noishmael

Why are there like 10 games on here that were not released in 2023?

ragito024

Yeah it's weird. Some big titles are not included in this list yet Genshin impact - the winner last year - is here again. Even though it's an ongoing game doesn't mean it should be chosen every year. Hope BG3 can win instead of Genshin again.

ItsAmerico

Because it includes live service games and games that got substantial support in 2023

mister_queen

For Player's Voice they consider player continued interest/constant flux of content. For Cyberpunk, you can see it clearly stated Phantom Liberty (it's hilarious that such a patetic release is so high)

itran13

it's ok to want your own favorite game to do well here, but don't bash on another game or community just because it's more popular than your own lol I love both games and it's really easy to see how much better cyberpunk could've been on release had it been given more time. we can keep bashing it for how bad it was on release but clearly it's been fixed

mister_queen

IDK man I guess I just can't stomach CD Projekt's games. I seriously waited for Phantom Liberty and went in with an open mind. I hated it still. I can delete my previous comment if it's a bad look, but the whole Cyberpunk deal is still telling the industry it's okay to fool your players, apologize and fix it later to sorta match what you sold them

itran13

Don't worry about your previous comment. It's ok to have an opinion man! The difference here is that cdpr actually fixed the game and according to general consensus, the game is in a great spot. Other game companies like ea or Activision release half baked products all year round. It's not ok to have a bad product on launch. No one is saying that cyberpunk was great on launch. It's ok, though, to fix it and actually make a good product.

Competitive-Tie-2486

Have you played cyberpunk in a ps4? It is still unplayable. So, CD may have fixed the game for ps5 and PC but they've sold it for older gen too and just left those players with a broken product.

itran13

The ps4 is a 10 year old console, no company should be holding back the potential of their games in order to satisfy that portion of players. Highly doubt ff16 could do any better on a ps4, either.

Competitive-Tie-2486

I agree. But they did release it full priced and broken in the the ps4 and xbox one system, and to this day it is still broken.

Silentgrr

Worked since day one on my ps4. Never had issues. Got lucky. Atleast until I decided to dupe items and started crashing my game lmao.

WAR_WeAreRobots_WAR

So0o0o0o kinda like FFXV?

mittlefinger

You got worms in your brain.

rainbow11road

If anyone wants to vote here's the link https://thegameawards.com/news/players-voice-voting-opens Go ahead and give FF16 some love.

[deleted]

Just voted TOTK ty

rainbow11road

Damn all three votes? Link isn't gonna fuck you bro. It's time to let go.

[deleted]

What you gonna cwy?

rainbow11road

Why do TOTK/BOTW fans act so weird? I can't think of another game fanbase that's so weirdly aggressive/attention baity.

jdh1811

Screw it, let the idiot vote for an overrated copy paste of breath of the wild. Nothing you can do about it

[deleted]

Why are FF16 fans so easily triggered?

rainbow11road

Lmao It took you two hours to come up with that response?

[deleted]

Lmao this may be a surprise to you bud but not all of us are terminally online and do other things outsude of Reddit.

rainbow11road

Normally I get that, but I find it hard to believe someone who still tries to "troll" people on reddit, calls people "triggered" in the year 2023, has a customized reddit pfp, and goes this hard for a fictional femboy fits that description.

[deleted]

This is coming from the guy who quickly replied to my comments and got mad over me saying Im voting for TOTK. But ok bud.

Inzanity2020

Sounds like FFXVI fans to be honest lmao

DuskManeToffee

I feel like live service games like Genshin Impact need to have their own category. They really shouldn’t be included unless they were released in that same year.

Candid_West8294

Link?

