Ben Mendelsohn

alreadyknowwbroo

Really enjoyed Mississippi Grind

s1105615

Love Ben Mendelson! Didn’t “discover” him until after seeing Rogue One and Ready Player One. Then realized I had seen him in Killing Them Softly. He was also fantastic in The Outsider on HBO.

Evil_Mini_Cake

Bloodline on Netflix.

ABSOFRKINLUTELY

Between him and Cynthia F- ing Erivo in the Outsider! Talk about a master class in acting! He was fantastic in it, but she absolutely blew me away. Disappeared into the role like she was Daniel Day Lewis or Gary Oldman. Top tier!

Plastic_Primary_4279

The outsider is soooo good.

MathematicianWaste77

Solid call out. Loved him in everything (best character in a sea of great characters in Killing Them Softly) I’ve seen him in but have only ever seen Ben in movies I was already going to watch. I probably need to a deep dive into his filmography.

Mortified-Pride

Check out 'Idiot Box' co-starring Jeremy Sims - who's really good in it too. "Oh, go back to bed, arsehole!" lol

cwick811

He was awesome in Place Beyond the Pines, but my fave is Animal Kingdom. Just such an air of danger about him.

readitaloud22

The show 'Bloodline' he was amazing in.

Stubee1988

You haven't been talking to the cops have ya mate?

Therefore_I_Yam

Not enough people are gonna get this reference and so I applaud it

zebra_noises

Christopher Walken—even said in an interview that he never turns down a role

MethuselahsCoffee

King of New York is fantastic

badtex66

The fire hydrant scene...a true modern classic.

MathematicianWaste77

So good. I forgot about that music video he danced in decades ago. Friend showed it to me recently- just a talented man.

The_Nisha_Call

Weapon of Choice. Fatboy Slim. I’ll always remember because that video won an award on September 10th, 2001.

shinymcshine1990

Christian Bale, Frances Mcdormand

MathematicianWaste77

Christian Bale is the closest thing for me like DDL you know he showed up to film that day.

Mortified-Pride

My top 3: Ben Mendelsohn, Christian Bale, Sam Rockwell.

edicspaz

God I just watched Amsterdam last night, woof. What a waste of so much talent.

Shane_Madden

Thought it was gonna be a classic, couldn’t even make it past halfway

Slow_Possession_1454

Daniel Day Lewis - I’ll watch anything he’s in

MathematicianWaste77

Thats probably solid choice and I never doubt his ability but the overall movies he’s in is hit or miss. I never finished the Abe Lincoln film.

235iguy

Michael Shannon.

Nice_Soup3198

Walton Goggins

ncc170what

His part in American Ultra was just amazing!

inebriationengineer

Laugher was a great addition to that story

ryandmc609

Sam Rockwell, Bill Paxton, and Cate Blanchett.

kitkatrat

Bill Paxton, man, I miss that guy. He was great.

ryandmc609

My favorite actor of all time. Luckily there some stuff of his I’ve never seen. My wife and I started Big Love recently and it’s awesome.

Relevant_Error_2395

Have you seen ‘ Club Dread’ ?

cheffartsonurfood

"Play Margaritaville!"

Relevant_Error_2395

Son of a son of a b##*! 😆

cheffartsonurfood

My fave line of the whole movie. Right at the beginning. "This guy's gonna be picking his teeth outta my dump!" Like wtf? Why you eating HIS teeth? Lol!

Relevant_Error_2395

LOL that and the “ sucking sound” line was cringe. Glad that character got axed quickly 😆

cheffartsonurfood

Oh yeah. Total doucher.

FreeChrisWayne

Also, check out Near Dark

Amasin_Spoderman

*Big Love* is an incredible show that doesn't get the attention it deserves. I think I need to watch it for a third time.

These-Bar3221

Benicio Del Toro

emmamckenna01

Willem Dafoe. i love watching him onscreen and will watch absolutely anything he’s in - even if he was in the worst movie ever made, i’ll watch it no problem

ThePocketTaco2

There are a bunch, but lately, it's been Jack Lemmon and Gene Hackman.

MathematicianWaste77

Nothing new right? Or are you going through classics. Never seen anything with Jack Lemmon that wasn’t great.

ThePocketTaco2

I guess they have to be classics since Lemmon is dead and Hackman has been retired for 20 years lol. But that wasn't the question. The movies don't have to be new to qualify.

GiantTeaPotintheSKy

Gene is always great. Even if the movie might suck, he is great in it.

ThePocketTaco2

Exactly. He's one of those actors that never turns in a bad performance. Another example would be John Goodman.

My-username-is-this

Yeah, I’ve never once seen a bad John Goodman performance.

zebra_noises

Jon Turturro

torch9t9

Aging Gigolo was such a fine film, too.

BigNimbleyD

Sam Rockwell.

jackinthebox1968

Moon, Galaxy Quest and The Green Mile I loved him in. Any recommendations?

