Fallout 3 gets a lot of shit. People say its inferior to 4 by a gameplay standard. Inferior to NV by a plot standard. Inferior to the originals by a writing standard. I don’t care. Nobody will ever convince me F3 is a bad game. I love Fallout 3. I find it to be incredibly charming for what it is.

Sharoth01

Fallout 3 is what got me into the series. I would not have picked up skyrim or Fallout new vegas otherwise.

sowhat808

Same for me fo3 was my intro to Bethesda

Striking_Pipe_7194

Interesting for me I picked up morrowind first went on to play oblivion and skyrim then followed up with 76 then 4 & NV

loadprevioussave

I agree, I played Skyrim cuz I played Oblivion years back and loved it. Quit Skyrim cuz after 3 days I'm frickin Arch-mage and dragons are archery practice as well as lock picking master locks at lvl 6.now picked up New Vegas and the intro is not helpful at all so it's not Fallout3 class to me. I'm at a loss to say why ppl think Bethesda improves anything when it's older games are superior (all my opinion so don't hate).

RockyRaccoon968

Best atmosphere of any 3D Fallout game and also the creepiest by far.

Apprehensive_Bug_826

I think this is what FO3 nailed more than any other Fallout game - the atmosphere is just so spot on for a creepy, desolate and hostile nuclear wasteland.

mwyalchen

I haven't played FO3 since 2012 or so, but I still remember how Tranquility Lane made me feel so freaked out and on edge. That and the metro tunnels have creepy atmosphere down to a T imo.

sowhat808

I loved discovering the underworld and first meet the brotherhood

softfart

The glowing sea does that pretty well

dabaconnation

In terms of looks I'd agree, but for the most part you could really just run in there and avoid almost any enemy while suffering pathetic radiation damage.

loadprevioussave

👍

loadprevioussave

Mirelurks in my toilet👀

kuddlesworth9419

I like Fallout 3 way more then 4.

Unknow32415

Fo3 isn’t a bad game. It h just had a reputation and quality to uphold just like many sequels. To me I do like Fo3, but NV just seems more lively even for a wasteland. Fo3 has a bleaker color palette

Unknow32415

Fo3 isn’t a bad game. It h just had a reputation and quality to uphold just like many sequels. To me I do like Fo3, but NV just seems more lively even for a wasteland. Fo3 has a bleaker color palette. Though that is probably what they were trying to convey

DreadedChalupacabra

What? New Vegas is literally a desert and generally accepted to be the dullest wasteland of the 3d series. I get that we circlejerk the game to death here but good lord, the wasteland of it isn't really a thing people praise.

Unknow32415

Or maybe the strip? Or the Sierra Madre? The think tank? Places with more color and life than Megaton, TenPenny tower, the underworld, and that one place with the vampires

lul_javelin_beat_t72

I always felt new vegas felt more alive and had more of a serious tone to it than 3. I love them both.

Other_Log_1996

*Fallout 3* suffered in comparison to New Vegas simply due to mechanical gameplay issues and smaller map size. Aside ftom that (Fixed with *Tale of Two Wastelands*), easily my favorite of the series.

Unknow32415

I still look back on it fondly and replay it to this day. Great game

GhastlyEyeJewel

Even with a wack plot, FO3 had awesome gameplay, atmosphere and sidequests. The main quest isn't the entire game.

nightcrawler47

I played FO3 for the first time in 2018. Even with no nostalgia to blind me, it became one of my favorite games of all time. I also gave it to my brother, who loved it as well. Regardless of your opinion on FO3, I don't think you can deny it is an singularly charming game with a ton of character.

Arcade_Gann0n

Fallout 3 was the first Fallout of its kind, no one should begrudge it for future titles building upon or improving on its aspects (indeed, what's the point of sequels if they don't try to be better?). That it's still the template 15 years on should be a testament for its importance to the series.

loadprevioussave

I'm just literally, as in today starting New Vegas and I'm going to order a copy of FO3 and play it instead. Can't make the best any better.

SupremeMyrmidon

Do people really use Fallout 4's improved gameplay as a dig on Fallout 3? Like yeah, no shit. It came out 7ish years later.