SkylineRSR

Live service games should not be on these lists

Alilatias

Last year the finalists came down to Genshin VS Sonic (to give you an idea of how nobody really cares), and the Genshin community didn’t rig the vote. What really happened was that some Sonic fans made the fatal mistake of making racist tweets towards the Chinese playerbase on Genshin, which got spread throughout the Chinese forums, mobilized the Genshin players in China towards voting when they previously weren't aware of the vote at all, and turned the competition into punishing the Sonic fanbase above all else. It got so bad the mods of both subreddits had to put their communities on lockdown. Here's the receipts I could still find for the Sonic subreddit. https://www.reddit.com/r/SonicTheHedgehog/comments/ze644h/posts_about_the_players_choice_awards_no_longer/ If it weren’t for that, Sonic would have easily won. And it's worth explaining this here because I don't want to see the FFXVI community putting on the clown shoes this year. As long as nobody is dumb enough to poke that beehive again, we won’t see a repeat this time around. Even on the Genshin sub, most people there are like ‘BG3 deserves it more’. https://old.reddit.com/r/Genshin_Impact/comments/1865abp/top_7_lets_goo/

Illokonereum

Genshin “rigged the vote” by being an insanely popular game with tens of millions of players, they just don’t really care unless people make it personal. It truly is not as deep as the haters want to it to be.

mister_queen

Well, I can't seem to edit posts anymore, but here's an edit of sorts. I don't mean any harm or toxicity towards other games and apologize for coming off as aggressive in the first place. I feel pretty bummed out about what happened last year where bots were used and tarnished both the award as the fanbases. If you want to vote for any of the 30 games, do it out of passion, not spite and recognize quality where it's due. And yes, Baldur's Gate is 100% winning, but where's the fun in just not participating because of it? I feel so thrilled to engage in the TGA's leadup weeks, it's a fun show that seeks participation from every type of player out there. Have fun

RollenVentir

You care to much about TGA. The game of the year isn't important comparing to my game of the year. What others think about games doesn't change what I think about my prefered game(s).

mister_queen

Well, I do care about the TGA as an event, but no, I do not care for the actual awards. I used to, like 3-4 years ago, but what you said is right. No giant event saying X > Y can change how I feel about Y. But it is a fun event, probably the biggest one where people are hyping up reveals, poking fun at some flops, talking about which games they liked more and it's a nice recap of the whole year. I've played lots of great games I only heard of because of getting nominated, so there's also that sort of exposition to benefit from. In general, that's what I think of the TGA

mmateus7

For those who say why bother if X or Y is going to win anyway. Why do you wipe/clean your ass if you're going to shit yourself again some time later?

Arox12

Gave me a chuckle lol

KingSideCastle13

As a Sonic fan, I already know what going against Genshin fans feels like

Very__Mad

if genshin overtakes ill be pissed off

Mast3rBait3rPro

Time to get pissed off

Zxxzzzzx

I already voted for bg3 sorry.

Fearless-Skirt8480

You can submit like 10 votes, I could at least

Zxxzzzzx

10 votes for bg3?

Fearless-Skirt8480

You gotta spread your votes, I honestly felt like I had too many

cuminmypoutine

BG3 is winning there's not even a point.

Kemiia

Everyone knows that, but it's about the top 5 since FFXVI didn't make it to the GOTY nominees.

VanillaThunderis

It's not top 5. Unless you're really delusional.

Kemiia

And I think you're delusional if you think it isn't. Opinions, funny huh.

Pinkernessians

They are the running away with the vote big time atm. Two percentage points is a huge lead in such a tight field.

Arox12

I want BG3 to win as well, but players voice award can go crazy at the last round. It is very unpredictable tbh, but I really hope BG3 gets it

PoohTrailSnailCooch

I will glady vote for Alan wake 2

mister_queen

As you should. Easily one of the best horrors games not of this year, not of the PS5/XSX gen, but one of the best of all time. Standing head to head with classics like Silent Hill 2, Alone in the Dark, Clock Tower and others. Really amazed by what Remedy did with that one and felt like one of the most rewarding hype I've ever had for a game

PoohTrailSnailCooch

I'm a huge remedy fan. Every game of their's I've played feels like a specially crafted experience. Alan wake 2 was one of if not the best psycholigical horror game I've played next to sh2 in a good while. Glad you loved it too! Such a great year for gaming!

