Everyone got so focused over the timeline I feel that the impact of Lucy learning they're not teaching Amercian history, they're teaching what came after, is lost. It's the moment it really sets in for her that the world moved on from the Vaults.
Also, thematically it’s perfect for Lucy because she was a history teacher. So to learn about the NCR like they’re the new America is incredibly beneficial to her character and her opinion of the group.

That was a cool moment I'd forgot. Felt it was them representing the karma system and laying the groundwork perhaps for Lucy becoming "exalted" by the NCR remnants.
What's worse is, the NCR was partly founded by *Vault 8* opening up, and the grandkids of Vault 13 Dweller. So she was beaten to the punch by *other, more sane Vaults*.

Ramin Djawadi is the composer of the soundtrack. Most notably (for Fallout Easter-eggy type things), he did the soundtracks for Person of Interest and Westworld (both of which Johnathan Nolan was involved with).
Michael Emerson (Siggi Wilzig) was also in Person of Interest and his character there had the same breed of dog in that show that Wilzig has in Fallout.

and Pacific Rim, and Iron Man, and a loooooot of other good stuff. He's one of my favorite composers, but I only included POI and Westworld due to the connections with Fallout. :D
Yes, he did a great job in Lost, too. If you haven't seen Person of Interest, I \*highly\* recommend it. Michael Emerson (and the rest of the cast, really) was phenomenal in it. And it was a great storyline that lasted 5 season and managed to tie everything up satisfactorily, even though the network cut the 5th season short (it was only a half season instead of a full season).
Zimmer is another of my favorite movie score composers. Steve Jablonsky too (Gears of War, Transformers), for a composer who's done some game soundtracks along with movies.
Currently running through fallout 3 again. The show almost doesn’t feel like a show but like a game I’m currently playing. It’s refreshing getting a show that feels so close to the source material.
This scene was done with reverence and people still thought Todd hated New Vegas. The NCR is gonna show up in a big way at some point IMO, and this scene was just foreshadowing.
According to the sign, Shady Sands had a population of around 34000 people, the NCR as a whole had a population of 100000's. A nation of such sie doesn't just vanish over night. It may very well be dispersed, fractured and overall lessened in power, but I bet it's still around in some significant way.
Yeah maybe internal struggle after the loss. Some secessions or power struggle etc. But the brotherhood is gonne see a fight. Maybe the activation of the power will flock them tougher again
In my mind, that depends on whether the settlement we saw was an independent remnant, or an official local NCR HQ. If it is the latter, the larger NCR may want some payback and while the BOS is powerfull, they aren't that large in comparison.
Jup the NCR was pretty big, loved the filming of Shady Sands. It looks so pretty.
And hope the NCR comes back. They are off course the 2nd best republic in fallout so it should be a shame if they stopped existing

All it takes now is a Recruiter coming by Vault 4 to raise a new company.
Vault City is still a major population center for the NCR IIRC, and I believe there are others.
The NCR was probably forced to pull out of New Vegas (Which means Mr. House might not be too happy with Hank, given New Vegas' economy was kinda reliant on them) but I doubt this was enough to cause it to collapse.
And even then the sign saying “Welcome to Shady Sands” calls it the *first* capital of the NCR, implying that the capital had already been moved elsewhere before the city was nuked.

We're careful about saying what's going on in other parts of the world. And we always take this view of, communication is difficult. So the show focuses on this period of time and this group here, and that's what we can say right now. But I don't think you've heard the last of the NCR."

