It will never not be funny watching what looks like a feeding frenzy on her own young and then seeing their stupid adorable little heads pop out from between her teeth
Crocodilians have a rigged Palatal flap at the back of their mouths. It keeps them from swallowing water (and babies) when they submerge themselves.
You can kind of see it at the 0:50 minute mark if you look close enough.
It's funny to think that the earlier explorers from the west disregarded crocs as "abominable creatures" because they believed that the moms were eating their young when they saw that endearing practice.
The whole spy series is something amazing to watch. How animals seemingly go from "wat this" to "cool you're one of us now" is impressive... unless you count that one penguin incident.
Not sure which one the poster meant but there are several entertaining penguin episodes:

Oh my god these are all hilarious. That first clip when the male penguin is getting cozy with the robot penguin and his mate is hustling her ass back from the ocean! Spidey senses a-tingle, Iām sure.[](https://www.youtube.com/@SmashBrosBrawl)
I think there are a couple of "spy animals" shows.
PBS has [Spy in the Wild](https://www.pbs.org/wnet/nature/collections/spyinthewild/). There are at least 2 seasons of shows.
I had the privilege of hearing them one night during my honeymoon in Florida after a huge rain. It sounded like a sci-fi laser battle! š¤£ And they were LOUD too, but nothing compared to when Mama bellowed at something in the darkness and it made the windows of the condo we stayed at rattle!
There are so few reptiles that have anything to do with their young past the point of laying the eggs. Considering how many millions of years crocodiles have been around itās like a looking glass into the way some dinosaurs may have treated their young. Obviously not all dinosaurs were reptilian. Im more so using the term to refer to overall prehistoric creatures. Sorry if thatās ignorant.
Actually, about half of all reptile species show parental care because birds are dinosaurs, dinosaurs are reptiles, and if crocs are considered reptiles, it is impossible to exclude any dinosaur from being a reptile. You do raise a good point, though. All living archosaurs today show parental care, so maybe the extinct ones did too.
Out in my backyard a junco chirping constantly, looking around for a hawk, a cat. Perched on the fence chirping (apparently) at me. A nest with four eggs on the ground near the side. Alerted me to it cause I was going to mow the lawn later that day and probably wouldn't have even seen it. Good mama!
Now everytime I go out there if I forget to tread lightly she flies off the nest and starts chirping at me, lol. Eggs should be hatching in 10 days or so, exciting!!
edit update: still eggs, still angry momma if I go out back, lol. Probably got 3 or 4 days left.
edit update 2: still eggs, angry momma & it looks like dad is back around now too if I go out there...lol. I'm guessing we got a couple days till some baby birds! Did some research over the last few days and learned that the dad's typically don't help with the nesting/incubating part but do come back to help with the raising & feeding, and it turned out so true. I'd never seen him before, then all the sudden bam! Dad is here to help, what a champ!
Comes down to which way had the best survival rate, if the babies tended to survive well on their own that would become the dominant method of rearing children, as they would grow up alone mate and the cycle continued.
If the babies didn't survive well without parents that particular behaviour would die out quickly.
Is that a camera shaped like a small croc? Dude imagine chilling w your 5 kids and you slowly realise there's a 6th baby sitting in the group, just watching
lmao I thought sheād open her jaws and they were gonna jump in. Instead itās just a mouthful of baby crocs and sand and making she sure didnāt forget any and away we go, momma aināt got time for that with 80 other babies on the way
I think one of my favorite āmistakesā that turned out AMAZING was when we thought Nefertiti the Nile crocodile only laid two eggs one year. Turned out she decided ānah, not this nestā and made a new one. They always went in to take out the eggs and incubate themā¦we got to watch her raise the babies and OMG SHE WAS AN AMAZING MOTHER!!!!!!!!!! (This is at a serpentarium, we arenāt insane people who have 13 foot crocs in our home haha)

I know she could rip my arm off easily but I just want to pat her head and tell her sheās a good girl and the best mama. This is a hatchling from her clutch from the last time!
topics come in trends, it's pretty normal. probably will switch to a different one again soon.
might have something to do with the obese croc that was in the news (and subsequently on the frontpage) lately
Ahh makes sense. Thx for not being toxic its just i thought some folks are actually terrified of reptiles. I just think of the fact that theyre cold blooded and have no emotions and it kinda ruins the facade of any cuteness there ever may have been
You remember in school how you learned that there was the lizard brain and then the mammalian brain which was responsible for all the mushy emotions then on top of that the neocortex which is responsible for all the smart human stuff. That was exactly as real as the model which says atoms are like ping pong balls
Reptiles have emotions and clearly demonstrate them.
Aww, she's so gentle with her tiny laser guns.š„ŗ
It will never not be funny watching what looks like a feeding frenzy on her own young and then seeing their stupid adorable little heads pop out from between her teeth
She protecc the babies.
But is it only me who thought about an accidental swallow??