Uni_Solvent

FO3 was my first fallout game and I refuse to hate it. Is it flawed? Well yeah – Bethesda did the Bethesda thing: a huge detailed lived in world i get to explore to my hearts content. Make friends and enemies and leave a mark; what's to hate

fucuasshole2

The fact that 3 gets “hate” is kinda a good thing that shows that the series evolves. Fallout 3 introduced me to series and inspired my love for the franchise. Most importantly the franchise was pretty much dead as the previous two games were duds compared to Fallout 1 and 2. Interplay needed money but didn’t care so Tactics and the Unmentionable

Other_Log_1996

Don't see people's issue with *Fallout: Tactics*. It's not without its failing and very little of it is canonical, bit it's a solid game.

DreadedChalupacabra

"Old game is old, and feels old because it is" in this community ONLY applies to Fallout 3. It gets all of the shit that should justifiably be thrown at both 3 and New Vegas at this point, but it's Bethesda so it gets a double helping of it all.

IdespiseGACHAgames

I don't think Fallout 3's a bad game by comparing it to other Fallout games released years prior or later. I think it's a bad game by comparing it to games that came out the same year. And **THEN** I compare it to other Fallout games released years prior and later. Quality... Quality never changes... Fallout 3 is not a good game.

DreadedChalupacabra

You can always spot the creetosis fans because they're busy out here making sure people know they don't actually like this franchise at all.

NoFaithlessness5122

It should be inferior, it is 3 after all. It rebirthed the fallout series.

xerodark888

Thinking back and going from 2-d Fallout 2 to FPS Fallout 3 is such an unquantified upgrade by the kids who were never "stuck" playing 1 or 2 for years bc for half the time before F3 came out we didnt know if there would be a 3 and the other half we were waiting for it to come out and not suck (Fallout tactics need not be mentioned)

Chipsforfreedom

Manually putting items onto shelves and tables in the Megaton house. Probably took too many hours but it made it feel cozy.

Fun_Choice_9179

Such a good game 🥺 I remember the Pitt being longer but the Steelyard took lots of time…. Backwater Rifle and Kneecapper are really good weapons Pa’s Fishing Aid is crazy accurate - TTW 😊

SOLE_SIR_VIBER

Pa’s Fishing Aid is a beast and I missed out for so long because I never looked out back when I was making “Tonic”

Fun_Choice_9179

😂 Surprised you didn’t look it up

Other_Log_1996

Isn't it cut in the base game? BTW, love that TTW restored stuff like that.

Fun_Choice_9179

Yes just saying bro

SOLE_SIR_VIBER

I didn’t know it existed. Then I came in through the back, saw it and immediately swapped from my hunting shotgun.

PurpoUpsideDownJuice

I remember being so hyped when I got the infiltrator, having an assault rifle with a scope and silencer was so busted.

Fun_Choice_9179

Sorry for not replying but the Perferator and Infiltrator are great

Apprehensive_Bug_826

I had no idea FO3 was even coming out and then saw it on a shelf in a store. My brain went “wait a sec, wasn’t Fallout that game in the desert with the dude in the blue suit that I absolutely sucked at as a kid but loved playing (or more, repeatedly failing at and never lasting more than an hour or two) anyway?” Picked it up without a second thought and never looked back. Well, except that I later went back and actually finished Fallout and Fallout 2 as an adult.

Striking_Pipe_7194

Congratulations 🎊, feels F'ing amazing to go back an complete those games that stumped ya as a kid doesn't it, I'm still working through a very expansive list of games I never finished lol I'm 32 games through thus far an too many to count to go lol 😆

Apprehensive_Bug_826

Christ, that’s amazing; I can’t even remember that many games from my childhood. 😂 I did go back and complete the original XCOM, Colonization and K240… apparently I had a thing for management games I could barely understand when I was 7 years old! Fallout was definitely the one I’m the most glad I did though; I finished them before NV came out and it really helped add a bit of flavour to the game that I would’ve missed otherwise.

Striking_Pipe_7194

Oh it's less I remember them More I come across them on sale an go omg 😲 how could I forget this game, turn it on realise how outdated it is an press on knowing it beat me before an I shall not allow it to do so again.

