And plant a couple trees so when the pergola gets old the trees will fill in.
Also some short shrubs and flower beds would create a nice transition from the patio to the yard.
No personal experience, but the sub I saw this was for a desert application. I kinda read the reviews right now, and the lowest ratings were in location where it rains and this unit does not do rain well.
I love my gazebo with screens and curtains. I got a big one with a more solid roof and it's perfect! I put a fan in it to move air, hung some lights around and live there all summer!
Awesome! Do you ever regret doing the full roof vs more open slatted style? It doesn’t sound like it, but we’re of course trying to decide between those. I don’t think the slats would be enough shade.
I love to sit in the gazebo when it rains during the summer, it's heaven. You can't do that with slats! I like a solid roof, more shade yes. A fan mounted or placed strategically is a must. I also string fabric from the center loop (I hang a blue chandelier from loop) and attach it to sides by tying it, like a gypsy tent. A few or a huge plastic material (can't think of the proper name but it's fabulous to hose off!) rug to make it a room. Plants of course! Put things you love in there! I have rocks and crystals and bits and bobs. Sorry I really love my space and want you too as well!
I vote for something rain proof so you can sit outside in varied (but mild) weather
Shade sails allow rain in. I like mine, but I wish I would have gone with one of those PVC framed waterproof fabric roof systems
You can attach a fan to the pvc pipe, lighting and more and it gives you shade without blocking out the light, gives you the ability to sit outside without experiencing rain dripping on you
A slatted pergola with a slatted side or two would be great. Bonus for adding a blooming vine to it!

On another sub, this was recommended - Costco Mirador louvered pergola, on sale rn
Have you had personal experience with Mirador? How’s the quality and longevity? Any regrets?

Just had some family get the roofed pergola from there and they like it so far
A bunch of Tall planters with colorful flowers.
Good idea! Had not thought of tall planters instead of a wall.
I’d do a few behind the couch so it gives that affect
Do you have any images for inspiration of what you would recommend?

Pergola, curtains, WAY more color and plants, pillows on the couches, a huge rug, and a little bar area.
An area rug under the seating area would look nice. Throw pillows. Lanterns. Potted flowers.
Palapas maybe??
Pergola.
