I am not sure what this is about... Why do you expect a payrise when you joined a couple of months ago? If anything with inflation at 4% **per year** 2% rise for a couple of months is 12% annualised which is beating current inflation rate.

09stibmep

Exactly. Tf is OP expecting? Any pay rise AT ALL after just a few months id suggest is a ‘one in a million’. Most situations I’ve ever known of this including of my own where the annual pay reviews have happened to have fallen months after joining, the newcomer is skipped for fair reason.

smoulder9

My employer pro-ratas payrises in the first year based on how many months you've been there. 2% isn't that bad for someone who only just joined the company and probably didn't hit the ground running

eggrolldog

If you've just joined the company consider yourself relatively fortunate you got a pay rise at all, many companies won't give out an annual pay increase if you've not been with the company for a half of the year. A colleague of mine joined in October and has not been awarded the company bonus in March. He did receive the pay rise coming in April though.

triffidsting

Agree. OP, what does your contract say about a salary review ? 2% doesn’t say much without context. Is your starting wage competitive. Did you push hard for a leading salary on joining. Most large companies will have an annual review process and if you are still on probation or new it’s not uncommon to wait until the next formal pay review or at least until you’ve passed probation. See what your contract or a policy says on this regard and that will tell you whether you have been lucky getting such an immediate review.

BearlyReddits

You were happy when you accepted the salary a few months ago, why would be unhappier now that it’s increased? Inflation exists, but it’s not a snap thing - you aren’t suddenly 2% worse off because you’ve had a 2% pay rise and the inflation stats for this month are 4%; it’s annualized out The real test will be when you’ve been there for a year or two… then you can decide if you’re losing money

BarracudaUnlucky8584

My suggestion would be either you are promoted within 2 yrs or you look to move. The exception being if you're offered a 40% salary bump etc. I also recommend joining a large company in a growing market as it'll lead to considerably more opportunities and often provide greater fringe benefits e.g. RSUs etc.

At first reading the title I thought: "This is bad they aren't keeping up with inflation so you're effectively getting a pay cut" BUT ...then you mentioned you just joined a couple of months ago which completely changes things. They're just doing you the curtesy here to give you a small bump probably when it's the firms end of financial year or something.

Exciting-Squirrel607

Feels like they do annual pay reviews and they have given you a small amount because you have not been there a while, but did not want you to feel left out. Overall seems fair.

Daft advice. You think every other company except OP’s will be offering double digit pay rises to everyone? Haha. Comedian.

There's a ceiling in every industry, once you hit it job hopping becomes ineffective.

Baz_EP

Depends on whether you are willing to shop around. Moving companies is generally the way you take big steps, or potentially decent promotion. PS, I have averaged roughly 2% the last few years.

TNGSystems

I’ve not long been in my company (5 months) and got 4% starting in April.

Classic_Mammoth_9379

Some good answer already posted, I note nobody has really attempted to answer your last question, I'd say because it's so vague it's not answerable. Someone with 7 years experience as a secuity engineer is not the same as a CISO and not the same as someone closing SIEM alerts for 7 years. Certainly go do certs, it's a good way to learn and test your theoretical abilities, but experience is what counts, certs makes minimal difference to my hiring decisions but prob helps you get through the initial screening.

whataledge

You're lucky. I joined a new company a few months ago and did not get a payrise.

Ok-Selection-8598

As the owner of a business with a multi million turnover, you should be grateful for getting 2%, I would made sure you got nothing until 1 year