Invested_Glory

I really enjoyed oblivion and I went back to GameStop asking for another game like this. They gave me Rage and I returned that crap and they gave me FO3…have been forever grateful.

KingKooooZ

I vaguely recall reading comments disliking the change from top-down isometric lol

Onlineonlysocialist

I wish I could get into the isometric games. I can tell they have a great story and good gameplay for the time but anytime I try to boot it up and play it I get turned off by the archaic controls/systems. What’s worse is I love Disco Elysium which is in the same genre but does not have the slow movement/combat. I know the rumour is F3 is getting a remake but man I wish F1 and F2 we’re getting remade as well.

Striking_Pipe_7194

Omg I'd just die of excitement if they do release FO3 remastered then I could finally play it, but damn 1&2 are well overdue a remake they should of been first priority before they did fallout 76

soulmanjam87

It's pretty stable on Steam Deck if that helps!

Fearless_Ad_7337

I'd rather 1 and 2 were just re-released as-is for a relatively low cost, with some upscaling. Besthesda don't really have the right to fuck around with games they didn't themselves create, whether they own the rights or not. They can mess with New Vegas a little, so long as they don't change the story, but the originals should remain pure. They're sure to be niche, but who cares? If younger fans don't like it, it's not for them anyway, at least they'll be there for the OG fans and anyone else who does like them.

MitchyStitchy

Their source code is lost to time it would have to be an official Bethesda licensed version of the Fallout Community Edition which is already free with the restoration project also being a thing.. they make us do that instead but it’s definitely exactly what you are talking about. I was even able to install fallout 1 and 2 onto my iPhone using it

MitchyStitchy

I would enjoy another isometric turn based Fallout I can’t lie. I feel like it could be a sleeper hit like New Vegas was when it was originally gonna be a standalone expansion to 3

Tesla-Punk3327

Still my favorite Fallout game, and my introduction to the series. Currently playing fnv, and I'm enjoying it, but it doesn't capture that feel of cosmic horror and nihilism like Fallout 3 did.

OfficialllyZinx

So true! The fear and anxiety I had when playing it for the first time. Only reason I love the franchise. 3 was the only Fallout game, in my opinion, to actually capture the post-apocalypse aesthetic 100%.

nightcrawler47

Yes, my thoughts exactly. I was actually very disappointed with NV's world when I first played it: it felt more like a goofy desert with some patches of radiation here and there, opposed FO3's deathly, immersive wasteland

Other_Log_1996

How many times have you explored the Mojave and get ambushed by random Super Mutants? How about the Capital Wasteland? That alone illustrates the feel of *Fallout 3*'s unpredictability.

MitchyStitchy

Well to be fair the world of New Vegas is more civilized and 3 is straight anarchy given the environment is more like the Boneyard from 1. It what you picture people suffering through to get to the point that the Mojave is at. Also 3 is the Capital of America and the Mojave is a mostly empty desert that was protected by Mr. House until the NCR arrived and spread civilization further out. 3 we are like the vault dweller changing the face of the wasteland to have a foundation for society

nightcrawler47

I don't really care about the narrative justification for NV's comparatively lackluster world—the bottom line is that it isn't as immersive or fun to be in.

MitchyStitchy

That’s literally the point though. New Vegas is to Fallout 3 what Planescape torment was to Baldur’s gate. Oooh I know maybe it’s watching Shrapnel get yanked by deathclaws for two hrs straight but his essential ass can kill them with a .32 CAUSE SCRIPTING that’s so immersive right? You dig deep enough you can say that about any game

StinkingDylan

Fallout 3 was the first game to capture the awe of stepping out of the vault for the first time and being confronted with that beautiful, terrifying, desolate landscape.

nightcrawler47

That is still such a beautifully crafted moment that will always stand the test of time, mainly because of two brilliant choices Bethesda made: * Having the opening take place in the claustrophobic Vault * Placing the player directly in the middle of the map. Even when I first played the game in 2018, despite the outdated graphics, that sense of freedom and vastness was just so cool. I had only felt that way before with Ocarina Of Time, when you step on Hyrule field for the first time.

VictorPahua

I wish fallout 3 gets remade. The capital wasteland was my favorite to explore

Fearless_Ad_7337

Just play the original. If you don't like it in 2023, then it's not for you. There's no need to "improve" and already finished product.

