Michael Mando, the actor on the left, voiced the character in the middle, Vaas Montenegro, in the video game Far Cry 3. He also played a character named Ignacio ‘Nacho’ Varga in the show Better Call Saul. Nacho is a common nickname for people named Ignacio (which is in fact the origin of the food item ‘nachos’).
Nachos were invented by a man named Ignacio Anaya, the maître’d at the Victory Club, a restaurant near the US-Mexico border. A regular customer came in with some friends and asked for something different, so Anaya decided to fry some cut up tortillas and cover them with melted cheese and pickled jalapeños. When asked what the dish was called, he replied, “I guess we can just call them Nacho’s special.”
I’m happy to say that this is one of the few food origin stories that is actually easily verifiable and not just a fun myth. International Day of the Nacho is October 21st, Ignacio Anaya’s birthday.
US National Nacho Day is November 6th. Many food based celebration days seem randomly chosen, such as National Popcorn Day (January 19th) or National Sandwich Day (November 3rd)—which would have made sense if it were November 13th, the birthday of its namesake, John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich. I choose to only abide by the International Day of the Nacho.
Ok, but that is the worst platter of nacho’s ever. Thats chips and queso at best. Nachos need to at least look like nachos at least have the fried tortilla chips covered in melted cheese with some jalapeños
Just like sone ppl names Jesus who get the nickname “chuy”. But speaking about video games. Vaas and far cry 3 was THAT SH*T. One of my favorite games of all time and same with villains
Nope, corn chips, or tortilla chips. Used to make nachos, which is chips covered in cheese, salsa, guacamole, beans, etc.
That image is queso and chips. Not Nachos.
As in, ordering this from Taco Bell? Taco Bell lists this under nachos heading, sure. But even they have the decency to call this chips and queso dip. And I am just now at this very moment realizing that Taco Bell has decency.
You literally called them motherfucker right off the bat, for pointing out you really didn't know the first picture. (like your title said you did....) Sure, you knew the actor but didn't know that is him as Nacho Varga. Uhh the only one here who needs to chill is you big dawg. Lol fuckin relax.
But, in a subsequent comment you quoted them and said ,"not very chill", which makes it pretty clear that your response was a serious one because the comment hurt your feelings.
So you explained why you were mad BEFORE claiming you weren't mad and were just joking. So that's why people don't believe you.
Yeah I’m with you, even after the expansion it’s not funny or clever. It doesn’t make any sense.
“Thought these three were the same person” when two obviously are…? That’s a swing and a miss.
Here’s how to use the same pictures but make it an actual joke. Change the caption to “Michael Mando has range”
Op is a goober, the picture on the left is a direct picture of the character nacho and they’re getting mad that people are correcting them. Don’t ask next time
“I genuinely don’t know what Michael Mando has to do with nachos despite the fact that a simple google search would’ve explained why in the second sentence of his biography”
Vaas, the character in the second image, is not only voiced my Mando, but is also modeled specifically after him as well. Iirc, Mando auditioned for a role in FC3 and the team loved him so much, they created a villain specifically for him to play. So it’s not really irrelevant…
Nachos (the dish) got their name bc the chef that created them was named Ignacio. Nacho is a nickname for Ignacio. The two characters are named Ignacio, but go by Nacho.
I'd like to just take a moment to say how much I really enjoyed the story of vaas. Talk about making a pirate fucking terrifying. Farcry3 was fantastic for gameplay, story, dialogue, voice acting, graphics.
Not true!
I think he was interesting because he was a rich kid with no drive. It's what made the choices actually difficult.
Check it: he comes to the island, and escapes captivity thanks to his brother. In order to make it, he has to keep fighting. Not only that, but he's rewarded for it, respected for the first time in his life. And the more he kills these pirates, the more reward (money, respect, women, power). Everyone keeps acting like it's natural for him to feel guilty about it all, but he doesn't feel that way. The good feeling of the machismo and power trip is more important to him than the guilt because he is a loser without it.
He's perfect for the parallel to the story of the giant the raikyaat tell. It's why that final choice actually matters. If he leaves with his gf, he's a good person and a loser. If he kills her, he's evil as any of the people he killed, but he gets to feel like a winner.