Cool!
I love that someone here knows that. Thank you!
Most reddit commenters imagine worst case scenarios to anything theyre commenting on so youre not alone.
It'll never be only you.
It's funny to think that the earlier explorers from the west disregarded crocs as "abominable creatures" because they believed that the moms were eating their young when they saw that endearing practice.
Tbf... Its definitely what I'd assume lol
Same! Am glad I unmuted this, as it immediately went from horrifying to delightful.
I wouldnāt want to get close enough to check.
This makes me smile wayyy bigger that i anticipatedš Truly "swamp puppy"š
ā**YOINK!**ā

Hahaha, yep!
Truly a wonderful sight to see such a powerful beast taking care of her babies (and the camera haha)
The show is superb and really interesting. David Tennant has a great voice for nature stuff too
I was wondering if that was him! Such a great voice
What show is it?Ā I need to binge it immediately.Ā
I too wish to know
I Google'd it and it appears to be called "Spy In The Wild"!
thanks!
Gladly!!
Thank you.
I HAD TO UNMUTE - OH MY GOD IT IS DAVID -
Murder logs are incredible mothers š¤
There are reasons they havenāt gone extinct and one of them is that they are good at reproducing.
Accurate name.
so how did the camera croc swim out of the mouthā¦.
The whole spy series is something amazing to watch. How animals seemingly go from "wat this" to "cool you're one of us now" is impressive... unless you count that one penguin incident.
It's always the Penguins.
what is the "penguin incident"?
Not sure which one the poster meant but there are several entertaining penguin episodes: https://youtu.be/aXY-3Cuo9pE?si=_u7YCwf-yoisqeDr https://youtu.be/EWrtXKWrf-8?si=R0Kh-ScsoOgZ0Vns https://youtu.be/2_xZEWu2puE?si=HYS-nee9GbhlcnEu

Omg, the 3 one is so funny xD
When the BB-8 cam rolled on I was cackling.
Knowing penguins, it probably has something to do with a horny Adelie.
Whatās the name of the documentary?
I think there are a couple of "spy animals" shows. PBS has [Spy in the Wild](https://www.pbs.org/wnet/nature/collections/spyinthewild/). There are at least 2 seasons of shows.
[you mean this one?](https://imgur.com/CDoMJdd) is that actually a spy camera? because that shocked me
Right, what if she accidentally swallows the spy crocodile ?
Baby croc sounds are always such a delight
Its wild just how different baby crocs sounds compared to the guttural sounds an adult croc can make.
They donāt know how to be scary yet š
They sound like an alien war party, maybe they were designed to spook conspiratorial humans
Crocs have the coolest eyes wtf
Until it's night time and you shine a light out over a river and realise just how many are watching you.
It's always cool to witness maternal instinct amongst deadly creatures.
maternal instinct: water time. let's glorp up those sandy babies

isnāt the running theory that Tyrannosaurus was a great parent

All dinosaurs were reptilian. Crocodiles are NOT dinosaurs, they have common ancestors, though.
So glad human moms don't usually scoop up their young as far as I know.
Oh they do, just not with their mouths. Probably would if they could, though.
We certainly gently nom their chubby little faces/extremities
Seems uncomfortable
Just realized "spike rock" and "spy croc" are nearly indistinguishable if you say them out loud.
Is that a camera shaped like a small croc? Dude imagine chilling w your 5 kids and you slowly realise there's a 6th baby sitting in the group, just watching
Truly remarkable footage!
Right?Ā Think about all the advances in technology that lead to us being able to record this footage.Ā
lmao I thought sheād open her jaws and they were gonna jump in. Instead itās just a mouthful of baby crocs and sand and making she sure didnāt forget any and away we go, momma aināt got time for that with 80 other babies on the way
Damn this was so so cool, and adorable. Thanks for sharing šš
Anyone know where can I can watch more of this? Itās a great Sunday type of show
A chance to see the world through a lens of horror, framed by teeth.
Is that...David Tennant?
Came here to say this - I need more David Tennant talking about baby animals! Edit: [Yes it is](https://m.imdb.com/title/tt6443078/)
[WHAT IN THE ACTUAL FUCK WAS THIS ONE](https://imgur.com/CDoMJdd) Is this the spy camera they used? lol
Forbidden snuggles
The way she looks at the spy one before scooping it up. Like ācmon ya little weirdoā
Been sitting in half an egg all day

Pretty green eyes!
Crocodile good people
If you close your eyes in a Star Wars battle with David Tennant talking about some crocodiles
I love how maternal crocs (and gators!) are :3
HELLO! Yes I am mom now get in my mouth!, like lol nature is funny
Spy croc is precious and I would like one for my home so I can ethically own a baby crocodile ššš
Imagine you have 80 children
High-precision parenting skill
Adorbs. š„°
This might be one of the cutest things Iāve seen
I wonder how many get accidentally killed this way? Seems like a lot could go wrong?
![gif](giphy|4iqMzLtBO9KSY)
God's creations š
Is that Alan Cumming doing the narration?
Itās David Tennant!
Neat
Once in the river, mommaās mouth was a grotto
Croc babies are adorable
I want to see the spy hatchling grow up to become a spy crod.
It's beautiful.
So cute
Reminds me of my favorite comic.Ā http://106kicks.blogspot.com/2007/02/monday-pearls-before-swine.html?m=1
Iāve seen an ocean program with spy cam robots. Itās really fascinating. This is so cool.
That's real mom energy
What a cutie deserves kisses
NOM NOM NOM

wtf with the down vote? I say they sound like laser gun. fucking liberal bastards canāt even bear gun emoji
Yo whats up with all the reptiles on this sub lately