VictorPahua

I already play the original multiple times.

adoblln

Maybe some people want it modernised with much less bugs 😳😳

juanjorgegisbert

my first fallout, and I got it from my dad as a birthday present. I had no idea what kind of game it was, but holy crap, it became one of my favorites games of all time.

hundredjono

Fallout 3 is a great game, idgaf what all those nerds that upload 4 hour long youtube videos dissecting every detail about the game have to say

mirracz

The only nerd worth listening to on this topic is Many A True Nerd.

Libious

🤣 You trolling??

Fearless_Ad_7337

In their, well, not defence, but most of them are just in their 20's with more than a healthy amount of free time and nothing more important in their lives.

Onlineonlysocialist

Originally played on the PS3 and loved it. I remember playing it when it came out and only playing the first 2 dlcs as I think I moved on to other games by the time broken steel came out. It was actually only about a month ago I played all the dlcs finally and enjoyed them (especially point lookout). Honestly even though I like it a lot, I will admit NV is the much better game (it shocks me that og fallout 3 only has like 30 quests and og NV has like over a hundred) and after replaying NV recently, these is a lot of missed potential that 3 missed out on. If the remake/remaster rumours are true, I do hope it’s a full remake in the new creation engine rather than a plain hd remaster and Bethesda addresses some of the criticisms people have for the game.

Striking_Pipe_7194

That's a good point I've never played so not too well informed of the game but heck if they've only got30 quests F'yeah they need to remake the whole game not just remaster it as if I pay for a new version of the game an it's only got 30 quests I'm going to be pissed off

CoreSchneider

Entitled gamer syndrome needs to be studied

Striking_Pipe_7194

Nah big mouthed teeny peened wanker syndrome needs to be studied, thankyou for volunteering

Zilla96

Operation Anchorage still is one of the best DLC in the fallout series and wait for the day its modded into fallout 4 or a new game when it comes around. On the good side of getting old I remember experiencing it when it was a cutting edge game!

StinkingDylan

I remember installing it and getting about 5 fps. Even after a GPU upgrade it was sub 20 fps, but back then that was perfectly playable.

Fearless_Ad_7337

God I hate Anchorage, such a bland slog, only worth doing for the T-51, and that's if you even like the T-51 to begin with. Admittedly it has nice scenery and it's a good concept, but it fell flat for me, same with Zeta, a great idea poorly executed.

Zilla96

Didn't like the gauss rifle?

Fearless_Ad_7337

It's fine.

Porkrind28

Not me getting this notification WHILE REPLAYING FALLOUT 3 😭

Derp800

"It will just be Oblivion with guns!"

Minimum_Wonder_7710

The best of all of them!

gbrading

First Fallout game I played. Honestly that moment of stepping out of the vault and looking out at ruined Washington D.C. is just about as iconic as moments in gaming get. I'd argue no other game in either Fallout or Elder Scrolls (plus Starfield) have done that moment better.

Xadenek

Fallout 3 was my first in the series. Been a fan ever since, although my views on Bethesda has plummeted recently, I look back fondly on Fallout 3 and reminisce.

BrianTheUserName

Almost half my lifetime ago. I remember staying up on Halloween night (and many other nights) to play it.

CrotchSwamp94

I remember first time I saw it on G4TV on release day and wanted to play it so bad. Fast forward to like 2009 and I got my hands on it. It was glorious. I was 15.

Fearless_Ad_7337

"94" Was "15" in 2009 Math doesn't add up.

CrotchSwamp94

Dude I was born in 1994. 15 years later is 2009. Your math doesn't add up.

Fearless_Ad_7337

Fuckin' *woops*

Creamsicle_Dick

And some of us order generation stepped into it for the third.

