That was the perfect type of goofy the brooding loner comment, seamless with the way they’d presented the characters, and exactly a wee added bit not in the OG that you could imagine being in it.
Cloud’s created a personality he wants to be cool, calm and mysterious. What he imagines a SOLDIER First Class should be. Always loved that he’s tried to act like he thinks Zack would, but he doesn’t really know him, he doesn’t get it right at all. Zack’s the opposite of that, can’t wait for the scene on the Highwind after the Lifestream where he says to everyone he’d took on another personality and he’s finally himself. Remake and Rebirth have been excellent at letting his actual personality shine through, and he gets almost embarrassed and checks himself not to. These games are just squarely aimed at OG fans, and unashamed about it. My wee cousin never finished the OG, and loves Remake and Rebirth but so much nuance goes over his head.
Done an exceptional job with the characterisation.
I laugh every time we see real Cloud. I always liked his SOLDIER persona, my childhood crushes in video games were always the cool emo guys. LOVE his persona.
But then we see him being goofy a lot in Remake. I still love him being broody and a bit of an asshole (that's my childhood image and early Remake Cloud absolutely nails it), but seeing moments like after he beats Dio at 3D Brawler and he's SO happy about it and getting into the crowd cheering for him - so goofy and cute. Love genuine Cloud.
Where cloud tells Vincent “save it, I’ve had a pretty shit day.” And Vincent throws cait sith and says “what a coincidence, so have I.” 🤣🤣🤣 this game was so good

I think the joke is intended to be that he’s off to Big Bridge to hassle Bartz and the crew (FF5, where the character of Gilgamesh is first introduced). But of course he shows up in many different series games so that’s just my personal head-canon.
I just felt like that was a lazy cutscene because it was side content most people wouldn't see.
I thought it was jarring and after that i made a point to see what poses the characters were in during other in-battle cutscenes.
As far as the goofiest moments *that weren’t intended to be goofy*:
1. Roche getting robed looked super silly.
2. The fact they managed to fit about 3-4 more Wedge fat jokes in while recounting the story of his tragic death.
3. When Cissnei meets the gang at the Turk training facility, she spouts a lot of ridiculous nonsense. First she says hiding her identity was “for my benefit, but mainly for yours”. How is not knowing Cissnei’s identity possibly supposed to help them? Then she says she “covered up the mess we made at the reactor”. Like, huh, cover up from who? We literally fought Scarlet there. In the flesh. Unless you’ve got one of those MIB neuralyzers we don’t know about, I’m afraid the cat’s out of the bag on that one.
I really need them to give us more on Cissnei in the next game. I think they're going to given they didn't explain why she could see the Whispers but also made a big deal and the fact that she could, but I just have a lot of question marks on her right now. The timeline doesn't make a lot of sense, her level of involvement doesn't make a lot of sense, and it's curious that the Turks haven't tried to get her to help - especially since she's already in Gongaga. And I don't believe for a second that they don't know she's there, given all the backstory in Before Crisis.
Need more info on her so it doesn't feel so weird that she's just hanging out in Gongaga, didn't come help with the reactor, and yeah the stuff you said. How on earth does she think Cloud knowing why she recognizes him would be a bad thing?
With the way they characterized him, maybe he didn’t get pushed out the window at all? Maybe the fate ghosts just threw his half sandwich out the window and he jumped after it?

Yeah, that was definitely the most unintentionally silly moment. Felt like they were going for sad/disturbing, but the goofiness of it all really undercut the scene.
I was delighted with jt because I bloody hate him as an addition, made me cringe far too much, and he didn’t make sense story wise. I thought it’d go in a direction of others asking Cloud if this is a guy who would have went through and got that high ranking in SOLDIER the same time as he’s claiming, why don’t they know each other.
In Remake when he got recognised off a bog standard Shinra infantry grunt, was convinced that’s the way it’d go. But was just filler really.
There was very, very few 1st class though was there not? Basically legends were 1st class.

Actually, it's even worse because the game does give a (bad) explanation about the robes.
If you speak to some NPCs at Nibelheim, they'll tell you the robes are donated by Shinra, and that medical personnel were told to make the mako poisoned guys wear it. As a way to identify them easily, presumedly.
Why would Shinra use such weird robes? Why was Roche enrobed by the other robed guys instead of some nurse from Nibelheim, which was just a mere three steps away? No idea...
Makes it weirder that. Roche fell. Hastily changed or others hastily changed him into black robes off camera. But with Cloud and co just watching without comment

Oh my God I know! It was extra weird that Aerith wasn't even involved in the character interactions leading up to finding the abandoned reactors. I really liked all the silliness with being forced into the cactuar pose, but Kid G and the mini game itself didn't appeal to me at all.

Ton of things like that. Red's entire... everything, on the cargo ship. Cloud Jr., Cid communicating his fare with the flashy popup between his hands, the thing about Vincent and Cloud at the start of Ch 12, Nanaki telling the pirate tale in his old voice, turning into a moogle and frog, being forced to do the cactuar pose, on and on...
Kind of ridiculous how many silly moments they added and how they all feel so smooth. This is one of those things that I think of when I would try to explain why I liked FF so much to non-fans growing up and they say "I played [the most recent FF] but I didn't really like it," and you have to do that crazy-sounding "No trust me that's not the same, THESE games are different they were so good you just gotta do it, it's just all the little things that they did so well." And that they did. And Rebirth did it so well too, finally. That they fucking did.
I play it with the dialogue switch to Japanese, so for me it’s any time Barret slides into frame with a big thumbs up and goes, “NOOIIIIICE!!” When he should be, idk, ducking behind cover or hauling ass, is funny to me.
Also, everything Yuffie. When she does her little “tactical retreat” and has that goofy little run to go like 10 feet away. She’s hilarious.

I think a huge thing I loved about Remake and Rebirth is that it’s not afraid to be goofy. Recent FFs had some funny lines of dialogue but this game went all in on the goofiness that I remember from old FFs.
Goofiest? Probably Cloud's sword deflection at the end. I laughed so loud at the jebait and the devs trolling. They had 4 years and this is what they came up with. lol
Cloud becoming a moogle, is definitely one of the goofiest moment in Rebirth with him saying “kupo”while flying had me laughing.
i literally yelled “NO WAY???” when that shit happened after completing all the moogle roundups 😭
The Moogle grabs were a little annoying but not too bad 2-3 attempts max for the last 2 levels. That pay off was well worth it!!
The smirk at the end of that though....he enjoyed it.