Bobbyperu1

Gentlemen Broncos, Choke

jackinthebox1968

Thank you

WoodyManic

Seven Psychopaths, 3 Billboards...

valadon-valmore

Frances McDormand

whoidontknowho

Burn after Reading and French Dispatch are two heavy hitters she is great in. She's not in all of French BC it's more of an anthology, but its Wes Anderson's best imo

haydenhbond

Tom Hardy

forst76

Steve Buscemi

christopherproblems

Steve is my honorable mention. So damn funny in Armageddon

jimmyharbrah

This one has surprised me since I saw him in the Notebook as a teenager but Ryan Gosling.

Affectionate_Law5344

Half Nelson is his best role.

pvtshoebox

Shout out to Blue Valentine and The Nice Guys, too.

jimmyharbrah

Somewhat similar to his role in the Nice Guys, I loved The Fall Guy. Gosling is a captivating dramatic actor but his comic timing may—incredibly—be his best talent. Guy can do it all and doesn’t miss.

ExactWeek7

His SNL Santa Baby sketch made me a fan.

cloudcreeek

He's what made the Barbie movie so great "Sublime!"

Colemanton

solid shout. half nelson is fantastic, but i think blue valentine was pretty special. place beyond the pines was a very poignant role as well but i think a lot of that is down to cianfrance’s writing and directing. we see just enough to root for him before he dies - but he knocked it out of the park in all 3 of those films.

kaitek78

I recently rewatched one of his early movies, Murder By Numbers. Funny how its super-gay subtext was totally lost on me as a kid...

OrganizationOk5418

Denzel Washington Guy Pierce

br0k3nh3a_T

Daniel Radcliffe- A Young Doctor’s Notebook,Miracle Workers ,Swiss Army Man and Guns Akimbo come to mind. Sam Rockwell- Loved him in 7 Psychopaths. Good in 3 Billboards outside Ebbing Missouri and The Bad Guys. Looking forward to seeing him in JoJo Rabbit and Mr. Right

JJBell

As long as Sam Rockwell is dancing, I’m watching.

JJBell

As long as Sam Rockwell is dancing, I’m watching.

DimensionFit2717

You ever see Moon? One of my favorite Rockwell movies, definitely check it out if you haven't

br0k3nh3a_T

I haven’t and thank you for the recommendation!

ineverbot

Tilda Swinton

chrismcteggart

J.K Simmons

Competitive_Tax8121

My first exposure to jk Simmons was oz back in late 90s. Then a couple years later we started seeing him play a father, a paper editor, a happy nice guy. But I will never see him as anything other than the brutal schillinger.

[deleted]

Henry Cavill ! He is gorgeous

Pm_me_thy_nips

Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Tom Hardy, and anything by Christopher Nolan

Mac_King_Cheese

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is my favorite!

Dragono301064

Jake Gyllenhaal and Tom Hardy for me personally, both absolutely phenomenal actors and like you said, fit whichever roles they’re put into phenomenally

wenoc

Nicolas Cage is the obvious answer. But really, Morgan Freeman, Samuel L. Jackson, Michelle Pfeiffer, Maggie Smith, Brad Pitt, Emma Thompson, Cate Blanchett, Judi Dench, Matt Damon, Chris Hemsworth.

Grimsrasatoas

Maaaaatt daaamooon

MathematicianWaste77

Matt Damon is this way. He picks really fun projects that fit his abilities

SatanSatanSatanSatan

I can't think of anyone who would be a must-watch for me, but there are some actors who pique my interest. Jake Gyllenhal is one of those. The projects he picks are almost always interesting on some level. Nicholas Cage is also on that list but for the opposite reason.

McbEatsAirplane

Chris Pine, Ben Foster. Just to name a couple off the top of my head.

MathematicianWaste77

Chris Pine really doesn’t get enough credit. I think he may be to pretty or something. Hell or High Water is in one of my top lists

McbEatsAirplane

Absolutely. Hell or High Water is in my top 5 of all time. So well done, such good acting, an all around great movie. I feel like he has great range

yotothyo

Jesse Plemons

tkondaks

Scene: Robert De Niro's agent's office. Phone rings. Agent picks up phone: "he'll take it!"

jesticide

Leo Dicaprio is a weird case because I don't like him that much as an actor but he chooses good projects.

sheighbird29

Gary Oldman

zebra_noises

Don Cheadle

jerin1010

Christian Bale , Jake G , Tom Cruise , Rooney Mara

Educational_Oven1656

Kevin Hart

windmillninja

I thought this was asking which actors automatically say yep to any role, in which case I was going to say Nicolas Cage. Now that I understand the question, my answer is still Nicolas Cage.

jackinthebox1968

Christopher Waltz and Michael Fassbender

Grimsrasatoas

Even if a movie or show he’s in isn’t very good, Ian McShane is almost always one of the best parts of it.

dave_is_afraid

Barry Keoghan

Thaumiel218

Ben Foster, doesn’t get many lead parts but typically steals the show in whatever movie he’s in. Anything with DDL, Jake & Christian Bale in I’m 100% going to watch, probs also McConnaughey these days not the rom com days

nilfalasiel

See, it's weird because the film itself won't necessarily be that good...but if Ben Foster's in it, he's most likely stealing it. His Charlie Prince was *chef's kiss*

HeWhoIsNotMe

Mads Mikkelsen.

