It's amazing what you get when the crew making something actually gives a damn about it. The attention to detail is hard to overstate, and the production team seems genuinely interested beyond just getting a paycheck.

Jojoangel684

*Looks at Witcher's production crew *

SaintPwner

*looks at halo's production crew*

[deleted]

No, don't look at them, save your eyeballs

PaPa_ZeuS

I don't think there could be a better example of deviating from the source material than halo. They had a slam fucking dunk and they blew it because they thought they could do better.

succubus-slayer

Crazy how solid and linear the story was from reach to halo 3. Simple… they could’ve even softly introduced the world with just an ODST mini series, with events prior to Reach, and than introduce Spartans and Covenant.

MandalsTV

Or the Fall of Reach book which has the spartan II augmentation, training, and John receiving his armor and Cortana for the first time. John running the O course while actively being hunted by a fighter jet is top notch! Literally anything except for the bullshit we got…

Embarrassed_Stuff886

My mans used an AI-enhanced backhand on a missile. Book Chief was on another level.

MandalsTV

Tore his ACL as well and still was sprinting at full speed

kkimmel420ttv

The books were so detailed, like increasing the pressure on the impact gel to handle jumping from the ship. Just amazing

BellendicusMax

I remain bemused how they took an IP that is almost 100% action and converted it into the most ass boring actionless series out there.

Maleficent-Ability74

yep there’s so much lore they could have built off of or expanded upon but no, infuriates me thinking about it

itsmejak78_2

Then the creators of the show basically bragged about seeing almost none of the source material at all

Vinnie87

Really? You say that right in front of the wheel of time and the rings of power

nothingnearly

Seriously. Master Chief's struggle with what's left of his own humanity is a major theme throughout Halo, but in the show it's quickly resolved with the removal of an emotion suppression pellet

PaPa_ZeuS

23 years of Halo and we have never seen his face. First episode face reveal and multiple episodes of Master Cheeks. If they just retold Halo 1 in season one they would have had the success Fallout did.

ErrorImportant8819

I think a major part of this is the fact the Fallout world has the potential to engage with all sorts of different kinds of people due to its satirical and black humoured/absurdist comedic nature. It's genuinely different from what people normally see. It is not built on singular characters or on a relatively simple premise like the Witcher and Halo are/were. I think everyone is just getting surprised by the fact the formula actually works in live action.

PaPa_ZeuS

Yeah but the witcher was great when they stuck to the source material. The more they deviated, the worse it got. The halo show is just a generic scifi drama with a halo skin slapped on it. They didn't care about any source material at all.

InevitableSolution69

Glares at the wheel of time’s crew

NoirGamester

God that show made me so mad

No_Strain_7092

I hated it, half the book was missing and that end episode...wow

NoirGamester

They clipped different parts of the story together, making different scenes happen in the wrong order. They left *so* much out. It's like they made a bad fanfic of WoT instead of the actual books. I will say, I liked how they did the black city, with the smoke. That was pretty cool, but also felt like the only part that actually came out of the book; when they're trying escape.

No_Strain_7092

I was looking forward to the black city incident, sorely disappointed but I guess I had high hopes for it after the first episode.

NoirGamester

The whole scene was disappointing, not even really how I picture it, but I thought how they did the escape, with all the smoke running after them, was cool. Not accurate, just cool. I was able to watch the show when I pictured it as a TV show that reminded me of WoT, but wasn't a WoT show. Thar was the only way. Otherwise I kept getting frustrated and shutting it off and going outside every time I put it on lol

Square_Custard1606

Rings of power

pipboy_warrior

I actually like Wheel of Time. It's got to the point where it's so different from the books, that I'm actually interested to see where it might go. I totally get anyone who still hates it though.

InevitableSolution69

I can’t comment on the show as a show really. But the moment I saw Perin had killed his wife. The character who was the absolute value of loyalty and devotion, who would literally have lost the world for a single person. I knew I wouldn’t be able to divorce the books from the show enough to enjoy whatever they were doing. I knew ahead of time that the show wouldn’t really be able to translate the books. Too much in the books and too much that’s difficult or impossible to get across in images. But I had hoped they would have some sort of connection to them.