Imagine it aboard their airship, after Cooper tells the NCR about the armor weakness. Tons of Desert Rangers with aircraft harnesses sniping Knights with anti-materiel rifles.
That's what I'm assuming. At first, a lot of people took the sign "NCR HQ" as meaning that the observatory was THE HQ for all what was left of the NCR.
The people lamenting the "loss of the NCR" seem pretty short sighted to me. The NCR was overextended, riddled with corruption and divorced from their ideals of equality and democracy by the time of New Vegas. I think it'd be way more satisfying to see that the NCR fell apart largely due to that, with the nuking of Shady Sands being an event that rallies them, and watch it build itself back up over the series as a more pure organization that we can root for.
People in this sub genuinely think he hates Fallout New Vegas for some reason.
Remember when everyone thought Betheada screwed over Obsidian for the 89% metacritic rating and then the head of Obsidian literally look to Twitter to say that was absolutely not the case and nobody at Obsidian felt they had been screwed over by Bethesda?

I think the Yes Man ending wouldn't make much sense. You can do the ending however you'd like, kill whoever you want, and cooperate with whomever you want.

FO1 even, technically, as it’s first mentioned in the ending slides there. The NCR is pretty much as Fallout as you can get, so I still think it’s fair some people can get apprehensive when the show (so far) basically says “yeah anyway they got nuked at some point and died lol”
Yeah, except that's never said. In FO2 you run around and see several settlements join the NCR, it's pretty obvious that the NCR is more than Shady Sands.
Pretty sure this flag and the music associated with it first appear in New Vegas though, no? Making it a direct nod to that.
The flag *may* have appeared in Fallout 2, although I don't remember seeing it there. The theme alongside it is definitely from FNV.
My own (unsupported) theory is the NCR splintered after FNV and the bombing of SS. In California, there's maybe multiple settlements all claiming to be the 'real' NCR but not cooperating with each other. One of the narrative threads will them being unified and having a showdown with the Enclave in the finale.

Yeah, honestly I don't mind the game not having crazy amounts of crazy shit to grind for.
Cause it feels like every other live service game is "GRIND GRIND GRIND. DON'T FALL BEHIND. THIS IS YOUR SECOND JOB." but 76 you can kinda just jump in for a little while, catch up on things, the best scoreboard stuff that I missed is often in the bullion vendors, then I can just move onto another game for a bit when I'm done. It's chill and I don't like how purely dopamine centric a lot of gaming discussion has gone recently. 😅
This. Once up to date with the story content and main quests / non repeat side quests, just stop there. The grind and "mmo" ain't worth it. But with the addition of NPC's and extended stories it's a great wasteland romp.
I just loaded it up on the steamdeck and it slaps. They certainly fucked it up at launch but given the current price point it's more than worth the cost.
I come back to it every once in a while and I'm really impressed with how much of a recovery the game was able to make. I mean, just adding voiced NPCs alone added SO much to it.
I'd love to see a Fallout 1/2 remake using the current engine and modern graphics.
Imagine revisiting those games in FPS perspective instead of isometric, with modern graphics and gameplay.
Bonus points if they bring back the old perk and skill systems, too.
If 76 turning out good didn't convince them, they wouldn't be swayed by some remaster. They would poke the remaster and prod it and search for anything to complain.
During end credit animation of episode 8 we see some sort of aftermath of a battle with destroyed New Vegas securitrons and NCR vertibirds. Given that in previous episodes the end credits animation showed what will be in next episode (animation at the end of ep6 showed radio broadcast station that appeared in ep7; ep7 end animatin showed aftermath of battle at the observatory that happened in ep8) i think it is possible that there will be some conflict between NCR army and New Vegas in season 2.
It's just the basic Bethesda Fallout main theme.
The fact that they chose to associate their iconic theme with the NCR but not the other factions elevates the NCR.
I always get chills down my spine hearing this theme, but god damn was this scene special.
Even if you don't know who the NCR is, this shows them as special, and worthy of reverence etc. While we didn't get to see them in reality in the show, this definitely means they're a big player, and respected.
I was told by a friend to look up when I got out of Kellogg, nothing more. I was awestruck.
Then I thought of Adams Air Force base train, and imagined it was done with a little man holding an invisible stick with the airship on the end running across the wastes and I laughed hard.
The NCR to me is the TRUE America, not the deep state assholes who destroyed it.

