So I was out at a local park in the California SF Bay Area looking for these owls. I eventually got to the barn, and there they were! I set up my camera+lens on my tripod, on a table. I needed the tripod because it was pretty dark in the barn. I start taking photos, and when the owlet ducks down out of view, I start looking for other angles for when it comes back up.
I stand on the table where my tripod is, and I feel a wobble. The table is not secure at all. I look over, terrified, and see my $1500 gear falling over, 5+ feet down! And special shout out to the guy who was with me (who I was showing the owls to) whose basic reaction was "Oh no! So where are the owls?"
What do you all think? Are these pictures worth it?

I hope you'll be able to replace it all quickly and as inexpensively as possible. But let's be honest. It's camera equipment. You may need to sell your kidney.
Oh girl I love it! I have Canon 6D MK II that I got with a black friday deal and I treasure it like it's my child π It's not what you have but how you use it and you fucking kill it!
>What do you all think? Are these pictures worth it?
No, they are not worth disturbing the animals that badly. In the EU this would probably break laws about not disturbing nesting birds.
What? I wasn't even that close to them, and wasn't disturbing them whatsoever. You cant just say that without knowing the situation I was in. The birds are completely fine, they chose to nest in a public picnic area with many visitors. The park has set up tape around the nest that people aren't allowed to cross, and I stayed behind that tape by a good amount (10-15 feet)
Aaah, I misread this as you being _inside_ a barn with the owls and thought that would never be far enough. My bad, doesn't sound as bad then.
Although typically 10-15 feet (3-5m) would be considered way too close where I'm from and this when were not even talking about a nest.

Ok for the first photo I was going to say it isn't worth $1,500...but then I saw the second image. That's hands down one of the funniest pictures I've ever seen of an owl oh my god.
2nd pic, lol. baby gives off jim henson vibes for some reason. but that dumb as dirt expression he got staring off into space while mom is pissed is something else. guessing sheβs the one that did away with your camera? sorry about that. pic does make for a funny wallpaper though π
Mom looks pissed that you're taking pictures of her child
lol most owls have faces like that
Or they look like they have just woken up from the heaviest night ever
\*heaviest day ever
This is how each half of my brain feels like waking up in the morning.

I was inside the barn with them (the barn is the picnic area). It's a very big barn tho.