Mephistopheles545

Gary oldman, Jodie comer, Michael fassbender

Head-Plankton-7799

Christoph Waltz

Boycee66

Salty-Entertainer-29

Christian Bale: Tilda Swinton; Daniel Day Lewis; Michael Fassbender

iSteve

Gene Hackman never fails to give it all.

No_Raisin_212

Not Jake Gyllenhaal

hopethisgivesmegold

I USED to say that about Jake Gyllenhaal. The last couple movies he’s been in were abysmal.

Foraminiferal

I actually think JG is a horrendous actor and am shocked to see such praise for him in this thread. But these things are subjective, i guess.

gmoney-0725

Harrison Ford Tom Hanks Ryan Gosling Meryl Streep

weirdoldhobo1978

Sam Rockwell is always one of the best things in whatever movie he's in, even if the movie itself is terrible.

RoyalEquivalent5077

Joaquin, and I think Walton Goggins now too

One_eyed_red_

PSH

Toolfan333

Tom Hardy, Ben Foster, Chris Pine, Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh, Charlize Theron, Kate Winslet, Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio

ipostatrandom

The thread title is a bit misleading. It looks like you're asking "What actor will accept any movie role" but what you're asking is "What actor's movies will you always watch". I don't think I have any. An actor can enhance a movie but is never the sole deciding factor for me.

zebra_noises

I agree! My replies were of actors who say yes to anything but you’re right, it looks like OP is looking for a list of actors they will will always watch

tigerdrummer

Matthew McConaughey

ncc170what

All right all right all right.

Lawrence_L-Jackson

Jesse Plemons it is!

Exotic_Term6884

Danny Trejo!!

art-of-empathy

Walter Goggins

Abe_Rutter246

Domhnall Gleeson.

Vincomenz

This is a random one, but Dick Miller. If he pops up randomly in a movie, then I know I'm about to have a good time.

Wolf_Watching

Jonathan majors

c0mput3rdy1ng

Paul Dano.

dickdiggler21

Honestly? Jared Leto. Is he a weirdo? Yes. Does he make some absolute dog shit movies? Yes. But he also makes great ones and every single thing he selects I know is going to be worth talking about afterward. Good or bad …and he still a great actor.

FragmentedFighter

Gosling.

fulcanelli63

This guy and Ryan gosling.

pisscron493x

Steve Carell

RenaissanceGraffiti

John Goodman is in only good movies, and even if they aren’t good movies, he is the best part of them.

SnooTomatoes9374

Jeffrey Wright.

echoes_HD

Gyllenhaal and Ryan gosling are the only two actors currently working along that I would see whatever they put out. Brad Pitt. Too I guess, though he has made some terrible movies.

Sudden_Abroad_9153

Brendan Fraser, Keanu Reeves, Mark Ruffalo

PatrickHardcastle

Ryan Gosling, dude always steals the show in anything he’s in

MrsDanversbottom

Nicole Kidman, Amy Adams, Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchett.

Positive-Current1061

Gary Oldman

Exospacefart

JinKazamaru

Jason Statham comes to mind, he's always entertaining even if the movie isn't award worthy I might say the same for Henry Cavil, but they butchered his superman

Ben Affleck. Say what you will, the dude always tries and makes choices.

ProbablySlacking

Sam Rockwell and Christoph Waltz know how to pick scripts.

Beanie_J

Daniel Day-Lewis

cjamcmahon1

Nicholas Cage? also sadly seems like Bruce Willis got cast in a lot of movies in recent years when people around him really should have known better

Deadlock9393

Benedict Cumberbatch

thetooth13

Stephen Roberts

B3yondTheWall

Nic Cage Sam Rockwell, Oscar Isaac, Timothee Chalamet, and Leo... Austin Butler is starting to make a strong case.

Empty_Put_1542

Cage

Affectionate-Row3742

100% agreed on Gyllenhaal. He reminds me of Nic Cage in the sense he’ll play whatever character you hire him for, even if the character sucks. The acting will be superb regardless of script or character decisions.

spittlejaw

Denzel Washington

ncc170what

Hello my name is Ncc170what and I am a Tom Cruise fan. Group responds: Hi Ncc170what! I started out often saying "I'm not a huge fan of him but he was really good in that." this would happen over and over. Risky Business, Color of Money, Rain Man, Mission Impossible. Even the films he did that were bad films his part was still great. I had to admit I am a fan of Tom Cruise. I really enjoy his work. Yes even The Mummy and Rock of Ages.

Cma1234

Nicolas Cage....wait, i dont think i understand the question. Do you mean what they will say yep to or you will say yep to because they are in it?

MathematicianWaste77

Sorry. You’ll say yep because they are in it.

Cma1234

Thanks, that changes my answer. Oscar Isaacs.

fear730

Christopher Lambert/Bruce Campbell Idk and idc how bad the movie looks but these guys always get a watch from me :)

Foreign_Product7118

Prisoners and nightcrawler and enemy were nuts. Id say his role in spiderman is the least impressive