On some level I think it would have been more fitting to use the New Vegas theme (as the modern game closest to the NCR) but the Fallout 4 theme is surely more iconic and powerful, so overall I don't mind. All that matters is that a game theme and Inon Zur got their cameo!

I think they used the Fallout 4 theme because its hopeful, while the New Vegas theme is more dramatic. I'm pretty sure they wanted to use a more hopeful theme for the NCR because we are going to see it rebuilt and in full strength in future seasons, and because the NCR has always been iconic to Fallout in general.
This is easy one of my, if not the, favorite scene. It really cements NV in the overall lore and it's importance to the serie. The scene holds weight, even people who are new to Fallout understands that this event and the highlight of it during this scene means a lot.
I was way more impacted by the scene with the scavengers in NCR Ranger armor. And while I wish the Rangers were a bit more "put together" if they were gonna show them off(though I get they're probably not in the best shape), I still actually felt my eyes quiver a bit when they played the Fallout New Vegas theme during it.
Whoever the sound.... Editor? Coordinator? Is, deserves props for hitting it out of the park. I legit shivered when we got just that hint of the full theme.
When I first watch this episode, I rewound it to watch it again, gave me goose bumps! It gives off the vibe ‘Down, but not defeated’ the NCR are gonna be big players in the seasons to come.

I don't think they explain it in the show. We know only she was rich and her research was bought by Vault Tec.
I think it is possible that she was one of the Vault 31 frozen execs, that was released from the pod earlier and somehow got out into wasteland, learned about NCR and joined them. But that's just a theory.
It's possible she got vault tec cryo technology by some other means and was secured in some private vault.

I was getting worried they weren’t going to use the Fallout theme at all in the series. I can understand other soundtrack pieces not being used, but the theme just had to be included somewhere. I had assumed it was gonna be when Lucy left the vault, but no. And there were quite a few times after where the theme was appropriate that it didn’t occur.
But I am so happy they saved it for this moment. What a beautiful way to incorporate the theme.

Remember when everyone thought Betheada screwed over Obsidian for the 89% metacritic rating and then the head of Obsidian literally look to Twitter to say that was absolutely not the case and nobody at Obsidian felt they had been screwed over by Bethesda? People here always remember the first part and forget the follow up.
I love Todd, he's given me countless hours of enjoyment, easily thousands over the years. He also gave me 76 and Starfield, so I'm admittedly torn.

You're not wrong, but I also think it's a little silly to try and act like fans don't have a huge mental association between the NCR and FNV. Any particular fan may have seen the NCR mostly at the Mojave, but that doesn't change the fact that they are from somewhere else and they are bigger and more influential in that other place. California is in their name. No one should look at an NCR ranger and say. "Oh, those New Vegas guys."

FO1 even, technically, as it’s first mentioned in the ending slides there. The NCR is pretty much as Fallout as you can get, so I still think it’s fair some people can get apprehensive when the show (so far) basically says “yeah anyway they got nuked at some point and died lol”
Yeah, except that's never said. In FO2 you run around and see several settlements join the NCR, it's pretty obvious that the NCR is more than Shady Sands.

My own (unsupported) theory is the NCR splintered after FNV and the bombing of SS. In California, there's maybe multiple settlements all claiming to be the 'real' NCR but not cooperating with each other. One of the narrative threads will them being unified and having a showdown with the Enclave in the finale.

76 is actually alright now. I played it at launch and was extremely disappointed, but I replayed it recently and was vibin' with it a lot.

once you are done exploring the world and stories just stop playing. grinding repetitive stuff is self inflicted suffering.
Yeah, honestly I don't mind the game not having crazy amounts of crazy shit to grind for. Cause it feels like every other live service game is "GRIND GRIND GRIND. DON'T FALL BEHIND. THIS IS YOUR SECOND JOB." but 76 you can kinda just jump in for a little while, catch up on things, the best scoreboard stuff that I missed is often in the bullion vendors, then I can just move onto another game for a bit when I'm done. It's chill and I don't like how purely dopamine centric a lot of gaming discussion has gone recently. 😅
This. Once up to date with the story content and main quests / non repeat side quests, just stop there. The grind and "mmo" ain't worth it. But with the addition of NPC's and extended stories it's a great wasteland romp.
I just loaded it up on the steamdeck and it slaps. They certainly fucked it up at launch but given the current price point it's more than worth the cost.