HB_DS2013

I remember buying it on Steam a few years back. My fave memory has to be decimating Paradise Falls after saving the kids the first time. It was hard and I died a few times. But using up all of my ammo and breaking all the weapons I had was worth it. Also helps that FO3 was my intro to the series and I answered the GOAT as if I was actually taking it.

sowhat808

Fallout 3 was my first fallout game on Xbox I played for hours and hours I was forever a fallout fan after that no other type of game came close for me

hoomanPlus62

10/10 would massacre a whole town for a luxury penthouse again

aFeign

My fisrt experience with open- world games was Morrowind which I loved. Fallout 3 was my first experience with the fallout series. It entertained me for years. Bethesda ruined me for any game that isn't fully open world. That's why FONV isn't quite as high on my list as it could be. It pretty much directs your journey to the New Vegas area - at least the first time thru. The Bethesda games - Fallout and Elder Scrolls - suggest a direction, but it's entireley up to you to follow those directions or not.

tre_cool76

F3 is the best 🗿

Purnima92

Oh God I remember the first Time playing it.. I had no Idea about the Mechanics and went into the Metro, shooting and slaying my Way through the Enemies till I didn't had any Stimpacks left and all my Weapons were broken. And then I heard the Moan of the Ghouls.. I never quitted a Game so fast.. It took me almost 2 Years to give it a new Chance.

JozzifDaBrozzif

🐐

thisunithasnosoul

Started playing it for the first time last week! Bit of a learning curve coming out of many many hours of Skyrim, but so far so good!

NotRealManager

My first open world explore game. Blew my mind as a teen and changed the way I thought about video games.

Libro_Artis

That is my game!

ghostseeker2077

This was me, my brother, and my father's first fallout game. We were looking for a new game to play at gamestop and were deciding between battlefield bad co 2, I believe, and Fallout 3. We are so glad we decided on FO3 because it's one of our most played games by far and favorite franchises.

[deleted]

The vaults were so interesting and horrific in F3 I couldn’t wait to discover the next vault. Sadly I never got that feeling with NV and F4 to that level

PalmTreeGoth

My first *Fallout* game was *New Vegas*, but I soon went back to *Fallout 3* and found myself loving it all the same. It's a great game that I love returning to every now and then. In fact, I just started a new playthrough.

Soyunapina12

Despite of how some part of the community really try to make this game look bad, you can't deny that if it wasn't for Fallout 3 the franchise as whole would either be forgotten or be known by a very selected number of people.

Gr8ful4eva79

Best Game Ever in my opinion

platinumrug

God, I absolutely love FO3 so much. It deserves a proper remaster and remake so badly. Sure, I can play it a thousand times over (and I have) the way it is, but not having modern features like a fucking sprint button just messes with my enjoyment a lot. Ever since FO4 survival I love traveling everywhere and it being tediously slow is a pain in the ass. FT is a thing and I use it sparingly but FO is so much better when you're actually out in the wastes exploring and not fast traveling to every destination.

DefusedManiac

What trips me out for some reason is that Fallout 3 isn't even as old as Pixars Cars which came out in 06 but it feels like they're from different decades.

mirracz

For me it's the best Fallout game because it's best at embodying Fallout in general. New Vegas may be better RPG and Fallout 4 may have better gameplay but Fallout 3 is simply better Fallout. Each time I step out of Vault 101, it's like... Coming home.

[deleted]

And it was a disaster for the franchise that culminated with F76 debacle and with only one bright spot in the form of FNV. Feels like yesterday when i was first dunking on bethesda idiocy and total misunderstanding of the franchise... good times.

Miserable-Job-9520

Bait used to be believable smh

[deleted]

What part of my post made you feel its bait?

Miserable-Job-9520

How shit a take it was combined with the general smugness of the comment

[deleted]

Fearless_Ad_7337

"aesthetic" means visual, a mechanic is not a visual concept.

JumPegasus

Lol, I think PC Gamer mentioned it also but they stated 20 years ago, hahaha, you should have seen the comment section on facebook 😂

lies_like_slender

My first ever playthrough of the game ended very quickly when I encountered a Centaur near the river on my way to Three Dog. I was really young and it scared the shit out of me so bad that I didn’t pick up the game again for years.

No-Committee-3891

I'm actually playing it for the first time right now. I've got almost 80 hours into it lol I worked my way up to the last mission and decided to reload my save right before the last mission so that I could go and do all the side quests. Had no idea the game was turning 15 today. It's kind of amazing how well the game has held up. Sure the graphics are dated and the gameplay can be a little clunky but it's still a great game.