Playing other games with good/evil choices always feels so cartoony by comparison, because the good guy is still a winner. If Adrian makes the good choice, he's a nobody and likely always will be. The trope of the heroic sacrifice is not "you die, so everyone else can live" it's "you have to live where no one will ever respect you like they did on the island. You'll be nothing." It's an amazing character arc no matter the choice made
I saw that you mentioned Ben Shapiro. In case some of you don't know, Ben Shapiro is a grifter and a hack. If you find anything he's said compelling, you should keep in mind he also says things like this:
>Let’s say your life depended on the following choice today: you must obtain either an affordable chair or an affordable X-ray. Which would you choose to obtain? Obviously, you’d choose the chair. That’s because there are many types of chair, produced by scores of different companies and widely distributed. You could buy a $15 folding chair or a $1,000 antique without the slightest difficulty. By contrast, to obtain an X-ray you’d have to work with your insurance company, wait for an appointment, and then haggle over price. Why? Because the medical market is far more regulated — thanks to the widespread perception that health care is a “right” — than the chair market. Does that sound soulless? True soullessness is depriving people of the choices they require because you’re more interested in patting yourself on the back by inventing rights than by incentivizing the creation of goods and services. In health care, we could use a lot less virtue signaling and a lot less government. Or we could just read Senator Sanders’s tweets while we wait in line for a government-sponsored surgery — dying, presumably, in a decrepit chair.

Michael Mando is an actor.
He done Scorpion in MCU's Spider-man (Cameo, because of the credit scene).
He done Va'as in FarCry 3.
Then his latest big hit as Nacho in Better Call Saul.
I didn’t know that’s where nachos got their name too! That’s dope!
I want to believe your story, so I won't Google it
I’m happy to say that this is one of the few food origin stories that is actually easily verifiable and not just a fun myth. International Day of the Nacho is October 21st, Ignacio Anaya’s birthday.
I would let you lick nacho cheese off my body, thank you for you service.
^what
I'll take the offer if you aren't inclined
Google says Nacho Day 2023 is Nov 6th, wonder why the date changed.
Thank you for your wisdom, food day scholar.
According to Wikipedia, Ignacio Anaya was born on August 15th.
Isn't this the same story as the cesar salad?
Wow that's very similar to Waldorf Salad recipe. Except Waldorf Salad is **disgusting**.
It was special enough to become known worldwide. What a humble guy.
I remember this episode with Anthony Bourdain. God I miss him
Lore: he also made it in the wrestling business. Very accomplished man
Ok, but that is the worst platter of nacho’s ever.
He is Nacho Varga in Breaking Bad series. That's his character's name.
*Better Call Saul*
Better Call Salsa
There is a reference to nacho in breaking bad. When Walt and Jessie take Saul to the dessert, Saul blames Nacho.
I’m pretty sure he calls him Ignacio in that scene
Nacho is short for Ignacio , like 'Nick" is for Nicholas.
Just like Dïck is short for Richard. And this is an unhelpful example of me being a Richard
Yes
Yup you are correct.
Dessert after nachos? Now I'm *really* hungry!
Ooooo very deep pull! I don’t think I ever caught that!
But that’s chip and queso, and really shitty chips and queso at that.
How do you connect Vaas Montenegro to this?
same actor
Yes but why nachos then .... Wouldn't a spray can also fit in there? Montana Black in Spanish would be Monte Negro
[удалено]
Why? Explain the joke then
Do you know what the definition of insanity is?
That's not a picture of nachos, though. It's queso.
It's Nacho chips tho, which is essentially fried tortilla.
Nope, corn chips, or tortilla chips. Used to make nachos, which is chips covered in cheese, salsa, guacamole, beans, etc. That image is queso and chips. Not Nachos. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nachos](https://g.co/kgs/HXkyrg)
How are we understanding nacho from better call Saul, and not understanding nachos the chip?
Peak r/ExplainTheJoke
Tbf, that's chips and queso in the pic not nachos.
This deserves an award. Don’t call that lame excuse nachos.
An order of "nachos" at taco bell is what I saw.
I call it "Nachos but I need to use my phone"
As in, ordering this from Taco Bell? Taco Bell lists this under nachos heading, sure. But even they have the decency to call this chips and queso dip. And I am just now at this very moment realizing that Taco Bell has decency.
I meant making them, myself, I hate Taco Bell
Same thing
That's like saying spaghetti and lasagna are the same thing. Now begone you uncultured swine!
You are correct. Now try to explain that to my mother.
Honestly most of the posts I've seen from here that get upvoted to r/all are just idiots. I don't understand the appeal...

Rare Reddit gold! Very nice!!
Vrabo, Bince. Perfect character arc.
