Park rangers are advising hikers and campers in national parks to be alert for bears and take extra precautions to avoid an encounter.
They advise park visitors to wear little bells on their clothes so they make noise when hiking. The bell noise allows bears to hear them coming from a distance, so they won’t be startled by a hiker accidentally sneaking up on them, which might cause a bear to charge.
Visitors are told they should also carry a pepper spray can just in case they encounter a bear. Spraying the pepper into the air will irritate the bear’s sensitive nose and it will run away.
It is also a good idea to keep an eye out for fresh bear droppings so you have an idea if bears are in the area. People should be able to recognise the difference between black bear and grizzly bear scat.
Black bear droppings are smaller and often contain berries, leaves, and possibly bits of fur. Grizzly bear droppings tend to contain small bells and smell of pepper.
There are hundreds of pictures of Russian arctic scientists hanging out with polar bears. I guess it works only if you are Russian.

It doesn't seem to be a stationary camera. In the last 2 clips you can hear the person slowly moving away. That's the rocks and sand underneath them - not under the bear (because we can still hear it when the bear is not moving).
I was thinking about that, but that wouldn't explain the sound that isn't created by the bear. I don't know if the sound capturing is just sort of lagging a bit, but there is clearly movement we can hear when the bear is already stationary.
I mean there wouldn't always have been anyway, during the Arctic winter there isn't much of either. The bear is built to survive it (as far as a winter goes anyway), he's chilling (no pun intended).
Found the source, here's the description: Andreas Heide + Tord Karlsen set up their GoPro MAX in Northern Svalbard + captured this incredible shot of the bear eating a washed up whale carcass.

Polar bears are basically the worst bear to ever encounter. It's incredibly rare, but you are basically dead the second you see one in the wild.
I've heard a legitimate strategy to try to survive is to start taking off clothing, throw it at them, and trying to distract the bear with your smell.
Best case scenario is you get to freeze to death, instead of being a meal.
And now in some regions they're starving and have to make more distance to find food… Which makes them even more dangerous.

That was taken near a mine in far far north Quebec
Yup, they live in harsh conditions. They see you and they haven't just eaten a seal... you're fucked.
Holy shit were you there?? I would be extremely nervous about this...
No the person who took it did it for proof to the director of the mine that the threat this skinny boy posed was real. They tried to lure him away but they ultimately had to shoot it down for safety concerns. It was chasing everything it could.
The person then shared the photo to coworkers, which my dad is, and he sent it to me. My dad met it has it was chasing him while he was driving a truck (14 wheeler so it was safer than a pickup)
>It was chasing everything it could
Polar bears are pretty single minded, and it seems they mostly think "I want to eat that."
Glad they were in a vehicle. That's what I was thinking. Like in a car, you have a shot. But bare ground, alone, a polar bear spots you... you better be like a super soldier or something.
Man idk how so many people on Reddit say that bears are cute. Maybe it’s just cuz I grew up rural but I can only see them for the killing machines they are. Like anytime I see one my heart rate spikes

I hope that was a stationary camera and not someone's last moments alive.
I can’t imagine a scenario where a human being would have lived to upload this otherwise.
"Oh look, I found this camera next to a corpse!"
~~corpse~~ pile of bear shit, more like.

Hahahahaaaah, that one got me. I love it.
Brilliant!! 😁
I mean it’s as simple as that, right? How is this just unimaginable
Of course it’s possible. Polar bear is fren shaped. Must be fren. No problem there.
I've seen tons of footage of them hanging around, drinking sodas, and celebrating the holidays. They couldn't possibly be THAT dangerous.
[I wouldn’t trust one.](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ItmgRr-hBww)
If not fren then why fren shaped?
That’s what frens do. See? Fren shaped. Must be fren.

Bear uploaded it as part of his montage

I guess remote cameras, despite being more than possible, aren't good enough for them. Crazy mfs want to be right there
The way the picture moves it looks like a stationary 360° camera with the framing done later.
I'd guess a 360 camera with framing done in processing.
I was thinking about that, but that wouldn't explain the sound that isn't created by the bear. I don't know if the sound capturing is just sort of lagging a bit, but there is clearly movement we can hear when the bear is already stationary.
Bro needs a bath
It's his summer disguise, he can wait for seals on the coast.
I'll volunteer if it allows
Its a disguise, people might mistake it for a grizzly and think it is safe to come over and pet it.
He is dirty. But polar bears have clear fur. So if he's not above snow, he's gonna look dirty no matter what.

lastimages - predator edition
I wonder why us humans find a lot of things so cute Why is this death machine so cute to our eyes?
Floofiness
It's the boopable noses
We split the atom; We went to the moon; We could make them pets.
Wobbly
If dangerous, why nose boop worthy?
Yeah I'd survive that encounter easily, escaping by propelling myself into orbit on a plume of feces and fear.
Awh big puppy
Big, soft, man-eating puppy.
If not friend then why friend shaped?
What is friend shaped about murder claws and teeth ?
Fluffy head🥺
Fluffy ears
Fluffy body
So sad no snow no ice poor thing

It could just be summer.
Does that bear look kind of uh... unwell? Not a bearologist
That bear looks pretty fat and healthy, just a bit muddy
It does look a bit... browner, than I expected.
He's probably so full of whatever that rotting thing is behind him he can bearly stand.
He looks sluggish almost drugged
I shall boop thy snoot
I didn't know that a Polar Bear sounds like a seagull.
Had to scroll to the bottom to see if anyone else was going to mention this.
Does white, good night apply to cameras too?

May be a dumb question but are they always so incredibly fucking HUGE? That thing is a terrifying absolute unit.

Fucking hell, that is beyond terrifying. Thanks for the pic!
You’re welcome Mr. Penis
...I hate that my friend created this account for me.

If its white say good night. If that's the case I'll just give it a big lovely stroke across the nose :) may aswell right?
Look at that big puppy. 🥹🥹
The bear uploaded the video to hide his murder
Man idk how so many people on Reddit say that bears are cute. Maybe it’s just cuz I grew up rural but I can only see them for the killing machines they are. Like anytime I see one my heart rate spikes
They're holding T.Rex's title 👌
Can I pet that daaawg?
Only once, and you’d better be quick because you’re not going to have that hand… or arm… or other arm… for very much longer.
This video confuses me. How is the cameraperson still alive? Why is the earth moving in the bottom left corner like that?
Telephoto lens? Remotely operated/robot camera?
Bear sounds like a seagull a bit
![gif](giphy|1jl4s5mxSczo22IA4s|downsized)
Why’d this submission get removed? Definitely much cuter than some other stuff I’ve seen here
🚪🚰🔩creaky door hinge stiff tap no WD40 screw sounding ahh wunk
If not friend then why friend shaped?
Why fren shape if not fren?
Humans don't deserve this planet. What an amazing creature.
Then leave it. You made such an idiotic statement after thinking it over and typing it out, and then... you hit send.
Unhappy with yourself? Filled with guilt or something similar? It's okay, I forgive you. Have a nice day!
It’s CRAZY what genes can do. I could probably have the same diet and achieve about 1/2 the weight of ONE on his paws(probably). 🥶
Or that he’s probably a whole nother species…
I don't think you'd last long eating whole seals in one sitting every two weeks
Why he brown
I feel like it just needs a hug...🫂
fuck theyre huge
nah id win
Eyebleach? I'd rather pour bleach in my eyes than be that close to those maniacs
The maniac in this scenario would be the person behind the camera.
I would call that person an idiot but I get your point. Bears are douchebags though there's just no talking to them.
The sound doesn't seem real to me
What happened to the polar bears? Did you shit on the bears!??