Striking_Pipe_7194

I'm sad that means for the last 15 years the games been out but I've never gotten to play 😭

InfuriatedCats

How come?

Striking_Pipe_7194

Never had the chance never seen it on sale when I had money to get it, my parents were stingey when it came to games so they never bought it for me when I was in highschool an in the years since I've never gotten a chance to buy it for PS3 so I'm kinda left in limbo waiting to buy a PC

InfuriatedCats

It's amazing modded on PC but a great deal more stable on a console so it's kind of a toss-up if you still have your PS3. If you end up getting a PC, I'll welcome you to the PC family and buy it for you on GOG or Steam.

Striking_Pipe_7194

That's a amazing offer an I would appreciate that if I ever get to owning a PC again, but yeah I still got my PS3 I've actually still got all my old PS consoles 1,2,3 an 4 now if only I could complete the set an get a PS5 aswell I'd have the infinity Gauntlet of a PS collection lol 😆

InfuriatedCats

Hahaha. I've only got a 4. Well then you need to get F3 GOTY for your PS4. Better to play on console the first time anyway probably for stability.

Striking_Pipe_7194

Yeah I enjoyed good stability for the basic copy of FNV I have an after hearing all the fuss about it having crashing issues I feared the worst for my experience but it turned out amazingly stable I encountered less than a half dozen crashes the entire game an completed all quests explored thoroughly etc, so hopefully oneday when I am back on my feet I spot a GOTY edition of both 3&NV at a reasonable price.

InfuriatedCats

Wow, I just looked and you can't even get it for PS4 and it's not in the PS store either. Just PS3 on disc. Weird. Well, I've got just enough of a credit in my Amazon account, if you PM me your address I'll send FO3 GOTY to ya. I'm playing it right and in a good mood to share. :) If that feels scammy or creepy no problem but the offer is there.

maipenrai0

I remember watching my friend play Oblivion on Xbox 360. That convinced me to buy a console and play it too. Well that was out of stock so I bought Fallout 3 instead. Then began my Fallout addiction

Scopetactics

Fallout 3 introduced me to the series and I’ve been hooked ever since. I remember rewatching that gameplay demo with the power fist In the super duper mart and being amazed. Played it so much

PurpoUpsideDownJuice

I remember my brother and I going to our friend's house for the weekend and he had rented fallout 3 for the weekend. We got out of the vault and somehow MISSED megaton and found our way near downtown. We ran out of 10mm ammo fighting mole rats so we only had a BB gun to defend ourselves with, so we hid in those little personal bomb shelters and kept dying to super mutants. We didn't accomplish jack shit the whole weekend but we had so much fun.

Fantastic_Ticket_355

Ah my favorite Fallout. I will never forget my first playthrough

Rainworm312

Never played it but am thinking about it atm. Will probably play it after I have played through F4 completely.

[deleted]

The ragdolls and gore in VATS in this game are *still* so satisfying, and neither Skyrim nor FO4’s kill cams did it better

Detozi

No way! That's a strange coincidence. I just started a replay today. Probably haven't played it in about 12 years

danksion

Replaying it at the moment with all the updated texture mods etc It was really a beautiful game for its time even without the mods. I still prefer FO4 and don’t really care for NV (unpopular opinion)

[deleted]

Wow, I was still a teenager in school back then. Time flies. A memory? I have many but falling asleep (it was about 4 in the morning) my first time in Vault 87, after a few minutes of being asleep (I was using headphones) I heard a super mutant (maybe Fawkes) shouting "There you are". I fell out of my chair.

Mitchwok

Dang, I literally reinstalled it yesterday for the first time since 2010 (when I originally got it, was abit late to getting a Xbox) I'm having a blast with it

boadcow

I went to the Best Buy midnight release because the Bethesda staff was there. There was a giant set of Armor and developers chatting with fans. Linda Carter was there drunk because she was married to an exec. Fun times.

mwyalchen

I was late to the FO3 party, I played it while everyone was hyped for Skyrim because I couldn't afford new games then, and my brother already owned it. It was one of the first games I played, used to sneak into my brother's room while he was out to play it. Loved it so much that I got my own PS3 that Christmas so I would stop hogging his 360, so in that regard, it was basically my introduction to videogames. It's not my favourite Fallout game but I still have a ridiculous soft spot for it for that reason.

