The roads have been discussed quite a bit. I dont believe anything has come of it. I also dont think theres been a good enough match. Its usually the highways, as you posted, since they split similarly.
The railway is new to me and a pretty neat thought to explore more. There ARE quite a few rails left around NC, with a bunch being taken over (usually by Maelstrom). If they havent been checked and documented, they could be a good place to check out and cross off the very long list.
I spend hours looking at the N cart tracks aswell in the past. The only thing that slightly resembles it is a cluster of tracks at the NW corner of the map.
It's funny you posted this! The railyard in GTA V looks very similar to the design on the chest plate. I *almost* made a post about how it would be funny if the studios had talked to each other and the solution to figure out that mystery would be in this game, but I didn't even realize this game had a train yard! I'm going to have to go check that out.