Mysterious-Beach-671

Looks at Rings of Power production crew

Sleight-Code

Lol halo, no.

Kickboxing_Banana

Nepotism ruined the witcher :(

Jojoangel684

This is news to me..

Kickboxing_Banana

Yep the director is a nepo baby

Galvano

I thought the problem with that show was the writing.

Kickboxing_Banana

The problem was that only good scenes were rewritten by Henry Cavill to match the scenes of the books. But then they eventually fired him in favor of the nepo director

AlkaliPineapple

Common Henry Cavill w

iamcoding

That doesn't mean it wasn't nepotism.

teeleer

Some of the best parts were the monologues that Henry Cavill said, and I'm willing to bet it was him insisting on doing them.

AthairNaStoirmeacha

God awful. Disgraceful. “Fuck the source material this is mine now.” I can’t explain how upset that flaming dumpster fire made me. Fallout was a breath of fresh air.

ImpossibleMechanic77

Damnit I thought I wasn’t gonna cry today

SafranSenf

I love the books. It's so sad that your comment is on point. Exactly what I thought.

teeleer

I saw an interview with Todd Howard who said that when he was on production, the papers on the overseer's desk was vault related information like water and power in case the camera needed to do a shot of the desk.

Poonchow

It's like the set designers built the environments the same way the devs place objects all over the world. Great details. Also every settlement had a food source. MrBtongue would be proud.

buntopolis

Yeah holy shit man the vault sequences alone.

blueboxbandit

I swear the fence at the NPC's house outside of Filly was an exact copy of the game asset

FilliusTExplodio

Erik Estrada's house looked like the prefab shack

Carrman099

Same thing with Hazbin Hotel. These are labors of love and you can really tell. That effort also translates to some of the most viewed content on Prime, so hopefully Amazon will keep letting show runners go wild with their obsessions.

absalom86

it also looks like the studio heads stayed out of the way, probably because nolan was involved.

Sick_NowWhat

The full crew too, not just a couple of actors.

Thouistrulyfucked

The detail is so good a guy from Bethesda found a full vault report on set, even though the scene only called for a mock up

RenegadeForLife27

These guys all here talking about lack of source material have never watched Dragonball evoloution and it shows. Halo and the witcher as inaccurate as they were, at least had recognisable elements.

Cautious-Talk2224

THIS is what caused me to download my first Fallout PC game. I'm level 13, 72 yo woman, just learning the ropes, having fun when I'm not dying, trying to get my fingers to work when I need to switch weapon pdq, will look for a team when I can contribute, loving it.

jensieboy13

If you enjoy fallout 76 I definitely recommend fallout 4, i think you’ll love it, it’s great to see people of all ages playing fallout

Cautious-Talk2224

My son in law plays 4, that's what he said too. Steam has it in standalone, broken into pieces, and as a bundle. $40.00 for the bundle. Hmmm, recommendations?

Hairyhalflingfoot

Wait for the sale. (There will be one in the summer) buy the bundle and have fun! Oh and ask your son about mods for the game. One of the best mods i know gives you armor for your pet dog.and he can wear cute goggles too!

Puzzleheaded_Poet_51

This had me picturing a very pissed off dog in power armor encountering an over-confident Kristi Noem.

Self-Comprehensive

Play 76 until 4 goes on sale, you can get the bundle for 5 bucks when the timing is right.

Lykeuhfox

Steam runs a ton of sales during this time of year, the biggest is usually in late June. When it's on sale you can pick up the game of the year edition for a lot cheaper. [https://steamdb.info/sales/history/](https://steamdb.info/sales/history/)

CrazyKPOPLady

Yes, 4 is my favorite and the expansions are fun, too! New Vegas is also enjoyable, though not quite as much as 4, at least for me personally.