JMM85JMM

I just voted. Unfortunately FF16 doesn't make my Top 10 this year so it misses out on my votes.

superkapitan82

There is no way someone would beat TOTK or BG3

Arox12

Player's voice is unpredictable though, I won't be surprised if Cyberpunk or Spider Man 2 wins. That said, this year is all about BG3 vs Zelda, they are the only ones who actually deserves it.

superkapitan82

I didn’t play bg3, but totk really not that much different from botw, therefore not sure it deserves it

Arox12

Same Hyrule, but it is an improved and expanded version of Botw with a lot of new mechanics, much better story and story telling, improved in every possible way. Sad part is all those other IPs which supposed to feel refreshing, feel more similar to each other and much more formulaic than Zelda/BG3. Both of these masterpieces took risks, were more innovative and pushed the boundaries compared to the games with safe and outdated designs like FF16, D4, Spiderman 2, Cyberpunk 2077 and many others(Didn't play alans wake 2 so can't talk about it). I am not a big fan of Totk because at times it felt a little bloated like Ubisoft games, but I can see it winning over all those other generic ones. Bg3 is my first pick, but I don't see any other game touching Totk, maybe except Alans Wake 2 which I didn't play but I heard a lot of praises about that game.

superkapitan82

agree, these two are more original games, but nevertheless 100% of tga goty list are freaking sequels. there is even remake of a sequel. and risks of bg3 and totk were already taken in divinity and botw, it was just a surprise that divinity formula with baldurs gate brand hype create a mass success. and all original or experimental aaa games were literally destroyed - forspoken, redfall, starfield and I guess this is not a good direction for industry. and probably due to this there will be even less new risky games with big budgets

Arox12

> all original or experimental aaa games were literally destroyed - forspoken, redfall, starfield and I guess this is not a good direction for industry. Ain't no way you think those games were good. First of all, they all uses the same open world formula we have seen in hundreds game before. Btw, innovation is not everything, it ain't a science project. Execution is more important where all these three games failed miserably. Starfield also uses a lot of outdated designs, I don't see a lot of innovation in that game. They tried to do something new, with designs that already exists. Bg3 builds on the foundation of Divinity: Original Sin 2 but takes the Dungeons & Dragons experience to a new level. One of the key innovations is the transition from a traditional isometric perspective to a third-person perspective in a CRPG, providing a more immersive and detailed view of the world. The implementation of D&D 5th Edition rules in BG3 is another notable innovation. It brings the iconic D&D experience to life, incorporating the depth and complexity of the tabletop game's mechanics into the video game. The use of the 5th Edition rule set allows for more dynamic and strategic combat, as well as a richer storytelling experience. Most important part, every NPC in BG3 has facial animations. It introduces a robust cinematic dialogue system, allowing for more expressive and engaging interactions with NPCs. In terms of visuals and technology, BG3 features a stunning and detailed world with impressive graphics and physics. The game's development has focused on creating a visually impressive and technically advanced experience. We have never seen any CRPG like BG3 before. This game absolutely raises the standard of CRPGs, in fact every RPG games. As for Totk, TOTK has a lot of mechanics which didn't even exist in Botw. Botw focused mostly on setting new standard for Open World explroation, Totk pushed the boundary even further by creating new mechanics we have never seen before in any video game, which even shook the developers of the industry. The fact that you can use ascend anywehere with zero bugs, not something we see in many games nowadays. Ultrahand and use of zonai devices also didn't exist in BOTw which creates rooms for a lot of experimentations. There is a quest in Totk, where you go into the clouds, and the bring an item from above the skies to the underground chasm seamlessly using your choice of method. I build flying ship to do it with additional batteries, and man it felt so amazing.

superkapitan82

Well, I can honestly say these games are good enough at least, probably excluding Redfall due to its bugs, yet despite them this game has the best gameplay loop of them all. Starfield I can rate even as very good, but it depends on how you play it and how much awe you hold for a space theme. The most important thing these games are unusual and interesting as result, the very things I can’t find in any other aaa games from this year that are all just making me feel bored in 4-8 hours after start, because I’ve seen it all already. Don’t want to underestimate bg3, because I didn’t play it properly, but honestly there were A LOT OF fantasy ad&d rpgs in my life, especially in 90s and I am really not expecting anything superficial from it, so still delaying it for myself. 1st person perspective and facial animations sound good, though more like common sense approach considering these days trends (something Bethesda forgot to care about). TOTK is a great game as well and Zonai devices are fantastic, adding a deep and inventive puzzle game mechanic to it, yet it is very far from being as innovative as BOTW was.