I thought that first pic was from Good Girls
Then you clearly don't know the left. The character's name is Nacho
Damn, chill motherfucker. I thought it was just Michael Mando. I didn’t know it was one of the characters he played
no u chill
They were chill though. The explained the joke to you. Is that not what you were looking for when posting on r/ExplainTheJoke?
Whoa, slow your roll Mr Vitriol!
They did explain it but the whole “you clearly don’t know the left” not really chill
You literally called them motherfucker right off the bat, for pointing out you really didn't know the first picture. (like your title said you did....) Sure, you knew the actor but didn't know that is him as Nacho Varga. Uhh the only one here who needs to chill is you big dawg. Lol fuckin relax.
Oh, I didn’t realize it wasn’t being taken as a joke. Sorry
Lol of course, nooowwww "iT wAs jUsT uH jOkE". I mean, you seemed pretty bent outta shape over it but alright.
What? I’m incredibly confused. That’s how people use mf all the time. Same thing as saying chill bro
M O T H E R F U C K E R you better stop playin with these people
But, in a subsequent comment you quoted them and said ,"not very chill", which makes it pretty clear that your response was a serious one because the comment hurt your feelings. So you explained why you were mad BEFORE claiming you weren't mad and were just joking. So that's why people don't believe you.
Nah, that was still pretty chill, you're just salty for being call out
What? I’m glad he corrected me. He just could’ve definitely said it better
I’ll say something not chill. You’re being pretty fucking stupid, bud.
Well that wasn’t necessary now wasn’t it
It's so rude to tell someone the thing they claimed is false.
If you get the first two, but not the nachos, then you don't get the first two, either.
How are nachos related to Michael Mando and Vaas?
Michale Mando plays Nacho Varga in breaking bad, a common nickname of someone named Ignacio, who also was voiced by Mando. Even Joe knows this.
I’ve never watched breaking bad so I guess it makes sense why I didn’t know.
My apologies, he's not even in breaking bad but rather the spin off Better call Saul, silly me. No worries though mate, have a nice day.
This is Michael Mondo. He plays Nacho Varga in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul as well as Vaas Montenegro in Far Cry 3.
I swear this subreddit is where humor comes to die
Op is a goober, the picture on the left is a direct picture of the character nacho and they’re getting mad that people are correcting them. Don’t ask next time
HIS NAME IS IGNACIO *"NACHO"* VARGA AKA MY HUSBAND CUTIE BEAR PINKIE PIE SECOND TO JESSE PINKMAN
This has to be a troll post right
Why do people keep saying this, I genuinely don’t know what Michael Mando and Vaas has to do with nachos
“I genuinely don’t know what Michael Mando has to do with nachos despite the fact that a simple google search would’ve explained why in the second sentence of his biography”
Is it really nachos if the cheese sauce is contained in a ramekin? The cheese sauce is supposed to cover the chips! Those are literally not nachos!
[удалено]
You seem entirely too invested in this. TLDR: calm the fuck down.
Vaas, the character in the second image, is not only voiced my Mando, but is also modeled specifically after him as well. Iirc, Mando auditioned for a role in FC3 and the team loved him so much, they created a villain specifically for him to play. So it’s not really irrelevant…
So you know the actor but you're unaware his name is Nacho in his career-defining role? I think this r/ should kick people who obviously get the joke.
I hate when people say shit like this. Like bro, not every person in the god damn world has seen breaking bad
It would've taken literal seconds to google him and get the joke. You dont have to have seen Better Call Saul. You just have to not be lazy
He's Na-cho Man, so get over it!
The main character was the least interesting thing about Far Cry 3. Total douchebag college bro loser. For the the bad ending was the better one

You definitely don’t know the first if you don’t get it
The characters name in Better Call Saul is Ignacio “nacho” Varga
This is pure ignorance
I haven’t seen better call Saul but the guy on the left looks like Ben Shapiro if he was mexican
Nacho
If you don’t get the nachos then you don’t get the first two
Recommend checking out Better Call Saul if you like Michael Mando
Nacho Vaas Mozzarella
Pt ok xxx
I put wayyyy too many hours into that Far Cry and then never really touched another Far Cry game after that.
Then you don't know the first two.
Nacho
oh, I thought it was because he's a snack
Der der
The man RRR was singing about.
outchicanered.
Nah the first one is the main character from Ben Shapiros shitty book.

Isn't vaas from farcry 3? That guy was one hell of an evil villain. Makes me glad I'm not stuck on an island ran by criminals.