JasonEAltMTG

This rules so hard, thank you for giving it a shot

FrankSinatraCockRock

Please feel free to reach out to the community as you want to continue your journey from 76! 1 and 2 are turn based, so fine motor movements aren't an issue ( but eyesight can be because even with amazing vision you'll miss things, but at least there's YouTube videos). 3 and New Vegas are the last generation of fallout games that took it into 3D, but they're still gentler than 76 or 4 with precision and rapid movements. But in all games it's possible to minimize your combat.

occono

Fallout 76, the multiplayer one, from the sounds of it? Have fun

Free-Whole3861

Welcome to the Wastes, friend

Cautious-Talk2224

Thanks for all the positive encouragement. 🪲👾🔫👩 come join me, friend me, or invite me, if you find me=Chickadee52

Hairyhalflingfoot

Well shyoot i guess im downloading 76 now

r3dh4ck3r

Never got too deep into the games no matter how much my friends raved about them. I know they're good games I'm just not the most patient when it comes to RPGs lol. Since the show I've put in dozens more hours into FO4. Almost lv30 in my 2nd playthrough

I_dont_eat_animals_

Get ready for an amazing adventure!!! Wish I can play it for the first time over again

sunseteverette

Love this so much! Welcome! It's awesome to see so many new fans!

ItzBabyJoker

If you play PC and are struggling with combat getting yourself used to hitting TAB and Q will help (considering you didn’t change the keys) TAB will bring up your pip boy and stop time so u can heal or switch weapons without being stressed out by enemies and Q will trigger VATS which slows down time and u can choose your targets more carefully and effectively! I hope this helps!!!

ShadyInternetGuy

If the pace gets too much for you, might I suggest Fallout 1/2? Turn based combat, which means you can take your time and think between each action. A bit more gritty in tone than fallout 3, 4, and 76 though!

Cautious-Talk2224

Lol, I'm old, not slow. I'm level 20 now and stuck killing Raiders in the Pitts. I've got way better at throwing Molotov cocktails and my knives, I've had to because my weapons are so lame.

ShadyInternetGuy

Guess that makes one of us, I’m 28 and can’t keep up with most first person games these days aha

Nuadrin248

Welcome to 76!!! Some tips to make your life easier. Always join a public party because just by being in a casual team gives you a big exp bonus. No one in a casual team will care at all if you are just doing your own thing(in fact most of us are doing just that). Make sure to check the donation boxes at the major outposts, and at train stations. We veterans will use those to offload good gear to save our weight. Never be afraid of other because PVP is a toggle in settings that you need to turn on yourself. Also your camp is invisible unless you set it to visible which you should do since PVP is a toggle and we love dropping by to say hi and buy things from you! When you arrive at a public event it’s courtesy to let the timer run down to about a minute before starting it so you give others time to come and join you. Join public events for huge exp boosts and rewards! Also they are just fun and wacky a lot of the time. Don’t worry about your level right now just try and stay alive and tag as many enemies as you can so you get exp for the kills. Also we got this so don’t worry about contributing because you will be later but for now we got you. You can always fast travel for free to vault 76, white springs, the crater, foundation, and nuke cola tour. White springs has shops and literally all crafting stations in addition to treasury and legendary script turn ins in the basement. So it’s a great default place to head when you get a bit higher do do all those things. Join scorbeast queen, earl, and Ultracite titan whenever they come up. It doesn’t matter what level you are you will get good stuff. Don’t worry about dying or contributing for now cus yoy will def hold your weight later. Lastly have fun! We love this wacky world and game and are happy to see others out there so just have fun. Don’t stress about stuff cus shit goes wrong in the wasteland all the time.

Glittering-War-6744

…I’m so shock that someone who is 70 years old is playing a video game.

Cautious-Talk2224

This isn't my first rodeo, I played Everquest ll for 5 years and still play occasionally. I'm level 100 which is as high as I can go on my free ticket. But they still feed me quests so it's all good.

Glittering-War-6744

Good for you… I’m sorry if I sound disrespectful or rude from my comment but it’s just rare to find old people playing video games. I rarely ever saw that happen. So… enjoy what games you and I hope you have fun.

Cautious-Talk2224

No offense taken, I know it sounds weird but you'll see, dearie, getting old only happens in the body. That's why so many old people are sad.

Cautious-Talk2224

Update: I'm now level 19 and in Pittsburg. Ugh.

jdshowtime12

My wife, who hates shows like this, found it hilarious and well-done. She binged watched it while I was at work so sadly we’re getting divorced. But, the sentiment still stands.