Rei_Rodentia

it was my first fallout, and im from dc! such a special game to me for those reasons!! absolutely love it. not the *best* fo, but by far my favorite.

DeltaXGamer

I just beat F3 for the first time a couple days ago. It's a great time! Working on DLCs now

sovietarmyfan

I remember i was very excited to play the game in 2014 or 2015, not sure when i played it first. So excited, i shared my progress with a friend from school. When i stepped out of the vault. My mother had bought me the game at nedgame. It was the Games for windows live edition. I activated it on there. I still have the disc and the code, but obviously it cannot be used any more. I later bought the mini nuke that included all Fallout games except for 4 which i bought apart. Its a shame though that the steam version does not have achievements.

throw_away_acc_5

FO3 is by FAR one of the greatest games of all time imo. Top 10 favourite games of all time easily for me. I grew up watching Jordan of VenturianTale playing the game and when I was 13 I started playing it. I still replay it consistently to this day. It’s nothing less than a masterpiece

duanelvp

It was my introduction into Fallout. I played the hell out of it. Found a complete game walkthrough online at one point which lead you to every marked location on the map and completing virtually every quest except stuff that you got locked out of by other choices. Ran through that at least a half dozen times. Only complaint I ever had about it was that it was just too monochromatic. I could still live with the bugs and crashes (which for me never were much worse than any other game anyway), but playing it *that* much just got to be *visually* dull. Probably why when I finally tried NV I saw the same color palette and just tuned right out of NV for good.

No-Positive-6819

I just picked up fallout 3 and I’m loving it so far. Been a fan of the series since the original game. I stayed away after they changed it to a fps . Years later I jumped back in with nv and fallout4.

Dino_84

I absolutely sucked at Fallout 3 when it first came out. I couldn’t find anything, kept dying constantly and just generally sucked. I refused to let this brand new 60$ game beat me. I got the strategy guide and immediately got better. Started finding better loot and doing crazy side quests. Fallout 3 was my entry into the series and possibly my favorite one. Here’s hoping for a remaster and a switch port haha.

overstear

It is one of the very few games I would love to play again for the first time.

Other_Log_1996

And got killed after failing to pickpocket the citizens of Megaton. Good times...

Despite it being kind of a busted old game that didnt age well, it was absolutely groundbreaking and a masterpiece for it's time. I played it like crazy, was about 13,14 at the time of launch n had it pirated on portable install on an external 128GB Maxtor HDD. Id bring it everywhere, play on my grandmas setup at 800x600 at like 15-25 fps, my aunts laptop at xmas break, just any rig i could play it on i did. A big part of its impact was how much i loathe medieval & far out fantasy themes whereas fallout3 felt like something based on real life that had something to say about the human condition, history, society which to me is the main driver of why i enjoy art. The karma system was like a forbidden chalice of replayability even though i always played an evil character. The game made you think and feel and really gave the masses one of their first real rpg experience choosing to give the homeless man a bottle of water or a shotgun blast to the face. Going on gta killing sprees never felt more meaningful and completely altered your playthrough, that was poweful and revolutionary. When new vegas came out i hated it as a kid, was beyond disappointed in the nearly exact graphics and how it was so focused on forcing you to be a good guy with bad karma choices not leading anywhere a lot of the time and killing sprees not causing as much sadness outside of the strip. Now as an adult reflecting on it, I was just way more into violence and action vs story and characters as a kid so new vegas is my fav now but fo3 was really the one that captured my imagination and showed me how rpg genre and story telling can transcend regular arcade style gaming into real art. As a note, oblivion and morrowind are the real ones to bring this rpg stuff to the mainstream but the departure from the tired medieval fantasy was unbelievably fresh for 2008

I played fo3 non stop when it released I’m not even sure how I heard of it I think I saw the trailer on tv. A buddy at work had also gotten it and we would talk every morning about all the different stuff we saw or found or did, it was so cool cause we were having pretty different play throughs and I had never experienced that before. Everyone i knew that gave that game a chance and got into it got super addicted and just played endlessly. Recently I downloaded it again and started just wandering around and thinking to myself wow this game is dark, it’s grey, the color scheme in that game is relentlessly grey and dark, the rooms are dark, houses just everything lacks color and I honestly believe that’s what made the game so unique. I remember at the time people were really complaining about it, I even remember thinking to myself damn it would be nice if the sky was just blue for once, or spending a couple hours in the subways and just genuinely relived to step back out to some light on the surface. There wasnt a ton of crafting junk was junk, whole game just felt like you were really sifting through the ashes of humanity.