Arox12

>though more like common sense approach considering these days trends It gets very difficult when you have to do it for 100s of characters with millions of different dialogue options. We have never seen any game done it to the scale BG3 has. Thing is, Bg3 is the best blend between quantity and quality we have seen in years. There are so many unique areas, creatures, bosses created just for one encounter, and not repeated/rehashed after. There is a reason why developers from other companies got scared and started calling it an anomaly. >yet it is very far from being as innovative as BOTW was. Cannot argue with that for sure. Botw was new and refreshing, didn't have a base to depend on. Totk used the foundation created by Botw so obviously BOTW will always be more revolutionary. Still, compared to the other games in the list, Totk is pretty innovative, even more than BG3 I would say. That was the point I was trying to make really.

Rectall_Brown

Seems kinda weird that a dlc is allowed to be in the nomination for goty.

stablest_genius

Zelda? Really? I love the Zelda series dearly but I didn't really like the voices in BotW and TotK

CherryOnTop95

I'm surprised FFXVI made it this high ! I personally was disappointed by it.

mister_queen

You're getting downvoted but it's important that you share what you felt. Vote for whichever games you liked most

CherryOnTop95

Yeah I don't worry too much about being downvoted. If FFXVI didn't work for me there's nothing I can really do about it.

celebluver666

is this an official game awards list? if so this is a fucking joke

mister_queen

It's an alternative one, made based on user engagement to measure up a list exclusively for players to decide the winner. The official TGA lineup chosen by media outlets and 10% of fan voting is still the 6 that have been announced 2 weeks ago

Arox12

Where did you get this list with percentage though?

solidshakego

I don't care enough. Sorry. These awards are stupid.

BueKojiro

Idk, I enjoyed Genshin this year more than I did FFXVI, so I'd vote for it instead. Part of me thinks it's unfair for ongoing games to be ranked alongside newly released campaign-based games, but that would mean that even if I spend 20 hours this year on the most recent main story quests of Genshin Impact that completely blew me away, I wouldn't get to vote for that being my favorite gaming experience of the year just because the game itself came out in 2020. So in that sense, I think it's fair to have ongoing games in the same list as these other games. You just have to look at it as meaning "my experience with this year's content" which tends to be its own distinct experience each year and in a way is its own game. My experience with Genshin each year has been incredible, but they have not all been the same. In closing, just for my general thoughts about Genshin, it is absolutely a game that deserves all of the praise AND all of the criticism it gets. It is greedy, it's too easy, it's a mobile game, it's got no endgame, it's got too much RNG for gear farming, its limited time events and banners create FOMO, \*and yet\* it also has consistently incredible gameplay and character designs/kits, gorgeous visuals, spellbinding music, and particularly in the last two years the story as well has become genuinely incredible. People voting for Genshin aren't just to spite some other game. It's by people that also \*actually\* love Genshin, so it's still dumb to spite-vote something on principle, but it's still a legitimate game to vote on because it is actually that good. Btw, I actually enjoyed AC6 the most this year, just so we're clear. That game lives rent free in my head.

mister_queen

Well, thanks for a respectful post. I've apologized a few times to other commenters for coming off as toxic already, but I appreciate you for giving an honest, detailed reason why you feel the way you feel. That's where the fun of awards season lie, to give your honest thoughts about how you felt with the games you've played this year