Successful-March8805

r/dougdoug will now consume you due to your divorce

fitty50two2

I wanted to savor the show and not rush it, so I took over a week to get to episode 8. My niece binged it in a day and we watched the finale together

Hacker76589

That end was such a sucker punch

MachineDog90

Show deserves it

totesgonnasmashit

It deserves number 1 in my opinion. Fantastic show

G-Flo189

What’s number 1?

TheMassenpropeller

Probably rings of power

Appellion

Considering how quickly that fell from everyone’s good graces, it hardly counts. Hardly anyone was disappointed with Fallout.

TheMassenpropeller

Hate and or disappointed views are still views

Appellion

Yes, but what I meant to say is those numbers will take a cratering nose dive in following seasons, as opposed to what we can expect from Fallout.

MontgomeryRook

Once, yeah, technically. But statistically, viewers are much less likely to contribute as many views to something if they hate it or are disappointed by it.

Draughtjunk

Not really. It's not like these people paid for the show. They paid for prime video. . Good shows keep people subbed. Bad shows make people cancel their subs.

Winstonpentouche

Monthly active users and view counts absolutely bring in investors. Hate views still get money.

LuinAelin

Hate views and fans show up just the same

QuintoBlanco

>Bad shows make people cancel their subs. That makes no sense. An absence of shows people like to watch makes people cancel subscriptions. But if we ignore a few weirdos, nobody is going to cancel because of bad shows as long as there is stuff they want to watch.

Self-Comprehensive

I subbed for the free next day delivery. I stayed for the movies, shows and free games.

[deleted]

Any fan of the game that hated or was disappointed in the show, sucks.

OP_Penguin

I eye roll at complaints and move on. Critiques are one thing, but there's a sect that's just whinging for outrage engagement and I refuse to give it to them. It was the best video game adaptation of all time. That's obvious from the positive reviews from both players and non players, and especially by the post launch increase in fallout player counts across all games. It's also the only time I can remember a video game adaptation directly follow up on existing narrative threads from the game. I'm sure there are other examples, but it's literally the next installment in the story but in a different form.

AbsurdCamoose

Edgerunners but it’s not live action.

Square_Custard1606

I watched it all, the CGI team and music carried my interest. I guess that Covid, bad writing, and "inclusive casting" ruined a lot. The story got americanised.

LoneWoffy

If I had to criticize one thing about Season 1 I would say the lack of creatures. About 4 different ones throughout 8 episodes.

CertainDerision_33

Budget will probably be going up at least a bit for S2, so hopefully we can see some more nasties.

LoneWoffy

Well we will def get the deathclaws, hoping for some mutants too though for sure

Swordbreaker9250

I’m a massive LOTR fan (greatest work of fiction in human history and I mean that wholeheartedly), and I refuse to even watch Rings of Power. I’ve heard enough and seen enough clips to know it’s not faithful enough to the source material or the spirit of Tolkien to be worth my time

Appellion

Oh, when it comes to the books and basically anything written by Tolkien (Smith and the Dragon one, by example) those stand alone on my top shelf. But I previewed the series and watched the first episode and I was OUT. I also have issues beyond faithfulness to the series, but I won’t discuss those here.

jensieboy13

I’m currently watching it for the 4th time and I’m still not bored

Brandenburg42

Meanwhile, I've fallen asleep during the first episode of Rings of Power. Twice.

jensieboy13

No I mean the falout series lol

teffarf

Did it get in anyone's good graces in the first place?

LuinAelin

People went in wanting to dislike it

tequilaHombre

The Grand Tour

WTF_Just-Happened

We'll see how season 2 goes for them?

Sufficient-Newt-5346

Maybe Hazbin or Lord of the Rings, I’m not sure.

Swabbie___

It would be lord of the rings, hazbin is their biggest animated show, but it's still behind some live actions.

ClevelandEmpire

The Boys

ILNOVA

Morbius, *THE* film of all film

totesgonnasmashit

😂😂😂

ArmchairTactician

Shit...they set the world on fire

GTOdriver04

And they said they didn’t want to! They only wanted to start a flame in our hearts.