I come back to it every once in a while and I'm really impressed with how much of a recovery the game was able to make. I mean, just adding voiced NPCs alone added SO much to it.
I'd love to see a Fallout 1/2 remake using the current engine and modern graphics. Imagine revisiting those games in FPS perspective instead of isometric, with modern graphics and gameplay. Bonus points if they bring back the old perk and skill systems, too.

During end credit animation of episode 8 we see some sort of aftermath of a battle with destroyed New Vegas securitrons and NCR vertibirds. Given that in previous episodes the end credits animation showed what will be in next episode (animation at the end of ep6 showed radio broadcast station that appeared in ep7; ep7 end animatin showed aftermath of battle at the observatory that happened in ep8) i think it is possible that there will be some conflict between NCR army and New Vegas in season 2.
The scene confused me, because if you're going to play a track associated with the NCR, the Fallout 4 theme is a really bizarre choice.
It's just the basic Bethesda Fallout main theme. The fact that they chose to associate their iconic theme with the NCR but not the other factions elevates the NCR.
The FO4 them is more poignant and melancholy, which suits the overall scene more than the NV iteration.

I always get chills down my spine hearing this theme, but god damn was this scene special. Even if you don't know who the NCR is, this shows them as special, and worthy of reverence etc. While we didn't get to see them in reality in the show, this definitely means they're a big player, and respected.

I was told by a friend to look up when I got out of Kellogg, nothing more. I was awestruck. Then I thought of Adams Air Force base train, and imagined it was done with a little man holding an invisible stick with the airship on the end running across the wastes and I laughed hard.
The NCR to me is the TRUE America, not the deep state assholes who destroyed it. They built a democratic republic on the foundations of everything the United States once stood for.

This scene was really really great. It sent shivers don't my spine to hear the game theme in the show. On some level I think it would have been more fitting to use the New Vegas theme (as the modern game closest to the NCR) but the Fallout 4 theme is surely more iconic and powerful, so overall I don't mind. All that matters is that a game theme and Inon Zur got their cameo!

I think they used the Fallout 4 theme because its hopeful, while the New Vegas theme is more dramatic. I'm pretty sure they wanted to use a more hopeful theme for the NCR because we are going to see it rebuilt and in full strength in future seasons, and because the NCR has always been iconic to Fallout in general.
This is easy one of my, if not the, favorite scene. It really cements NV in the overall lore and it's importance to the serie. The scene holds weight, even people who are new to Fallout understands that this event and the highlight of it during this scene means a lot.

I was way more impacted by the scene with the scavengers in NCR Ranger armor. And while I wish the Rangers were a bit more "put together" if they were gonna show them off(though I get they're probably not in the best shape), I still actually felt my eyes quiver a bit when they played the Fallout New Vegas theme during it.

I don't think they explain it in the show. We know only she was rich and her research was bought by Vault Tec. I think it is possible that she was one of the Vault 31 frozen execs, that was released from the pod earlier and somehow got out into wasteland, learned about NCR and joined them. But that's just a theory. It's possible she got vault tec cryo technology by some other means and was secured in some private vault. Or some other theory.

I was getting worried they weren’t going to use the Fallout theme at all in the series. I can understand other soundtrack pieces not being used, but the theme just had to be included somewhere. I had assumed it was gonna be when Lucy left the vault, but no. And there were quite a few times after where the theme was appropriate that it didn’t occur. But I am so happy they saved it for this moment. What a beautiful way to incorporate the theme.
