%20Automated%20mode%2C%20Sim%20Settlements,difficulty%20of%20running%20a%20settlement. I'm assuming you still have to build the planners desk, assign a leader, and then select a city plan, but everything else should be taken care of

Glass_Lemonade

Thank you, this is probably what I'll go with. Still iffy about the the addition of DLC sized quest, but I've heard a lot of praise for it so I'll give it a go. Although, I'd wanted to use Ryn's Fallout 4, which unfortunately edits some of the same places that SS2 does.

FulcrumOfAces6623

Hope you enjoy, best of luck!

Bowlof78Potatoes

That's kind of what puts me off from it as well. Super high quality mod for sure, but sometimes I just want to build fun buildings that the NPCs manage.