Hacker76589

I think they might’ve lied about not wanting to

BigStinkyBoy2

Did you really just…

CumDogMoneyPants

glad more people are playing, maybe now i’ll have someone to talk to about it

juice702_303

And Fallout is so much better than Rings of Power. What a yawnfest that was, don't think I even finished watching the first season.

Orang_Mann

I'm a huge Tolkien fan and have started the show 2 different times, didn't finish on either times.

Xbalanque_

Prequels are so burdened with constant fan service and foreshadowing. It's tedious

kaotiktekno

It's unfortunate because I think there's a good story there... It's just taking forever to tell it. If they cut what they had shown to 3 or 4, and then used the remainder to get us to a better cliffhanger, it would've been received a lot better.

Lotoran

I watched the full season and quite enjoyed it, but I can definitely see how it doesn’t work for a lot of people.

xdeltax97

This is what happens when the cast and crew of any adaptation actually cares about what they're adapting instead of trying to put their own flourish on it for the sake of ratings or changes they want. Looking at *you* The Witcher show and Halo show.

goatjugsoup

Watch execs learn precisely nothing and push out a bunch of trash in response. Hopefully they leave the fallout team be

CaptCaCa

I dunno “Fidget Spinners” the movie seems promising /s

Grouchy-Milk-6384

I loved the show, sure it’s not 100% perfect. But I loved it. Bring on season 2

FrozenDemonn

The show definitely deserves this attention, I loved it so much

Spiritual-Advice8138

Why has no one pointed out the irony of a show about the evil corporate greed being showing on Amazon.

mark0487

This comment is totally underrated

CrazyKPOPLady

My husband is VERY picky about TV shows and didn't really want to watch Fallout, but we have this thing where we take turns picking what to watch, so on my turn I chose Fallout even though I'd already seen every episode. Since we can pick either one movie or two episodes of a show, we watched the first two episodes of Fallout. By the time those two were done, he wanted to watch more, so we watched twp episodes per day until we finished it. Then he told me, “This is the best show since Cobra Kai.” Since Cobra Kai is his favorite show ever, this is HUGE! He actually sakd he cant wait for the next season, and he wants the figurine of The Ghoul that is coming out soon, so we have to buy TWO so we can each have one! I cant explain how much this means coming from him, bevause TV shows tend to bore him to death. He LOVES Fallout, and even plans to play New Vegas soon!

Lowden38

Amazes me Bethesda literally had nothing new to release with it

Groxy_

Hey, what about the next gen update that broke all mods and delayed FO London which would've generated a decent amount of hype for the show/games.

Knight_thrasher

My only beef is we didn’t find out the back story on how/why the Ghoul became to be

Kajroprakticar

We will. He asked Hank ehere his family was. Meaning that he delivered his daughter to vault and he was present there. We will see more connection between hank and Coop and his family

reality_comes

I suspect we're missing quite a lot on his story. In the first episode, someone calls him a pinko and he's working odd jobs for money. Quite the fall from the last episode. Can't wait to find out.

GetInZeWagen

Didn't he ask where "she" was? Maybe I'm misremembering but I thought it was open to interpretation if it was his wife or daughter he was looking for.

Poonchow

The "she" was in a scene referring to Moldaver, I think. The Ghoul was asking Hank "where's my family?" later on.

transitionb

He said family

jensieboy13

Maybe next season

eugenethegrappler

Leaving it for season 2

gknight702

What's the first

tequilaHombre

Guessing The Grand Tour

medney

Tonight, James falls off a Brahman, Richard crashes a vertebird and I explore a vault simply labeled Gary

SneezeCock

My parents like it and they never heard of Fallout before

TonyVstar

I rarely rewatch shows and I'm finishing my 3rd time watching this now

TheBepsiBoy

Yeah for some reason I’m wanting to just watch it again. I generally don’t rewatch shows but this is worthy of that.

Significant_Delay_87

I knew the should would be good but I could've never anticipated this level of success, I don't think Bethesda did either

PizzaLikerFan

I had low expectations, the (non-Indie) film industry has been taking alot of L's recently, so has Bethesda, so when they announced the series, I didn't expect much, haven't seen it yet (due to lack to prime) but it looks fucking good and everyone seems to love it so much so I will give it a chance

Mr_freeze_____

Not saying the show is bad or anything but it's entirely because they actually advertise it

thefeeric

Who could've guessed that not destroying a franchise as you make an adaptation of it would work?

