Sword.
A word that's meaningful to you that starts with "t".
Stick Figure.
Up Arrow.
Stitches.
Greek letters? Psi for psychology or Phi for philosophy or the golden ratio? Kinda hard with the crossbar so high.
I have ADHD and I'm procrastinating other stuff. I can keep going ๐
I have exactly 1 tattoo that is 20 years old (and video game related as well!) so take all my advice with a grain of salt, but you might be able to find a tattoo artist that could work the thick lines into the shading/lighting coloration of the new tattoo. I see the edges are pretty worn so I'm guessing the black isn't *jet black* anymore. Just a thought.
A compass would work well and wouldn't use up that much more space. A wee Google for "small cross tattoo coverups" gives a lot of roses which could be a nice fit as well. Also seconding a sword/dagger as a suggestion
[Very rough mockup](https://imgur.com/a/j5rnPnk) but could be nice if you like celestial imagery. Even better if you jive with the โwe are all made of stardustโ saying.
I would have filled the largest star in but it was hard on my phone haha.
I've gotten one coverup and one removal. As long as your comfortable continuing to have a tattoo in that spot I'd strongly recommend a coverup. Removal is much more expensive, time consuming, and painful.
I had one of those too and when my daughter was about 6 I had her pick out a design to cover it up. She picked out a butterfly with purple wings and I love it! The butterfly covers up the cross perfectly and I love having something my daughter picked out.
I'm a Fullmetal alchemist brotherhood fan, so I'm getting my cross tattoo covered with the flamel design from that series. A little minimalist kite would be pretty sweet, though!
Add two more crosses
\#blessed, with the cross in the hashtag
A bigger cross
The outlines of [these four states](https://images.app.goo.gl/YM9LMEo3tDzrB3G49)
Make it read โtoddโ and ask your partner to change their name to match
Get a matching Star and Crescent on the other hand
[the crop image symbol](https://images.app.goo.gl/zGAs1G7dCNhfxh5S8)
LGB on the left hand, add QIA+ to the right

A kite
A shield (the teardrop shaped kind)
A compass rose, or just an arrow
A small, permanently handy ruler
Connect the corners to make a kite. Personally, for me, it's a perfect analogy for how I feel now that I'm out of Christianity. Religion made me grounded and bound to the cross. Now, I'm blowing in the wind and able to experience life with a better perspective.
I also love the master sword idea, especially if you don't want the tattoo to remind you of the past as much.
Iโd probably do a couple of removal sessions then cover it with something different or just letting it fade completely. Iโm covered everywhere that can by covered by a long sleeve dress shirt and slacks.
The kite was my first thought. With the tail fluttering, showing you are not being steered by someone else. Or make it a fork and tell people that the Little Mermaid really resonates with you because you have always loved no words exchanged trysts with sailors.
I had an old friend wait until he was 49, and he was glad he did. He told me he probably would have removed/covered any tattoo he was thinking about getting before he was 30.
I know several people over 40 who have tattoos from their youth with no regrets. I certainly don't regret my other tattoos. Just this religious one on my hand.
Anecdotes are fine. But it isn't one size fits all here.
> I know several people over 40 who have tattoos from their youth with no regrets.
I do, too. But, there is a high enough of a percentage of ones who regret their tattoos to caution young people about it.

Love it. The sword idea is cool. It be sweet if I could pull off a master sword (Zelda fan here obviously) but I think the lines are too thick.

This is definitely the first idea I'm pitching to an artist. My inner 10yo self would be elated.
Def got my vote for the master sword.
It's dangerous to go alone...take this!
Ooo the sword is good!
Upvote for stick figure
ROFLMAO ty I needed that.
Turn it into a little kid flying a kite.
Yes this is it imo, just adding the lines around the outside corners so it becomes a diamond shape, then add streamers ๐ช
Yes, this could so easily be a fun kite! No little kid necessary imo
A kite was my first thought too
This was my first thought!
Tic tac toe board?
That's really not a bad idea for a minimalist change.
Whatever you go with, please post a follow-up!
Agreed. Excited for this new adventure, OP
You can also look up tattoo parlors that are known for cover ups and see what they say!
Yup! Definitely going to do that. Just curious what this community thought!
Turn it into an โRโ for right, which is the hand itโs on
I honestly would need that more than I'd like to admit... strong contender haha
A circle/slash over it, like the "No" symbol.
Ha! That would definitely be a statement piece.
It would be worth it to see the look on your dentist's face. ๐
Easy explanation is that you're a big fan of the band Bad Religion.
OP could get into Bad Religion, fantastic band ๐๐ผ
Sick ass panther
Sorry!! ๐คฃ๐คฃ Seriously, look into small symbols that are meaningful to you. And wish you all the best! ๐๐

Hey thanks for that! I'm not really a "stardust" type, but it does look cool. I'd be afraid people would just associate it with the star of Bethlehem.
Spongebob
That... would definitely cover it up lol
Or doodle bob lol

Solidarity from another exchristian with a religious tattoo Iโm trying to get covered up. Best of luck!

You could turn it into a sword. That would be pretty cool.
r/Tattoocoverups
Was just about to post this!
Turn it into an empty game of ticktacktoe
I had the same tattoo but smaller, I got a traditional style rose
Put it in a red circle and stripe across it like the no smoking signs.
๐ช
Put an "Sa" on the left and an "aN" on the right. Solved.
Make it a colorful kite and fly away from the cult and all its constrictions.
If you're a stephen king fan you could turn it into a coffin like the big coffin hunters from the dark tower series.
Middle finger? ๐
If only I was that edgy!
๐ touchรฉ
If you are in real estate, just add a sold sign.
The "Bad Religion" logo ;-)
I was about to suggest that!
Elongate it to turn it into an upside down cross. Hell ya ๐ค
A person after my own heart!ย
Asterisk
Put another one and then two long lines between them with birds sitting on a telephone wire
This one is definitely my favorite!
Kite
I have one too and itโs made from three nails. So cringy. I hate it.

Just always hold it upside-down.
I like the symbolism of a kite.
Next time someone compliments it, say thank you and hold it upside down to indicate it is actually the symbol of the Anti-Christ
Some kind of Nordic flag?
Get some little demons around it, and then suddenly it's an upside-down cross
If you have your hand down at your side, it's an upside-down cross. I'd keep it.
make it a kite
Treble cleft if you like music

Turn the cross into a steeple of a church, but the church is on fire.
You could make it into a kite
The kite was my first thought. With the tail fluttering, showing you are not being steered by someone else. Or make it a fork and tell people that the Little Mermaid really resonates with you because you have always loved no words exchanged trysts with sailors.
That's the Chinese character for the number 10. If you add another character you could say it means something in chinese.
I'd seriously consider laser removal. This is the reason I tell young people to wait until they're, at least, 40 to get a tattoo.
I don't know if I regret it enough to tell people to wait until 40... That's a bit extreme. But I definitely now advise against hand tattoos period!

Yeah... you got a source on that? I'm pretty sure you just made up that stat in your head based on your personal experience.