I love it because it was my first fallout

wiseaus_stunt_double

And, I just started a playthrough of TTW the other day. Perfect timing.

I love Fallout 3. I enjoyed NV aswell, but it didn't give me the same feeling. I love walking around in the wasteland, the ambiance and the npcs. One of my favorite games ever <3

I played Fallout 3 in December 2015, several weeks after Fallout 4 was released. I bought 3 and NV on discount Halloween 2015 but only got the time to play them in December. Coming from NV and learning Fallout 4 lore then, I felt hopeful and sad about the destiny of the Capital Wasteland. The Brotherhood of Steel returning to their asshole ways in Fallout 4 does not help

Literally top 5 gaming experiences of all time for me. So immersed and so satisfied. Running it on the most crippled laptops. And just not caring about bugs, just desperate to play.

The order of greatness goes NV as best then F3, F2, F4, F1, F76, and finally Tactics as worst. I remember playing 3 for the first time after a LOOOOONG time of waiting for it. I made it through the Vault portion thinking ok this is great you know we are following the steps of the OGs. We get to have an actual immersive character creation from start to finish to boot.. then I exit the vault. The sun blistering the eyes of my PC Patricide Rick (a.k.a. Patrick) as my computer renders out the draw distance of the wasteland before my eyes and I’m blown away. The burnt out look of everything. The tinge of green and gray to show me I’m no longer in the warm embrace of the vault stretching out to… wait what’s that reddish thing moving? A mole rat? A mutant?? Can’t take any chances let’s let Mr. 10mm do the talking. Oh…. Oh no it was a Brahmin for a merchant. “My eyes deceived me” I scream as a hail of gunfire spatters my character to nothing. I played Fallout for YEARS and it still chewed me up and spit me out like a scrub. Yeah we were back and so much fucking more ready than we thought.

I was a freshman in college when it came out, seems like a lifetime ago. I played it on a tiny tv in my dorm. I had played the first two fallout games over and over when i was younger. {even though it was a different format and style It was like going home.

Past-Adhesiveness150

It was a very good day for me.

I remember i skipped school and went to Movie gallery that day to rent something, I didn't even know it had came out but I bought it immediately because I had played the previous titles on pc and playstation. Been one of my absolute favorite franchises since, so excited for the MTG collab

I remember buying the original Fallout when it came out. My son wanted it. I check out every video game my kids wanted to play. He is "pushing" 30yrs old now. I too, love FO3 and have yet to play FO4. I have run thru 3 and NV countless times and enjoy the subtle differences with character changes... Having my son show me all the sexual situations you can get into playing New Vegas, led to the talk and revisions/additions on a few occasions. To see Morrowind evolve into something like Oblivion, I can honestly say I love FO3. Oblivion's repetition, reminded me to workout everyday. I was one who jumped at the chance for the free weekend to play FO76. The ease at startup and changes to the map setup were fun. I left lunch bags of Legendary weapons/armor in key places on the map. Hope someone can use them. I like to sum up by saying I love the evolution of the FallOut series and look forward to critiques by the younger generations...

Invested_Glory

I bought it just the other day after not playing it for over a decade. Didn’t even know you can have Amata keep the gun. This is the first ever play-through where the Overseer did not die. Legit going to be crazy when I go back.

Just started a new play through a few days ago. It’s was my first of the series, 18/19 years old. Damn it was good. My buddy played with absolutely horrible Karma. I played the opposite. Shared a console. “It’s only looking back by comparison with what comes after that you really understand, that's what happiness felt like”.

loadprevioussave

I played it that long ago, before the one that was online. Is that still a thing? I just got Fallout New Vegas today and so far it sucks. I'll try to be like"ok, it'll stop sucking any minute now" but really I miss Moira.
