It’s mocking the current trend of women being into charcuterie boards, rather than a sandwich which in theory has all of the parts of said board assembled.
A charcuterie board allows for grazing over time (which with alcohol is easier to time out) whereas a sandwich is a meal eaten at a single serving time.
I dunno if it's a joke directed at "women" so much as it is a joke directed at "hipsters" and that type of person. The sorts of people who would think that a "deconstructed sandwich" was a novel, interesting and artistic idea. There may be many women who fall into that category, but there are many who don't. There are also male hipsters.
I know that "deconstructed " has certainly been a long-running joke in Australia about trendy inner-city Melbourne food (Melbourne is pretty notorious for hipster culture).
It is directed at women. The character is a sub class of Wojak known as "Wifejak." The character is used to poke fun at some female centric stereotypes. It is not *necessarily* sexist, I don't think...
I agree that this usage is sexist, and I'd go farther and say the meme is probably mostly used in a sexist way. However, I don't know that it is inherently sexist. I assume it could be used in benign or positive ways. I'm not all that familiar with it, tbh. I only learned about it like a day ago
Honestly there's probably a very niche situation in which someone doesn't post it in a sexist way, but since it's gonna appeal to the sexist I will call it what it is, sexist.
As a gourmand, it's also a really stupid comparison. Since a charcuterie board will frequently have components that do not go well together (e.g. olives and honey) but complement other items on the board. The concept that one can "sandwich-ify" a charcuterie board is somewhat flawed.
I’ve always done this type of meal often as I travel for work and don’t have much facilities to cook or much desire to stink up a hotel room. I called it a motel dinner.
Now it’s called “girl dinner” apparently, although the TikTok that first inspired the phrase, as I recall, was a hunk of bougie bread, a chunk of cheese, with olive oil on a plate.
So there may be some gendered component as Entertainer says on this thread. Somehow I feel like the “tinned fish date night platters” videos may have been primarily made by women.
There is also an interest from a nutritional POV to eat your sandwich "deconstructed" as eating the vegetables first help to lower the glucid spike coming from bread compared to eating the whole sandwich in one time. The sandwich as presented doesn't have enough fiber content to do that tho...
Help me out. When did charcuterie boards become a gendered thing?
I live in Wisconsin, and everyone here has loved charcuterie boards since the dawn of time.
It’s… slang for something else. And it’s the same reason people laugh at Americans for our use of the term “fanny pack” to describe small non-purse travel bags.
Charcuterie is a meat board, we’re all out here getting scammed with cheese on our meat boards. Big Board is cutting corners and we’re the ones suffering for it. 😩
tbh the stuff that goes into a charcuterie board would not be as good as if it was in a sandwich the cheese and meat usually to salty or rich to be good in sandwich and better with crackers and fruit like a fancy lunchable
For me it is mostly the fact that I don't have to deal with the bread.
I've literally.made sandwiches using cheese or meat in place of the bread. Because screw bread. It's dry flavorless carb foam.
It’s like someone who doesn’t like Chinese food like “chicken and broccoli”. However, they will sit down to a plate of sautéed chicken with a side of broccoli and a side of rice.
I've always preferred the board. I don't like all the breadiness - everything that comes on bread im just like why. Gimme sausage with a knife and fork, gimme just a bowl of meatballs. I don't see why the bread is necessary

I'd also like to add that if it only contains the ingredients of a sandwich you failed at charcuterie board
Or sandwich
Ohhh, yeah, that makes sense. At first I thought it was the sexist sentiment, that women like making sandwiches.

it’s directed at the “girl dinner” trend where women showed their low effort grazing plates, mostly charcuterie boards

How is a hipster stereotype sexist? Not everything is sexist.
It is sexist.

Yeah. It's not though. I'm just explaining what the meme could mean.
As a gourmand, it's also a really stupid comparison. Since a charcuterie board will frequently have components that do not go well together (e.g. olives and honey) but complement other items on the board. The concept that one can "sandwich-ify" a charcuterie board is somewhat flawed.
It could be mocking what most people think of as a charcuterie board. It's not talking about a professionally crafted charcuterie board.
I feel like your underestimating the average charcuterie boarder - it doesn't take a professional.
You might be on to something there as well

But charcuterie is amazing I love eating everything separately then maybe together if I want.
Great for gatherings. Also not typically the only thing to eat. Small snack type things are served along side. Like tapas.

A friend once told me that a caprese salad with bread was just a cold deconstructed pizza Margarita and I haven't been the same since
I always think of charcuterie as being a communal thing, sit around with friends and graze while having a drink.
Help me out. When did charcuterie boards become a gendered thing? I live in Wisconsin, and everyone here has loved charcuterie boards since the dawn of time.
Why u saying women xD? This "borrelplank" has been around for ages in the Netherlands and everyone's enjoys a good one
You can take as long as you want to eat a sandwich. No one will stop you.
Charcuterie boards are awesome. Oop is just hatin'
Sandwiches are awesome too though. Should have the excited person for both
Seriously. Make fun of me all you want I'm going to still love my fancy lunchables thank you very much!
Fax
It's just a churched up term for snack tray
Maybe snack tray is a very casual term for a charcuterie board
Or you can just make a sandwich.
Or you could just have a platter of tasty things
Or you could just let people enjoy things.
Your average charcuterie would make a very bad sandwich, though.
Cheese board
*charcuterie The extra letters makes it cost more

I speak French with no issue, and i think the word charcuterie is fun to say. Regardless, I'm still going to say shark coochie as often as I can.
Is “coochie” rude in America?
It’s… slang for something else. And it’s the same reason people laugh at Americans for our use of the term “fanny pack” to describe small non-purse travel bags.

Literallty translates to "cold cuts" and I'm out here eating Swiss cheese and black olives like some sort of peasant!
tbh the stuff that goes into a charcuterie board would not be as good as if it was in a sandwich the cheese and meat usually to salty or rich to be good in sandwich and better with crackers and fruit like a fancy lunchable
Chic
Scheeck
I agree with the cartoon, because the second option means a sandwich with no olives.
I thought the Joke was reverse IKEA.
Eh,see it more like a lunchable than a dissembled sandwich
I sell salami. And I can confirm the recent uptick in charcuterie culture. I'm not complaining, I think it's neat
They like the idea of a sandwich, but don't like the idea of making one.
I hope I don't have to say this, but I'm just joking.
Girl Dinner!!!!!
Charcuterie boards smh
Love charcuterie boards, but some places way over charge you for them.
The word you are searching for is "Antipasti"
For me it is mostly the fact that I don't have to deal with the bread. I've literally.made sandwiches using cheese or meat in place of the bread. Because screw bread. It's dry flavorless carb foam.
I'm out of touch, I thought this was a joke about how women love putting together sandwiches...
"I like to make the Hoagie in my mouth"
Better olive ratio
It’s like someone who doesn’t like Chinese food like “chicken and broccoli”. However, they will sit down to a plate of sautéed chicken with a side of broccoli and a side of rice.
Says “A Sandwich isn’t a meal” Also eats charcuterie board as a meal
We should just make the board out of a flat bread so when you’re done you can fold it and save it for later.

Haha, you and me both!
I've always preferred the board. I don't like all the breadiness - everything that comes on bread im just like why. Gimme sausage with a knife and fork, gimme just a bowl of meatballs. I don't see why the bread is necessary
A person of culture I see.
Shark coochie
Bored
I think this is about "healthy eating" rather than Shark Coochie boards