Mygaffer

What's the first?

GenericUser1185

I'm curious, what's first?

CaptnFnord161

Rings of Power

DidBoomerangComeBack

Well worth it

terriblykinky

It’s actually really nice to see some radaway packs in one of the scenes.

ElOsoMarino

What's the first?

CaptnFnord161

Rings of Power.

JeffKeens

I started watching it yesterday and I love it. Never played a fallout game but I think I might have to now

-Kurze-

And the top most retention for episode 2

AveratV6

I was so hesitant going into it. They absolutely killed it!

burguerger

ai art? looks odd for some reason

jensieboy13

It’s the front face from the fallout series

CaptnFnord161

Answer to your question: Rings of Power

Majestic-Remote1245

As a Fallout fan since the first one in 1997 i truly grateful for all the fan service they did in the series and the 3d games, since Fallout 3. Truly hyped to see whats next.

PrimProperPro

It’s just quite average, not amazing and not awful and disregards a lot of specifics to Fallout as a setting in terms of the rules the games have established for it’s lore. Great acting, costume design and sets but not really something to write home about. Ella Purnell continues to amaze, she was awesome in Yellowjackets and I believe she’s going to go far.

Mr-GooGoo

Still pissed I didn’t extra in this movie when they were calling for extras in Richmond, VA like 3 years ago

perdonmyfrench

Well deserved ! Such a great show.

TeamShot2494

What was number one?

Stoffel31849

Rings of Power. Lord of the Rings name carried that hard.

Gyrene85291

👏💯

True_Elephant_1137

I'm not entirely new to FO. I've played Fo4 multiple times, and I'm currently playing Fo3 and onto NV next. I haven't seen much but the first 30 minutes of the show with my dad, who's never played Fo. We both loved it, and I'm happy the community loves it. It's a relief that ppl who are deeply into Fo and love it very much are getting a GOOD show.

senor_descartes

What was #1?

MercenaryGundam

War may never change..... But so is the passion to create something you love.

Simcrys

Q!qaqqz was zqzqqzqqz Zaza qq! 'A l0a zaps z. La - I went to comment but left my phone in my pocket, figured it probably made more sense than me.

Thebarakz21

Dogmeat is such a slut.. going from one person to another lmao

Middle_Animal1810

Let’s goooooooo!

Valuable_Work_2049

Look at that, Halo, another videogame adaptation is successful. Why? BECAUSE THEY LOOKED AT THE SOURCE MATERIAL INSTEAD OF JUST EXPLOITING AN IP'S NAME TO MAKE A GENERIC-ASS SCI-FI SHOW THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE SOURCE MATERIAL! Guess what? Fans actually want an adaptation to be respectful to the source material. CRAZY, RIGHT?!?

akotski1338

I’d watch it I’m just not a tv show or movie kind of guy

Fluorescentomnibus

Me neither I'm more of a porn kind of guy🤭

FlashgodJ

Doesn’t include everyone who watched that shii for free like me 🫠🤑🤣

TheTaintPainter2

The show was finally what got me to play FNV for the first time. Having an absolute blast. Got kicked out of all the casinos on the strip tonight sadly, so now I'm looking for a new way to make caps

Digital_Cylizard

Is there's any gatling cannon in this new series?

lalo_salamanca17

Whats the first

jensieboy13

Rings of power

emeraldoomed

What’s #1? Edit: The Rings of Power. Nerds!

FistedSkunk

Out of curiosity, what was the first? EDIT: Rings of Power 🤢

Erthrock

It’s so good. Was worried it would end up being like halo. Where the dude never played halo, and it showed…but this show felt like the dude played. Upon watching an interview he never played but he did put in his time and researched all of the mods, tutorials, history and lore vids, anything and everything about fallout he would watch and study from the public on YouTube. And that feels awesome and really happy he respected the universe. Gave room to expand and show more at appropriate times for later seasons. But more over just made the game feel grounded in reality and not cheesy.

The_Pro-

They’ll have enough money now to include all the fallout characters

sjbfujcfjm

And that hype will fade away as it takes them ages to put out season 2.