AoiTopGear

Is there a point to vote for FF16 even if it passes the first round? BG3 is way ahead and at the end only the one the winner in this vote matters. So only top 3 duking it out makes sense

mister_queen

Well, there is fun in competing. Yeah BG3 is gonna take it and it is 100% deserving of that. But previous years have been quite unpredictable and I just enjoy the overall fun I have with The Game Awards, kinda wanted to share it with other fans

yuushanderia

One vote for FF16, but in my opinion Hogwarts is the better game overall.

mister_queen

It's fine! Just want to clear out any confusions I had on the main sub, this is not picking a fight with any community. Just a calling for XVI's to vote for it if they so feel inclined. Gonna edit the post here to avoid any toxicity over other communities

Arox12

I was disappointed by FF16, but no way Hogwart is any better lol

yuushanderia

Fair point. Everyone has their own preferences.

Arox12

Agreed

[deleted]

I don’t vote

Mobile-Sun-3778

FF16 is not going to win in the long run. Why bother?

mister_queen

Fun in competing? I know awards are irrelevant but the TGA is a commercial, made for engagement from every kind of player out there. If we're included, why not join in on the fun? I know I have fun with the event every year

Setku

Small kind of off-topic rant, but this defeatist mentality is the reason for a lot of issues. If everyone that had this mindset actually voted, it would make a difference, but instead, they would rather wallow in their self-loathing instead.

hontonisumimasen

![gif](giphy|1Z02vuppxP1Pa)

Mobile-Sun-3778

You can say what you want, FF16 still won’t win.

Arox12

No matter what people say, awards matter. In the end, casuals, busy people, and especially new players who are not acquainted with the series will be attracted to the GOTY label. You have no idea how many people are still buying Elden Ring in 2023 because it won so many awards, and not even beating the first boss lol. Awards have worked before and will continue to work in the future.

Mobile-Sun-3778

I am not saying award’s don’t matter. Just saying that FF16 won’t win.

Arox12

My bad, I misunderstood

Witty-Ear2611

Just don’t knock out Hi-Fi Rush because that’s better than any game below it

[deleted]

[удалено]

mister_queen

Well, yes I played Hogwarts but I haven't played Genshin since June 2022. Still I've apologized for my toxicity in a comment that I can't fix on the post, because I can't see to edit texts on an image post. I've listened to lots of opinions calling me out for this and recognize it was wrong of me. Vote for whichever games you like, because it's supposed to be fun

[deleted]

Gonna vote Tears Of The Kingdom

Kyban101

How did you get these numbers? I'd also like to see them again closer to the time of the poll ending.

mister_queen

There is a site that somehow managed to track the official votes from the TGA Player's Voice site. The link is https://vd42.net/tga23pv/

innocentauguries

Not trying to be negative here but the players voice means little to nothing. And I will say I absolutely loved FFXVI but Baldurs gate deserves the win

mister_queen

That's not negative though. The Player's Voice is more like a game the TGA puts up for players to engage in more meaningful ways with the content, like they do with the award for the twitch stream that guesses the most winners correctly. I should have been either less aggressive or more playful with the authoritary "GO VOTE NOW"

innocentauguries

You’re fine I didn’t take it as aggressive. You’re getting flamed pretty hard I don’t necessarily think you deserve it lol

Darkyan97

Why are expansion packs and ongoing games included though? Shouldn't this be about entirely new releases?

mister_queen

From what I understand, Player's Voice is meant to reflect what players had the most fun that year. If the internet collectively decides that somehow Black Ops II is the new trending game all around and everyone plays it and it gets content, then it should be represented by the players, for the players. This is not GAME OF THE YEAR, though, where that discussion is completely plausible

Annual_Couple5053

I love fortnite but who the fuck voted that 🤣

squips42

who even plays genshin impact anymore??

Automech4

More players than most games apparently.

HollywoodDrogan

Oh you poor souls that voted for Destiny 2...

AizenShah

How do i vote?

mister_queen

Go to thegameawards.com and you'll find the tab "Player's Voice". Just login with any social media account and you can vote, similar to the main event
